Blakeley's of Brighouse Fish & Chip Takeaway & Restaurant in Calderdale

Called in today for lunch, we really enjoyed it, the service was friendly and professional, the restaurant had a nice atmosphere, we had the lunch time special of fish and chips, (haddock or cod) tea, bread and butter, the food was beautiful and the price reasonable. Would definitely recommend.

Whent today meal was first class my husband is disabled and they are always welcoming and helpful highly recommend

Hubby got takeaway not long after opening time. Fish seemed like it was from the day before reheated. Grey looking fish, dark batter greasy no way did it taste fresh. Chips only just ok. Very disappointing won't be going again

I have visited Blakeley’s on a few occasions over the year . The food is always nice . I prefer to dine in the restaurant when I visit .

Last couple of times we have had takeaway fish & chips they had been poor but yesterday they were just disgusting. We thought we would give it another try and what a waste of £17 that was. The fat was dripping off the chips and tasted dirty. The batter on the fish was mush and the the actual fish was just a clump of white stuff. I have been going to Blakeleys for over 20 years but this is the last time. It really has lost the edge it used to have on being the best shop for miles around.

Went on Sunday when band contest was on , lovely quality fish & chips . You know when he product is top class .

What is happening at Blakeleys? It was THEE place to go for premier fish and chips! F&C is a treat and not something I have weekly, therefore other than this Sunday last time I went was a couple of months ago. You know how it is - its a treat so you want the best. Fish was not flaky like it used to be but instead dense indicating either been frozen or old - chips over cooked. Huge disappointment - won't be going again.

We were recommended to Blakeleys by family. The food was excellent as were the staff. So nice to get such fresh Haddock and fabulous chips, no shortage of ketchup and nice mushy peas. Well worth the visit

I visited at a busy time with my parents and they were very accommodating, I had the haddock salad. It was really nice- beetroot on the salad was a nice addition you don’t usually get. The staff were friendly and the price was not too bad either. They gave me a refill of tap water which was also a nice thing to do. Would come again

We would never go anywhere else for fish and chips. The service is always fast, friendly and efficient, the food is just superb. We love it.

Never fail to enjoy BLAKELEYS in or out. Consistently good. Decent size portions , no runny fat about. Quality fish and the curry sauce is great too. The staff pleasant and efficient. What more could one ask.Downside but NOTHING TO DO WITH Blakeleys is the parking isn't as handy as it used to be. Calderdale do gooders have installed seats by the river and pinched the car parking spaces. Shame on you as the car park is always full of other shoppers.

Been meaning to visit for some time because of their willingness to serve fish with gluten free batter. We did intend going to a 'well known' steak restaurant not too far away but it was closed for 'technical reasons'! This gave us a great opportunity for our first visit to Blakeleys Restaurant and we weren't dissappointed. Greated by very friendly staff we were quickly seated in the restaurant. The service and quality of the food was excellent. Clearly many of the customers were regulars and now we know why. Won't be long before we are back, it's not often you can get gluten free batter on your fish of that quality.

First visit and it will not be the last. Lovely clean resturaunt , pleasant and very capable staff, topped off with excellent food what more can we say.

Still in lockdown so its take away on. Todays our 40th wedding anniversary. We decided to stick with a meal we all would enjoy. Blakeleys is always reliable. They open at 1pm Sunday. My son was first there. My wife doesnt have batter so she had microwave fish. Lovely big lump of haddock . We had fish and chips and mushy peas. Hot tasty and a wonderful treat. Best in West Yorkshire by far. Great again.

Amazing as always today. My 3 year old is a fussy little eater but she was crying for more! Great service aswell, very efficient which in the current climate is not easy.

There is a sign on the door advising to order specials as you walk in - i did as advised and was rudely told 'I'll do it after I've served this customer' Why have the sign if you are going to speak to people like that. The food is always lovely but a little customer service goes a long way especially in these challenging time

We called for lunch today and had fish and chips to take home. They were hot and tasted superb, just like they used to be. We will be back.

We have been today, my mum and dad, me, my daughter and my granddaughter! It was just lovely - we were made so welcome, the place is spotlessly clean and the food was perfect. Our waitress was lovely and all covid restrictions where adhered to - we all felt safe and cared for. We will be back!!

As ever the gluten free fish and chips are perfect and no mishaps with cross contamination. Delicious!

