We were staying at Rogerthorpe Manor so had lunch and evening meal here. Lunchtime we had lasagna and prawn and crayfish salad and it was really good and large helping. Tried the pork scratchings served at the bar too and they were amazing. Sat outside in the sunshine, absolutely perfect.Evening meal we had the salmon and peppers and the pork belly, all cooked to perfection we cleaned the plates and too full for dessert. Lovely friendly staff made our day!

Popped in today at lunch time and tried out the 2 course lunch menu. 1 x White Onion & Cheese Soup 1 x Fish Strips 1 x Gammon 1 x Jam Roly Poly All food came out hot and in a timely manor, there were quite a few customers in the Jacobean obviously enjoying the 2 courses for under £15 pp. Staff were attentive and working the room well. Personally think Rogerthorpe are missing a trick of upselling drinks to customers by not working the room and asking if customers are alright for drinks 😂 Have eaten here before and forgot to review but would definitely recommend eating here as never left hungry. On a personal note, I would consider putting paper under the gammon and egg as the plate was a little grease but that’s just my personal opinion. Maybe not put quite as much jam on top of the roly poly as over half of it wasn’t eaten.

Been today for a family meal, 6 adults and 2 children. This is the first time we've been here for food but my goodness it won't be the last! I had the gorgeous melt on your mouth belly pork, 2 others had the brisket and the rest had pizza and scampi, all of which were excellent and piping hot. Don't hesitate to eat here. See you again soon.

We have not eaten here for a few years, no particular reason why. We called in a few weeks ago for a drink and the welcome was lovely and noticed the Burger Night for 2 so booked it. Once again there was a lovely welcome and the waiter and bar lady were great. The burgers came and didn't disappoint. £30 for 2 burgers (big, juicy and tasty) sides of Dirty Fries (amazing!) onion rings (crispy) and burger sauce (Very nice). Great value for money. Will be back to try another themed evening.

First visit since December, very quiet, maybe a dozen guests in the two hours we were there. Odd choice of music. Staff were pleasant. Pint of coke was just short of £4 a pint. We went for the 2 course lunch menu which only had a couple of choices per course, but we thought for the price it would be ok. Disappointed with the gammon, couple more minutes would have helped also not char grilled, very basic, chips not too bad but the peas were rock hard, so were left. Lasagne again disappointing, very basic, lacked flavour. Jam roly poly had a odd taste, but the custard was lovely and took away the odd taste. The cheesecake, again disappointing it tasted as though it had been stored a while.

Lovely food, several gluten free options. They did actually bring my husband the wrong thing (he ordered the gammon Sunday roast but they gave him the turkey Sunday roast) but he enjoyed it a lot so we didn’t mention it. He spoke about how good the bacon that came with the turkey was for the whole next day :) The gluten free version was minus the stuffing and Yorkshire pudding (good ones can be kept in the freezer but no one ever seems to do this) but happy to see they had GF pigs in blankets available to substitute.

On the plus side, lovely, welcome from the staff. Well looked after. Comfortable chairs. I had the Xmas lunch; I’ve had better school dinners as a child. 3 very thin slices of a reformed piece of Turkey Roll. Roast potatoes that looked like they hadn’t been roasted; absolutely no crispiness whatsoever. I reckon the sprouts had been cooked for 30 minutes. The Yorkshire pudding was ok. The stuffing was tasteless and I didn’t get the advertised sausage meat. It’s a definite drive by venue.

I went with my son and husband for lunch. I had the light bite scampi with chips, garden peas. Very nice. My husband had the fish sandwich with chips, this was also good. My son chose the vegan burger. Now bearing in mind this was over £13 it was very poor. Served on a board. the burger looked lost. Called a moving mountains burger - it wouldnt move anything.!! No fried onions or gherkins on the burger. These were on the menu. I went to the counter to complain. Unfortunatly my son had eaten the burger when the waitress came out to see us. No compensation offere either a reduction in price or another. Disappointed. Felt like we were not believed. My son should not have eaten it, I appreciate this. He was getting treated for lunch so didn't want to moan.

Been a long time since we’ve been and was really looking forward to it. Walked in to a sign that said wait to be seated. We were seated and then told to go to bar to order any drinks or food. It was an early sitting but the table was not clean and there was little to no atmosphere. I ordered the Sunday lunch, husband ordered steak pie. Food came, all really well presented and looked lovely. Husbands was ok, but mine, everything was either tepid or cold. The beef was thin uniformed slices that were obviously precooked sliced to be reheated. The side portion of veg were the same. The addition mini ‘pan’ of gravy the same. Table waiting staff were thin on ground. Felt for them. Bar staff stood around chatting. It used to be a lovely warm welcoming place. May be we dropped in on a bad day, but Sunday lunch? I did feel for the serving staff l, low in numbers but they were doing their best. it was every behind that that let them down. Sad it wasn’t like it used to be.

