On this, my first visit, I was stunned by the internal beauty of the building. The external building works are cleverly detached from the interior. I was greeted, and subsequently looked after, by Tom who demonstrated customer service at its best. He was friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and helpful. His service was impeccable and this was matched by the three courses I selected for dinner. All were prepared, presented and served perfectly. Tom's wine knowledge was impressive. I am so glad that I decided to take a night off from the hotel where I was staying, just for a change. I am now checking my diary to book again. Thank you, Tom, for your excellence.

The venue was for a private function for a wake following the funeral of my stepmother in Cheltenham. Obviously quite an upsetting time with all the family present. We had travelled 7 hours, and had to bring our dog as it was school holiday season and we were unable to get dog care at short notice. The website said it was dog friendly in the bar, but not the restaurant. Our dog is well behaved. We felt reassured that it would be ok only to be told we had to leave the private function room as that was not dog friendly! All the family were happy for our dog to be present, it was very hot so we couldn't leave him outside in the car. No members of the public were going to be in the function room I really felt that the management were uncompromising given the circumstances and the situation was very upsetting for me and other family members. Buffet food and drinks were satisfactory.

Visited in early August 2024 - two of us dined, and then had drinks out on the terrace. The food far exceeded my expectations - both the scallops and the lamb were superb. They were very conscientious regarding my food allergies. The service was very good. One minor hiccup re: them swapping my vegetables for some other vegetables (allergies!) but this was resolved fairly quickly with the minimum of fuss. And... they have ample car parking including a good number of disabled parking spaces. Will definitely return!

This was only my second time here but won't be my last. I met with a friend for lunch as a convenient mid-way point. We were given a warm welcome, and it was obvious that someo0ne had actually READ my online request for a table by the window. The food was superb, (I hope you still have this scallops on the menu when I return), delicious and beautifully presented. Even when I inadvertently managed to smash my wine glass, it was cleared away with minimal fuss and the wine replaced, gratis. Thank you! Such a great experience that I thought that a gift card for your establishment for my daughter's birthday would make an ideal present. I cannot recommend you highly enough, and have already made plans for my friend and I to meet here in future, and suggested to another that we also need to come. Hubby is on standby to bring me back in the next couple of weeks, too. Thank you and your lovely staff for a very pleasant lunch.

Smart venue. Welcoming, attentive staff. Huge menu with plenty of choice. Good kitchen delivering well presented tasty dishes. Reasonable value at its price point. The menu is too big, with too many choices to be realistic. Makes it impossible for everything to be fresh or even frozen. Would prefer a menu half the size, which would still be lots of choice, with more focus on the most popular and effective dishes

We’ve been using The Langton for a while and it has become a firm favourite. The food is excellent; the service is first rate, with the staff being very efficient and so friendly at the same time. The decor is nice, comfortable seats in the bar area and the restaurant always looks good, very inviting. As I said, the food is excellent. I can confidently say that it is the best steak in Cheltenham. I have the fillet medium/rare and it is absolutely perfect every time. Starters are good and the desserts are too. It’s a lovely place, plenty of room even when it’s busy. It’s got a good drinks selection, and it’s not expensive. In all, 10/10 every time.

We were given a voucher for a meal here and had not been for a few years as had gone downhill. However we were very impressed with the service, one lady in particular went out of her way to help us. I cannot eat spicy or fried food since having my gall bladder out and usually have plain chicken or baked cod, no batter, with a salad but nothing on the menu like that, but she offered to do it when I explained. My husband had the cod and chips and he said it was excellent, only problem a large portion and couldn’t eat all the chips😢. He choose the ice cream and cookies dessert which looked yummy. I had the small dessert Brûlée and coffee . We then asked about taking home the trio of desserts as still money left on the coupon, for tea and they adapted that for us as difficult to do the brûlée to take home. Can’t thank them enough. Really enjoyed our meal and impressed with the service we received. Would recommend. Thank you for all your help.

We had a very nice meal here. I had a chicken liver parfait for my starter, which was delicious, and cod and chips for my main course, also excellent. The batter on the cod was wonderfully light and crispy, and the chips were top quality. Mrs Maximus had the fillet steak, which she tells me was also excellent. The service was a bit ad hoc. The staff were perfectly friendly, but clearly there weren't enough of them and they were struggling a bit, and a couple of times we had to ask for things twice as it became apparent that they'd forgotten the first time round. It was quite rowdy and we found it difficult to hear each other speak. To be fair, that was on a Friday night, perhaps it's quieter if you go mid week. One plus point is that there is plenty of free parking if you're getting there by car.

