Claudios Restaurant

Annandale North, Dumfries & Galloway
19/01/2020: I've been going to Claudios for over 12 years now. Maybe once or sometimes twice a year.
11/01/2020: The food here is great, if the quality of service matched the food we would be back all the time. However, after our mains had been delivered to the table it seemed that we became invisible. No one came over to ask how our food was/if we would like any more drinks (our glasses were empty). Once we had finished eating it took a while until anyone came over to clear our table and ask if we wanted anything else. They did kindly box up some remaining food however once that was brought over we sat for 40 minutes before anyone acknowledged us again. One member of staff walked past our table 4 times and while we tried to get her attention she ignored us completely. After we had asked for the bill it took roughly 10 minutes to get it as I watched the waiter we had asked clear a table, take another couples order and then stock the fire before going to get it. What we intended to be a relaxing romantic meal turned into the opposite.

Harbour Inn

Mid Galloway, Dumfries & Galloway
11/01/2020: Those of us who are sufficiently fortunate to have the 'Harbour Inn' on our doorstep throughout the year are never surprised at its popularity when the holiday season commences such is the ever present warmth on entering from all who pleasantly service this place, until leaving. Yesterday evening held no exception. The weekly tempting variety menu apart, Friday seafood specials from our experience provide succulent 'Starters' and spoilt-for-choice 'Mains'. "How about":- Cajun spiced fillet of Halibut with oven roasted vegetables, lime and parsley butter with a choice of side order. (That beautifully cooked dish really 'hit the spot') My wife thoroughly enjoyed 'Pan seared fillet of Sole' served with Haggis mash potato, cheddar and (Arran whisky sauce thoughtfully served separately) with a side of vegetables. Thank you all at the 'Harbour Inn' for the past 12 months of 'Friday Seafood Specials' and now looking forward to the next twelve months. (- lack of 'foody photos' I'm afraid. It's taken several years for me to appreciate that my photographs never ever reflect the amount of effort in presentation nor convey the lovely aromas or flavour)
03/01/2020: Our second new year visit to the village and this pub.

Annandale North, Dumfries & Galloway
20/01/2020: For a meal, drinks or coffee and cake I would highly recommend this place. Really friendly and welcoming staff. Outstanding food.
09/01/2020: Popped in for lunch and wasn’t disappointed .. Great for meat eaters or veggies Enjoyed the cheese & Mushroom Panini with the tomato soup .. Plus we went to the comfy seats for an after lunch gin !!

La Dolce Vita

Nith, Dumfries & Galloway
15/01/2020: The night had started off well but then we realised that there was a dead fly in the water on the table and we had to ask for it to be replaced.
14/01/2020: Another great night great food as ever

Abbey, Dumfries & Galloway
06/11/2019: Booked this for my mums birthday and despite being extremely busy all staff made sure this was a memorable experience for my mum. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was outstanding. We will definitely return next year.
01/11/2019: Popped in here for cake and drink after walking in area. Whilst not a large cake selection for vegan/dairy /gluten free, there were two full menus for vegan and gluten free covering breakfasts and lunches. Also various milk options. Staff were friendly and happy to help with our dietary needs. Very busy!

Castle Restaurant

Dee, Dumfries & Galloway
20/01/2020: Great find, hotel I was staying in was having kitchen renovations so had to find somewhere else. Excellent food, great hospitality and very very very generous with the amazing chips. Rest of the food was also outstanding. All down to chefs tricks of resting the meat.
29/12/2019: My husband and I had a meal here on Christmas eve. We were told what food was being cooked before we decided. My husband chose from the menu, a 2 course meal for £18, turkey dinner and cheese and biscuits. I had the excellent lamb dish, very tender with vegetables cooked just right, and roast spuds, mint gravy. My husband's turkey was cut really thick, and was so tender. We shared cheese and biscuits. The owner brought us a free drink each at the end. There was a party of eight in too , a family, i think who must have also booked early. The room is small, but certainly makes up for it in ambience, friendliness and excellent food served by 2 lovely waitresses.