Haven't been to the Jackobean for some time, we used to go very regularly. Fancied a roast dinner, so called in Sunday, the meet and greet was not good no smile or welcome. Waited a while for the dinner, the look was not appealing, over cooked. The beef dry and tasteless, potatoes I don't think had any salt, roasted potatoes well over done, veg just boiled in water.ALL Luke warm. We ate it because of hunger. 4 Waitress just hung around the bar area. The waiter on clearing the plates asked, did you enjoy your meal, sadly had to say No. he would inform the kitchen. Well not be doing a 40 min ride for that offering again. Very disappointed.

Service was very good and the food very tasty, most had the Sunday lunch option and a couple had the normal food - all of it was very nice and perfectly cooked! We haven’t been here for years and it made such a change and it had really come on in terms of food. The wine list could be a lot nicer but all in all I would recommend. Will certainly be back

Always get a pretty decent meal here especially as they serve food all day long. The menu changes at 4pm but usually visit before then. The staff are always friendly and good at their job. I had fish strips with chips and peas, too many chips for my liking but it was tasty. My husband had the slow roast belly pork with mash and stuffing. He couldn’t fault. Having said that he didn’t really look at the bill till we got home and he was astonished as the price of a pint of Amstel beer was £5.60 which as far as I am concerned is a total ripoff. If they want people to go for a repeat meal I would think they will have to put the price down. Don’t think we will be going again for a long time.

We initially booked for Mother’s Day 2020 but due to lockdown could not visit. We were given a gift voucher to the value of £106.We visited today and ordered food and soft drinks. The food came out muddled with another table’s order. This was not too much of a problem but it did mean slightly staggered eating. After delivering the food we had no check back from any staff to check if all ok or to offer any sauces. We had to walk to the bar to request horseradish and ketchup for the kids meal. The food itself was presented beautifully and was very tasty. No complaints for the food - compliments to the chef.We ordered 3 desserts and 1 coffee. The desserts took a long time to come - around 45 minutes. When they arrived there was no coffee and again no one came to check back on the food so we did not have the opportunity to highlight the missing item. The staff were very friendly but things appeared to be disorganised and long waits for food with no prior warning. We paid using the gift voucher for £106. The bill was £86. We were a little disappointed that there was no mention of the difference in value or even an offer of anything - could have offered a bottle of wine to takeaway or at least mentioned it. The voucher was taken without a comment!! The final, probably small criticism, is the fire door behind the bar that was left to loudly slam every time someone walked through. This was a every 10 minute occurrence for a good hour! Spoilt it a bit as once we noticed it, it became a bugbear.

We already searched and the carvery was served till 8, so we arrived just after 6:30pm to walk through the door to over hear someone being served a drink and asking about the carvery to hear that it wasn’t running anymore due to there being no meat left? So the service still had just under 2 hours to go with no meat? The bar tender who served the customer didn’t even seem apologetic and the customer even questioned her about the time too as she had rung previously to check on times of service. It’s disgraceful and there was no information given before hand , and no valid reasoning for the shocking service. Won’t be going again!

We had lunch and breakfast here, before and after a sleepover pamper party. All the food was delicious, lots of choice and a specials menus. The service at the bar was a little slow and not a big choice of drinks.

Stuck in traffic and hungry on the way home from a weekend away we decided to Google anything close and this came up, took a little detour and I'm so glad we did! We tried the award winning pie and was not disappointed, comes with veg and mash and we ordered some roast potatoes which were cooked perfect and extra gravy. Best pie I've had and well worth a visit.

Once again not enough staff at bar to order food or drinks. Long wait. This isn't the fist time but it will be the last. Food ok.. Price ok ish but ordering diabolical mostly only one serving behind bar at busy time

We were looking for a simple evening meal and this pub meant that need. The food was excellent and great value for money. If you are in the area it is worth popping in.

went here last night with a group of work colleagues. Excellent meal for everyone. Sweet potato and black bean chillli, excellent . Asked for side of extra veg - on menu in butter but requested no butter. Veg was plentiful and lovely mix. All meals hot and lovely, chicken curry, fish and chips, salmon and pie. Pie pastry just a little soggy.

first of all we have to thank the staff who were great, Jonathon Hudson and Ana.thank you, Now for the JACOBEAN PIE, the Famous pie. we have had it before and it's not the best by a long way, this one however was rubbish, it was a good size wedge but was red inside the lot of it, also had carrots and leeks in it, the steak was tender but you could not taste it and the suet pastry once microwaved is like no nails glue, i got a large lump of fat to boot as well, it looked like a Spanish stew with a lid v/poor. Mr. Hudson came up trumps with a free sweet and said the pie was tomato based, steak pie and steak gravy it's not hard, we will try again not sure what year

We recently celebrated my birthday at the Jacobean and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious and nicely presented. The restaurant was nicely decorated and reminded me of an old country lodge. Very cozy. The staff were nice too. Looking forward to looking at all the beautiful flowers outside too.

