Came here to celebrate with my girlfriend and had one of the best meals we’d ever had. The quality of the food was impeccable and for very reasonable value considering what you get. The service was warm and prompt but not intrusive and the area around Kew was lovely to explore afterwards. Would highly recommend a visit! Will be dreaming of the soufflé

I was very pleased with my return to this place. I used to go many times when it was the Glasshouse. The wild garlic starter was superb as was the veal main. The marmalade bread and butter was a disappointment. It tasted of nothing but marmalade. A small issue! All in all I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Unfortunately the experience was underwhelming... When you're pricing yourself at this level, you're competing with some pretty serious local eateries in Silver Birch and La Trompette and Hawthorn falls some distance short. The food was OK - portion size good and all well cooked but nothing standout from a flavour perspective. It all came across as a little safe and unadventurous, probably best illustrated by the souffles which were largely tasteless and overwhelmed by the accompanying ice-cream. We also both found it difficult to hear at our table - might be a result of being sat by the window in a busy restaurant but this isn't something we've experienced elsewhere. Service was good enough but impersonal - no real effort to talk us through the menu nor any recommendations on wine. All in all, not really what we expected given the other reviews we've seen - maybe we just caught the restaurant on an off day?

This is my second visit at the Hawthorn since changing ownership from the Glasshouse. My first visit was on New Year's Eve 2023/24 and I can honestly say the food was absolutely amazing probably one of the best meals I have ever experienced, Sadly on my visit in late February for a Saturday evening dinner was ruined by the over seasoning of every dish everything was just much too salty including the desert, my wife was also of this opinion and she chose different dishes to myself. Quality and effort that went into the dishes was of top drawer.

Worth a detour … in the Michelin Guide this means two stars! While that might be an exaggeration, Hawthorne would certainly deserve one. The food was absolutely delicious and well presented. My oxtail ragout and the poussin were excellent and my rhubarb soufflé ’out of this world’. And while a restaurant with this quality of food is never cheap the price of £75 for a three-course menu (or £90 if you would like to include cheese) does certainly seem reasonable. Yes, a worthwhile successor of The Glasshouse!

Came with mother for a belated Christmas lunch. She'd been before, and thought I would like. So right, loved it. I had the terrine followed by roast beef, my first roast in many years. The Yorkshire was large, horseradish has a kick and gravy was flavoursome. With crispy potato's, medium rare beef and truffle cauliflower cheese I was smiling. For dessert I had the "posh" snickers, which I would say was closer to Mars bar. Either way it was delicious, with an amazing caramel. I found the wines by glass a little limiting, though was happy with my NZ choice. Service was impeccable. Personal, whilst not intrusive. I hope to return soon.

We had a lovely lunch. We were very surprised to see a corkage fee of £50 for a local restaurant when in most fine dining restaurants in London it’s around £25-£30. When querying it, we were told people like to take the mic… My husband and I frequent fine dining establishments and you either have corkage or not- but more than your entry level bottle of wine is not ok! We won’t be returning anytime soon.

I had dinner, and it was very disappointing. The entire atmosphere and interior design felt outdated—the chairs, tables, and everything looked old and it was far from what I expected. If you’re looking for a special fine dining experience with excellent food, this isn’t the place. I agree with some reviews mentioning overly salty dishes and ingredients that lack harmony. And the waiters are not even well-trained. our bill was around £250 for 2 people but I didn’t feel that it was worth it. Pls consider trying fine dining restaurant in Chiswick instead. Frankly, I’m not sure how this place even manages its rating - it feels overrated so much. (Reply to reply) I was for sure at your restaurant and the booking was not under my name.

Disappointed. No elegance in the menu recipes, they seem to merge too many flavours in almost each dish we had. We had: - beef fillet was well cooked, but veggies with it were too salty on top of truffle flavour - halibut fish was way too creamy, which doesn’t go well with halibuts natural flavours - dessert chocolate soufflé was terrible. The worst I have tried - sourdough bread was delicious —- Sadly, your response below 👇 just proves I wasn’t wrong. Either way, I wish you lovely Christmas and prosperous new year.

