Ownies Bar

Killycrot, Carrickfergus, <20£
13/03/2019: Great food awesome service class that there Was a lift to the upstairs as we had are grandmother who is Ninty six and this made getting upstairs a lot easier
08/03/2019: My uncle has always lived in Carrickfergus so knows the eateries there inside out and when staying with him, I wanted to treat him to lunch. Without hesitation he said Ownies. Ownies is an independent pub, cozy with open fires and lovely atmosphere. Mum had previously eaten there with my uncle and had loved the seafood chowder (which is their signature dish). I have dietary requirements so phoned the previous day to see if it was possible to make some amendments and they said everything is cooked fresh to order so there would be no problem (also assured me that people make requests like that all the time and I shouldn’t feel that I was being difficult (which sometimes happens) and they are more than happy to cater for anything). So I was able to have a wonderful chowder with vegan cheese and soya milk that honestly wouldn’t have known the swaps and my uncle had the sea bass with champ (on the menu had other potatoes but they are really happy to swap sides if you prefer). Overall was a wonderful experience and we were chatting away with the table next to us who were clearly enjoying the wonderful food and atmosphere too. Excellent food, reasonably priced oh, and good Guinness, ales, wines too!

Square View Restaurant

Woodburn, Carrickfergus
23/02/2019: Excellent meal and really great value. Ox cheeks were superb! Service was good as usual. Recommended.
10/02/2019: Vame for breakfast but it stopped at 11.30.. Had a Sunday dinner instead.. It was great, as always.. Would highly recommend..

Mermaid Kitchen and Bar

Royal Portrush, Coleraine
31/01/2019: Visited Mermaid Kitchen & Bar for a family lunch on Sunday 16th December. Upon arrival at 1pm the restaurant was fairly empty but didn't take long to fill up. The food was simply delicious. I had the goat's cheese and beetroot salad and would agree with opinions from other reviewers that the excess quantity of goat's cheese imbalances the dish. I ordered that Sunday's special of 12hr braised beef which was so tender and delicious. Others enjoyed the roast chicken breast and the seafood Thermidore.
27/01/2019: Booked a table but arrived 20 mins earlier and got shown straight in. Menu was varied and extensive. Food arrived very well presented and delicious-highly recommend! Plus side is no kids allowed!

Millside Restaurant

Galgorm, Ballymena
21/01/2019: This is one of nice little, out of the way, restaurants that serves good hearty dependable fare. The service is good and customers are well looked after. I would definitely recommend it for a group night out.
16/01/2019: Having visited Millside restaurant several times I have always found the food and service to be great with a good choice on the menu .

Truva Meze

Waterside, Coleraine, <20£
06/01/2019: Thanks to all the staff and owners for accommodating our last minute request for a table on New Year's Eve. Food was amazing, service 1st class and the atmosphere and entertainment made our night. Special thanks to the owners for finding us a table at short notice. A lot of your regular customers, friends and family were also with you on New Year's Eve so it was extra special to be with you all and celebrate the arrival of 2019. We highly recommend Truva to anyone who loves food, friends and a great place to visit must try the wine that the owner suggests's amazing !!
06/01/2019: We went here for a celebratory meal a week after we got married. The setting in the restaurant is relaxing and we were served promptly. The food was amazing! I had the chicken kebab and my husband had the lamb kebab. The favours we gorgeous. After eating we didn’t feel over indulged but happily satisfied. Would definitely recommend this restaurant. Top class food.

The Tides

Atlantic, Coleraine
12/02/2019: Revisited this Resturant with regret. I should have know better, it hadn’t improved!! The food was warm not hot. The chips were soft and soggy, obviously fried in oil that wasn’t hot enough to crisp them up. Overall not acceptable.
06/02/2019: Amazing setting for a restaurant, we were lucky to get a window table over looking the sea and Portrush. We had lunch, two courses for £10, menu is extensive, good portion sizes. I had smoked haddock with baby potatoes in a mustard sauce served with a poached egg on top followed by malteser cheesecake,

Bushtown Hotel

Macosquin, Coleraine
21/12/2018: Eat here today a family of 5 people booked or table for 3.30 were seated on time service was very good 3 of us has christmas lunch the other had from the main menu food was great super size portions desserts were super and service were great all in all a super day out 10 out 10 frim start to finish
02/11/2018: We arrived for a two night stay on Wednesday 31 October - we were allocated Room 1. Never in 30 years have we stayed in a more dated room - blanket on the bed with a hole in it! No duvet! The bed itself was not the usual hotel king size but a small double. What looked like a cigarette burn in the carpet and a view of a brick wall. Despite the room hotel guide which said room service was provided there was no telephone in the room!! However we did not complain because it was a very cheap 2 night stay. But then came the breakfast which was basically what I can only describe as barely warm- especially the coffee. On our first night an alarm was activated which lasted for an ear piecing 20mins. We could not phone reception to find out what was happening so I had to hurriedly dress after my shower and go to the desk. We had to leave our room on the advice of reception staff. Dinner on the first night was fine. On our second night there was a power cut! We were told on arrival that dinner was available until 8.25-8.30pm so on the second night we arrived for dinner at 7.55pm to be told the kitchen was closed because of the power cut which lasted about 5mins. We explained we were guests and asked to speak the manager who went into the kitchen - we were then immediately given a table. When our meal arrived it was totally inedible! My chicken was so over-cooked it was actually tough. The bacon mash had burnt bits of cabbage or bacon in it - hard to tell what it was! My hubbys chips arrived with burnt pieces and his Scampi was very over cooked as well. When paying the bill he mentioned this to the waitress and we were not charged for the food -which was very much appreciated. On our last day we left the hotel at 9.15am actually glad to be going home! There may be better refurbished rooms in the hotel so avoid Room 1!

Restaurant @ The Inn at Castledawson

Glebe, Magherafelt
18/06/2018: Visited The Inn and had a lovely meal, can’t fault it, great location, food was very good and service was spot on.It was a shame we were the only people there. The waiter assured me it wasn’t always like this and I hope this is the case as it couldn’t have made any money that night.
30/12/2017: No hassle food prepared , presented and delivered. A small quaint country bar in the Seamus Heaney District. A lot of history in this old Establishment.

The Fern Room

Castle Demesne, Ballymena
02/07/2018: I was visiting Ballymena on a half-day trip from Belfast doing some genealogy exploration in the area. I stumbled upon the Fern Room atop the McKillan shoe store (probably one of the largest shoe stores I've ever been in, btw). I was anticipating a quaint, lacy, antiquey type of tea room, but its more like a cafeteria. Little ambiance. Small salad bar, some hot foods. Honestly nothing appealed to me so I chose a scone and bottle of water. The scone was fine, nothing special, but did the trick for me. Several tables of people (mostly women) who looked to be taking a shopping break. Its certainly well located for that.
15/04/2018: Such a privilege to be able to eat here often. The food is always great with a good selection. The owner of the building that the cafe is in always personally checks if you’re okay with everything and it is always good to talk with an honest man like Thomas. Here is upper class food at its best.

Drumnakeel Herb Garden & Restaurant

Glenshesk, Moyle
