Green Bottle Cafe in Richmond upon Thames

My wife and I, visiting from South Africa and staying in St Margarets, wanted somewhere close by for a midday snack. We chose the first place just up the road and despite its dingy interior decided to give it a try because we saw it had outside seating at the rear. On our way through, a man thrust a menu at us, and without any form of welcome or greeting, brusquely stated that we needed to order at the counter. We sat in the cramped space outside, chose our fare, and I went to the counter where the same man was having a confrontation with a customer who wanted a half portion for his small child. He was belligerently informing the customer that he doesn’t do half portions. I waited patiently while the customer enquired about other options and the man was adamant that he could only order a full portion. His manner was surprisingly rude and before the customer could respond, the man barked at me … “Yes!” I gave our order and selected two cans of drink from the cooler. When he rang up the total, the one drink was more than that displayed on the cooler. I asked about the difference and received the same curt and dismissive attitude. The baguettes, when they were served by a female assistant, were acceptable. The drinks, like all the drinks in the cooler, were little less than room temperature. During our exit through this remarkably inhospitable establishment, I made eye contact with the man, wondering if he would ask us if we enjoyed our lunch - or even wish us farewell and come again. The glare I received cemented my decision to never return … and to share the experience.

We ate here by default. Our original plan had been to have lunch at ‘Grounded’ next door which happened to be closed. The welcome by the male host was superb with an informative explanation of the menu options. We selected the roasted cauliflower wrap and a tuna salad wrap. Both were excellent and served with a mixed bean and leaf salad. The menu choices were interesting and different and observing other menu choices enjoyed by other guests the presentation of food was superb. We will definitely return and the fantastic customer service was the icing on the cake !!

Had the Mediterranean breakfast. It was delicious. Lovely fresh produce. Perfect eggs. Nice having the honey too. Family members had vegetarian breakfast and the halloumi breakfast which were perfect too. Would recommend. Great service. Friendly and welcoming.

I think this cafe has changed hands for the better since the last review was written. I had a delicious cooked breakfast today. It’s all about the sausage, which was excellent but I thought the whole breakfast was good and, given the cost of living crisis, good value. The staff are friendly and helpful and I would recommend this to future diners.

Vegan café. Quite basic. They don't always have what's on the menu. Service can be very slow. Food is average. There's not a lot of choice but it's only a small place.

I came here with my family last weekend. We really enjoyed the food and smoothies ! I highly recommend the breakfasts ! they have a high variety of vegan and vegetarian options.

We had a lovely brunch here on Sunday . The service was very friendly and the food was delicious and beautifully presented . There is a lovely choice and the cafe itself is bright and cheerful. So many vegetarian and vegan options. We didn’t try the wraps or salads but they looked great too! Everything we ordered was great and the maple syrup pancakes 🥞 were delicious. Will definitely be adding this to a regular weekend brunch/ lunch destination. If you’re local , check it out !

The Green Bottle cafe is a wonderful cafe in St Margaret's village serving delicious vegan food, smoothies and juices. The vegan sushi is a highlight for me as well as the coffee! One of my favourite places to get it. They also serve an array of cakes and pastries. The staff are very friendly and go out of their way for you. There's a small seated area at the back as well as chairs at the front of the premises. Perfect place for coffee, lunch, to do some work or even have a business meeting.