We were recommended to look at the Langton for a small family and friends lunch to celebrate our wedding - and we weren't disappointed. We met with the staff to discuss what we were looking for and they couldn't of been more helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The venue itself is stylish and well laid out - there was an annex area off the restaurant which accommodated our party perfectly and provided a well laid out, private area. The menu choices were varied and excellent - our guests provided us with their selections and we provided the Langton with a pre-order 7 days before the lunch. There was a variety of selections but all the food was of very high quality, came out piping hot and at the same time. They were very helpful with the arrangements - setting up our tables with flowers and place settings. On the day, the staff were warm and welcoming - we received excellent, efficient and friendly service from all of them. The food itself was amazing and all our guests commented on the high standard and how much they enjoyed it. We would have no hesitation in recommending the Langton - 10 /10 for us!

The service was ok as things were pretty quiet when we arrived. The menu is poor if you're a veggie, but we made do. The carrot and coriander soup was actually very nice, but the mushroom starter could have used a few more, er mushrooms. As the mains menu was so poor my wife had a sandwich, which wasn't terribly nice. My celeriac was ok if rather lacklustre. All in all a very disappointing visit as the food on offer is of the same standard as you can get reheated in any pub, so I doubt we'd bother going back.

I booked a table well ahead of time to celebrate my sister’s birthday. I stated that it was a birthday celebration and also asked to be seated in the most comfiest seats in the restaurant due to my sister’s mobility issues. On arrival there was no recognition of the celebration or the request for the comfiest seats (I knew from a previous visit they had different types of seating). Instead we were seated at a table with the least comfiest seats and had to ask for one to be brought out from the other part of the restaurant so my sister was too uncomfortable. A helpful staff member did this willingly. (Thank you 👏) Service was swift but the food was mediocre at best. The vegetarian options were limited and the fish served with my sister’s fish and chips was soggy inside - maybe due to the fish previously being frozen? Either way it wasn’t great. As a pescatarian, I was disappointed to see that the fish cakes had chorizo in them so that was off the menu for me. I went for the tempura prawn sandwich which was no more than average. I had chosen the Langton because we have been there for a celebration about 18 months ago and had really enjoyed it and the food had been fabulous at that time. Unfortunately we were let down this time particularly by the food and also a little by the lack of recognition of the celebration we had gone for and this led to the whole experience becoming a little flat. We decided not to stay for dessert, but instead to head home for some home-made birthday cake instead. I’m really disappointed that I didn’t organise my sister’s birthday at a different venue and I’m sad that her day wasn’t as special as It could have been. Unfortunately I’m afraid after our experience this time we definitely won’t be returning to the Langton again any time soon.

I really don't like to write less than great reviews but this time I feel I have to... We went to celebrate my husbands birthday but unfortunately it was a bit too disappointing... I'll start with the good things: the servers were nice and apologetic and the food taste wasn't amazing but wasn't bad... Now the bad bits: the worse of it was the waiting time... the service was excruciatingly slow... the servers were apologetic saying they had a big order, but I don't know where the order came from as the restaurant wasn't that full... as I said before the flavour wasn't too bad but the lamb was quite chewy which surprised me as it's one of their specialities and one of the most expensive dishes on the menu... the deserts took the most to come and the cookie from the kids menu and brownie were both burnt... at that point I didn't make a fuss as I just wanted to get out of there... Unfortunately it was a first and last for us...

I usually get very good service at this restaurant, however i visited on saturday the 9th March, The guy who hosted us through was lovely and got us our drinks, we then got told our server would be over but we were waiting 30 mins and no one came over, I asked a lady (new, broken english, brown - she was mainly just cleaning tables) if she could get our server over so we can order, However she took the initiative and took our order herself, she was ever so polite and very well mannered, she said it was her first day, she took our photos for me and my mum, asked if everything is ok with our meal and got the bill and did the payment for us. Only advice is to maybe ask for gratuity or explain how it works rather than just putting the card reader with the tip option in front of your face especially considering i didn’t actually have a proper server and have had to ask for everything. However i left cash tip which i hope she kept for herself as she was very lovely. Couldn’t fault the food at all.

