Stopped here for lunch. Used to be an old English pub. Now still has the great beers, Hazy Hot cider 😁 and cosy atmosphere etc but also a Thai food menu. The food was served quickly and was tasty and authentic. Also do take away. Definitely will be back.

We fancied a Thai meal so booked this restaurant after reading reviews on Trip Advisor. As this was our first time of using this restaurant we didn’t know what to expect but on arriving we found it to have an extremely pleasant atmosphere plus all the staff were all very attentive. The food was authentic and extremely tasteful and the cost for the two of us around £70 (starters, main courses and a couple of alcoholic drinks). Would recommend this restaurant and we will use again.

Really excellent food, probably the best Thai cooking outside of the best in London. Service was also very good and a special thanks for sorting an ordering issue. We’ve been many times and the big plus is that it’s consistent, always great.

I love this place, it is a great venue and the food is delicious! The Thai dishes are amazing, especially for me the Green Thai and the Massaman, divine! What I also love about the Spice Merchant is that they host lots of events including music events, psychic events, comedy nights, festive fayres, summer well-being fayres, Cider and sausage events with music, brilliant celebratory events on special national days, etc and so much more. I host a ladies' club there once a month, Ash and the team are so good and make us all feel really welcome, we just love it! It has that perfect blend of pub where you can stop and have a drink and often you love it so much, you stop for a meal as the smell entices you in! We celebrated my sons Christening reception last Sunday with around 40 friends and family at the Spice Merchant and we can’t recommend them enough! Aislinn and her team were so helpful in the run up to the event and very accommodating to what I wanted in regards to decorations and food. The team were especially great with dietary requirements that as someone who has a gluten allergy I struggle to find suitable restaurants that are so accommodating (and don't make you feel like you’re making a fuss!) especially Thai cuisine… nothing was to much trouble! The girls working in the restaurant that day couldn’t have made us feel more welcome and nothing was to much trouble! Food was outstanding and the chefs equally worked super hard making sure the buffet was topped up. Overall we were over the moon with how the afternoon went and so so pleased we chose to have it at the Spice Merchant it truly made the day for us. Anyone thinking of holding an occasion at the Spice Merchant , Church Crookham do it you will not be disappointed! Thank you so much Aislinn and Team you are all truly fantastic and a complete asset to the local community!

A lovely welcome, very nice Thai food, good value. We stayed the night in their car park in our motorhome and had a very nice lunch in the cafe next door which is also run by the pub. We will be returning.

They set up at home for a party of 60, there is truly nothing we can say negative, they were amazing, attentive and helpful staff, food amassing, their uniforms and set up so professional. And they cleared away as if they had not been there!! They even suggested the music from the Cherry Pickers who played beautifully from 12 - 6. Thank you to the whole team. Christine and Anne.

Oh my word! After coming back from a holiday in Greece, we decided to walk to the pub and have a drink. Once there we felt hungry and decided to eat. Now, many years ago we ordered a dish here that was delicious but for over £10 only had two small prawns in, so we vowed never to eat there again. We caved and we are so glad we did. I had tofu Massaman Curry which, quite frankly was sublime. My husband had Pad Thai - which he enjoyed- although oddly, there were no eggs in it. That being said he still gave it a 8 out of 10. My curry - 11 out of 10 😜. Great size portions please keep that up 😊! The staff were a young crew, super smiley and polite - very important. Just a note - don’t sit in the undercover area if you don’t enjoy cigarette smoke. We had a big group arrive - one was talking super loud 🤣 - who sat behind us - it’s very close so we moved inside as we couldn’t hear ourselves talk - This isn’t a criticism of the restaurant or the people themselves they were just enjoying their evening, it’s just a tip for anyone reading 🤗.

We had a takeaway from here in lockdown and weren’t very impressed but we’ve recently heard good reports so we thought we’d try eating in. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was very good and the surroundings have changed for the better. The service was a little robotic and impersonal - and much too fast for me. My starter plate was cleared before I’d finished eating my last mouthful and the main course appeared almost instantly so it wasn’t as relaxing as it might have been. On the whole though, it was good and we will return.