We had a superb Christmas Eve lunch at Hawthorn - an array of brilliant festive dishes (an immensely fine chicken liver parfait and a side of cauliflower cheese laced with truffle were particular highlights), all rounded off with a deliciously decadent set of desserts (the soufflé of dreams!) and a lavish selection from the cheese board. Wines also excellent. And the service! Every single member of the team was warm and attentive - no mean feat given the demands of a packed restaurant on the last day before the holidays. We can’t wait to return in the New Year.

A little slice of heaven next to Kew Royal botanical gardens. I booked Hawthorn for my annual "Friendsmas" event and as young people who want to discover new exciting foods from looking at the menu I knew we would be in for a treat. Dan is a wonderful human being who was so accommodating with the complexities a booking of 10 people with varying allergies and dietary needs can have. Constant patient communication Via email and phone to ensure everything was perfect and when there were issues on my side he and the team adapted. I am forever grateful to Dan and the team for allowing changes us to have menu choices and simply being kind. Now on to the food! several reports of it being delicious (including from myself). Special mentions go to Veloute of Delica Pumpkin, Fillet of 28 day Aged Hereford Beef, Varlhona 70% chocolate souffle and Slices of Iberico pork chop and rolled Confit Belly. I will be visiting again, whether that is as a group or with my partner and future family you have truly gained a customer who will visit for special occasions Thank you -Tara

We went for dinner on a Friday [15/12/2023] and, despite the restaurant ambiance and our seating were pleasant, our overall dining experience was disappointing. They only had a Christmas menu, which felt quite limited. The service, though friendly, was notably slow and lacked attentiveness - our pre-dinner cocktails arrived late, and there was no follow-up for additional drinks or any other preferences after we finished our meal. Regarding the food, it was a mixed bag. The Cured Orkney Scallops and Sea Bream dish didn't quite hit the mark - the combination of flavours wasn't appealing, and the lack of distinction between the scallops and sea bream was disappointing. The horseradish granita tasted of nothing, just a spoonful of cold sludge; the citrus dressing was unimpressive and lacked in flavour too. The Fillet of 28 Day Aged Hereford had earthy flavours that didn't suit our taste, and the beef lacked the expected taste profile. Presentation-wise, it also left much to be desired. However, the Valrhona 70% Chocolate Souffle with Pistachio Ice Cream was a highlight, offering a satisfying end to the meal. Also, they had an extensive wine list - we had a nice bottle of Slovakian red. Ultimately, despite the pleasant atmosphere and seating, the overall experience failed to meet our expectations. We won't be in a rush to revisit.

We had an excellent Saturday lunch on 9/12/23 at this restaurant, I having previously been to the restaurant when it was the Glasshouse. Food was wonderful with a very good accompanying short wine list especially Château Philippe le Hardi Mercurey 'Les Bois de Lalier' 2020. Faultless. I became aware of a very rude woman with her friend sitting by the window criticising the Maitre D loudly for not having explained things at the outset and in her experience in the business gave her the right to highlight his shortcomings. There are ways to give feedback and this wasn’t one of them. She needs to get over herself quite frankly. The Maitre D was most charming and tactful.the staff excellent

This is an absolutely fabulous Jewel in the heart of Kew, very close to Victoria Gate at Kew gardens and right next to the station; so if you are like me and like a nice glass or 2 of excellent wine with your lunch it's perfect for hoping on the tube or train afterwards. This was by far the best Sunday Lunch I have ever eaten out, ever, the generous portion of beef was perfectly cooked to my taste with veggies, trimmings and a gravy that took it to another level. I am so often disappointed by Sunday lunch and think I could have done better myself - not here! And at such a great price point too. The starter and desert, amuse bouche and breads are all included and I can't believe what good value this is - Its a set 3 courses but if you do the maths it turns out to be less expensive than many pubs but it's fine dining with an ambience and service that goes with it. I highly recommend!! I hope to be back very soon!

Overall the food there is a bit too salty but if you want something savoury from time to time, give it a try. I am not sure how they want to positioning themselves but seems they are going fine dining, however the table with 5 people next to us is extremely noisy! I saw other customers also keep looking at them when the women laugh and scream loudly every 4-5 mins. To be honest, the manager there should ask those loud people to lower their voices so as not to affecting other customers, sadly he did not. Sometimes these bits and pieces count.

