Brodies

Annandale North, Dumfries & Galloway
01/09/2019: We stopped in today with our dog milo and were delighted the restaurant was dog friendly. They even brought him a big bowl of water which he made short work of. The staff were excellent and very welcoming. I couldn't decide if I'd like the soup of the day so they brought me a small drop to try and it was delicious. My wife had the haddock fish cakes which were full of flavour and the portion size was perfect. I had a panini and soup and was impressed with the quality if the ham and the soup tasted wonderful. We both got a piece of cake and latte as well. All in we paid about £30 which was incredibly reasonable. We will definitely be back most likely to the gin bar!!
01/09/2019: First of all, I don't think that I can actually write a review that will convey the excellent t experience that we had at Brodies!!! We stumbled into this chic little place following a disappointing experience in our hotel. The owners/ staff could not have been nicer, and absolutely made our entire trip to Moffat!! As well as the excellent service, great value and superb drinks selection, the food was Devine!! We had the best time and will definitely be back soon.

Claudios Restaurant

Annandale North, Dumfries & Galloway
13/09/2019: Stayed in Moffat en route further north, and booked Claudio’s having read the reviews.
03/09/2019: We noticed the hotel when entering Moffat and did not want to eat at the hotel we were staying in. We walked to the restaurant and booked a table for an hour later and went for sundowners at a local tapas bar.

Harbour Inn

Mid Galloway, Dumfries & Galloway
13/09/2019: What a great pub ! Dog friendly - great selection of beers, wines and spirits - great menu, with vegan, veggie and dairy free options - friendly locals - in short, just about everything you could ask for in a pub. The owners have clearly put a lot of thought and effort into what their customers might want and have delivered in style - many thanks for your hospitality and may you always be the great community pub that you are !
08/09/2019: Great little old pub with restaurant room, situated in lovely small seaside village. Excellent meal. I had the 'Cock and Bull' in a mushroom sauce with proper chips and tobacco onions. Wish I was going again tomorrow !

Casa Mia

Mid and Upper Nithsdale, Dumfries & Galloway
08/09/2019: They always make a fuss of you on special occasions :) delicious lamb meal, really yum. Music a bit too loud/intrusive when we arrived but the lovely courteous staff turned it down for us.
02/09/2019: My husband & myself went to the Casa Mia to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary, we haven't been to the casa for long while due to busy family life but I couldn't believe how much it blew me away.... It had been refurbished in January and the ambiance was beautiful, so clean like always, the tables & settings were gorjus, as for the staff I have never ever encountered a member of staff who haven't shown myself and my family outstanding professionalism, expert knowledge of the menu, stunning courtesy and extreme friendliness and that is why I will always recommend the casa for any occasion. The staff and the food are just amazing!!!! The food is always the first thing you really go out out to enjoy & look for but when you have stunning produce served by immaculate and extremely professional staff it makes your dining experience far more rewarding... I honestly cannot believe how amazing the Casa is, our 20th Anniversary will definitely be remembered as an amazing dining experience thanks to the casa!!!!

The Smithy

North West Dumfries, Dumfries & Galloway
28/06/2019: We visited yesterday while having a day out, got there in time for lunch and have to say thoroughly enjoyed it. It had been sometime since we had visited The Smithy. A little gem in the Galloway Forest. The staff are very friendly and the service second too none.
23/06/2019: Had nice lunch with soup and sandwich which were very good in a nice place. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Good stop off for Castle Douglas and beyond.

La Dolce Vita

Nith, Dumfries & Galloway
04/09/2019: Dined at La Dolce Vita tonight. Having a break in Dumfries. Really nice atmosphere, friendly staff and great food. Starter of chunky vegetable soup was delicious, probably the best vegetable soup I have had whilst eating out. It was accompanied by a lovely piece of tasty bread. My husband had the seafood pizza which he said was very nice, lots of prawns, mussels and squid, and my mushroom risotto was amazing. Large chunks of Porcini mushrooms and perfectly cooked rice. What was nice as well was the fact that I was given a bowl of Parmesan cheese and it was not just grated on top when they brought my meal. Very reasonable price for the quality of the food. A return visit is a must!
04/09/2019: We had the lunch time special menu which was well presented and a good portion size for lunch time. It was quite busy as it was a Saturday, but we were very well looked after. Drinks were average price for a restaurant. Three different parties of mostly ladies were in so was quite noisy as we were all yapping away.

