Stayed for a night with friends after doing a couple of fells in the snow and wind. Wonderfuly friendly greeting upon arrival. Had a lovely pizza and nibbles lunch with a lovely pint by the fireplace. Lovely and cosy. Lovely and spacious rooms. Staff so friendly, we will definitely be back!!

Unfortunately the whole experience was very underwhelming.. food sub standard for the price.. caught staff talking about us after we had complained about our food.. chose our favourite wine £50 was not even very chilled.. seems the place is run by teenagers dropping and spilling things and not really bothered if we were satisfied or not.. steak no steak knife.. loos 🚻 dirty the list goes on.. good from far but far from good

Looks like a pub but you get pounced upon as soon as you open the door which was a bit startling. The guy said hi then just waited for us to say what we were doing - it was strange! Anyway my husband and myself were shown to a table and told it was, "strictly table service", then almost imediately the same guy moans to us about the waiter (giving his name to us,) it seems he had an issue with the waiter. The guy from the door then took our food order. The menu had a vegan section as well as vegan available labelled options. We both chose tomato soup with bread and specfically emphasized for it to be vegan (as shown to be available on the menu) and also at the same time asked for the Nachos to share, as we had spotted them in the vegan section. Whilst waiting for the food we overheard a customer arrive and tell the guy that they had a nut allergy his responce I quote was, "that should be o.k we don't usually have nuts in the kitchen." He didn't sound like he was taking it seriously enough and I would have walked out if I had an allergy. When our soup arrived it had dairy butter on the plate. The waiter was super apologetic. This made me question the cheese on the nachos and the waiter agreed that it didn't look like vegan cheese so he took it back and returned with a plate of nachos which had very different and non-melting vegan cheese- again he was very apologetic and sent apologies from the chef. However the guy from the door approached me whilst my husband was in the toilet to say that I had only asked for vegan soup not vegan nachos. I had been polite and accepting of the error but he wanted to make out that we were to blame. Who would emphasize the importance of one vegan option and then be o.k to accompany it with a non-vegan option. It was uo to him to check, if in doubt. We were then charged a pound more for the nachos at the rate that they appeared confusingly with the same name in the non-vegan section of the menu. We suspect the sour cream only appearing in the non-vegan section of the menu but on our food had dairy in it. We paid, we left, we won't be back. Our sympathy to all those who have to work with the front of house guy. I would run a mile if you have allergies, intolerances, vegan, vegetarian or just want to feel welcome.
