Visited today, the bar staff are lovely, polite and hard working. We had a sharing platter which looked lovely, however some of the chicken wings were hot, some half warm half cold and one was completely cold. The nachos were all stuck together with rock hard cheese. It looked like they had been sat inder the grill for the hour that we waited for our food to come. The lovely young lady replaced the wings for us and put them in a tub to bring them home. Won’t be visiting again. Sorry to the bar staff but your cook lets you down and it’s not the first time the food hasn’t been upto scratch.

We booked here for dinner on our way up the A1. We had fish and chips, liver, bacon and chips, a side of onion rings and a child's fish fingers followed by honeycomb cheesecake and chocolate fudge cake. It was standard pub food - nothing special, but fairly cheap and convenient for where we were staying.

The barman Owen was very friendly & polite - thank you Owen.My wife ordered the Lasagne & I ordered the cottage pie - WOW!!, it was the best 2 pub meals we have had for a very long time. the food was cooked beautifully & plenty of it - certainly home cooked food & nothing like some of the pre packed meals one gets from some of the pub chains. The prices are excellent & we will be gong back in a couple of weeks for my Birthday. Also compliments to Diane the chef for the great job she did for us & possibly every other customer who eats there - well done!!

Been visiting this pub since 2019, a firm favourite with my family. Went today for lunch, ordered our food, and had to wait for a full hour. When it came, my gammon was as dry and tough like an old boot. I had ordered salad, but when the food came, the waitress said they were still awaiting a delivery of supplies, so why couldn't she tell me that when I ordered. My daughter's yorkshire pudding had green spots. and her chips had hair on the outside. My grandson who is 13 months old, also had a hair in his food. Upon leaving, the delivery driver turned up! Just been checking my bank statement, and the name is listed different as to before, so something has changed. Will not be returning, lost some good customers, and probably many more........

Awful meal. A family group with various dishes ordered. My rump steak was burnt on one side and uncooked on the other. Had thick gristle running through it so was impossible to cut let alone chew. Tasted stale. Chips were dry, over cooked and tasteless. Mixed grill had poor quality sausages, burger and a grey coloured steak - still not sure what it was. Tasteless. Other dishes were also disappointing. A number of the group were still feeling "off" the next day! Not pleasant.

Been coming here for many years, food was lovely but have found that quality and quantity has detiorated the last few years and no longer worth what you pay. There is no consistency, meal can be poor with blood spurting from liver & onions and steak, ribeye or sirloin ordered as medium rare to have blood oozing from it on the plate or too tough to eat. Occasionally we got a very nice meal. Some of the staff are miserable and the owner is arrogant and barely acknowledges his customers. Why did we continue to visit the Barnsley Oak you might ask? Certainly not for the food or the for being made to feel welcome, because it’s local and we could leave the car at home and have a few drinks.we’ve finally decided that our money and custom is more welcome elsewhere and are currently enjoying other establishments that serve good quality food and welcome your custom.

They were ready and waiting for us at the given time. The food was piping hot and good wholesome food. The staff were very kind and helpful, no wonder that this public house is popular with the locals. There is a good selection on the menu along with a specials board, and very reasonably priced. The only annoying thing was that the wind was blowing through a small hole in the roof of the conservatory and there was a constant whistling sound. The place is warm and inviting.

Staff very very friendly, nothing out of the way for them to please, nice cosy pub, ordered fish & chips for my wife (something easy to break up with a fork as she had had a cortisone injection in her hand that morning) guess what no fish oops!. Ordered hunters chicken (even though I had to cut the chicken up for her), she said it was one of the best she had tasted, well done. I ordered mixed grill, one of the best mixed grills I have had for the price - BUT - I asked for hot plates to keep the meal hot while being eaten to the end - no hot plates - got half way through & had to ask for it to be put in the microwave. All the food was cooked nicely - had to take a doggy bag home for some of the food. Just a suggestion Mark, the steak on the mixed grill, while very tender, could have been a little smaller but thicker, maybe 1/2 the size but twice as thick, very difficult to obtain a nice brown outer & slightly pink inside for a medium to well done steak. just looses out on the 5* for the little hickups. Would go back again if in the area or passing it again - recommend - YES!!

