Forty5 is hidden away in the outskirts of Cheltenham but by far the best restaurant I have eaten in. The food was perfection, cooked by the very talented Gareth who came to talk us through his menu. The restaurant is in peaceful surroundings, and was lovely and quiet, for those of us who like to chat while we eat. Cocktails in the bar beforehand were also delightful. Highly recommended!

Everything was excellent quality, really tasty. Very polite and efficient service.

I'm going to echo previous reviews. The food was really very good, soup, Thai green curry and a chocolate raspberry marquis. All done to a high standard. The service was very good. Would definitely recommend.

We enjoyed a fabulous meal, starter and main course, cooked to perfection. An added bonus was brought out before our starter, delicious bread with very spicy oil, this was delicious. Afterwards we spoke to Gareth the chef and complimented him on his lovely meal.

Beautifully designed restaurant with fabulous food and fantastic service. Nothing we asked for was too much trouble. Quiet, classical background music created the perfect ambience. Would highly recommend for dinner away from the crowds and cooked professionally with the bonus of a reasonably priced menu. Within 5 minutes walk of the town centre set in the beautiful Clarence Square.

Me my Mum and Sister visted Cheltenham for a couple of nights. After reading all reviews and the menu for Forty5 The Square, we decided to book dinner for our first night stay. We started with cocktails in the library and then into the resturant. We all chose 3 different starters and mains, so we could sample each one. Each and every plate was outstanding and extremely tasty, but what made it even more special for us, was that Gareth the chef came out to introduce himself and chatted about the menu and his passion for food etc. We decided to book for breakfast on our last morning, before returning home. Food was cooked to order and was delicious. Gareth came out after our meal and we asked him for tips on how to confit belly pork. (this was a special on our first night) All in all if you are in Cheltenham and you want somewhere great to eat, varied menu and reasonably priced. Please try Forty5 The Square, you wont be disappointed.

The dinner at Forty5 The Square was excellent! The Sticky Toffee Pudding is the best I’ve found in Cheltenham, and would definitely recommend!

What an amazing time we had Tuesday evening. The food was so delicious. Gareth the chef was charming. The choices were very good and three of us managed three different starters and three different mains. Obviously, we tasted each others food. It was all so delicious.

We had 3 courses and cocktails - the hardest part was choosing which of the wonderful sounding items to choose. The venison mushroom pie was to die for. I swooned over the sticky toffee pudding. Good service - all of the staff was friendly and attentive. The chef was wonderful, constantly out making sure we liked the food and chatting with guests. We’ll be saving this restaurant for another visit with Chef Gareth.

Don't miss this amazing restaurant tucked into a side street in Cheltenham. Executive Chef Gareth has created an amazing menu that will satisfy someone looking for elevated traditional British fare (venison and mushroom pie) and for someone looking for more exotic flavors (ginger pork belly). The prices are a good value--we had the three-course meal and each course was a delight. Don't miss the boozy sticky toffee pudding for a twist on a classic.

This is great for anyone who wishes to go, families, a couple or friends. We went with friends and had a lovely meal. The food itself was outstanding, it's all locally bought and tasted fantastic. The chef, Gareth came out to talk to us. He was obviously into his food. He said that if anyone comes in with any allergies he will avoid anything detrimental to their health. The meal itself was fantastic, I was spoilt for choice but I managed in the end, didn't have any room for pudding though.

The food was of excellent quality and taste. All 9 of us agreed it was one of the nicest Christmas meals we have had dining out. Service was excellent too with happy smiling staff.

We had a Christmas meal here for six and had an excellent evening. The surrounding la were very well designed and the service couldn’t have been better. The best bit was the food! All six of us are quite particular and we all agreed the food was 10/10. The evening was then made better with the chef Gareth coming out to chat ! How lovely. Had an amazing meal tonight as part of our stay at Clarence Hotel. The head chef catered for my allergy and adapted my meal so it was gluten free. Food was absolutely stunning! Staff freindly and attentive. Definately highly recommend 👌

My husband and I stayed at the Clarence Court Hotel for our 12th wedding anniversary and we decided to dine in at Forty5 The Square and I can honestly say it was the highlight of the weekend. We weren't sure what to expect, especially as the menu was quite small, but every meal was fantastic. Every meal was home made, you could tell the chef wasn't your typical hotel chef, but one who has passion and puts everything he has into each dish. Even a simple dish such as risotto which can be very heavy, was so light and fresh. You could tell the ingredients were good quality and organic. We managed to speak to the chef, Gareth, at the end of the evening, and it was so interesting hearing how he plays around with different ingredients to then use in the meals in the restaurant. Gareth even gave some cheese which he brings over from France (apologies if that's incorrect) to my husband as my husband is a real foodie. I can easily see this restaurant becoming a Michelin star restaurant in the near future. The menu is also very reasonably priced considering the quality (and quantity) of food you are given.

The chef, Gareth, on learning that we and the 2 other couples were celebrating the 75th birthday of all 3 males of our group of 6, prepared a delicious chocolate cake. It was a pleasant and welcome surprise. This, following dishes of expertly cooked cod, duck and lamb, made for an evening to remember. It was the 2nd night of our stay and our meal the evening before was no less memorable and we were impressed by the culinary standard in both taste and presentation. Thank you Gareth.

The cuisine at Forty5 The Square makes it a great evening out. We enjoyed pan fried chilli and garlic prawns, then homemade pasta tagliatelle. All the desserts were fresh and light, such as mixed berry clafoutis, summer surprise pudding, white chocolate mousse. The key is the freshness of the ingredients and the wonderful combinations of taste. Highly recommended.

Stayed at the Clarence Hotel for the weekend and had dinner in Forty5 restaurant. The service in both the hotel and restaurant was amazing as staff couldn’t do enough to make our staff special. The food is Mitchell quality beautifully presented and tasted fantastic. The chef is truly talented and passionate about his craft and would pop out to check everything was perfect-thank you Gareth we will definitely come back x⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We were staying at the hotel so had booked a table in the restaurant for dinner. Original booking was for 7:30 however the chef came out to speak to us before we were seated to discuss my shellfish allergy. He explained that he'd been cooking prawns so politely requested we eat slightly later so he could do a full clean down of the kitchen ahead of preparing our meal as he wanted to ensure I was safe. We were very happy to wait in the bar and were provided with menus so we could make our choices. The chef came out to us again a couple of times to explain where he was up to with the existing diners. He also took our order which meant that our starter was ready soon after we sat down ensuring that we weren't sat in the dining room alone and still benefitted from the atmosphere and ambiance despite the other diners being seated before us. Starters were fantastic - goats cheese souffle was light and full of flavour, soup was thick, hot and really tasty, both were perfectly seasoned. Main courses were exceptional. My husband had the lamb and I had the duck. Both cooked perfectly. My duck dish included a homemade faggot which was unbelievable - truly amazing! The meal was so good that we also had a dessert which we rarely do, and this was also outstanding. The standard continued at breakfast. High quality ingredients, generous portions and the chef came out again to speak to us and wish us a safe onward journey. A truly wonderful experience, outstanding service and exceptional food. The chef is clearly very gifted and is extremely passionate about food and service. I cannot recommend highly enough.
