The best restaurants serving Mediterranean food in England

Fui al café Fig Tree con un amigo por primera vez hace un par de días y tuve una experiencia un poco extraña. Mi amigo había venido a Londres por un par de días y así que había investigado un par de cafés que se veían bien. Empecemos diciendo que mi amigo y yo somos comedores un poco exigentes, así que seamos realistas, ¡probablemente somos clientes un poco molestos! Por otra parte, soy solo un vegetariano al que no le gustan los hongos, y mi amigo no come queso de vaca, y estamos en el siglo XXI, así que no creo que seamos TAN difíciles... Tenía grandes esperanzas para la cafetería cuando entramos por primera vez, ya que se sentía muy acogedor y peculiar con un jardín lindo en la parte trasera, y parecía justo el tipo de lugar para nuestros gustos. El dueño inicialmente parecía cálido, aunque un poco excéntrico y nos preguntó si nos gustaría un café. Ya que no me gusta el café (oh Dios mío!) Le pregunté si podía ver la lista de bebidas, pero él no tenía una, y dijo que nos dejaría para relajarnos... Había una pizarra con un menú de comida justo en frente de nosotros, así que le echamos un vistazo. La comida sonaba bien, pero no había mucha descripción en ella, solo “lasaña”, “quiche”, etc. Siendo un vegetariano exigente, obviamente necesitaba un poco más de información, así que cuando el propietario regresó para tomar nuestro pedido, intenté preguntar qué había en la quiche. A continuación, anunció "no quiche". Luego intenté preguntar por la lasaña, diciendo que era vegetariana. Me dijo que era vegetariano, y comenzó a escribir la orden. Por tercera vez, intenté averiguar qué había en ella, y finalmente me dijo que era una lasaña de hongos. Le dije que desafortunadamente no me gustan los hongos. Mi amiga le preguntó entonces si podía tomar la ensalada de falafel, pero él le dijo que también se habían quedado sin la ensalada (¡ten en cuenta que era solo mediodía! ) Parecía estar perdiendo la paciencia con nosotros, y nos dijo que otras personas también necesitaban ver el menú. Me sentí un poco desconcertado por esto ya que no me había dado cuenta de que solo tenía un menú para todo el café (! ) Luego se llevó la pizarra y dijo que nos dejaría pensar en ello. Pero como todavía no teníamos más claro lo que había en la comida y lo que realmente le quedaba, esto realmente no ayudó. Cuando regresó por tercera vez, mi amigo intentó preguntar si tenía ensaladas sin queso de vaca. En este punto, parecía perder completamente la paciencia con nosotros, y nos dijo: “¡Creo que has venido al lugar equivocado! ¡No te gusta nada de la comida que tengo!” Repitió esto un par de veces, y se sentía como si nos estuviera echando! Le dije que todo lo que le pedimos no parecía tenerlo, y que simplemente estábamos tratando de averiguar qué tenía en el menú. Ya que no me gusta discutir con la gente mientras estoy tratando de almorzar, nos fuimos y fuimos a un café vegetariano en el camino, que era mucho más fácil. No tengo la costumbre de escribir malas críticas, y tal vez el propietario estaba teniendo un mal día, pero no me gustó que me despidieran y efectivamente me echaran solo por preguntar qué había en el menú. Una solución muy sencilla a todo el problema habría sido tener un menú para cada mesa con una descripción simple de los alimentos, y tachar los alimentos que se habían agotado. Así que diría que estoy siendo generoso con las dos estrellas, pero el café en sí era encantador y otras personas parecían estar pasándolo bien.

Are family is Greek and we know what good food tastes like and this was good. Although the restaurant is small it is a wonderful experience would recommend 10/10 🇬🇷👍

We had a fantastic evening here, the food was amazing and reasonably priced, the staff were friendly and keen to please, the venue is cosy yet roomy between tables making you feel relaxed and welcomed, this was our first visit but definitely not be our last, we look forward to returning. Beautiful flavours fresh ingredients and chef prepares as you like infront of you at record speed definitely recommend and first choice anytime I visit lockmeadow. Unfortunately at the moment they are closed Mondays but I guess everyone deserves a rest sometime

Excellent! I had a lovely time at the establishment. The staff were really warm and friendly. Definitely visiting here again.

Good variety of dishes on offer; the starter Caprese Salad was big enough for two to share. The staff are super nice and the food always good. I chose the Sunday roast which was lamb and cleared my plate! The sea bass, halibut and liver are all recommended too.

This place is excellent for entertainment and traditional Greek Food. John the owner always amazes us for the acts he books in this venue and then the traditional meze John serves up is unbelievable. This place is local to us and well supported on its special nights and also on its take away food evenings .

Met my mum, sister and baby niece (and dog) for brunch. The food was delicious and freshly cooked. Service was quick and friendly with nothing being too much trouble. Gluten free options available. Would there again. Thank you 😊

My partner and I dined here for lunch and we will absolutely be returning in the near future. The free garlic bread and drink with our lunch was a nice touch. Hands down the nicest pizza, so fresh! The young lady who waited on us was so pleasant and helpful. This place is a great find.

Me and my friend tried out the Wine tasting experience at Journey Guildford on the 5/3/25 and we had such a good time. We would love for more wine tasting experiences.

Happened upon Lulu’s when leaving the Osteopath over the road. The chalked sign of ‘Salt Beef’ dragged me in. I spent five minutes in the aisles, deciding which pickled gherkins and which peppers to buy - when I was treated to an informal education on which were the best Gherkins and why (brine salted - tastes like they do in the states :), traditionally they were salted to be transported) … which after the taste test challenge- I had to take them and change my mind from what I originally selected (vinegar pickled) ! Some hot peppers too, because supermarket Jalepenos don’t really kick ! These peppers will be going on everything. And I left with a hot salt beef bagel - which was superb. Promised to return this weekend with the family, as I know they’ll love it as much as I did.

Live jazz on Wednesday was great and food/ atmosphere was really good too (I had 4 tapas) Had a lovely time will come back again.

Llevamos años yendo a este restaurante con regularidad. Está dirigido por una pareja encantadora que han sido propietarios durante mucho tiempo. Es un verdadero pequeño ambiente de restaurante local con una calidad incuestionable. La comida es absolutamente deliciosa cada vez que vamos. Continuamos regresando regularmente. El verano es brillante ya que tienen una pequeña zona exterior. Los inviernos también son grandes, ya que el interior es acogedor. Si usted no ha probado este restaurante y está leyendo esta crítica para inspirarse - vale la pena un viaje para una noche agradable.

Wow ! Such an incredible experience from start to finish. Jules , Steve and their family are amazing at what they do and extremely accommodating. Food was incredible. What an exceptionally well thought out menu! And with locally sourced ingredients what more could you as for! A very cozy, well decorated, barn with two log fires blazing and blankets to keep you warm. Bring your own bottle is a fab idea because everyone was happy with their beverage choices. And if you forget to bring a cork screw don’t panic, they have you covered. It was the best birthday surprise for my Boyfriend. For £65 per head for a 3 course meal it will leave you wondering why they don’t charge more! It’s worth every penny! <3 Highly recommend to anyone wanting a great meal. We will 100% be back soon. (It is a family dinner table experience so if you don’t like sharing with strangers I would recommend booking for 4 of you so you can share together.)