First and foremost, I must admit that this used to be a good pub for chit chat and eating. However, the quality has been declining, the food is barely edible, ordered a steak and it was thin and even the staff admitted the steak was frozen. So unless you like flavourless thin steak for quite a bit of money, you shouldnt get one here. Additionally, the staff is lovely and has had helped get money for local charities. Despite that, the other customers tend to be "ten bob millionaires" resulting in not a friendly atmosphere. P.s. Nice lighting in photo of the pub (as to be honest, usually looks somewhat gloomy)

After looking on here for a local pub serving decent food I opted for the Barnsley Oak. The service was quick both in terms of drinks and food, however the food didn't seem rushed but it was a Friday dinner time. The food was brilliant plenty of choice and all tasted home made with plenty of it. In fact I couldn't manage pudding lol. Deffo be back

Often visit the Barnsley Oak on my lunch break, the food is fresh and tasty, furthermore the prices are great. I like to sit in the conservatory area rather than the pub, and prefer the menu to the carvery. I try not to pick the same thing each time and have never been disappointed - the specials board is definitely worth a look. As the food is made to order you can easily order and ask for something not to be in it, like no mushrooms in your Chinese chicken curry.I only ever go for lunch, and it can get busy especially on a Friday. If you are short of time they let you pre-order and reserve you a table which is great when you only have 1 hour for lunch. Although I've never had to much of a problem with waiting for the food to be cooked, you have to remember its not microwaved food place so if they are busy you can sometime wait about 30 minutes for food. This to me just shows how popular the place is and that the food is freshly prepared.

Another fab meal at this friendly little pub, excellent value for money. I've eaten here a few times and never been disappointed. Booking a table is advisable as it's quite a busy little pub

At £3.99 for a main course - a burger, and £2.99 for a dessert, the Barnsley Oak is tough to beat on value. I was part of a group eating over lunch time. No problems with the orders which were submitted in advance, all coming out together as part of friendly service. Food is basic, but as I say, excellent value so no arguments.

Visited the Singing Chocker on a Friday night, In spite of being Busy Paula went to trouble of finding us a table that suited us. We ordered food and drink at bar and didn't have to wait too long before meals arrived. We were waited on by Kerry who got everything right ,made sure we had correct cutlery and sauces napkins etc. Food was good and Kerry called back to see if it was to our liking. The place is bright with good staff and Atmosphere. We visit quite often and have booked for Christmas day Thank you Paula and Kerry for good experience See you soon Mike Brown

A very dated place, but a great place if you like listening to the staff bitch about homeless people and how the police don’t do anything about them. “Go get a bloody job, and work like I’ve had to do all my life”. All whilst sitting in the customers dining area! Now don’t get me wrong, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but there is a time and place, and this wasn’t it. Go to jollies or the last bank over the road. Coffee was nice though.

Best caramel latte's in the area, food is very fresh and extremely tasty. My favourite thing about The Vie is the staff and the owner, they are excellent! 😍 Just returned home after the evening bistro, and everything was amazing! The food was delicious, the drinks were excellent but as always the staff were the best part of the experience. 💯 % 🔥 If you haven't been yet, you're missing out! 😁😊👍🍰☕

I am more than happy to sing the praises of this consumately professional Castleford venue. This place is old school and right up my street. I've only just become a regular but for me there is nowhere else when I'm in Castleford. The whole place is put together with love and it must have taken quite some time. It's a real homely 60's throwback and none the worse for that. No wifi and cash only and that is how it should be. Long may it continue. I never had a bad coffee/tea/grub there yet. The staff are perfectly ok. The staff are focused and professional so don't engage them in conversation when they are busy. Easy as that. This cafe has the air of an American diner about it and it's like being on route 66 (yes I have been there). I could easily imagine KC's with a lovely old Wurlitzer juke box in there and I promise when I win the lottery I will buy them one. They provide a good local service with CD/DVD sales for a local charity and deals for the bus crews in the station next door. 10/10 for community values. As the faceless corporates destroy more and more high streets places like KC's are gold dust and should be fully supported. One minor request please. A little more variety in the otherwise superb music. Maybe the Shadows? All the best then from Graham (The cockney in Aussie bush hat). Keep doing what you're doing ladies. Simply the best and happy birthday to schhh...you know who. Best Respects to all.
