Wow, what a fabulous pub! My wife and I went to The Green Man this afternoon for Sunday lunch - our first visit here - and we were highly impressed. It's very hard not to sound ridiculous by praising everything, and, let's face it, very few pubs anywhere are ever quite as good as this one is - but I will happily make myself sound ridiculous by praising pretty much everything about it. The pub itself is a lovely old building, combining character and comfort. Candice, the landlady/owner is an extremely pleasant and hospitable hostess, and the young ladies who attended us at our table were equally efficient, friendly and polite. Our dog was loaned a 'proper' doggie bed so he didn't have to lie his ancient tummy directly on the cold stone floor (a lovely touch, we thought). Oh, and the food? Sensational, absolutely magnificent. We both said afterwards that we felt we had just enjoyed the finest pub or restaurant meal we have had in a very long time - it really was that good. For the record, I had the hake and then the pineapple upside down cake, whilst my wife had roast lamb and the sticky toffee pudding, but we strongly suspect that whatever we had selected would have been equally superb. I should say, for balance, that this was not a cheap meal by any means - in fact, for just the two of us, it was probably the most we have paid for Sunday lunch for a long while. But was it worth it? Definitely - you get what you pay for in life, and we paid top dollar for top quality. No problem with that. I would heartily recommend The Green Man to anyone who cares to listen.

We were here for the Christmas Afternoon Tea on 3/12. This is a pre Christmas ritual for us and yet again the whole experience was outstanding. We used to do Christmas Afternoon Tea at the Ritz in London but this is far better. Every year the menu improves and this year was no exception. Food and service was all great and we will do it again next Christmas. We will however also visit during the year as the menu is changed 5 times a year and it is always a great experience.

This place could be amazing but it is lacking atmosphere and the food is very ordinary. It needs a total overhaul. Everything feels dated and they need to look at other restaurants/brasseries in other area. It always seems half empty. Wouldn't go back again.

Popped in for a cup of tea and a snack. Too late for breakfast, which looked like it had some great options on the menu, so went with a filled sandwich. Beef and horseradish sauce was very good and came with fries. Well priced and the outside space was comfortable with a dog friendly policy. They also have Sunday Roasts available to those seeking more substantial meals on a Sunday, looked worthy of trying if you are hungry.

Visited mid week - per booked. Had tried to book a few nearby pubs but all were fully booked. Only one other couple eating here when we walked in and remained very very quiet in the week before Christmas. We had eaten here twice before this summer and have been occasional visitors over the years. What has been obvious on all occasions is the poor service. From walking through the door and no acknowledgment, slow drinks and food order, no mention of specials/pie of the day etc, lack of mid meal check and a large service charge already added for two people. Food was good, if not great. However,as we all know, great service can make the difference between a average experience and a good experience. Will be a while before we return.