Went for their midweek, lunch time three course menu, to celebrate a birthday. Service from the moment you arrive is great and they are very accommodating. My wife and I picked deliberately different dishes to try a range and everything was lovely, including the appetisers they bring you. Was stuffed by the time we left. Given the quality of everything experienced, it felt very fairly priced and essentially its fine dining, with a local restaurant feel. Perfect adaptation of what was the well recognised and much loved Glasshouse. Now there's a new favourite in town!

The food was fantastic - £65 for 3 courses + every course was beautifully presented + absolutely delicious. Home made bread + butter followed by foil gras parfait, halibut with gnocchi + tempura mussels + pear crumble soufflé. Service was faultless + friendly. If I had one criticism it would be that the lighting was awful, too many ceiling spotlights created a very bright room that wasn’t terribly romantic for an anniversary dinner!

Simulacrum - on reflection a word that well describes this restaurant. It appears like a Michelin star restaurant. The staff look smart, the food looks beautiful, a long and interesting wine list. However, whilst it looks like one it is t. It’s suffering from staffing - they are very nice but patently inexperienced. A waitress spent 2 minutes telling me how hot the plates were whilst holding them bare handed. It would have been better to tell us what was on the plate. Glasses were knocked over, water and wine left unfilled. The wine waiter appeared to know but actually didn’t really understand his list or wine to bring. The kitchen seemed to be trying to break the speed record for service. We ordered, a rather peculiar amusement bouche of a tapioca biscuit and cauliflower puree arrived - was more like dairy lea on a Pringle. By the time we had put it on our mouth the starter was out 5 mins after ordering. The wine had not even been opened and arrived 5 mins later. If we had not asked them to slow down we would have been out in 50 minutes. The main courses looked beautiful, had lovely looking sauces that had no specific taste. A pear soufflé was basically egg white. This place could and should be great. It is sadly a shadow of the glasshouse, the previous place here. So it’s a Simulacrum - a place that looks and feels like something it actually isn’t - a high class restaurant sadly ***update *** saw reply from owner but honestly I would not spend my money going back here - it would not be worth the risk - sorry

Our first visit since the demise of The Glasshouse. The food is amazing. Unlike some top-end restaurants they don't go for ludicrous "tasting menus" to show off the brilliance of the chef's invention capability. What they produce is flavour -- unusual and subtle flavour combinations that really work. I had the ham hock terrine, truffle and celeriac remoulade to start. Followed by Iberico pork presa with various yummy accompaniments and a pork jus. (I thought I would pig-out that night). Finished off with a delightful apple crumble souffle. All delicious. Intriguingly each of us at the table said, after the first taste of each dish: "that's interesting". Not cheap. The dinner for four worked out at around £150 a head. But delightful.

We had a great Saturday lunch at the Hawthorn. It’s a cracking location. The staff made us feel very welcome and the food was immaculate. Would highly recommend

A wonderful experience at a wonderful restaurant. The staff that attended to us were excellent. Warm, friendly and attentive, without being intrusive. The Sommelier was wonderfully knowledgeable, without being patrionising. He didn't attempt to sell our table the most expensive bottles of wine available but rather listened to our needs and matched them perfectly with our likes and the food we had ordered Now the food? Just stunning! Honestly! I had the pork terrine, followed by the lamb main and followed by the Souffle. ALL outstanding. A total triumph!

If you visited the glasshouse before it closed on these premises, hawthorn is similar standard Michelin star level restaurant. Doesn’t have one yet. Should get one soon

The Hawthorn is in the same location as the Glasshouse which closed its doors a year ago. It is joint owned by the ex-manager of La Trompette so it has excellent pedigree as Patra Panos has always been the standard bearer for hospitality and good...