We had the most fabulous cocktails, and chose to have the "wine and dine" menu, which was exceptionally good value. The food was very good, as were the wines; starters and main courses were absolutely delicious, although the pavlova that some of us had for dessert was reminiscent of an over-hard shop-bought meringue! The service was great too - with one lovely (blonde) lady gifting a bunch of daffodils to our 3 year old "birthday girl" for International Women's Day as a particularly nice gesture. We all had a fabulous time and will definitely be back, and recommending to others. Thank you, all at the Langton, for giving us a splendid evening.

+ Great atmosphere, location, kind staff, good roast. - The celeriac was really bad. I was offered a replacement, which was at least hot. As it was a special occasion for us (my daughter's 18th), I didn't want to complain again, but the recipe is just poor. A roasted celeriac steak should be at least roasted, right? It was half raw, and even after only eating half of it, it gave me awful stomach ache all evening. A celeriac needs to go in the oven for at least 2-2.5 hours! Please have a look at Ottolenghi's recipe - not hard to make, but more adventurous, creative and actually delicious. https://thehappyfoodie.co.uk/recipes/yotam-ottolenghis-celeriac-steaks-with-cafe-de-paris-sauce/#:~:text=Mix%20the%20oil%20and%203,and%20oozes%20a%20celeriac%20caramel. Also, the chateaubriand was quite bitter, I believe due to the grill marks, it would be worth searing in a pan to seal the flavour before putting on the grill, but it was still a wonderful 5 star experience for sure. The wonderful Lithuanian waitress (I don’t know her name) was so attentive and kind, and took lots of photos of us so we were very grateful and the boy who brought us our moet was great too!

Unsure of the establishment dress code so dressed up but didn't feel overly out of place but the vibe although opulent was very relaxed which was amazing. Waiting staff were on point so professional and quick to respond when needed. Food was phenomenal

We've been coming here for the last 8 years when visiting my mother in Cheltenham. Today the service was absolutely awful... rude and argumentative. The food was just about acceptable but the appalling service ruined the meal. We certainly won't be rushing back here.

What a gem! This is a really lovely place to eat. The staff were very friendly and the food was absolutely delicious. We went there to celebrate our wedding anniversary and couldn’t have chosen anywhere better. A complimentary glass of Prosecco made the evening special. Fantastic Place to eat, highly recommend it 😊😊

Great food but service was average and they push you to have water £4.50 when I wanted tap water. House wine 🍇 over £10 a glass and the stinger is when you finally come to pay you are presented with either a 8%, 10% or 12% tip option and you would have felt churlish to refuse. We had buy one get one free birthday offer. With 2 and a half largers, 2 glasses of house red a bottle of still water and a starter, main and pudding. With the bogwf knocking £46 off the bill it still came to £104! Waiting staff busy and dressed very casually, friendly enough but not that attendant. Positive side the food was great.

I'm sure this place used to be a hotel, as it has loads of unused rooms upstairs. The dining area is very big and it also has a bar area with lots of cosy sitting places. The food was excellent and I couldn't fault it. I did make the mistake of making my first visit on a Sunday evening. The entire place was pretty much full of families with very young kids. It was chaotic and smelled awfully of dirty nappies. My second visit was during the week and it was an entirely different experience. Although the place was busy the pungent smell had gone and it was far more serene and relaxed. So top tip is not avoid Sunday at all costs.

Have been visiting the Langton for many years and I’ve rarely been disappointed. Lovely, attentive staff and deeeeelicious food. Large seating area both formal and informal. As well as a spacious outdoor area. Dogs are welcome. Would recommend signing up on their website as they have great deals.

I took advantage of the 50% off mains which made dining out superb value. The restaurant is nicely decorated and tables well spaced. Staff helpful and friendly. My pie was delicious and I particularly liked the pastry. My friend had the battered fish which he said was excellent - plenty of flaky fish and just the right amount of batter.