We went to a Birds of Prey event here on 29th May. It was really well organised and the staff were friendly and very helpful. My husband was unable to sit in the sun due to a medical issue and the staff very kindly moved our table so he could still sit outside and enjoy the show. While we were there we could not resist the delicious prawns on their menu, followed by the mussamen curry later in the afternoon.. I had the tofu vegan one and the other was chicken both with coconut rice and both were gorgeous would fully recommend. We will definitely be returning we had such a lovely afternoon. Thank you, Liz

I think even giving 1 star is rather generous… Upon our entrance, we were greeted with awfully rude staff. The service here was exceedingly poor and I will not be returning to this place. The food was mediocre and far too overpriced. Come here if you would like to be greeted with attitude.

Not long moved into the area and discovered this place, and what a find, a cosy bar area to enjoy a drink, and amazing Thai food served. Have been here on more then one occasion and never disappointed, I've also had a takeaways which was also very good. Aislin and the team are all extremely friendly and the service is top notch

Such a lovely curry! Probably the best Thai I have ever had. The decor is not particularly attractive and looks like a regular pub. But as I say, I’ve been raving to everyone about this place!

We ordered a takeaway from The Spice Merchant on Deliveroo. The plus points were that the food arrived in good time, not so quick that you get the impression the food isn’t fresh, but still nice and fast. The food itself was fresh and the quality of the chicken and other ingredients was good. However, for us the Pad Thai was unbelievably sweet. So much so that I didn’t eat the dish. We called up to check if this was correct and were told it was, so perhaps it was just my personal taste. However I have had many Pad Thai’s in the past, and I have never had one taste like this. Also there was no peanuts on the dish, or delivered in a separate container. Perhaps the lack of peanuts made it seem more sweet?Secondly we ordered a mixed starter platter which was really nice. The only thing which was disappointing is that on deliveroo the platter shows two of each item, but we only received one of each item. Not sure if this was a delivery issue or deliveroos fault for including a misleading image. I can see that this place is obviously popular from all the glowing reviews from others, it is perhaps just not to our taste.

Visited last night for a curry and Comedy night and what a fabulous evening it was. Food was absolutely delicious, I had the chicken and cashew nut stir fry, which was yummy and I would definitely have it again. Absolute top notch comedians, two of them were very well known. We were all seated outside, slight bit of rain, which wasn’t a problem once we had an umbrella. Only one tiny criticism, as it was table service, they could have had more staff on for drinks orders, we were seated at the furthest point away from the restaurant and as it was so busy it was sometimes hard to get a drink. We will definitely be returning for the next one in July and would highly recommend to anyone.

Visited last week with a friend from work having just moved here from another part of the country 2 weeks ago. Food was exceptional and felt authentic, staff were knowledgeable about the food and what paired well with what items. Great wine list and special mention to Lucy who provided great service throughout. Will be back

I visited the venue for the first time a few weeks weeks ago for my friends birthday. What a lovely menu with delicious food. All three of us had different dishes, some recommended by our server Justin, and we were impressed with them all. We will certainly be back to try more! Great food, great service - a must visit

We've had numerous take aways from the Spice Merchant, but first sit down meal recently. Food was even better than the take aways, cocktails were great, and staff friendly and helpful. Great place, highly recommend.

Joining some friends for a socially distanced outdoor meal last night, I was really impressed with the Spice Merchant. Really well set up for a meal out in these restricted times. Staff wore masks, one way system was clear and we were even provide with blankets as the night got a little cooler. The food was outstanding and the service very friendly. I shall absolutely be returning for another chance to eat my way through the menu - as everyone else's food looked amazing too! I superb time was had by all :)Thanks team SM :)

I went along to this place last night not only was it lovely to spend some time finally with some friends but i have to say if you love Thai food, this place is a must visit or take away! I was blown away with my curry absolutely superb food, the flavour was delicious. It's run by a lovely couple who have a big passion in making their food the best it can be. I shall certainly be taking my family there now and will be my Thai treat from time to time. Thanks Robbie for inviting me....so glad you did !!!!

The whole team were fantastic. They handled our big table amazingly and food came out hot and beautiful. I had the duck spring rolls and Penang curry and it was fantastic!

Went out for a meal last night here and it was such a great night. Service with a smile (even under the masks) and the food was awesome. We have eaten at quite a few Thai restaurants over the years as it’s one of our favourite cuisines and I have to say that this is up there with one of the best. Loved the Jungle Curry - but be warned - ITS HOT!!!

I have eaten at The Spice Merchant quite a few times and have certainly used their take-away service throughout lockdown. I have never been disappointed. The food is 5 star quality with a large choice of dishes. The pub has beautiful garden setting and with covid restrictions at the moment there is a marquee and heating outside to still enjoy a meal out. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I can highly recommend both having a meal there and using their take-away service. I have the App on my phone which makes ordering food to be delivered to my home quick and easy.

