The Star in Gosport

Only reopened a few days before our visit so hoped all would be good and new. Decor is good, unfortunately breakfast was poor. Toast well over cooked and black, couldn't complain as they were near out of bread and we had to argue to get a bacon sandwich for our son as they had decided to only serve toast only with breakfasts. Bacon was overcooked, plate was cold as per usual meaning within seconds of plating up the beans are cold and it just sucks the warmth from the food. Can't be that hard to serve on a warmed plate. Can't say I'd return. Had a spoons breakfast in Eastleigh couple of weeks ago and it was 10 times hotter and 10 times better cooked.

We came here today, the first time after its refurbishment. It was done out beautifully. On ordering our drinks we were disappointed to see that the strawberry and lime cider was no longer on draught, might sound sad but as a very light drinker I looked forward to my one pint of this on a Sunday. Then we went to order the food, no chicken strips, no fish and chips which my wife wanted, she then chose curry, no jalfrezi , then she chose mixed grill, which apparently the star have now stopped doing. Other Wetherspoons still do this. In the end a spicy pizza was ordered with about 2 chillis on it. The separate bowl of chips were cold. The females behind the bar, four at this particular time, were more interested in chatting than serving a gentleman who was waiting a while to be noticed. Our plates were on the table about 20 minutes before being cleared by a young lad who was running around doing everything whilst said females were doing nothing much. The gents toilets were a much needed improvement but I noticed the cleaning schedule list had not been signed since 11.00 and I went in at 1.30. The toilet I went in was not clean. I was surprised for the number of staff and how quiet it was for a Sunday lunch time that these things weren’t carried out, ie toilets and the cleaning of the tables.

So sad this pub is closing for good on Sunday 28/4/24 When it's aways busy....

Worst breakfast I’ve ever had 2 mouthfuls of! Cold toast, 1 mushroom, dry bacon and ran out of pre-made poached eggs so had to have fried 🤢

Came here for an 8 year old birthday, very disappointed, my son gave them a cake for lola to be bought out after meal,bar staff did not listen to my order properly, my wife's meal was cold. A gripWe spend a lot of money here. You need to get

Good place for breakfast as you would expect

Such a shame, a nice pub with nice bar staff, security and also a nice history, however let down thoroughly by very poor, rude and unproffessioanl female management. A massive let down to the company and the hard working, friendly staff. I think the pub deserves a more focused leadership at times, and I'm sure there are good managers also, but unfortunately one poor and unprofessional manager can spoil the situation for everyone working.

Visited for a late breakfast. Initially all was OK ( apart from several untidy tables with plates left an age before being cleared away) until.we ordered our food. We then waited an age - only for 3 out of our 4 meals to arrive. The waiting staff said the 4th dish was on its way yet we then saw 3 tables being served breakfast and we were still waiting ! We were a family of 4 and the whole point is to eat together - sadly we didn't on this occasion so will not be returning.

Brilliant place to take the family for lunch or dinner or just a night out with lads staff are friendly and always happy and laughing amazing atmosphere

Have come here for 4 weeks straight for breakfast and really enjoy it very cheap and nice food better then mcdonalds breakfast. And love the unlimited tea and coffee nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Hopefully soon will be trying out lunch here

Very big and spacious. The service was great and very friendly staff. My friends and I had a lovely time there. We'll definitely come again.

It's the Wetherspoons you can't go wrong

I don't usually leave reviews but praise where praise is due. I was visiting with a few others while attending a celebrant event and got to say, we had a lovely lunch and top service from Serena the waitress (think that was her name!).

On first entering the star is nothing to write home about as its in line with spoons everywhere, clean and spacious. The staff were very polite and helpful and the food was delivered hot and fresh. The waitresses were exceptionally polite and jolly Downside.. the disabled toilet needs a freshen up. Upside... the ladies toilets were very clean and the chairs in the rest room were comfortable

A decent sized spoons on the Gosport high street. The usual setup with a bar down the left hand side and a variety of seating options throughout. There is a nice looking beer garden out the back via a little twisting alleyway. The staff were wonderful and I had a nice chat with a few of the locals. The Guinness was excellent

Usually like a Weatherspoons, however this place was dirty and passing the kitchen with the door open put me off ordering any food. Carpets strewn with rubbish that could have been picked up by staff.

