Dear all at Monkton Barn, Where do we start… WOW, AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL are just some of the words that spring to mind. We are just floating on cloud 9, our day was everything we could have ever dreamed of and you made it happen. Our budget was limited but you treated us like royalty, every member of your team has gone above and beyond for us, the communication and organisation was just incredible. The food… incredible, every single one of our guests complimented on the food, it was perfect. The venue looked absolutely spectacular and we honestly cannot thank you all enough for making our dreams come true. If you can't afford to go Italy, then save up and spend your money here. Good variety of pasta, halal aswell which is rare for pasta places. You don't even have to swim to Paris for a french taco cuz they do it here, (for the upper class folk, a french taco is basically an exquisite wrap). I would definitely recommend, maybe even to my dear friend Gino, if he ever wakes up that is...

What a wonderful restaurant. Git a table at the last minute for my husbands birthday evening. Fantastic staff, could not do enough for us even pitting a birthday candle in our dessert! Wish we lived closer to enjoy this marvellous find!

The food and the customer service was very lovely. I would recommend you book before going because we had to wait a while Very pricey but worth it.

Very popular Italian Style cafe in a quiet square.

Classic Italian restaurant in a lovely setting. A la carte or set menu you a good range of dishes to choose from. Set menu is good value. Mussel starter, lasagne, calves liver and fish special mains good. Minestrone soup unbalanced with too many carrots. Mushroom risotto needed more seasoning. Staff welcoming and attentive bit a little subdued. Good venue to catch up with friends as we're not rushed. Would dine again.

One of our favourite spots for ice cream! Though a little pricey, it’s worth it for an occasional treat. The flavours are rich and delicious, and each scoop is beautifully presented. A true delight for ice cream lovers—always a pleasure to visit!

rarely write reviews — in fact, I never do. But after this experience, I feel compelled to speak up, not out of spite, but from genuine disappointment and sadness. We chose this restaurant to celebrate my son’s 25th birthday with a family lunch — a special milestone, surrounded by love, conversation, and good food. But from the moment we walked through the door, we were made to feel like a burden rather than welcome guests. The waiter who greeted us looked visibly unhappy to be there, and his demeanour set a cold, uncomfortable tone for the entire experience. We had one extra guest in our party and asked, very politely, if the table could be extended so we could all sit together. We were shocked when the response was a flat refusal, and the suggestion was that one of us sit behind the rest of the group on a stool. Despite the restaurant being over 80% empty — and remaining that way throughout our visit — we were denied a simple, reasonable request on what should have been a joyful afternoon. The most disappointing part was that it had already been noted in the booking that this lunch was to celebrate my son’s birthday — but nothing was acknowledged. We didn’t even feel comfortable bringing it up on the day. The atmosphere made it difficult to suggest anything, and that’s just not how it should ever feel when dining out — especially for a special occasion. The food was average at best. The pasta, which was described as “fresh,” clearly was not. For a bill totalling over £450, we expected more — not just in terms of quality, but in hospitality, warmth, and care. We didn’t even take a group photo as it was so awkward . We just wanted to leave as soon as the food was finished. And that, to me, says it all. For me — and it always has been — when people choose your restaurant to celebrate something important, it is your duty to honour that. To provide them with warmth, service, and a memorable experience. Sadly, this place failed on every level. It didn’t just fall short as a restaurant — it failed at being a host. We walked in with excitement and left feeling disappointed and deflated. I would never return, and I say that with genuine regret, because I truly wanted this to be a lovely occasion. If you’re considering this restaurant for a special lunch — please think twice. I only wish I had read a review like this before we booked.

Although the service can be hit and miss, I like the location. I usually end up ordering at the till because the service isn't great. This afternoon I had a meal and I wanted some ice cream but was told that they were closing early and so I couldn't place my order! Kind of weird way of doing business in the current climate, but hey it's okay, I will spend my money elsewhere!