Held our annual fish and chip supper last night the first "CLUB EVENT" since lockdown in March. Excellent pick up service and excellent fish and chips all eaten out side around the bowling green respecting social distancing. Always taste better in the fresh air. Well called in Blakeleys chip restaurant in Brighouse on a trip back from skegness to wallasey. We've frequented it before and always call in...First thing i would say i checked on the internet to see it it was open. All the info i needed was there.They have really set up the restaurant side well for safety re Covid...  with less tables  so they can be spread out to social distance.Handsanitizer on entry and book to sign in to keep a record for track and trace.Separate exit door.Toilets unisex...one in  one out..Staff wearing necessary PPE.So we were quite happy.Four of us dined and heyyy i even asked for my bread to be cut across the slice and not diagonal and they  did it ish YAYYYY. . They brought it uncut lol You cant make a chip butty out of triangle bread..!!! I leave that thought there.!!!And they remembered from a previous review where i mentioned it...so yes they do read the reviews......Can i just mention the 50 percent off EAT OUT HELP OUT schemeBlakeleys are very much part of this ...so check ya days.. go in and have a great meal.We had two adults and two childrens meals ..tea and drinks for childred. Bread and butter... it shudda been about £31 and we were charged £15.50 which was a nice plus for us.. So yes its safe. Its a great chippy...ask the cheeky one for normal cut bread.. it will do her head in ..ha ha...A lot of our friends use it and they always compliment the place.So 5 star recommended this time.. They really are the best, Iv tasted no equal. Tried jaks at mirfield, poor, tried Alan’s mirfield poor. These are above and beyond the best fish and chips iv ever had plus I got two fish for some reason I didn’t think I could eat it all but I did. Best fish and chips hands down and I know my food

I’ve eaten in and taken away from Blakeleys a number of times and always had a delicious meal. Tasty fish, well battered, good curry sauce and chunky chips. Staff are really welcoming and very accommodating. I only went yesterday but writing the review is making me excited to go back again soon!

After feeling lockdown in the dumps and friend got in touch asking me why hadn't I been too Blakeleys? They are closed I replied. No take away is open. We rang 5 minutes before setting off. Went in top door, paid and home again.It was hot and very tasty..Dont deprive yourself, help is here. The hours have changed slightly.Tasty fish and cracking chips.I WILL SURVIVE NOW.

An excellent local fish ship. They cater for slimmers like me and do excellent salmon Salad, and the more traditional battered fish chips and peas for others. The staff are so friendly and work hard looking after customers. You can also get a beer or wine, as well as tea and coffee. If I am in Brighouse again, I will definitely go back.

Heard lots of good reviews about this place so thought we would give it a try. Are in the restaurant part, got busy after we had arrived. Staff really pleasant! Very impressed, probably one of the best fish and chips we have eaten. Had the special cod.. very large chunky cod tasted delicious and chips were perfectly cooked! Thin crispy batter and not dripping in fat! Not your average fish and chips price but well worth the tenner and will definitely return!

Ate in the restaurant today and had regular haddock and chips, which were exceptional. It was a good portion, lovely white chunky fish with a golden bubbly batter and well cooked hot chips. We have tried fish and chips at many places around Yorkshire and Lancashire but have to say these beat them all.

Blakeley’s is back. I’ve taken my last review of this restaurant off because everyone deserved another chance. I’ve been going here since it first opened (30 years + but in my view it went down hill and didn’t want it to but now it’s back to the best fish shop in brighouse bar none. We were staying nearby for an anniversary treat. My husband smelt this shop and we parked so decided on a snack of fish, chips and peas. The chips were 'proper' chips cooked perfectly. The peas were yummy. But the fish was the shining star. It was really fresh and flaky white. Delicious. It would be worth staying again just to have some more.

Having read all the rave reviews on TripAdvisor, we were looking forward to great fish and chips. We ate in the restaurant which was packed with people, and anticipated a freshly cooked meal. Unfortunately, we were bitterly disappointed. The fish we were served was 'dead' - dry, overcooked, tasteless and as far as we were concerned inedible. We asked for a doggie bag and took the whole lot home for our dogs to eat!

The fish and chips here are probably the best fish and chips I've ever had. Certainly in the top 5. Wonderful.

after picking my mum up from LBA, she was feeling peckish so we pulled off and went to blackleys for tea, so we was attended to by one of and only member of staff that was on in there restaurant for time of day, we ordered 2small portions of fish n chips, a pot of mushy peas and curry sauce to which we share, and pot'o'tea for two, and it certainly hot the spot esp for mum as she had come back from alicante from seeing my brother not have anything to eat since breakfast. and it was to blackleys high standards, keep up the good work.