Just about everything was perfect. Where else can 9 people have such a huge choice of breakfasts - complete with unlimited coffees, tea, and hot chocolate for less than £60? The service was exceptional and we have always been made welcome. We're there again for a meal tomorrow evening and I'm sure I'll be sampling their £1.79 pint as well as their £1.79 Bells whisky with a mixer! I certainly won't forget that most of their meals include a drink!!!

I wasn't in there for long enough but the few minutes I spent there was good...

Can't knock it, .... food good and fresh... drinks of good quality and excellently priced. Lot of other places now charging a massive amount more but actually don't offer a better service.

Normal spoons pub ...clean cheap no trouble good service

Where else in the UK can you get 2x delicious meals (Curry and rice with 2x poppadoms and Nan bread) and FIVE drinks for £29.52. Ordering through the app means that within minutes your drinks arrive followed soon after by your food. It's clean, cosy and suitable for everyone. Only bad thing about spoons is they are not dog friendly. I go to the Star in Gosport once a week and look forward to delicious food, cheap beer and a friendly atmosphere and have never been disappointed.

I had quite a snobbish and negative opinion of Wetherspoons pubs as someone thats lived outside the UK for eight years, however, this place surprised me a lot. It was still full of old drunks and beer flavoured burps but the food and coffee was great. I had a cheese burger, chips and unlimited machine coffee for about £6. I was really surprised by the taste and service by the lovely girls behind the bar. I’ll definitely return!

So I ordered an Archers and Lemonade as I usually do, I come in quite often. I’m in my work uniform. Nope can’t have it as I don’t have ID also…I’m also nearly 30 they don’t usually ask for ID. Staff don’t always follow policy.

Last orders called. I took the order from my company went to the bar to be refused service, citing last orders called. They just couldn't be bothered serving. I suppose I'd expect nothing less..

Not too packed. Service great. All day brunch was spot on. Dog's not allowed,even outside?!

Cold plates result in cold food, when you can actually order it in the 1st place! Sat there for 30mins this morning trying to order breakfast, app failed to work, I approached a member of staff who looked like a manager and asked if it was working he said it was my phone! Nothing wrong with my phones internet as I'm posting this sat in your pub !!! In summary missed breakfast and had to order brunch, staff couldn't seem less interested in helping!

Weatherspoons has always been one of my favourites for years and 100% sure they will be around for many years to come! Great menu deals for families etc Meal Drink deal really worth it !

Typical Spoons pub, it's like the same people are bussed in from other Spoons pubs. Why do smokers have to be so close to the entrance! Disappointed that dogs not allowed on the on street area which after all is a council controlled street. I was allowed to finish my drink so thank you manager for that.

Went on a tuesday night for a meal, it turned out this was Steak Night. It turned out to be Mistake Night. I ordered a Sirloin steak, rare, with all the options. No complaints about the chips, mushroom, peas, etc. but the sauce was cold, The steak had two extremely tough pieces of tissue running through it. These were so tough I couldn't cut through them with the steak knife. These should have been trimmed out before cooking. I was left trying to cut out the edible meat from between the two lines. I think I managed to eat about half the steak. The meal was cheap, but with proper butchery could have been good. As it was, I will not return and can not recommend as this was the worse steak I have ever had.

Weatherspoons was always generaly good value,but it's ruined by scrimping on sizes,got a avocado muffin,it was so small and the avocado was just put on so thinly and the muffin was so thin and small it looked ridiculous on the plate,it's certainly not worth over £4,even with a drink,I won't be buying again,rip off!

Good beer at a very reasonable price, and although I didn't have food, what i saw looked OK and also at good prices

We had lunch here last week. Food and service were very much as we have come to expect from Wetherspoons. Excellent choice of menu, although ordering on the app can sometimes be "clunky". Tasty food, good value and prompt service.

Food was all right. Lots of swearing from the customers so if you don't want to hear bad language don't go in. Ticks the other wetherspoons boxes. It's mostly clean and lavatories are good.