Christmas Day Lunch 2023! I was determined to treat my daughter and myself to Christmas Day Lunch because she had a very traumatic experience January '23, and my oven decided to die last Christmas Day, so no turkey and trimmings for us! 14.40: We arrived at The Langton for our 14.45 sitting. We walked around to the reception area (quite a distance from the front entrance) There were two women, I recognised one, I met her the day in November when I paid a deposit, and never heard from her again until I contacted the pub (yes, it's a gastro pub) We were ignored, no acknowledgement, though they both saw us standing there. Poor start! We did not try to engage. A waitress wearing glasses, was very brusque, and said "I thought you were leaving, believe me,that's what we should have done, but I had no plan B. We clarified our status and she pointed us back to the 2 managers."Our system is down, said the blonde manager (she didn't introduce herself) " (white shirt) "go to the bar area, I will come and find you!" 14.50: there were at least 10 guests waiting at the bar, there was 1 barman and lots of dirty glasses. We were supposed to have a complimentary drink on arrival, but that didn't happen. The young man, Rory? appeared very calm and did a great job on his own, I told him that when we spoke with him later. His bearded colleague arrived 15mins later, throwing his weight around, very abrupt and rude! 15.15; I made my way back to the "managers", as no one had come to find us, to check progress on our table. "Our system is down, I'm having to input..(harassed,unprofessional manager wearing pretty dress) "Your table in the bar area was ready at 14.45". The right hand, didn't know etc.At this stage, I really wanted to grab my daughter and leave, but I'm a trained nurse, and a professional, so we followed her right around the corner from the bar area to a table for 2 in the corner. The table in front of us had 7 adults, including 3 older people and 1 child, the dad was doing his best to keep her occupied, because they were waiting for their meals.15:50; the appetiser arrived,(no comment)17:25; The main turkey meal was served with a small bowl of overcooked sprouts, and other veg crammed in, we had to share that. There was not enough staff throughout, our waitress was covering 4 tables. (yes, I'm sure that is "normal for her") unacceptable in my book. The fact that "your system failed, and the service was so bad, every guest should have been offered a complimentary drink that we were promised on booking. I have noted that the owner of The Langton/Langton team, only reply to positive reviews. I expect a reply to my review, or I will be speaking with the Gloucestershire Echo/Cheltenham News! My daughter and I have dined out on Christmas Day numerous times, having saved our hard earned money for the big day, and never had such a negative experience. My daughter had been on duty at King's College Hospital, London, until Christmas Eve, and was tired. I will never set foot in The Langton ever again, and I'm still apologising to my girl, because I made that disastrous decision to eat there at our favourite time of the year! Christmas 🎄 Update: 9 Jan '24 I have not been contacted by The Langton, so I have contacted the Gloucestershire Echo and told our story!

Where do I begin. Been eating here for years, usually impeccable service and fantastic food. Thought we’d treat ourselves as a family this year at Christmas so booked the extra special meal, £105 pound a head for myself and 7 members of my family, £840 including champagne or cocktails on arrival and a three course meal. Arrived at the venue for 3pm table was booked for 3.15, welcomed by know one, and witness to the staff arguing amongst themselves. Made our way over to the area where you usually wait to be seated, three senior members of staff scratching their heads behind a pair of computers. They said they would be with us momentarily, 15 minutes later, still not said anything to us, or offered us a drink. More guests turned up including a few more in our group, in which one of them asked what was going on. The lady mentioned their computer systems were down, and said we were sat behind the stairs, literally she pointed to the stairs didn’t even bother to take us to the seats. She said someone will be over to get us drinks shortly, half an hour went by, still no drinks, we had two members of our party go up and ask if someone could serve us, the second time the woman rolled her eyes at my mother. We then had someone come over and sort out our drinks, they took the full order and brought half the drinks. Another 15 minutes went by and we had to go up to ask again where the rest of our drinks were. They finally came. By the time we actually ate our food, it was 5.10pm. Absolutely ridiculous if you ask me, if your computer systems are down, what’s stopping you from serving people? The food thankfully was good, although the gravy was a little salty and my brother’s mother in law had to eat everything but the gravy. By the time it was time for dessert, I asked for a coffee and some others ordered desert, a further 25 minutes and I got up and decided to leave as I wasn’t waiting any longer, I walked past the bar and said, have you made the coffee yet, if so may I take it in a disposable cup, they hadn’t bothered or had forgot. I told them not to bother and left. Absolutely diabolical, I feel like I was robbed, nothing extra special about it at all. You’ve lost a loyal customer, not even an apology for the service. Ruined our Christmas for 840 pound.

The Langton is our local and we are becoming increasingly disappointed with the overall cleanliness of the bar area. Tables are rarely wiped and on our last visit our table was covered in glasses for an hour and a half. The staff, although pleasant, are very slow to clear tables, even when the bar is quiet.

Forty5 is hidden away in the outskirts of Cheltenham but by far the best restaurant I have eaten in. The food was perfection, cooked by the very talented Gareth who came to talk us through his menu. The restaurant is in peaceful surroundings, and was lovely and quiet, for those of us who like to chat while we eat. Cocktails in the bar beforehand were also delightful. Highly recommended!
