First and foremost the scenery was exquisite, this little gem under the bridge is the perfect brunch spot. The menu was simple but the chef knows how to combine their foods. Halloumi, Avocado, Bacon, Chilli Jam and Spinach. Phenomenal! The staff were so polite and were genuinely interested in our travel plans and holiday experience. Would 100% recommend if you're looking for a picturesque spot with gorgeous view parallel to it's gorgeous food.

Great experience and burgers here. I had dietary requirements of no dairy and no egg but the burger was tailored to exactly to what I could have and didn't feel like I was missing out or compromising on flavour. Really nice and helpful staff. Sides were also top notch

Unjustifiably expensive for a below par breakfast that took 55mins to come at a not particularly busy time. The service was quite rude, cold and unfriendly and the coffee was very bad. The decor is nice and it’s a nice place to sit but it’s not great.

The Old Black Lion was the perfect intimate dinner venue on a cold winter saturday evening. All three courses me and my partner had was scrumptious, the white bait starter was particularly note-worthy, large for whitebait, juicy and crispy. The mains was also very good value (you can't go wrong with the steak). The atmosphere was idyllic, is as cosy an old pub can get. If you want an escape from the centre of Hay that's still only walking distance, this is where you should have your dinner.

Popped in for a well needed coffee whilst viewing a house in a neighbouring town. What a smashing place, friendly, helpful staff. Yummy milkshakes, food and coffee! Even made me a delicious cortado (which many places don’t seem to get right) will defo be back!

Just returned from a short stay at Hay on Wye and visited this cafe every day! Really friendly staff, fantastic coffee and we also treated ourselves to a slice of carrot cake on our last day which was divine! We looked at the menu and there were lots of lovely things that we could have had if we were staying for breakfast or lunch. A good excuse to go back!

Disappointing, overall. The food was very overpriced and not as described - we ordered the carrot and coriander soup, which was definitely actually tomato - and the table was dirty. The very young staff all seemed to be doing work experience, and none of them wanted to be there. It took three attempts to get our table cleaned, and the girl taking our food order was completely disinterested. This was a real shame, and to me it suggests a management problem - you can't just hire teenagers and expect them to do the full workload of wait staff. The ambience was also really weird. It felt like a school canteen. The decor is very unappealing, feeling more like a leisure centre than a cafe. This place is definitely coasting on being the nearest cafe to the carpark, and one of the few cafes to be open after 4pm. I honestly recommend just bringing a flask of tea in your car and a packet of sandwiches.