I met with a group of friends for a meal at The Spice Merchant, the covid regulations were excellent and we sat in a marque with blankets provided if needed. The food was delicious. I have eaten at the Spice Merchant several times and also had take aways and the food is always excellent.

We came here for a business lunch and decided to share some dishes so we could try out a selection. Every single dish was outstanding and it was one of the best Thai meals I’ve ever had (and I’ve eaten a lot of Thai!).The service was great and the setting lovely. I couldn’t fault it and can’t wait to come back.

My first meal out since lockdown and what a treat. Not been here before. The food and service were superb. Sat out in the garden in the sunshine. It was gorgeous. I’ll definitely be coming back.

This was our very first restaurant visit since moving to Hook from London and we were certainly not disappointed. The meals were of the highest quality & huge portions from starters to desserts. Extremely nice staff who made us feel as if they valued our custom without being over bearing they were very helpful in giving advice when choosing from the food & drinks menu. The decor is perfect and the table & seating allows you to feel very comfortable and not cramped, This will most certainly be one of our regular places to dine for family and entertaining friends. I cannot recommend highly enough.

This restaurant has become a regular for us simply because the food is SO GOOD! Most authentic Thai we've found in the UK and there are some wonderful Thai restaurants out there..... Comfortable setting, friendly atmosphere, efficient waiters - always a lovely evening.

I booked a table for a Saturday a couple of week ago and had a quick question so e-mailed. I had a phone call back within minutes which was great and we then looked forward to the Saturday!It felt very safe with all possible covid measure being adhered to. The staff were lovely and the food amazing! My daughter was unable to eat all of hers and they offered to put it in a take out container so she could continue enjoying it on the Sunday!!We hadn't been able to go out as a family for a while and this was a lovely treat. We really cant wait until our next visit.

Had an excellent takeaway from this restaurant this evening. We both had the prawn Massaman currie which was delicious. Good potions and reasonable prices. We will return.

Not from the area, however The Spice Merchant was highly recommended. It did not disappoint. A warm, friendly welcome from the waitress (Fran I believe her name was). Clear COVID protocols in place but not in your face like other establishments. After several recommendations from the manager; the chosen dishes were served promptly and were outstanding. Will definitely return.

Decided to book a table last minute for 215 today. Sat in bar on arrival choosing menu items with a nice cold beer & prawn crackers - huge portion. Very nice friendly staff.When the food was ready we moved to our table in the main restaurant. Really nice atmosphere with music playing & every other table taken.We had the mixed platter to start. The prawn toast was amazing. Our mains were honestly the best Thai I’ve ever tasted. Pineapple rice with huge succulent prawns, chicken & cashew stir fry & a beef curry packed with coconut milk & lime leaf flavours. The beef simply melted in your mouth!!This was our first visit & certainly won’t be our last. Absolutely fabulous.

We researched the Trip Advisor reviews and as a consequence of their great reviews we settled on Spice Merchant. We were not disappointed. From the moment we were met by Justin and shown to our table - the whole experience was faultless. We requested our food to be extra hot (chilli heat) That was delivered in spades. It was absolutely delicious. Thank you Spice Merchant and thank you Justin - you gave us a very special evening.

The first time we were let down by our experience we put down to them having a bad night.Happy to give it another chance but if anything it was even worse.Obviously we all have different standards with regards to food and hygiene but we found the dining area overcrowded for today's social distancing which led to a very uncomfortable mea!. The lack of signage and hand sanitization stations was also off-putting, pointing things out on arrival would be good.It doesn't matter what the food is like when you are constantly worrying about how close people are to your table. There was also an unpleasant smell of burning which didn't do anything to enhance our experience.We won't return, there are other venues locally which have got the social distancing side of things right and where we feel safer and more relaxed.

The restaurant is spotless with a lovely decor. We enjoyed the poppadoms with theHomemade chutneys. The staff are very pleasant. Social distancing was in place. We also had a fantastic afternoon tea earlier this year. It makes a tastier, healthier choice than sandwiches and cakes.

Yesterday wasn't our first visit to the Spice Merchant but it always takes me a while to get around to writing a review. Once again the quality of the food, presentation and service was superb. In addition, being able to dine outside on the veranda in this weather made for a perfect evening.