The wife has been nagging me to try this place for ages , she had been to a wedding a few weeks ago and said the place was stunning and the wedding breakfast great, but she never got to try the Jacobean.

Called for a meal on Sunday and wanted something different than the carvery. I have never had such a disappointing experience both my partner and I had meals that were possibly the worst things we have have in a long time. The ravioli was over cooked, starchy and tasted quite discussing the pizza only tasted of origano. I really wish we had stayed at home, so very disappointing, left our drinks and walked out it was that bad. What a total waste of money and time.

Our first time back here in around 2 years. We loved it back then. Oh dear how things change. On our arrival we waited to be seated, when someone finally came he pointed to a table and said we could sit there, then he disappeared. He didnt even take us to the table he had pointed out.

Visited this pub today been quiet a few times in the past and had beautiful meals . Today's meal was a big disappointed. Had the steak pie pastry was really dark looked like it was burnt .. carrots and parsnips well overcooked and mushy, looked like they had been cooked and warmed up a few times . Nobody came to ask if our meal was ok so as we left i complained to the barmaid one of them said the pastry was that colour as they pour gravy onto the pie before its cooked ... never known that before. I also mentioned to them about the veg saying I understand they probably use frozen veg and was told no they are fresh.. never seen fresh in my opinion Will certainly not rush to go back. As someone mentioned previously that the prices have increased certainly not worth the price .

Our experience wasn’t all bad, the staff (or in particular one member of staff was very helpful and friendly), the things that let the venue down for us were, being charged for coke but being served cheap cola, the carvery served up cheap bought Yorkshire pudding, terrible smash potato and mushy peas on a Sunday lunch (this should never happen. Put mushy peas with pies or fish and chips but never on a Sunday roast (not never), other than that it was okay

Visited the Singing Chocker on a Friday night, In spite of being Busy Paula went to trouble of finding us a table that suited us. We ordered food and drink at bar and didn't have to wait too long before meals arrived. We were waited on by Kerry who got everything right ,made sure we had correct cutlery and sauces napkins etc. Food was good and Kerry called back to see if it was to our liking. The place is bright with good staff and Atmosphere. We visit quite often and have booked for Christmas day Thank you Paula and Kerry for good experience See you soon Mike Brown

A very dated place, but a great place if you like listening to the staff bitch about homeless people and how the police don’t do anything about them. “Go get a bloody job, and work like I’ve had to do all my life”. All whilst sitting in the customers dining area! Now don’t get me wrong, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but there is a time and place, and this wasn’t it. Go to jollies or the last bank over the road. Coffee was nice though.

Best caramel latte's in the area, food is very fresh and extremely tasty. My favourite thing about The Vie is the staff and the owner, they are excellent! 😍 Just returned home after the evening bistro, and everything was amazing! The food was delicious, the drinks were excellent but as always the staff were the best part of the experience. 💯 % 🔥 If you haven't been yet, you're missing out! 😁😊👍🍰☕

I am more than happy to sing the praises of this consumately professional Castleford venue. This place is old school and right up my street. I've only just become a regular but for me there is nowhere else when I'm in Castleford. The whole place is put together with love and it must have taken quite some time. It's a real homely 60's throwback and none the worse for that. No wifi and cash only and that is how it should be. Long may it continue. I never had a bad coffee/tea/grub there yet. The staff are perfectly ok. The staff are focused and professional so don't engage them in conversation when they are busy. Easy as that. This cafe has the air of an American diner about it and it's like being on route 66 (yes I have been there). I could easily imagine KC's with a lovely old Wurlitzer juke box in there and I promise when I win the lottery I will buy them one. They provide a good local service with CD/DVD sales for a local charity and deals for the bus crews in the station next door. 10/10 for community values. As the faceless corporates destroy more and more high streets places like KC's are gold dust and should be fully supported. One minor request please. A little more variety in the otherwise superb music. Maybe the Shadows? All the best then from Graham (The cockney in Aussie bush hat). Keep doing what you're doing ladies. Simply the best and happy birthday to schhh...you know who. Best Respects to all.
