This is our second visit in our motorhome to this outstanding pub. We travelled from Hull to come here again. The food and staff are first class, a cut above most pubs. The ale was also kept to a very high standard. We couldn't recommend this place enough. We will be back

Impressive! Haven’t been to the Spring Rock in a few years, so consequently wasn’t sure what to expect. Fortunately we managed to get the last table and started off with the Vocation ‘bread & butter’ and it was a great pint. Both of us ordered the fish & chips, we were not to be disappointed. The food was outstanding, no frozen chips, tinned peas etc. The fish was huge and cooked in a beautiful batter. We should of fasted for 24 hours prior to this visit. Added to this, the waitress explained that we were entitled to a free bottle of wine. All for £30.00!!! We will certainly be dining here again… with a larger party .

There were 9 of us for our usual Christmas lunch. Old friends who get together at least once a month. Everyone agreed their meals were great and good value. My steak and kidney pudding was the real deal and as for the spotted dick, well a proper treat. There were other choices of the less traditional English kind but all plates were cleared at the end so that must be good sign. The pub was very busy, but staff were great and service attentive but not overbearing, just right. Cannot recommend the Spring Rock enough.

Arrived for lunch at 12.45.Couple of tables eating.Ordered and told that food would be 20 mins to half an hour.Fine we thought. 45 mins later it arrived (only 2 sandwiches and chips)-no apology for delay.Curly fries were cooked to a crisp. Used to be a lovely pub-not sure if it may have changed hands.Won’t return unfortunately. Heard lady tell waitress on next table that her pie was cold and she was told she would have to wait at least 10 minutes for another.

This is an amazing pub/restaurant situated at the top of Greetland village, Halifax on the edge of the Norland moors and nature reserve. They offer a fine selection of local cask ales and lagers. You can park in the car park, then take a walk over the moors to Norland village with panoramic views of the surrounding areas of Halifax, then call into the Spring Rock for a well deserved pint. But all that said, the food is absolutely amazing, do not book a table unless you have the appetite of a horse! I would challenge anyone to finish the large fish and chips which are cooked to perfection, and the filet steak I am told is second to none. A very friendly locals pub with excellent food and drink. You would think that I had a vested interest in this pub but I don't this is just a good honest review, Well worth a visit but check with me before you book, as I may not be able to get a table if you book before me! Slightly on the down side, last food orders 7..00pm ish and closes around 9.30pm weekdays but check first.

First time at this gastro traditional rustic country pub. Passed it hundreds of times in my life without realising what I was missing. Short review - I doubt you could fail to enjoy this place. The long review- Booking- I enquired to book a table about two weeks in advance. I asked if four could dine arriving 2pm but to keep the table til late. “No problem”. I knew from this reply we were on a likely winner. So many pub or restaurant, will only allow you a couple of hours but we like to chill and relax a few hours. A good start. On arrival- The place is clean and obviously well looked after, traditional rustic warmth meets you as you enter the place and the lighting is set just right Exposed timber beams and a stone fireplace. What’s not to like? Access- I am not disabled but I think access would be relatively easy and I noticed one of the staff keen to help one lady to her table, who might have struggled otherwise, which was nice to see. Wheel chairs might struggle in the area we sat, just as it was set out on the day, but prior advice to the pub when booking, I am confident, would bear a positive result for those who have access difficulty. Outside- Outside the pub entrance is a covered area with picnic style tables. Ideal for a warm or wet day for those preferring the outside. There’s also some picnic tables off the car park, away from the pub entrance, which I can see appealing to those with young family perhaps . Bar- A traditional rustic country style timber bar. There’s a fantastic selection of traditional ales, lagers and wines on offer. Food- The food caters for every taste and a specials board tops it all off. Starters are very generous in portion size. Garlic mushrooms, Stilton mushrooms, prawn cocktail presented in deep pots and one other starter of king prawns on a shallow dish. We noticed as well, the plates and pots were all warm. That detail is often overlooked. Starters were all accompanied with warm bread rolls and butter. Gave it that holiday feeling. For mains our party of four selected beef dinner, a fillet steak and one salmon. All comments of those meals was excellent and again a generous size. I enjoyed a good sized pork chop and apology to fellow diners as I had to pick it up to get complete satisfaction from it because it was so moreish, juicy and tasty. Cooked perfectly. Obviously a popular choice as the young lady serving us, had to enquire with the kitchen to see if this was available. I am so glad it was. As usual comment, if you have any particular requests or dietary requirement or have set your heart on something on the website menu, then you should advise your hosts, in advance, when you book your tables, to avoid any disappointments. Curly fries and peas accompanied mine as well as peppercorn sauce. I think our party could have asked for more vegetables. These were not clearly advertised on the menu. ASK is the advice here. Sweets- also perfectly presented. Service- Sadly the service didn’t match the place or the standard of the food. It excelled it! We all appreciate being made to “feel special” now and again and it doesn’t take a lot of effort. Well the staff on shift during our visit were smashing it. Wonderful hosts are the final piece of the jigsaw. Our main host for most of our visit, was a young lady, originally from “somewhere up the north east” shall I diplomatically say? (a laugh I hope we both shared- I enjoyed my own embarrassment for sure). That lady should be really proud of herself and of her hard work in looking after us and other diners, all in equal measure, throughout the day. As for those others back stage , the chef and kitchen staff. You might so easily and more often get criticised when it goes wrong, but seldom do customers respect it when it just goes well. You should also be proud as you got it so right by our experience. Compliments. Well done to the Spring Rock at Greetland. I find no faults. A perfect Saturday. Finally- Book a table to avoid disappointment!!!! There’s no booking fee to pay at moment but I really wish the place would charge a booking deposit because it’s not unusual now and most honourable customers expect it without question. Promotion- Nearly forgot- that there was a promotion on giving a free bottle of wine with every two meals ordered on our visit in May 2022- check availability of this or other promotional special offer when booking or enquiring.

