If you’re travelling up the A1 north towards York and are looking for somewhere to stop off for lunch, that’s not a service area, then you’ll do very well to beat the Blue Bell Inn. It’s only a few minutes off the A1 and well worth the short detour. One word of warning, it can get busy so it’s well booking in advance.

Vegan options were slim on the menu, just One starter & dessert with two mains. Bit on the pricey side for a country pub when Quality was like a pub chain. I had the shicken Gyros of which the shicken was bloomin lovely. They seemed to pack in all the condiments but in the barest amounts and with nothing to moisten it, couscous is dry but without the ranch dressing it was definitely lacking. No hummus or pickled red cabbage was a massive fail. No vegan cream or ice cream for the biscoff cheesecake was also a massive fail when you think how easy the ice cream would be to store, no excuses. Staff were lovely. Place was busy with lovely atmosphere

The service from the staff in the Jacobean pub is amazing the man from Newcastle ( I think sorry if not) is so so so good at his job so professional and helpful the food is really good only thing I can criticise is the chips there so so chewy like they been microwaved should be crispy but that would not stop me from going back just will not order chips !

Lovely helpful staff good food ,snacks, cakes. Very dog friendly. Would recommend anyone to pay a visit, plenty of parking.

Called "off the cuff"as it was raining & at least 5 tables undercover were free plus a large table with the umbrella down vacated. Greeted at the door by a young female asking if we had a booking.On answering no just told quite abruptly were fully booked !!! Did not attempt to ask more senior staff to clarify if we could have had a drink. Not very impressedTo quote Freddie Mercury..is this the world we have created !!!
