rarely write reviews — in fact, I never do. But after this experience, I feel compelled to speak up, not out of spite, but from genuine disappointment and sadness. We chose this restaurant to celebrate my son’s 25th birthday with a family lunch — a special milestone, surrounded by love, conversation, and good food. But from the moment we walked through the door, we were made to feel like a burden rather than welcome guests. The waiter who greeted us looked visibly unhappy to be there, and his demeanour set a cold, uncomfortable tone for the entire experience. We had one extra guest in our party and asked, very politely, if the table could be extended so we could all sit together. We were shocked when the response was a flat refusal, and the suggestion was that one of us sit behind the rest of the group on a stool. Despite the restaurant being over 80% empty — and remaining that way throughout our visit — we were denied a simple, reasonable request on what should have been a joyful afternoon. The most disappointing part was that it had already been noted in the booking that this lunch was to celebrate my son’s birthday — but nothing was acknowledged. We didn’t even feel comfortable bringing it up on the day. The atmosphere made it difficult to suggest anything, and that’s just not how it should ever feel when dining out — especially for a special occasion. The food was average at best. The pasta, which was described as “fresh,” clearly was not. For a bill totalling over £450, we expected more — not just in terms of quality, but in hospitality, warmth, and care. We didn’t even take a group photo as it was so awkward . We just wanted to leave as soon as the food was finished. And that, to me, says it all. For me — and it always has been — when people choose your restaurant to celebrate something important, it is your duty to honour that. To provide them with warmth, service, and a memorable experience. Sadly, this place failed on every level. It didn’t just fall short as a restaurant — it failed at being a host. We walked in with excitement and left feeling disappointed and deflated. I would never return, and I say that with genuine regret, because I truly wanted this to be a lovely occasion. If you’re considering this restaurant for a special lunch — please think twice. I only wish I had read a review like this before we booked.

Pizzas were so salty! Overwhelmingly so to the point of not being able to taste anything else. We ordered two separate pizzas, with completely different toppings, and both had the same issue. Both of us really struggled to eat it and ended up leaving most of it. Extremely expensive for the quality of food.

Good food. The waiter recommended a good wine. It’s very close to my house and have visited several times. Will go back again.

Really high quality ingredients. Friendly staff. Carbonara pizza is excellent. Really pleased to have this in Marlow. Price is high but you get what you pay for.

6 of us ate here on a Sunday evening. It was quiet which we expected but it was also cold and slightly smelly, even though we were a fair way away from the toilets. Being so quiet we expected great service but it was still a little underwhelming. Food was average at best, wine was fine, so overall quite an expensive night out for a mediocre experience. We probably won’t go back to be honest unless it’s for the DJ night on a Saturday for drinks and a light snack which we have heard is good.

Relatively busy evening, staff ok, food ok. Back room dining smelt of toilets… vile. It was so cold, I kept my coat on. Wine average. But £22 for an Angus Beef tartare starter? It did not coming with anything to eat it with nor had anything blended through it. Really poor value for money.

Bruttus takes you straight to Italy and not anywhere in Italy but to the nicest part. The people are highly professional and friendly and the food is ... the best pizza you can get in England. This is someone who lived in Italy for 15 years and i've tried every pizza between Oxford and London. This is THE best. Same goes for the Spritz (if Patrick makes it). Hidden gem - the tiramisu. As a quasi-Italian family, we used to go into London once a week to get pizza at the Rosso Pomodoro at 7 dials but since Bruttus opened ... we don't need to. Bruttus has the best pizza ever. I also recommend the cocktails and the dancing on Friday and Saturday night. It's a thing that is done in Milan where a restaurant will serve amazing food and then at around 22:00 transform to a dancing place. If your religion is connected to Italy, Italian food or general Successful Living then Bruttus is your paradise.

As mentioned in other reviews this restaurant has a nice vibe going on and could be a really great. Food - reasonable but limited choice, pricey starters and desserts. Pasta and Pizza choices were nice. Beverages - reasonable choice of alcoholic and non alcoholic. Service - very south European in other words slow! Waited 30 minutes for starter and about 45 minutes for the main course but that would be ok if you can relax and chat which is rather difficult as i mention below. Experience - too many covers for size of restaurant everything is a little squeezed, in one sense it adds to the vibe but taking a few tables out would make for a much more relaxed environment. DJ adds to the vibe but the sound levels are all wrong, don’t expect to be able to talk to each other! Someone needs to work out it’s a restaurant not a disco and it would make for a much better experience. Just turn it down and it would be so much better. This could be a great restaurant just lacks some of the basic thinking needed to make for a “I want to go back” experience.

I am 83 years old and half Italian and I have always closely observed the restaurant business as my grandfather was a major player before the war in establishing Italian restaurants in London. My wife and I ordered a simple starter of crabcakes which tasted like cardboard with little or no taste of the crab. I ordered a special house pasta as my main course and the pasta was not cooked and for the first time in my life I couldn’t even eat it so I just left it on the plate. I did not want to get into any disagreement or argument in the restaurant and as usual I vote with my feet. I will never go back there again as it was £80 wasted for a very unhappy evening.

The food was great but the service was dire. To be fair we hadn't booked but if you've tables available it shouldn't be a chore. We are 3 ladies in our 50's, easy going and happy if a waiter can't even muster up a smile let alone flirt to get a good tip I'm not going again

Pizza was good. Great atmosphere. Really good DJ on the record deck creating a good vibe. . Our group would have stayed longer but the alcoholic drinks were very expensive - so cheaper to go to the pub afterwards. Maybe a special deal on drinks after a meal would have encouraged us to stay longer to enjoy the music

We arrived just before 7pm and it almost empty. The staff were welcoming and got us a table at the back. There was a strong toilet smell but we didn’t say anything as it was a nice atmosphere with a DJ playing good music. We ordered and nearly an hour later when we asked where our food was as everyone around us seemed to be getting theirs pretty quickly, we were told that ours was delayed because we ordered a starter…. We had ordered 1 bruschetta which takes minutes to put together. We eventually got our two pizzas at 8.30, an hour and a half after arriving. The pizzas were good as was the very simple bruschetta but by then the place was heaving at the bar and we were pretty much forgotten at the back. We got our bill but had to take it to the till to pay as no one came to get our payment. No one apologised for the huge delay but they were happy to add service to the bill, we paid because we just wanted to get out of there. Really not worth it.

Nice atmosphere, surprisingly use for 2nd January on a cold and wet night. The service was friendly but inattentive. The room was cold and I kept having to put my coat on as the air con was blasting cold air for some reason. Nice background music. We split a pizza which wasn’t great. Hadn’t bothered to remove the stalks off the capers. Napoli pizza with no black olives, and absolutely swimming in oil. It also had Lange dollops of cold burrata on top. We sent it back the first time to be reheated as it was lukewarm, came back slightly warmer. The salad and broccoli were both excellent. To be honest, for a place specialising in pizza they should be doing a lot better than this.

Although the service can be hit and miss, I like the location. I usually end up ordering at the till because the service isn't great. This afternoon I had a meal and I wanted some ice cream but was told that they were closing early and so I couldn't place my order! Kind of weird way of doing business in the current climate, but hey it's okay, I will spend my money elsewhere!

Classic Italian restaurant in a lovely setting. A la carte or set menu you a good range of dishes to choose from. Set menu is good value. Mussel starter, lasagne, calves liver and fish special mains good. Minestrone soup unbalanced with too many carrots. Mushroom risotto needed more seasoning. Staff welcoming and attentive bit a little subdued. Good venue to catch up with friends as we're not rushed. Would dine again.
