Waited an hour for meals to arrive. The meal was not as hot as we would have liked. Yorkshire pudding over cooked, when cut into, it disintegrated. Service could be better, very little interaction. We ate because we were hungry and didn't want to have to wait any longer. To be fair the setting is wonderful, very clean and prices very reasonable. Disappointed.

Excellent, all I could say was that, we initially went here back in September just for a hideout from the weather, ordered a rump steak and pork medallions, it was nice so are the servers. It was our 5th anniversary yesterday, I asked for a window table upstairs with very good view of the shore and they very kindly offered one, really appreciated, the food was good as usual, we had lemon posset for dessert which was super! Definitely coming back and highly recommended!

Good night - been here before. Food very good - I had the half duck which was great however main courses took a very long time to arrive although fairly busy when we arrived at 7.30 Service fine but table very difficult to enter as two of us had to pull table tight to allow 2 friends to get into their seats. OK later when table behind us vacated. Would go again if in area but hopefully would get better table.

Extremely disappointed in the service this evening. We normally enjoy our meal here, however I am afraid the experience we had this evening would put me off ever going back. We were seated downstairs where the chef shouted every order, this highly disrupted our meal as we could barely hear each other speak. You could tell others were uncomfortable by this too. When my steak burger arrived it was overcooked, dry and due to this I could not eat. Very disappointed.

Fabulous dinner this evening with a view of the clouds over the cliffs here in Northern Ireland. The timing of the meal was great, the service was great, the food was great. Of course, by the seaside one must have seafood so it was the fried octopus to start. Served over a small salad in a light dressing, four rings was an excellent appetizer. Fresh and hot, absolutely delicious and bite sized. For main, I chose the seafood spaghetti. Tasty with perfectly cooked pasta tossed in a sauce with white fish, salmon and more. It was very fishy and I cleared the plate. Dessert was offered but I chose to simply finish my pint of pilsner. A lovely meal and definitely five stars.

We went for dinner at around 8pm, there was no wait and we managed to reserve a table with fairly short notice. The restaurant has a lovely view over the sea and the food was delicious. We ordered spaghetti Bolognese, slow cooked beef and garlic potatoes with their mushroom sauce, and for putting ordered Lemon Posset. The waits between food/orders were quick and the staff were friendly. The prices are definitely reasonable for the food you get and the plates are definitely big and filling and the pudding came with many different little 'extras'. However, the rooms are quite crammed and it can be very loud. Babies are allowed in the main dining areas so keep in mind that it can be especially noisy, which happened when we were visiting. Nearly got charged for another table's order along with ours as there are tables which share numbers, so check receipts before paying, however it is possibly that this was a one-off mistake. We had to ask many times for water before we were brought any, and it seemed like the staff were very rushed

Great food and lovely scenery however... This is not our first time visiting but certainly our first disappointment. The service was extremely poor. We had booked out tables in advance. When we wanted to order anything we had to physically go looking for a member of the waiting staff. To top it off the air conditioning was not working. I have experienced the heat upstairs previously but tonight was horrendous. No effort to reduce the heat and you are left to melt while eating your dinner and dessert when it finally arrived. We will have to seriously consider returning in the future due to the poor efforts of serving staff. This was for a family of 10 people.

We waited 45 minutes for garlic bread starter although in fairness the waiter explained that that was his fault …he was very pleasant and he did apologise …food was lovely in fact but we didn’t have time for dessert as our pre booked taxi was waiting due to time restraint in view of waiting so long for food

Restaurant with privileged views of the coast. Too bad our table was facing the road. We ate well, correct service. I didn't like the "institutionalized" way of asking for tips when paying. I am totally against what tips represent. I believe in paying workers with dignity and everything that tips represent bothers me, from servility to differences in customer treatment based on their economic possibilities. It's a US trend with a certain presence in some places in Europe, luckily not in many, and it makes me feel really uncomfortable. I understand that the hospitality industry sells a product for which it charges a price that I accept or not. If I like the service I will recommend it and repeat it, and if I don't like it I won't return.

The staff were not very friendly, seems like they need improvement in customer service. The only staff who smiled was the girl with a tattoo on her arm who served our food. The food was good enough, the duck and the wrap was too dry. The braised beef was very tasty and the food presentation was very nice. The ambience is what you pay for in this restaurant. This restaurant was always one of our favourite places we loved to visit when in Portstewart, sadly after today’s visit we won’t be rushing back. Prices are extortionate, your sides are available at an extra cost. 1 member of our party had to return their mains (salmon) as it was stone cold, the waitress advised she would sort another one, another person left most of their mains salt & chilli chicken burger which was saturated in grease and barely any taste of chilli. After a long wait we cancelled the second salmon dish as it still hadn’t arrived. I think this place needs to seriously address their chiefs skills because something is greatly lacking in this area. Avoid this restaurant if your looking for a hot, tasty meal at a reasonable price! I wish i’d checked the reviews on trip advisor before I booked.