Spring Rock's a great pub. Decent beer, nice surroundings and decent folk and staff. As an eating place it's average, which isn't a criticism. Food was fine, hot, unimaginative and poorly presented to be honest, at the end of the day it is just pub food. Not cheap though. Service was ok but not exactly cheerful. We could only get in for 8pm - which doesn't give enough time for three courses - we couldn't have a dessert because the chef had gone home. So why book people in to eat at 8pm? How oten can you get three courses in in un der an hour? There's much better out there so we'll just stick to the drinking in future.

Now unlike other places if you wanted the Christmas Menu you had to book it. Arrived and got some drinks at the bar, very friendly staff and we were in the Snug. Wonderful meal, all comments were very well received, and I had the “Belly Pork and the Lamb from the Christmas Menu”. 2 pints of the finest ale so…. it was on the run into Christmas so the ladies had a few G&T’s etc £110.00 yes I did say that….I paid the ladies behind the bar my thanks, and said I would return sooner than last time and so that is to be the case…. Saturday Choice of Birthday Girl…. Must have been the Gin selection…. However, we think the food. A great pub, Serving great food at sensible prices.

I've not eaten at this restaurant for a number of years but was very disappointed with the food on this occasion. I had the steak & kidney pudding with chips & mushy peas with a side order of onion rings. Whilst the pudding was flavourful it was lukewarm on arrival & therefore cold before I finished it. The chips were overcooked & the onion rings were undercooked to the extent the onion was almost raw. My partner had the roast beef dinner. The beef was tough & the Yorkshire pudding burnt. Also our bottle of red wine was not served at the correct temperature. On mentioning the above to the waitress she said she would bring it to the chefs attention. However we did not receive any feedback ,any apology or reduction of the bill. We will not be returning.

So it will be a pleasure to write this one.It was a Birthday Meal - 9 in Total - table booked for 6:30pmWe had been to the Spring Rock.....20 years ago...okay its been a while and like most Public Houses on the edge of Moors times have had to change. We arrived cold January night - warm welcome and a warm Pub..got some drinks at the bar and the LandLord and lady were expecting us. We went into the "Snug" and on the table was a chalk board with "Reserved for Cath - Party of 9" great idea ...and of course makes you feel welcome. So menu - we had looked online and the Spring Rock has a wide range of offerings and also a Specials board. They offer a set menu with 5 - 6 offerings that cover 2 or 3 Course options.2 - Courses £13.95 3 - Course £16.95Most of the party ate off these menu's - The Pub has Pie of the day and today it was Meat and Potato...I can honestly say that this pie reminded me of my wife's excellent meat, soft potato and well seasoned - The pastry was excellent - A "Real Home Made Pie"Option of Home Made Chips and Mushy or Garden Pea'sWinner Winner Winner......Starters I had the GRILLED HALLOUMI another winner - Even the 10 year old had two courses Yorkshire pudding and Children's Roast. Two of our party ate off the Specials board one have the Steak and the other Sticky Chicken Burger.Price with Drinks and bear in mind we had two rounds...£174.00 Thanks for the evening - it was great and we wont be waiting 20 years to return