Kew’s dining jewel returns. A long-time fan of The Glasshouse, I as I’m sure many, were devastated to hear of its closing at the end of last summer. Hawthorn, in the same location and fairly similar look and feel, has risen out of its ashes with enough similarity to evoke The Glasshouse but clear differences that distinguish it as its own restaurant on its own path. A Saturday lunch, 3 courses, will set you back £50. Accompanied by an amuse bouche and a delightful passionfruit truffle and pine meringue to end your meal, it’s remarkable value. Each course is cooked beautifully and perfectly portioned, and arrives just at the right time. My favourite aspect of The Glasshouse was the ambience; fine food in the most relaxed environment, and Hawthorn keeps this up in spades. You are treated with such care and attention by the most welcoming of staff, who look after you without being intrusive, and will chat to you following your meal about anything and everything, including feedback. Hawthorn is superb. There’s no doubt it’s the best dining experience in Kew. There’s also no doubt it will be on path to Michelin success, so get yourself a reservation whilst it’s still fairly reasonable to get one, and support the talented team behind Hawthorn who so very much deserve it.

This is a little restaurant in Richmond. The food is very good. Lots of attention to detail and good quality. Service is good. However, for the price level, I would expect them to be more attentive. The atmosphere is ok. It feels a little too sterile.

I have visited twice and both experiences were superb. It has to be on your list of restaurant experiences in London. Situated in Kew village, a very good location a few metres from the Train station. I can predict that in a year this will be a Michelin star restaurant

The successor to The Glasshouse has a tough act to follow but has triumphed. Delicate flavours like Artichoke or cauliflower find bedfellows with sake or cuttlefish. I had the cuttlefish and nduja ragout followed by Iberian pork with a wonderful variation on affogato with a...

We met for lunch and had a lovely, relaxed meal, with friendly, informative service - relaxed and unfussy, but beautifully presented and delicious food. Everything was delicious, but the trout, and the rhubarb souffle were particular highlights. And very reasonably priced for the quality of...

This successor to the much loved Glasshouse lives up to its predecessor's high standards of food and service. The room is elegant and there is, mercifully, no music so everyone can chat and hear each other properly. The seasonal menu is inventive and delicious and...

One of the best meals we've had in months - some clever mixes of high quality ingredients, prepared and presented at the highest level, full of flavours. A big shout out for the Monkfish Tandoori dish! All with attentive and professional service from all that interacted with us.

Absolutely lovely meal. Attentive yet unpretentious service. Striving cooking and an absolute gem of a wine list (and helpful sommelier). Worth a trip out to Kew but selfishly I hope most don’t take it!

This is a fantastic new addition. Booking was straightforward and the reception on arrival was warm and smooth. Service was first class throughout- from reception to table and sommelier. Food was wonderful from a menu that was wide ranging and clearly coped with vegetarian customers....

Half empty, lacking in atmosphere and warmth - lovely staff though. Food beautiful but far too fussy and a bit odd - I had anchovy tempura - 4 sad little anchovies with leaves and a tuna sauce followed by chicken - the food’s just far...

Enjoyed a fabulous lunch at Hawthorn today. The food was exceptionally good, every dish a major hit. We can't wait to go back. The service was warm and impeccable too. Thank you Hawthorn!

The Glasshouse was our favourite local restaurant, so we were delighted to see that Hawthorn has changed very little on the face of it. The food was fantastic (and large portions!) and the wine was great, the sommelier gave us some brilliant recommendations. The service was very relaxed and friendly and we had a really great night and will be back soon.

We chose to have lunch here one Sunday for convenience. While the place is family-friendly, unfortunately, three out of four of us who ate the chicken ended up with upset stomachs for the rest of the day. The only person who didn’t eat the chicken was completely fine. When we raised the issue with the staff, they denied any responsibility obviously. We will never trust the food here again. Be cautious!

They are keep on cancelling my order on Just Eat with always some random excuse. If you are busy why even bother to be online on JE? I wasted so much time only to later calling the restaurant to find out they wont be accepti g the order. If you are reading this and planing to order through Just Eats. Dont waste your time, they wont accept your order and it takes just eat over 30 mins befre you get a notification that your orders been cancelled. Never had this issues 3 or 4 years ago and I am assumi g it must be a new management now who simply dont care.

The service was awful from some very uninterested staff. The food was bland and horrendously overpriced for what we got. Cross that we had to pay for such disappointing food. Would never go again.