I have noticed a real deterioration in the quality of food at tides from my previous experience a few years ago, I ordered a chicken wellington and it definitely was not as expected, there was hardly any pastry in the meal just a very small slab of chicken with mushroom sauce, then my friend and her son ordered chicken gougons and the meat was pink in both dinners and we raised a concern about this , the waitress did say that a number of customers had raised this concern recently, and assured us the pink chicken was ok, however we did not take the risk especially as it was a child,......... pink chicken is a definite no no ! Futhermore when you ordered a meal like gammon, literally all that came on your plate was gammon.......and nothing else, no veg no potatoes, so you have to order your veg and potatoes separate and they are priced separate as are your sauces........it's a bit like ordering an item of furniture from IKEA......you have to build it yourself! Definitely not a satisfying experience there on this occasion and I can't imagine that I would return again, extremely disappointed.

The food alone ruined our visit. Im writing his review in a vain attempt to pull the inflated average score down. After seeing Giants Causeway, we picked The Tides based on its relatively high rating and ocean views. But as the food came out, it quickly became obvious that the ratings are either padded or more reflective of the view and the service. First off, the menu itself is all over the place. Billed as Modern European, according to Google, it ranges from Italian to American to Chinese with nothing particularly irish. Sections are broken down by protein. There is no other rhyme or reason to it. Sides and sauces (like ketchup... yes. Ketchup) are sold separately. They clearly get a lot of tourists and feel they need to offer variety, but the result is they aren't really delivering. Our 2 year old got the chilli chicken penne, which came out [literally] piping hot even for an adult. Anyone with a toddler knows convincing them to let their food cool down for a solid 10 minutes is a fools errand. Once it did cool, every piece of pasta our daughter stabbed with a fork fell apart (either over cooked or cheap pasta), creating another hurdle resulting in her launching hot penne and a sauce covered fork indiscriminately across the table out of sheer frustration. We then got the goat cheese and beet starter. Easy enough.. but something just didn't taste right with the goat cheese. A sort of sweetness ive never tasted in goat cheese overpowered... the goat. Look, I'm persian. I eat a LOT of goat cheese at all kinds of price points. Maybe this was a local product I didn't have experience with, but I have a strong feeling that whatever this was didn't come from some farm down the road. Not terrible. Just clearly not good quality cheese. For dinner, my wife got the asian duck wraps (obvious mistake). The duck was bone dry. Looking at a cross section of the meat revealed it had dried about half way into each piece leaving a sliver of edible duck in the center to dig out. Needless to say we couldn't finish it. I ordered the Salt and Chilli chicken sandwich, which is a fried chicken sandwich. Before I go further, I want to point out something. You'll notice the word Chilli is used in both mine and my daughters dish. Whatever the "chilli" flavor is in each... its different. So I gather that the Irish use the word Chilli to mean spicy or more like peppery? Which makes no sense. Chilli is an American word meaning a stew typically consisting of ground beef. Chili (one L) is the word they're [probably] looking for, referring to a red pepper. You could argue chilli is how Irish people use it so that's on me, but again... why bother with a menu that offers 5 different cuisines for tourists unaccustomed to your unique turns of phrase? Seems like a recipe for confusion. I digress.. The salt and pepper chicken sandwich was heavy on the salt and heavy on the pepper. Miraculously, the chicken inside was actually juicy. But the pound of pepper thrown in ruined it. The chips I ordered with it were also extremely salty. And half the chips in the order were those flat rejects that fry into shards of glass. Like, how do you mess up chips in ireland. Isn't that their thing?? Oh and the ketchup I paid extra for was mixed with vinegar. Yeah I get it... thats how they eat their chips. But tell me that before you charge me for "plain ketchup." Again, full disclosure the views are incredible and the wait staff deserve to serve better food (but pro tip... don't make me ask for a refill on water. It's tacky)

Tides used to be the place we went on each visit to the area…unfortunately this visit has now put us off. We were sat at our table for no more than 45 minutes in total. Food arrived a few minutes after ordering, drinks did not arrive until half way through the meal. As soon as we had finished we were immediately asked if we wanted dessert. We declined and less than 1 minute later the bill was on the table. We were a little surprised but since we had still got all of our drinks left (due to their late arrival) we didn’t what to pay yet. Another two minutes passed when a waitress came up and said they “NEEDED” our table and we would have to pay and move to sit downstairs with our drinks. My booking only allowed 1hr 15 minutes but this was still half an hour away.- we were so shocked we obliged but we have never had worse service and felt so rushed in our lives. So poor from Tides.