We were a party of 4 on a Friday evening and booked a table, asking for one in a quiet area as we have found from previous visits that the bar area is very noisy. We were given a table in the back room which was lovely and warm with a nice fire going. We all opted for the set menu. Between us we had the pate, soup, garlic mushrooms and the brie, followed by the meat and potato pie, scampi and the biggest battered fish I have ever seen. All accompanied by plenty of fresh, salad, peas, and homemade chips. Everything was beautifully cooked and served and we enjoyed a very pleasant evening.Unfortunately we were all far too full for dessert but may opt for mains and desserts next time. Good range of beers and lagers plus other drinks available too.

Beautiful. So tasty. My main, I decided would be my old favourite, lasagne. Again a really nice tasty home prepared and cook meal which I had fries to accompany. Obviously there was food envy when all the main meals turn up and I must say the batter on the fish (and chips) was delightful. So called in tonight for some food. Nobody eating food, seemed it was just a few regulars drinking . Sat in the backroom, which was freezing cold, but the young bar staff member switched on the electric fire.I ordered a coffee, which seemed to take sometime to come. Anyway ordered the food, and wished we hadn't. If I wanted to eat a packet of crisps then I would have stayed in my warm home. I am speaking of the so called cheesy nacho's. Oh the best one was I asked if the salsa was fresh home made...and they said yes, its out of a jar..well that should have been a warning to go. Also order home cooked chips, that got taken back as they where raw inside. When they returned with another portion of chips I gave the rather miserable lady a full bowl of thir awful nacho's back minus one and said they where not good..no apologises..nothing !!! The second portion of chips where really brown yet soaky ..how does that happen. So they where also left as was my husbands chilli nachos, though he did pick at them a little. Paid the bill, and no words of how was your meal were uttered . A really GHASTLY unfriendly , unwelcoming hole. They have only one standard and that is extremely poor. They should be ashamed at their so called effort , open jars and packets of crisps...oh and charging stupid money for zero effort.

Took visiting family here for a late lunch. Very picturesque and cosy, but cosy to the point of ever so slightly crowded. Enjoyed the decor and from outside you a greeted with a beautiful vista (probably more for summer drinks). The food is lovely, portions generous and although they had run out of sirloin steak there was plenty of other acceptable options. Waiting staff are courteous and efficient. Quite crowded with loud locals in the bar area but then I suppose it is a bar as much as a restaurant and the drink floweth!

We ate here 3 times during our recent visit to this area. Our first meal was a hot beef sandwich with salad and chips. We had this between us during the afternoon as the portions were quite large. We both felt that the beef was the most succulent and tender that we had tasted. The service was good too. Our second meal was in the evening . My husband had a homemade pie which he thoroughly enjoyed and I had the fish and chips. Their chips are very delicious. We had excellent service; drinks brought to our table when needed and very friendly members of staff. There was a very welcoming feel to the pub. Our third visit was equally good. I particularly enjoyed my Chicken Souvlakia and Greek Salad. Again, we had wonderful service and the locals in the pub were friendly as well. Each time we went the pub was very busy, but they had enough efficient staff and everything went like clockwork. We will definitely visit this pub again when we are next up in Yorkshire

