When I was born my family lived in North End, Portsmouth. As was often the case in those days, I was actually born in a Nursing Home in Southsea. Although we soon moved away to outer London (Raynes Park and Motspur Park) I eventually returned to the south. Gwen, my lady friend, lives in Lee on the Solent, so, over the last few months, I have been renewing my acquaintanceship with the whole, Portsmouth, Gosport, Fareham area. Yesterday, Gwen had top visit her bank which is in the high street, Gosport. Whilst in the bank we were talking to a couple of the staff and one recommended a nearby cafe. Kateās Vinyl Bar & Kitchen. It was literally a few steps away. As many will know, I love my coffee⦠and cake and am always ready to try somewhere new. The reason for the name of the cafe soon became apparent. The style and decor is a mix of 70ās and 80ās club, disco. There is a large selection of old vinyl records and an old style turntable on the end of the bar. Customers can select and play the records of their choice. The bar is long and made of wood. For a small, high street cafe, it carries an impressive range of draft beers. Including a couple of unusual lagers. For example Ashai Japanese lager and Grolsch. We seated ourselves on a small, low sofa near the window and ordered. A small latte for me and a mint chocolate for Gwen. To go with these delights Gwen ordered some sort of sponge cake slice whilst I went for one named after a famous brand of champagne! The cakes and the drinks were excellent⦠which is why I find myself back here today, awaiting my lady, who, is off doing a little shopping. Now, the one thing I have not mentioned is the staff. Many cafes and restaurants , can be made or broken by their staff. In this case the owners have made some great choices. The staff that we have met so far, have been excellent. On the ball, quick to take orders and very quick to serve these orders to your table. For those of us who need to know these things⦠the toilets are clean and easy to access. Today is a Friday at about 10:30 and just about every table is full. Proof enough of the quality of this little gem. š

Well I turned up half an hour before its advertised closing time to the evident annoyance of the staff. Tried ignoring me and when that didnt work reluctantly served me and forced me to listen to a rant about how they were just about to close. The finale to this performance was deliberately putting the cup of coffee as far away as possible on the counter. My tip if you want to close early shut the door and put up a closed sign. Absolute height of rudeness. The coffee was ok

I had to wait for over an hour and a half for an order I could have walked and picked up myself. delievery driver didn't speak English so when i tried asking why so long he said I come quick and walked away from me. the wraps are cold and not hot because of this. I'm really not happy with the order this time! disappointed! I would like to be compensated for the drivers rudeness and my food being cold!

Only reopened a few days before our visit so hoped all would be good and new. Decor is good, unfortunately breakfast was poor. Toast well over cooked and black, couldn't complain as they were near out of bread and we had to argue to get a bacon sandwich for our son as they had decided to only serve toast only with breakfasts. Bacon was overcooked, plate was cold as per usual meaning within seconds of plating up the beans are cold and it just sucks the warmth from the food. Can't be that hard to serve on a warmed plate. Can't say I'd return. Had a spoons breakfast in Eastleigh couple of weeks ago and it was 10 times hotter and 10 times better cooked.

I have had many small breakfasts in my time but this one took the biscuit. As you will see from the picture I had no egg due to dietary restrictions but I was not offered an extra item to replace it. Bacon was also hard and overcooked My food looked lost on the plate and honestly I did not get value for money on this purchase. Service was slow at the counter as they chatted amongst themselves. Overall and honestly donāt waste your money try Wetherspoons instead