Enjoyed dinner for 2 outside on the terrace. Felt very safe with staff wearing masks & they asked us to use on line menus which was fine. We had Thai fish cakes & duck spring rolls (which had loads of duck in) for starters & curries for main courses. All was excellent. This restaurant was a great find on trip advisor as although we live fairly locally I hadn’t realised it was there, and there aren’t many Thai restaurants in the area. We will definitely be back.

Ate here following relaxation of lockdown. We’re really keen to try the place out based on the reviews. The menu is online and good variety of good. It’s not cheap, so would expect good quality service and food. On the service side, they need to get the basics right. No offer of water for the table, prawn crackers ordered but didn’t arrive, one starter arrived late. Food was ok but not exceptional. So won’t be rushing back I’m afraid.

Had our first takeaway from here yesterday evening. And loved it. Really delicious food and lovely, friendly, very safe socially distanced service while we waited. Very impressed all round. Friends recommended this and we’re so glad they did.

First 2 delivery orders were absolutely fine, but then the service went downhill. On the 3rd order, we received the wrong food which was then swapped with other customers. Our food was cold by the time we got it and one item was still missing. Given the Covid 19 situation, it is not great to think other customers had opened our food packaging to then realise they had the wrong order.Then today, we spent the day celebrating Father’s Day with our son who suffers from various disabilities. We placed an order this morning for a delivery at 8pm. We were looking forward to relaxing and having a meal together as we rarely get to do this due to the care our son requires. We received a text message at 8pm stating the food was on it’s way. At 8:40pm I called the restaurant as we were still waiting for our food. The lady was extremely apologetic and told me the food had not gone out but was literally leaving the building as we spoke. She offered me a free meal due to the past challenges we had and confirmed our delivery would be with us within the next 15 mins or so. At 9:15pm, I called back, the lady was surprised I had not yet received the food. She said she would chase up the driver. I explained that our evening was now ruined. I didn’t hear anything back so at 9:35pm, my husband and I made sandwiches, and then at 9:45pm the delivery came! Seriously, this is out of order. We sent the food away as we had already started eating our sandwiches. The restaurant should not be accepting orders if they can’t cope and are understaffed. Appalling service, don’t bother, it is more hassle than it is worth dealing with them unfortunately.

For the forth time during lockdown we ordered a takeaway and took it to my parents to sit in the garden and enjoy. We all love the incredible tasty food and the portions are very generous. My favourite is the Thai Green Chicken Curry and the flavour is like nothing I have ever tasted, perfection! The Spice Merchant does an incredible job delivering hot food on time. No having to wait around with lots of other people during these times. Just order online and pick your time! I would highly recommend The Spice Merchant to everyone.......

I know sometimes places get a mixed review, but I have to say hands down has been one of the best takeout meals in lockdown we’ve had. Thai red curry with prawn, prawns were huge, the sauce sooo amazing was absolutely lovely, everything was really good, thanks guys was fab!

I’ve given a very positive review here before and it’s been a go to for birthdays in the house but our last takeaway was really not good at all. The food was cold and we had to microwave it and the red Thai curry had an ingredient missing that makes it the special dish that it usually is. I spoke to another local person who happened to ask me if I had eaten there lately and I said yes but it hadn’t been good. They said they had also had to call the shop to complain as their meal hadn’t been any good either. It’s annoying and disappointing as we ordered for a special birthday and £60 was wasted. I will probably opt for Menu Thai in future. I did give feedback via their online request as I think it’s fair to give a restaurant a chance to respond but no response was forthcoming.

We decided to to give this restaurant a try based on the other reviews and were sorely disappointed. The dumplings and the duck spring rolls were good but from there everything went downhill. The Tom yum kai was tasty but seriously, a tomato cut in half and chunks of onion? The Pad thai was sweet without any hint of chili, the chicken fried rice was a tasteless mess and the Pad kaprow was like something a work experience student might produce. My wife asked if it was the soup, it was so runny. The beef looked as if it had been roughly chopped, no sign of birds eye chilis, just standard large ones and no attempt made at the delicacy of preparation that is a hallmark of Thai food. I'm wondering if I ate from the same restaurant as the other reviewers.

First ever meal. In the words of my son it was "insane" . Really tasty and very reasonable in price. Would definitely recommend and will be ordering again.

I would totally recommend The Spice Merchant to anyone. It may be a bit more pricy than some but you get what you pay for. The taste is amazing and very good quality. I have ordered the soups and curries, all taste like they have been cooked with care rather than just being another customer which I have felt sometimes with others. I will certainly order again (and again!) so thank you.