We booked a meal at this pub for Thursday evening 12th January (where we have have had excellent service and food before ). The table was booked for 7.00 to order at 7.30ish. When we arrived we were informed by another customer that the card machine wasn't working so we may have to pay cash. There was at the time a reasonably full pub, which we found out at a later time was a party of 18 booked for meals. We ordered our meals about 7.30 -7.45. After ordering our meals, where two of the party had ordered the same dish we informed by the young lady on waitress duty that only one meal was left as they had sold the others. Ok, so something else was ordered. It got the point where we were so ignored that one of our party went to bar to complain about the delay, and state it was unacceptable, It should be mentioned that we have 2 type 1 diabetics and a type 2 in the partyThe final main meals arrived at 9.10, because as we were informed, again by the poor overworked waitress she had a party of 18 to look after. As it happened all the food was acceptable except for on main meal which was more like a starter with chips added. It was supposed to be a Stilton and Garlic mushroom dish, with a salad accompaniment and chips. The gentleman who ordered said it was more akin to cheese soup with 2 garlic mushroom floating in it. When it comes to paying the bill we always divide the total bill by the number present and all pay the same. The young lady couldn't understand this idea and kept asking what the first two parties had eaten, to the point of annoyance I am informed. As it happens by this time the card reader was working, so we settled the bill and left. This evening was spoilt for us by 1. The shortage of staff. 2. The greed of the licensee who booked too many people to eat at the same time. and possibly 3. Not enough chefs/cooks to cope, or too small a kitchen to supply the food. All the licensee had to do was to ring the organiser, explain the problem and arrange another time, and then educate whoever booked these parties together that they cannot cope with so many meals concurrently. I am not aware that anyone from management apologised for this appalling service.I should add I believe that the pub has new owners. It used to be far better than this, and the new owners have increased the prices

Went here on an evening as hadn't been for a long time and was suitably impressed. Ordered steak and kidney pudding, it was massive, and homemade with a suet pastry. The other meals on the table were similarly homemade and massive, accompanied by a side bowl of colourful veg. The ales were well kept, the staff friendly and the place lively. Highly Recommended.

I used to drink here all the time 15 years ago then stopped. The reviews on here and the prospect of a nice walk with my children all pointed to coming back again and I was not disappointed. They enjoyed their food and playing outside. I enjoyed a pint and stealing a bit of their food.I have been told, by them, we are coming back. Works for me.

Went there this lunchtime with 25of my family members. All I can say is that the meals were excellent. They managed to get all the meals served piping hot. Portions were good and the quality of the food served was excellent. Just wish I'd had room for the sticky toffee pudding. Would definately recommend this place.

Came here during the week for quick work lunch as we could not get a booking anywhere else and the food was so great that I had to come back on Sunday for some more - food was really delicious and the portions were generous. Ladies working at the Spring Rock were really nice and felt like a family run pub. Noticed some people coming on horses and parking them outside while having a cup of tea which I thought was a really nice option to have.It is a shame there is no website for this place, the place has so much more potential than just being the local - the guys sat at the front does put you off a bit as you walk in - it goes quiet and they all look at you - must be their local. Another point - there is no background music.

We called in for tea & ordered before we realised a group of noisy locals were in whose language I found abusive & had we not already ordered food we would have left. Hubby had fish & chips which was huge with real chips. I had cheese & onion pie which was not to my taste as the pastry was incredible thick & the filling didn't have much taste. Lovely setting & nice pub, not yet decided if we'll give it another go.

Lovely food, great atmosphere and a very kind reaction when our autistic son became agitated by the noise - without any fuss we were found a different table in a quieter position. Would definitely eat here again.

Consistently the best fish & chips in the area for miles around. Decided to have a starter & they were spot on. My deep fried brie had the thinnest, crispiest batter with a lovely complement of red cabbage conserve & salad, while the homemade tomato & basil soup was served with a whole warm bagette. The portions are super generous & we could have well called it a day after the starters! There is a lovely atmosphere of a family country pub in an isolated setting. The staff are so friendly & efficient. It will be our regular Friday night out treat as the price is right & the quality tremendous. Complements to the chef (a lady I was informed).

What a lovely friendly local pub! We called on Christmas Eve and were pleased to find a warm fire and good selection of local ales. The Pub is child friendly and nicely furnished. The bar staff were very chatty and pleasant as were the locals who were propping up the bar. We did not eat however we will return for food soon as the menu looked very appetising .

Perhaps an understatement, but there is nothing more welcoming than a day or night in a nice local pub. Technically speaking it is my friend's local, but even as my first visit to the Spring Rock Inn I was made to feel at home by the locals. Some passionate farmers that prop the bar up until late and the area around of arable land make the setting a perfect retreat. An excellent selection of good quality beers. Tried them all and some more than once, but you really could not go wrong. Very friendly and efficient service and not overpriced. Only problem I found is that it is 5 hours drive from where I live!!