Mid Galloway, Dumfries & Galloway, 20-30£
09/11/2019: ReadingLasses takes a lot of beating, soups are to die for, always delicious, cake's to blow your mind. Service is with a smile, and so helpful. Oh and the coffee is good too
30/10/2019: Popped into Reading Lasses on a brief trip through Wigtown. It's a nice little place where you can grab a cuppa and some cake while having a quick read of the many books if you're so inclined. I can't say much about the cake as I only bought a coffee, but the fact that you can chill out surrounded by interesting books is something all you book lovers will adore about the place. There are many rooms chock to the rafters with all manner of authors literary delights. Take a load off, grab a cuppa and a book, and enjoy the peace and quiet, you won't be disappointed.

Cavens Arms

Nith, Dumfries & Galloway
02/01/2020: The Cavens Arms is a great pub. Fab atmosphere and friendly locals. The staff are brilliant, efficient and friendly. The food is superb. 4 family members went three nights in a row and ordered different things each night. We were not disappointed. It is excellent and when we are in this area in the future we will head there.
30/12/2019: Lovely meal and great service at Cavens. Was recommended to us by friends and we will certainly be back!

11/01/2020: Casa Mia new year's bash!!! Well the night was ok! But was well over priced!! Food was nothing special but passable! Service very slow ,waited half an hour for first drink ! And another half hour to be served ! Needed one waiter per two tables ! Band an old favourite of ours didn't disappoint . Still waiting for the advertised firework display ! Not a fan of a surcharge on bill !! So no extra tip from us !

The Selkirk Arms Bar, Bistro and Restaurant

Dee, Dumfries & Galloway, 30-45£
08/01/2020: Best place to eat in the entire area - In early January even the local fish and chop is shut, but the Selkirk Arms is very very busy and deservedly so. Food was well prepared and presented.
30/12/2019: Food was great, nice and hot and kids food came really quick. Managed a Lemon Posset as well which was delicious. We all had the festive fayre menu and we all had a taste of each other’s food. Bar was so cosy and inviting and buzzing.

The Steamboat Inn

Lochar, Dumfries & Galloway
06/01/2020: We visited The Steamboat on a short holiday to Galloway Forest Park. What a find. Welcomed us even with our 3 dogs (spaniels). Loved it so much the first time we visited again on our way home. Lovely log fires with comfy chairs right in front. Staff were chatty and friendly and didny even mind when our soppy spaniel sat in our lap on the comfy chair!
02/01/2020: We booked a table for 7 in the window with glorious views of the Solent Firth for lunch. The fire was lit. Our dog was welcomed.

Mrs Greens Tea Lounge

Nith, Dumfries & Galloway, <20£
19/01/2020: Stopped off in Dumfries on our way home and found Mrs Green's. It's a great eclectic place with good music on in the background. The food is great and the staff are friendly. Would definitely go back when we next travel that way.
15/12/2019: Found shelter in this medium sized retro themed cafe. Great service and freshly prepared meals. Extremely tasty burgers served with a small green salad and couscous. Reasonably priced also. Really regret not having a scone or any of the other tasty cakes.

The Royal Cafe

Wigtown West, Dumfries & Galloway
01/11/2019: My family and I often come here. Menu fantastic , prices fantastic , service brilliant , food lovely but most of all the owner and staff always make us feel welcome which to me is as important as the generous portions of beautiful freshly cooked food. Highly recommended
14/10/2019: Came here whilst on holiday, sat at front as we had our dog with us, staff friendly and great food reasonably priced

Thomas Tosh

Mid and Upper Nithsdale, Dumfries & Galloway, 45-60£
07/01/2020: We had a lovely lunch here on our way to Portpatrick for Christmas. Although it was Christmas Eve and busy when I phoned in the morning they were able to fit us in. Great value for money and delicious food.
26/12/2019: We've had some delicious lunches and brunches at Thomas Tosh this month, December. Coffee is always so good. Cake highlights - Toffee Apple Cake and Viccy Sponge. And you can't beat their local smoked bacon ciabata rolls. You must try the Apple cake, you won't regret it. The gift shop was stacked full of beautiful things. We got almost all our family gifts there this year. Excellent book selection, hamper goodies, booze, and the adorable porcelain tree ornaments were my favourites. Lovely. Thank you to Team Thomas Tosh.
