Delicious food at a good price and great portions. We will definitely come back again.

Smokey wet log was put into the open log burner/fire, causing the entire place to be filled with smoke. Bar was well stocked with alcohol but lacked in other options (e.g. not many soft drinks or hot chocolate). Young employee behind the bar came across unexperienced and possibly sheepish. They probably serve food but all we saw was an unplugged buffet fridge and empty plastic containers. Very central and close to Kielder Castle though

Called in on Easter Monday for a quiet brunch/lunch. Decent menu with Breakfast and Dinner options. My partner had lamb shank which was OK, I had the Lamb sizzler which was really nice. Finished off with a coffee and cake, they have a great selection of cakes, I opted for a chocolate truffle which was delicious.

Isn’t it lovely when you stumble upon a place and the Chef can not only cook but cares about what he is sending over the pass. For us just a quick Friday lunch buy wow it was excellent. A leek & Gruyere Quiche served hot with beautifully dressed salad - the dressing perfectly balanced served with an extra portion of hot crispy fries - just perfection. Well done Chef. Well done The Retreat

We are campervan-ers staying at the local campsite, a short walk down the river to Mackay's Hotel and restaurant. We'd read other reviews and were looking forward to a good meal after a day 'on the road'...and we weren't disappointed. We had friendly service from Graeme and Kirsty, who were prompt and attentive. We had the Cullen skink which was very tasty. I had chicken and my husband had fish and chips. Not huge portions but good quality, tasty food we very much enjoyed. I had local gin which was delicious. My husband had the only local ale on tap which was good. This is a relaxed environment, we did not eat in the bistro area but in a dining area which was fine. Thank you for a lovely meal and good banter.

A lovely interior and it's in a great location. The staff seemed super friendly and professional. They had a decent cocktail menu, but being a "Gin Bar" I feel their gin selection is pretty poor... They didn't have the first 2 gins I asked for, one of which was a very common brand. There's plenty of non specialist bars in the area with a better gin selection. I was also a bit disappointed at the lack of perfect serve. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I don't think I'll be back.

I had an excellent experience here! Highly recommend. Popped in for a quick bite for lunch, and so glad I did. Prinz (I hope I spelled your name correctly!!) was an absolute gem. I asked for some extra veggies added to my omelette, and he went the extra mile, cutting them all up perfectly and also serving the omelette with some bread which I’d asked for. Nourished and grateful for the compassionate service, I went back to finish the rest of my seminars. Will definitely be eating here again, thank you!

We have been to Glasgow on several occasions and really enjoyed the experience and atmosphere. Today, however was not good, from wrong whisky served, to over an hour wait on food. Granted the place was busy, but no apologies for the serving mistake or wait, will be a while before we return.

Went today for a breakfast 😋 as we ordered there was a power cut, but luckily managed to make breakfast which was delicious,the black pudding was cooked to perfection. Well done to the team for coping under the stress of a power cut.