One portion of chips between us would have been more than enough, portions were big which isn't a complaint. Was glad of a dander back to the hotel after. Thanks Tides for a lovely night. 😊

Went here for dinner with the kids. We just turned up and were seated quickly. Super impressed with the little kids menu pack which included crayons and colouring so major kudos there. The menu was decent but our server (quite young) was confused about the kids meal deal which we had to query several times to get to the bottom of. Kids food was good quality and decent portions and my son absolutely loved his Tuck Shop Sunday desert which was literally his dream desert! Adults wise I got the steak which I found underwhelming all it came with was a mountain of crispy onions. I did get a portion of chips also on the side and do note they unbelievably charge 40p for ketchup!!! My wife got the Thermidor which was nice but came with very little. My recommendation is get plenty of sides if you want to feel sated and probably say avoid the steak. Venue wise it is very nicely styled and the staff were friendly but I fear our very young waiter had a lot to learn yet.

Arrived at our designated time, got seated promptly, and then we were left alone for nearly 20 minutes before I had to ask if somebody would take our order. We started to eat over an hour later. Poor service, staff are too young with no training. This is sad because I have loved Tides in the past, but unfortunately, things have fallen by the way side.

Tides was good. We were a group of 7 people, and everyone enjoyed dinner. Cocktails were tasty, and food was OK. I ordered beef Wellington, and it wasn't what I expected (more deconstructed), but my son found his fish tasty. The red jelly dessert was a highlight for him! The restaurant was noisy, but it's because they were full and we couldn't get parking outside, so we had to illegally park on the sidewalk. Our waitress was friendly and helpful.

Had family home from England, booked a table on Wednesday evening 3rd April. Staff where very friendly but unfortunately the food was average. My brother in law got duck with noodles he said it was ok. My son's Gammon was fatty and tough, his mash potato was dried out, and my chicken Wellington was tasteless, sour cream fries had been reheated. Definitely wouldn't be in any rush back.

I have been coming to Tides frequently for past few years with family buy the last three times I have visited there (within last 3 months) the food has been very poor as he price has increased. I ordered my food at 17:18 and it arrived at 17:24. It was clear that the burger had been reheated and the garlic cubes were burnt. My wife had the duck which was full of fat and the noodles had been reheated also. What once used to be a family favourite, unfortunately has turned out to be far from a positive experience these past three visits. It would be great to go back to tides and enjoy the good food that once was on offer.

Booked a table here on Monday 18 March, having eaten here many times we were looking forward to it! On this occasion the food can only be described as mediocre. The Shredded Duck Pancakes... Sliced fatty duck, not shredded nor crispy, the cucumber was thickly cut, more for dipping than the usual fine strips for duck pancakes! Stale prawn crackers. The main course of Honey Chilli Chicken noodles, chicken was dry and vertually no sauce on a bed of noodles with no sauce! The sour cream and chilli fries seemed stale, soggy as if they had been sitting for a while, the most disappointing thing was this was a mother's day gift! We complained and they didn't charge us for the duck, the table next to us also complained and they didn't pay for their duck either!!! At the moment definitely would not recommend!

Lovely atmosphere in this restaurant with great views over the pitch & putt course and the seascape. Staff were helpful and five of us enjoyed our food and conversation. Has a good beer and wine selection.

In a very beautiful place and close to the sea. We didn't like the food. We came because we were recommended 2 meals for one price and we found out that it doesn't exist. It's not the business' fault but we expected the prices we sent for £25 per dish to be received accordingly. It was not beef wellington in any case, the meat was overdone, the dough was dry and the mushrooms were not chopped and the way it was served was not close to what it should be. For a second course we ordered a steak which was dry and tough. Towards the end, they started folding the tables that we were still eating and gave the impression that they wanted us to leave. do not recommend

A beautiful location, but the food was mediocre at best and the atmosphere lacking. Some of the waiting staff were attentive, but not all. Overall the experience was disappointing.

I’ve attended tides for some time now and always amazing service. However I attended on Saturday and my opinion has drastically changed. Service was fairly poor, staff getting drinks order wrong, and didn’t seem impressed when this was challenged however it was corrected. 2 course for price of main offer has now been removed, all meals didn’t come with sides. Our meals weren’t overly hot, quality appears less than normal, portions reduced. Just overall my experience was not as good as all the times I previously had.

I ordered the chicken supreme which came with a ‘block’ of dauphinois potatoes, broccoli, gravy and 2 very small pieces of chicken. It was accompanied by a purée of carrot with a hint of star anise (baby food). It was possibly the worse meal I’ve ever had. What were they thinking? £19 later. The dinner is in the bin and I shall never eat in there again.

On arrival room wasn't ready. They were to leave a prepaid treat costing £15 a piece of dried chocolate cake.It was the dearest sweet I ever bought. When we arrived in room. As we looked out of our window in both window sills were dead flies and coffee table was filthy. Dressing table could have written your name on it . Toilet lid cracked. Empty shower gel jar left in shower. General room felt dirty. But room was spacious. The last time we stayed here we were in a smaller room but was clean. We told a member of staff and they did go up and cleaned it.To make our experience worse they told on arrival that the pool was closed too health and safety.

Delicious breakfast, lots of choice from continental to full Northern Irish, also gluten free options. Service was excellent too.