Jesus christ , they cannot pour a pint of guinness in this pub , no head on pint no peak either ffs , it's not hard if you drink guinnes you will know what I mean , perks of employing kids

It's a standard Wetherspoons offer - cheap, quick and variable quality but decent value A bit scruffy inside but not bad It is what it is, and is pitched at the low end of the market so, I've no complaints or surprises It was fine, nothing wrong with it, but it's not gourmet

Came in for breakfast and wanted to change my egg for scrambled and the waitress Fi was very rude and refused to change it. It only takes 2 minutes to make scrambled egg like what’s the hardship in that. Should never have spoken to me like I was piece of dirt I am very disappointed and will be avoiding this place in the future!

I got breakfast had to wait for 1 hour bye the time I got the food I was freezing cold the eggs were like rubber and they didn’t give us any bacon the pancakes were really small

Cheap and cheerful and you know what you are getting with Wetherspoons. But don't get the lemon chargrilled chicken. It's gross! 🤢

My friend & I visited for the first time & the manager & staff were very welcoming & also found the cost of drink to be much cheaper than on the Isle of Wight as was the case in Fareham,NorthEnd & Southsea. Can someone please explain why?

Excellent curry and chips and a bottomless coffee for less than a tenner! Free water, capable, busy staff, I'm a regular here. It's great value for money.

OK for a spoons nothing special

The manager of the place seems to attack and bully people constantly moaning and even trying to use security to intimidate patrons. In my local, this would never happen. I do not recommend coming here if the main manager is in as it seems she hates her job and it shows.

Have eaten there before but on this occasion just popped in for a pint.Like all Spoons pubs extremely good value for money.

The food was really not worth it. It tastes like it is microwaved. Unfortunately, we were very hungry when we went to Gosport so this seemed to be the only option.

I was born in Gosport and recently returned to care for my elderly relatives about y months ago I was accused by a bar staff member of swearing at her .... It was the other way round .... Turns out I was banned on the basis of a lie .... I agree with previous contributers the Gosport pub have staff who are rude, flippent and then act as judge and jury when it is they who are in the wrong ..... Luckily I don't have to put up with this as I'm not as financially strapped as many of the other customers appear to be .... There is something wrong with the attitude of staff at wetherspoon Gosport...... I would urge those visitors who don't have to drink there because of financial difficulties to give this sad establishment a wide berth ...... And the 2 times ive had breakfast there its been cold and you dont dare ask for another as you cant trust what might be served

This is by far to be the most deprived weatherspoons I have yet to discover. I mean gosport has a reputation, but my god what a dump. Staff mirror image the dump. You clearly see the hate in there jobs, rude, self centred with zero customer service skills, must be the poor pay and the pikey atmosphere. Let’s be honest the only people who will defend this place, are the local poverty that surrounds it. If you feel worthless, come to this place. You’ll skip home feeling, I’m not so bad after all 👍

Visited here on a number if occasions and only once had a disappointing meal, the management were right on it and resolved the issue. Friday nights can be rather loud...

Terrible size portion of scampi 4 pieces chips and mushy peas including alcoholic drink cost 9.01 it does say 4 whitby scampi on menu but still rubbish value. I love scampi but weatherspoons rip off drinks are still a good price though but your food portions crap.

Staff were rude and totally ignored customers at the bar apart from the ones they knew. Especially the staff member with pink hair..

Slightly run-down, but the food tastes nice and comes quick. Can't complain.

Slightly rougher end of the Spoons chain, the air conditioning was on the cold side and the ladies loo was closed for maintenance. I'm sure it's open again by now. It's Wetherspoon so the food and drink are excellent value allowing all to go out for a drink when they want.

Ok during the daytime, but avoid early evening at weekends if you don't want to be surrounded by kids getting drunk before going somewhere more expensive like Portsmouth night clubs. It's definitely a 'bargain basement' Wetherspoon but very good value for money if you just want refreshment. They do have a nice garden at the back and outside seating at the front.

Staff rushed off their feet, not enough of them! Took ages to clear the table. Not particularly clean. Food good value for money. Not dog friendly.