I’m going to be your worst nightmare manager.Three of us walked in to a table we had already booked on recommendation from here as I now live down south but originally from batley.we were promptly asked if we would like a drink great ,we ordered and waited and waited for around 20mins to which we politely asked could we have our drinks.they were brought with an apology fine.we then waited for our food nearly 40mins noticed other tables were being served before us we asked why this had happened we appreciated they were busy an aggressive manager appeared and said we’d better take this outside quite astounded my friend explained to him that for his own benefit would not be a good idea however he insisted.he then accused me of been aggressive to staff When oasking where our drinks were I explained don’t talk rubbish I run pubs for 12 yrs and wouldn’t talk to staff like that.he continued to be aggressive to which we explained we wouldn’t be paying for our drinks due to his attitude, he then said I have your mobile number to which I said and so what.he called me 10am next morning and denied everything that happened I explained why did you bother calling me I said I will put this review everywhere possible on social media what a loser.

we had heard there was a cracking chippy in brighouse , it was Friday night so had to be fish and chips .found Blakeleys down a side street ,easily recognized by the people queuing out the door ! always a good sign of either an excellent establishment or slow service ,luckily it was the former .great fish and chips , excellent sized portions ,piping hot , flaky white fish and perfectly done chips ,couldn't fault it . wish we had discovered sooner .would recommend this establishment to anyone ,forget the rest.

Once again absolutely spot on. Delicious food and friendly, attentive staff who despite usually being run off their feet, always have a quick chat and kind word. Sometimes you have to wait but can book in advance. I don't mind waiting, its worth it. Restaurant is lovely and clean too. Highly recommend.

Fresh good quality fish and chips. A warm welcome and very frendly atmosphere. Small and cosy but still very enjoyable. Fish is cooked to order and very tasty batter, good quality chips. The mushy peas were piping hot.

We come to brighouse a lot throughout the year but this time we were stopping off with the grandchildren on our way back from skegness to the Wirral. We knew this chip shop and it was just a few miles off the motorway so we made the small detour.

Blakeleys is our go to local Fish and chip restaurant. We had regular cod, which was generous. You can order a fish only, so you can share chips. Quality of the fish is excellent and the chips great too. The Gluten free fish and chips were rated excellent too by the coeliac member of our party.

Best fish and chips around!!! Ask for haddock as normally they do cod. Everything is fresh and piping hot. Really clean surroundings too.

Fish and chips in many guises all good, other items are available but you wouldn't would you, Great service, conveniently situated. Has a carry out weather permitting you could go sit by the canal. Parking opposite with a reasonably priced Pay and display 200 yds away. Well worth a visit.

They have the most amazing gluten free fish & chips which meet the needs of anyone with coeliac. We have been coming here on a regular basis for the last few years for gluten free fish & chips. For the price conscious, the difference in price to regular fish & chips is nominal. Blakeleys are Coeliac UK accredited with separate cooking and preparation facilities for GF which all come individually wrapped and labelled. Tip. Phone 30min before to avoid having to join the queue when you collect.

We arrived in Brighouse around dinner time after driving from Liverpool. We knew Blakeley's would satisfy our craving for fish and chips, and of course they did. The meal was so good we treated my cousin to dinner there the next night as well!

Just been for first time. Me and hubby shared haddock and chips just for a bit of lunch. Can honestly say it was the nicest fish i had eaten in a long time. Will i be back most definitely

I have been coming here for a few years now and I have been forced in this time to go to other olaces when either I am elsewhere or it is closed and I have yet to find a place which comes close to this place. If I had to be critical sometimes the fish are not the biggest but I dont even mind that as the taste is second to none.

Excellent Fish and chips, eat in or takeaway, quality of food and service is also excellent, easy access due to being next to large car park, what more could you ask for.

we was on our way home from gainsborough after visiting friends 1/7/19 at aroud 5.30pm'ish, & was getting bit peckish, so we called in at blackleys, we was welcomed by young man, and we went to our table, and he came over & took our order, we had cappacino, regular fish n chips with mushy peas & curry sauce we shared them and the meal was spot on as per usual. thank you blackleys keep up the good work .

I always enjoy dining here. The standard of food is consistent and spot on. I always have gluten free fish. The staff are really lovely. Prices are reasonable. Very clean restaurant in a good location.

Bought fish and chips for the family got home to find a fish missing when I phoned up the girl who answered was most apologetic when I went in the week after to get the money for the fish the girl behind the counter assumed I wanted a fish which I did not expected another apology or something perhaps from the guy doing the fish frying who was listening in don't know what I expected but I felt it was all a bit one-sided as if it was my fault not a good experience fish and chips are nice but will go to the golden hind next time have heard they are just as good hind staff might be more on the ball it wasn't as if the shop was busy

Amazing food, amazing staff, always have a smile on their face. The price given is at a great value standpoint and their puddings or their special never goes a miss. Will visit again every Friday.