Castle Restaurant

Dee, Dumfries & Galloway
14/09/2019: Booked for our first night when visiting Kirkcudbright. The menu has a tempting variety of dishes, along with various specials, and choosing wasn't easy. We all chose something different, and not one dish was a disappointment. We enjoyed it so much I booked again that night to go back on our last night before leaving to go home the next day.
13/09/2019: Our first night in Kirkcudbright and what a way to start. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Very accommodating friendly staff. Brother booked quite far in advance and asked for the table by the window which gives you a lovely view of the castle. We enjoyed it so much going again tonight with some friends.

Auld Alliance Restaurant

Dee, Dumfries & Galloway
18/08/2019: We ate there last night, the food was fantastic. Our friends were vegetarian and they were hugely impressed with the dishes on offer.
07/08/2019: We visited the Auld Alliance on recommendation and we had a really delicious meal. A very varied menu, difficult to choose from, with local produce a speciality. We opted for fish courses with gin infused trout and scallops and chorizo as starters and we both had the special ‘turbot’ which was cooked beautifully. Difficult to choose again a pudding as they all looked delicious. Really recommend this delightful restaurant in the lovely town of Kirkcudbright.

The Restaurant At Blackaddie Country House Hotel

Mid and Upper Nithsdale, Dumfries & Galloway
18/12/2017: Highly recommend the fine dining menu. Started with drinks and canapes by the fire then moved through to the dining room for a delicious four course meal - the chef, Ian really knows his stuff. I'm coeliac and didn't miss out on anything, the homemade gluten free rolls were as good as I've had anywhere else. Special mention to the roast onion ice cream between courses - wasn't sure what to expect but it was amazing!
02/11/2017: From the moment you walk in you are made to feel very welcome at Blackaddie Country House. The room we stayed in had a stunning view down the river which we enjoyed while eating the delicious homemade shortbread and tablet provided.

Cafe Ariete

Annandale North, Dumfries & Galloway
09/09/2019: Stopped off from motorway and cafe was busy. Staff helped organise me and granchildren onto two adjoining tables and experienced best coffee on my visit to Scotland. I even had to have seconds and ecclefechan tart - awesome!
03/09/2019: This cafe in Moffat is the best thing about driving up to Edinburgh - great soup, sandwiches and baked potatoes and wonderful cakes and coffee. Highly recommend.

Cavens Arms

Nith, Dumfries & Galloway
12/09/2019: The ribeye was very good. The Malibu chicken as well. Interesting selection of beer. Some hoppier than I expected, but not as much as America beers. The have a bat of 3 beers at 1/3 if a pint. Very nice atmosphere. Almost a restaurant with a bar rather than a pub with food.
09/09/2019: Caven's Arms is obviously popular with locals and tourists alike. Despite the busyness, the staff never seem to stress or forget one, instead offering warmth and good service.

Stir it

Stranraer and North Rhins, Dumfries & Galloway
13/09/2019: I ordered poached egg on toast with bacon and filter coffee. The coffee was not filtered but came in a cafe tier that had already been pushed down. It had not worked so the coffee was full of grounds that formed a muddy layer in the bottom of the cup. The poached egg was all but solid and on toast so hard that I could not cut or bite through the crust. I had to cut the crust off the slightly softer bread. The bacon also was over cooked and so hard that I could neither cut it or pick it up with a fork, but had to break it into pieces and eat with fingers. This cost me £9.30! For a place that had a best cafe award in 2017 it was not their best moment by far. I certainly will not return.
06/09/2019: Lovely cafe, great coffee, great cakes and so awesome to see some Aussie classics in Scotland!! Staff are fabulous, nothing was to much trouble! My Aussie kids could even get a Vegemite sandwich (a huge thing for an Aussie abroad) me and my family will definitely be back!