We moved to Church Crookham over four years ago and never felt the need to order in a take away

We ordered through deliveroo at 19:46 with confirmation that the food had been cooked and that it was on its way after about half hour. A hour and a half had gone by So we phoned the restaurant and they admitted they missed the ordered. I couldn’t cancel without losing a refund due to the deliveroo app showing it as out for delivery. The restaurant said they couldn’t refund me as its out of there control and any refund would have to be through deliveroo customer service (which would take weeks).

My sister and I had a late table for two on a busy night, we were not expecting to get a table, but as luck would have it they squeezed us in. Most of the tables were busy and the team should have been in 'wind down' time (it was late when we walked in, gambling our chances for a table). They could not have been more welcoming, the food was as awesome as ever and the atmosphere was superb. This place is pure gold, for any occasion.

Table for two we’ve heard so much good stuff about the spice merchant that we thought we would give it a try . Arrived at 7pm easy to park nice feel to the pub shown to our table we hear we were served prawn crackers & chilli sauce we ordered starters platter for two squid & wasabi prawns all a bit bland we both thought although we have just returned from Thailand . That’s when people started walking straight through where we were eating to pick up take away’s & to go out & smoke & we put up with this all through our meal . Mains were served I had lamb shank curry & my wife had curry we ordered pineapple rice which came in a pineapple not nearly enough for two people . Staff were very nice ,service was good over all . Will we go again maybe

Visited with family in a large group! It has to be one of the best meals I have had out! The food was delicious! The staff were friendly, helpful and happy! A great time was had by all! Would rate it higher if I could!

We fancied a change to Dominos or Chinese, and had heard good things. Delivery was quick, food was gorgeous, tasty and hot (highly recommend the Massaman curry!) no more domino’s for us!!

We came here for a birthday meal mid-week, ordering a variety of different dishes from the menu. All were absolutely delicious and we were incredibly impressed! Favourites included; Chicken Massaman Curry, Balinese Chargrilled Chicken and Honey & Sesame Duck.

The food these guys serve is superb, they're friendly, welcoming and the place has a nice atmosphere, what more does one need.

We went as a family on a buzzing Friday evening. We were delighted by the food - it really was excellent. A particularly nicely kept pint of real ale was a bonus. Eurofiz or Asian lager was also available.

We came here recently for dinner with friends, mid week.

On recommendation we visited Spice Inn mid-week and took advantage of their special mid-week menu. Food was excellent with good service and very keenly priced for 1/2/3/courses. We had a large variety of meals all of which were excellent. Only slight drawback was lack of atmosphere as was quiet mid-week but well worth a visit.

Have eaten here several times and every visit the food and service has been excellent. Highly recommend.

I've had dinner here a while ago with friends and the food (Rendang) was delicious and the Customer Service excellent. I recently suggested a take away from here to friends given the quality of their food. We had a Dim Sum starter, which was lovely. HOWEVER, two of us ordered the beef Rendang (on my recommendation) and it was totally awful. The sauce is supposed to be almost like a paste and the meat should be falling apart. Instead our meal was swimming in thin sauce but worse was the fact that the beef was chewy. Taste was great but presentation and tough beef was just awful. Given that we'd spent a lot of money for quality food this was hugely disappointing :-( Won't be ordering Takeaway again and would think twice about visiting fir a meal again. :-(

Had an excellent meal here , food hot and tasty , service spot on !! Had brought family members visiting from Japan, this is a restaurant they def requested to visit again ...

Takeaway turned up piping hot + the underlying flavour was nice. But it was ruined by both our curries being too salty. And I'm someone who likes salty tastes so I have no idea how much was in there. As this was our first experience of the restaurant/takeaway, I don't know if this is likely to be a one off or just how it is. Quite disappointed with regards to the level of salt but as this is something that can easily be rectified, I'm not totally put off

Our first visit since it used to be The Black Horse. It's taken us a while to get there it's been The Spice Merchant for a while.

I like curry , curry is very good , especially in this neighbourhood!! Second visit , there will be a third and hopefully a million more ! This is my favourite Indian restaurant, full stop.

I had the massaman curry and my friend had Pad Thai, both of which were delicious! The service was great and our food arrived quickly. Quirky decor with a lovely welcoming feel, we will definitely be back!

Menu and food mouth quenching, Service and ambiance impeccable. Very rare for me to say but Thank you for a superb evening out with my wife !
