Bartons Mill in Basingstoke and Deane

We stayed in room 9 and was blown away by the size of the room! It was so clean and lots of complimentary drinks. Quality toiletries, very eco friendly and huge comfortable bed. Every part of our overnight stay was lovely. The scenery, the food, all the staff were cheerful, friendly and helpful. Breakfast just perfect!

We stayed at Bartons Mill intending to stay three nights. The room was stylish, comfortable and clean. Very satisfied with the facility. Then we had breakfast! Couldn't equate the quality of the room with the shockingly bad breakfast. The menu promised a selection of cereals, yoghurts, pastries. and fresh fruit. Cornflakes, cocopops, rice crispies and granola wand a bowl of uncooked porridge oats were offered. No Muesli, no yoghurt as promised so they brought out Toffee or Strawberry yoghurt. I asked for plain and was told not available. The fresh fruit was a bowl of apples. Not a blueberry in sight. The pastries were half baked croissants. There was a choice of cooked breakfast. I choose Eggs Royale. A poached egg covered in yellow gloop sitting on grey and slimy Salmon. It was indescribably bad. The following morning we wanted an early start and entered at 7.30am as advertised. We were told they didn't officially start until 8.00am. I ordered poached eggs which arrived on dry toast. I asked why no butter and was told it was a matter of preference. I sent back to be buttered. We left not completing our stay as we couldn't face another breakfast. We didn't eat there in the evening based on their breakfast offering. This was supposed to be four star. The room yes, the breakfast not even one. Get your act together Bartons Mill. You could and should do much better.

Lovely stay at Barton’s. Room was spacious & beautiful (room 10), very friendly, helpful staff, breakfast was nice too. A lovely pub set by the river, will be back again. Also to note its dog friendly, they even have a dogs food menu!

Lovely meal yesterday early evening with all the family - good vegan and gluten free options too. Great service from our waitress who was so friendly - how can she remember all our orders without writing them down!!

We travelled 50 miles to Barton's Mill Basingstoke to hear a band and paid a lot of money for a meal. The only table close to the band was empty and had a card saying locals. We asked if we could sit there and were told it was OK. Fifteen minutes later We were told we were thrown off because apparently the locals were coming. A bunch of loud, obnoxious individuals took our seats and spent the rest of the event shouting and being generally antisocial. We won't visit again, the place is a joke that seems to think they can offer service from the 1960s.

Our daughter and fiance chose Bartons Mill for their wedding. We visited the venue in January and could see straight away that it would be perfect. Tucked down a lane, you are transported to utter tranquility. Because of its setting, the pub does get very busy so you do have to be patient when ordering your food. We were extremely lucky with the weather, and able to enjoy the grounds. Had it been raining, the inside of Bartons Mill is beautifully decorated, it would have been just as good. We had the most splendid accommodation, a short walk away from pub. Spacious, tastefully decorated, comfortable. The staff were truly amazing - nothing was a bother. They worked efficiently and always with a smile. The food - breakfast selection, wedding dinner were all perfectly cooked, piping hot. Some of our guests found lovely walks and small village of Old Basing. (We will be back to discover these). When I think back to 11th May, I just have to smile. The only negative/suggestion is guests arriving on the day of wedding were unable to check in to their room before 2pm, after their journey, so had to change in ours. Could a room/area be available for those guests?

Disappointed with no lunch menu. Just wanted a light bite on a rare warm day. Only hot food, same as dinner menu. Other pubs offer sandwiches, salad etc but the settings are not as nice.
