North Harbour Bistro & Tearoom

Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
07/11/2018: Stunning food and location. Friendly staff. Would thoroughly recommend a visit her, it's worth the price tag. Book well in advance and BYOB!
01/11/2018: The food was excellent. But pricey. Its also incredibly busy. We only got in because we were willing to eat as soon as they opened and had an open table. The food is beautifully presented, tasted incredibly good and desert is wonderful.

Fig & Thistle

Inverness Central, Highland
13/12/2018: My husband I just love the Fig and Thistle Bistro in Inverness. Each time we visit we always pop along for lunch and have to say it has to be THE BEST bistro we have come across. Every item on the menu and specials board is so tempting it’s hard to choose. We had starters, main and desserts, drinks and coffees all for £46. The flavours, the presentation, OMG it’s amazing. Starter we shared .. chicken liver parfait. MAins ..pork loin and Thai curry. Desserts . Crema Catalana and meringue with forest fruits and coconut Ice cream. Yes.. we tried Each other’s choices and the taste was .... you know where you see tv commercials when they close their eyes just drinking coffee... well that was me with every bite of my lunch. We have never been disappointed by this fabulous Bistro. The ambience is warm and inviting, the food to die for, soft music in the background and the staff are very friendly and attentive. Looking forward to our next trip to Inverness in January.
12/12/2018: We enjoyed a very pleasant relaxed evening meal at the Fig and Thistle. There was a good choice on the menu, including specials - I had the Hake for my main, which was perfectly cooked (easy to over-cook!) and beautifully presented, with an interesting and very tasty mix of seasonal vegetables and dressing. The service was quick and professional, and genuinely friendly staff made us feel very welcome. The ambience is calm and relaxed, and altogether a thoroughly pleasant dining experience. Well done!

The Potting Shed

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh, Highland, >100£
17/11/2018: We both chose the Applecross Bay prawns which were absolutely delicious and a good portion too. Luckily we just about had enough room for a cranachan for dessert. We both agreed that it was the best cranachan we had ever tasted . Nice setting and lovely waitress. We will definitely be back.
14/11/2018: 3 course meal starter was 4.5/5 main course 4.5/5 and the dessert a disasterous disappointment 1/5 it was like chewing gum and spoilt the meal .. don't go for pavlova

The Pier Cafe

North, West and Central Sutherland, Highland
21/11/2018: We planned our day in order to stop here for lunch given the excellent reviews below including one stating the place was dog friendly. We were really disappointed to be told ' no dogs'. Put a real damper on lunch on a wet horrible day. Food was fine - what I would expect.
12/11/2018: The Pier offers good coffee and cakes. Nice staff and good working WIFI. A nice place to relax with a great view.

The cafe at the Carnegie Hall

Inverness Central, Highland
17/10/2018: Just what you need after visiting Tarbert Ness. Great coffee, sandwiches, soups and cakes. What more do you need?

The Wee Puffin

Badenoch and Strathspey, Highland, <20£
13/11/2018: Quaint little restaraunt cafe bar! Popped in and was not sorry, everything in place for a pleasant experience, great service great food and drinks menu! A must try!
06/11/2018: This is a great place to eat everything is home made very tasty . People who run it are very welcoming and friendly . Suggest you book in advance we did and we were not disappointed. It was that good we booked for the following night .. a good selection of different drinks including a very large selection of malt whiskey .. I highly recommend this one 10 out of 10

River House Restaurant

Inverness Central, Highland, 30-45£
18/12/2018: Went along with my wife and daughter. The monkfish was one of the best dishes I have ever had. Friendly staff and great food. I'll be back.
09/12/2018: Ashamed to say that being a local this is the first time I have visited but it certainly won’t be the last! We had the set Pre Christmas menu which was fantastic value and had a great choice of quality food to choose. The staff were so attentive and very welcoming. A very cosy relaxed atmosphere and they make a mean cocktail too!

The Bealach Cafe and Gallery

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh, Highland
18/11/2018: Stopped here for coffee and cake and it was excellent , very friendly staff , great location. Would highly recommend
17/11/2018: Stopped off here after a day out exploring/walking in Kishorn & Shieldaig. Its in a lovely location just at the junction for Shieldaig/the Bealach na Ba. There is also a craft gallery on site, and they sell local honey, jams, etc. They have a good and varied menu, I opted for soup to warm me up - red pepper and lentil which was delicious, followed by rhubarb crumble cake (yum!) and coffee. Very reasonably priced, obviously very popular with locals as well as visitors.

