The best restaurants serving Italian food in Wealden South East

We live locally and love visiting Cuculo regularly to pick up cheeses, salamis and other Italian treats. Their wine selection is also carefully curated by one of the owners, James, who organises wine tastings (including via collection and zoom during lock-downs!) and even wine tours in Italy. On a Thursday and Friday evening you can pre-order a delicious pizza and enjoy a glass of great wine whilst waiting for it. I can highly recommend their Salare red wine! Do visit as it’s lovely and we’re very lucky to have this cracking deli and wine shop in Heathfield.

Excellent friendly and helpful service. Sandwiches were made to order and they will basically cook up anything you fancy and do it with a smile. I like the burger here. It’s a tasty burger. There’s a nice buzz in here at lunch times too. Excellent.

As a food truck it was a great idea. Offering different food options than the pub, the pizza team are so much fun and chatted to us while we waited for them to prepare our pizza right in front of us. And it was so full of flavours, a good dose of garlic in the sauce. Highly recommend as the are also operating at different venues in the area.

This is such a lovely hidden gem! The decor created such a nice atmosphere inside, the food was absolutely delicious, and the staff were all so friendly. It was a shame however that two parents allowed their children to shout, scream, and run around the restaurant for the entirety of our meal which left us all with headaches. I understand this is a difficult situation for restaurant staff but I think a polite word could be had with parents of misbehaving children to enforce appropriate behaviour or to leave, as it was entirely unfair on other patrons.

Great food, superb setting, friendly and knowledgeable staff, we can't wait to go back!

A Word of Caution I would like to share my experience with the owner of this business, Matt Shah. He falsely accused me of selling faulty equipment in a private transaction and has tried to defame my business despite clear evidence proving otherwise. His actions suggest he assumed I would be an easy target, perhaps due to my background, but he was mistaken. During this interaction, he admitted to tampering with a five-pin industrial plug on the equipment I sold, which is both unsafe and reckless. Furthermore, the pictures he shared with me showed a burnt-out socket and unsecured electrical cables, raising serious health and safety concerns for anyone working in his premises. If someone is willing to falsely defame another business owner, it raises concerns about how vulnerable customers or staff might be treated. This situation has left me considering whether the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) should be informed to ensure a safe environment for those working there. I encourage everyone to carefully consider the character of those running a business before supporting them. Integrity and professionalism are key in any profession, and it’s important to be aware of such behavior.

Lovely restaurant and staff doing a great job. This traditional Italian is always reliable - taken over by new people and just as before has reliable tasty Italian food and great service. Good pizzas, pasta and lots more Italian favourites. I had a tasty salmon in tomato sauce and tasty veg. The tiramisu is also unmissable ! Well done to all. X

The food was lovely. The atmosphere was very welcoming. The staff was kind and friendly. La Stella is a highly recommended visit. Thank you for such a lovely time.

Being a regular, I am somewhat biased but if there was something worth alerting you to, then I would. Tony and his staff are just continullay accomodating and friendly. Such a bonus for our town. They have always said 'if there is something not on the menu you woudl like, just ask'. I have done this before and again I did when visiting pre Christmas with some friends and family. Not only was it a busy time of the year for them but they also had a Christmas Menu, so the ask was pushing it. No problemo. One call to Rafaella and it was all done. Not only did we get our 'specia requestl' but the Christmas menu looked so good we went agin the following week just to taste that as well.

Finally a proper Italian restaurant in the area. As my wife is Italian we went for our 7 year anniversary and even she approved! Atmosphere was great and so was the food! Kind staff members too.

Visited for the ice cream -Latchetts gelato (saw the strange flavours on TV). £4.90 for a double tub with wafer. Very nice. Heaven farm itself is not much of a farm a few chickens wandering and small bird avery.

Nice food doner kebabs are great sizes meat could be cut thinner..overall good experience