I only have one turkey Christmas dinner a year and I am so glad I chose the Spring Rock this year. I was supposed to meet two work colleagues for a Christmas lunch but I was stood up.... I left LEEDS and drove to the SR and asked for just the turkey Christmas meal, no starter or pudding. It came with 4 slices of turkey breast, a roast potato, roast parsnip, a light beautiful YORKSHIRE pudding with gravy and a side of veg.( collie, broccoli, carrots, new potatoes and my all time favourite red cabbage with cinnamon. Turkey was moist tender and full of flavour. Swilled down with a pint of Moonshine..What's beautiful meal. Just enough... Might have to break with tradition and call again for another next week... Love this pub.. Friendly staff, open fire, good ale and good food.

We have been going to the Spring Rock for about three years and have never been disappointed. Part of the charm is the family atmosphere generated by so many regulars. If you feel you are intruding that's because you are, but don't worry.....the staff are very friendly and helpful and the food and ale are excellent. Chin up, chest out.....enjoy !

After living in Calderdale for such a long time I thought I had visited most of the pubs/restaurants in the area. Alas this place was one that had slipped me by and I visited for the first time today with my wife and daughter. What a lovely welcome we received. Very friendly and accommodating. Just what we needed at a halfway stop off on a long walk. Plus there was lots of outside space on a lovely sunny day. We ordered Beef Lasagne and Spinach and Ricotta Cannelloni. Both were excellent and quite obviously home made to a high standard.Overall this is a great place with friendly staff and very reasonably priced good tasty food. Thank you for adding to our lovely day out and we will be back.

We passed here by chance on a Friday evening and decided to call in for a meal. There is an a la carte menu, a specials board and a set menu with 2 courses for £11.95 and 3 courses for £13.95. We chose the set menu.I had the pate for a starter and it was delicious, one of the best I have had for quite a while. It was served with hot toast and butter and a generous amount of salad. My husband opted for the creamy garlic mushrooms and said they were really good, a very generous portion served with a good chunk of bread.I followed with the cheese and onion pie- again absolutely delicious and served with home-made chips and salad. My husband had the ham and eggs- 2 very large slices of roast ham and two lovely fried eggs with deep yellow yolks and again home made chips. We had no room for pudding as portions were very generous . Everything was well presented and good service was offered by the young waiting staff and the lady behind the bar. This pub has been nicely refurbished, is in a nice setting and is well worth a visit. We will return!

I went a couple of Sundays ago, nice food and nice staff. The food is general sort you would find in a pub, but cooked expertly, and served well. The lady was courteous and seemed to enjoy her work which showed in the service. A nice place to be.I own a restaurant and sometimes its hard to smile, but this lady seems to do it all the time.

Having only been in for a drink once, many years ago, I called in for an early evening meal with my son recently. I was very impressed with the choice, quality and price of the set menu. The young barman was also very friendly and efficient. My only regret was not being able to sample the range of beers available due to driving. I will definitely return.

I went to the Spring Rock with my sisters and father and when we walked in you would think we were from an extra terrestrial species the way the group of men dotted around the bar area looked at us. There should be a sign on the door saying 'warning, if you aren't local and happen to be female prepare to feel uncomfortable'. We were sat in a room separate from the bar area (thank the lord). We ordered our food and despite being the only people eating the food took about 45 minutes to come. The portions were ridiculously large, enough for three people on one plate. The waiter was really nice and the food quality was acceptable. The atmosphere/waiting time for food is what lets this place down. More working men's club than family pub.

We had lunch there this last week-end. Yes the male locals are a little boisterous occasionally but that is part of the charm of this quaint pub and the low roof does not help the accoustics. Many pubs in locations like this survive on their core locals coming regularly. Better to sit, in the area left of the main bar area. The food was great and enormous portions and we couldn't eat it all but will go there again.Staff were brilliant.

Attended for lunch after a long walk. Very friendly staff, nice ambience. Quite an extensive lunch menu. I had the Stilton and beef panini with leaf salad which was a great portion size and tasty. We had a portion of chips to share which was quite large. I personally am not a fan of the sweeter variety of the potato used, as I like floury and crisper chips, but aside of that, it's a great lunch stop.