Carrbridge Kitchen

Badenoch and Strathspey, Highland
11/12/2018: Stunning food, well cooked. Lovely atmosphere, if your passing or want a treat pop in you won't be dissapointed
29/11/2018: A group of nine of us were cycling in the area - called by to say what time we'd be calling in and they had a big table waiting for us. Superb coffee, excellent baked potato and salad, and super-friendly helpful and welcoming staff. Log burner taking the chill off - only problem was how difficult it was to leave! 100% recommended - would love a cafe of this quality in the Peak District!

Ellishadder Art Cafe

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland
20/10/2018: Due to the rating on tripadvisor we thought we would give this place a try when passing.
18/10/2018: We were so pleased to have found this wonderful cafe to visit during our stay. The food was all lovingly made and we were made to feel so welcome - including our dogs. To have found such a lovely place with 1) vegan food and 2) dogs welcome - it was ideal and a pleasure for all the family. The soup and cakes were delicious - a memorable visit for all the best reasons.

Cornerstone Restaurant

Caol and Mallaig, Highland
01/11/2018: A bit tricky trying to establish when they open but once inside an excellent well presented meal. Not a large choice of menu but together with specials there is a varied choice of food. Very friendly and very cleanly appointed. Definitely recommended but do check opening times in advance.
27/10/2018: Had lunch here with the family. Fish and chips, Cullen Skink and mussels were excellent! Service was impeccable, and desserts went down a treat with the kids too. The restaurant gets filled up quickly as soon as the Jacobite Steam Train comes in from Fort William, so they normally don't take bookings at those times.

The Foveran Restaurant

Kirkwall West and Orphir, Orkney Islands, 30-45£
27/11/2018: There is a warm welcome at this lovely restaurant situated 5 minutes by car from Kirkwall. A cosy lounge area is perfect for relaxing before your meal. The food is superb and the menu well balanced. Our steaks were cooked to perfection. The outstanding staff are both friendly and thoughtful.
23/11/2018: Great place with a good vibe and super food served by friendly staff - certainly worth a special visit if on the Island.

Birsay Bay Tearoom

West Mainland, Orkney Islands
08/12/2018: Went here a couple of weeks ago, around 3pm. Lucky enough to time it when it was getting quieter. Staff were friendly, high chairs, self-service water, Ikea cups and a Christmas quiz for the kids with a wee edible prize were all great touches. place is fantastically set with fabulous panoramic sea views with great information on the surrounding geography. Sunset was fast approaching which added to the experience. Coffee and cake was wonderful, we will be back!
24/10/2018: We've had many lunches at Birsay Bay Tearoom and every time we come away happy. This time, a rainy October day, we had to wait for a table. But we knew it would be worth the wait. Food is simple but tasty. You order at the counter, but the staff is friendly and smiling. Well worth the drive to.

Sutor Creek

Black Isle, Highland
16/12/2018: The venue for our work Christmas meal out and what a great start to the festive season it was. I chose the set Christmas menu and it was delicious! Good value for money and I was one happy and full lady at the end of the meal. My friends also all throughly enjoyed their choices. One thought the Hake was spectacular. The roast turkey was some of the best I've ever eaten and their Lemon possets are the best end to any meal! Yum!
15/12/2018: This was a birthday celebration and hugely disappointing. The restaurant was extremely cold to the point that one of the party wore her puffa jacket throughout.

Russell's Restaurant

Caol and Mallaig, Highland, 30-45£
25/10/2018: Everything was fantastic. In particular the Cullen Skink was the best soup we have ever had. Other starters were equally good. The PE teacher said his steak was good meat. The octogenarian thought the venison was fantastic. Hope to come back again.
12/10/2018: Russell's is an attractive and somewhat formal restaurant. Our host, Robert, is anything but formal. He is witty, charming, occasionally outrageous, and very entertaining. But he is very good as host, and made sure we had an enjoyable evening. The food at Russell's is traditional, beef, venison, duck, halibut, well-prepared and served. Very good wine list.
