Romeo & Juliet in Wealden

Finally a proper Italian restaurant in the area. As my wife is Italian we went for our 7 year anniversary and even she approved! Atmosphere was great and so was the food! Kind staff members too.

My goodness what a fantastic experience! If you want REAL Italian food this is the place to go. 6 hour ragu for tagliatelle ? Unheard of! Afagato and chocolate pudding Which would not be out of place in any Italian restaurant IN ITALY. But then it is run by real Italians!! We live two hours away and were just visiting the town and discovered Romeo and Juliet. Now trying to work out excuses to come back to the area just so we can eat here! Warm, friendly, unrushed, we went here for our 40th Wedding Anniversary. Food was fantastic service was relaxed. Really recommend

A lovely Italian meal on a weekday evening. Very friendly helpful staff. Nice ambiance. Excellent bruschetta. Great fresh pasta. VG wines. Parked on street opposite free.

The restaurant was well laid out staff were very friendly. The only issue was the time we had to wait , I'm sure they must have been short staffed. Main disappointment was the The desert. The Tiramisu was bland and tasteless , I have had better from Waitrose cool cabinet. Price overall was reasonable. But would not go again .

Authentic Italian food with freshly prepared ingredients. If you love Italy and real Italian food then this is a must visit. It's just how I remember the food when I've been to Italy. The owners are incredibly friendly and welcoming. We all had an amazing meal for my birthday. Not our first visit and certainly not our last.

Absolutely always phenomenal. We live a short walk from Romeo and Juliet and they never fall short of perfection. I HIGHLY recommend the carbonara as it’s authentic and just like your nonna would make! The service is lovely, the atmosphere is fabulous and I will always take everyone that comes to visit us here as it’s a guaranteed winner!!

I’m normally a little hesitant selecting an Italian to eat out in as in my opinion most offer a pretty poor attempt at authentic Italian cooking. However, I can safely say that R&J’s bucks that trend big time. Indeed my pasta was the best I’ve ever tasted. It was heaven on a plate. My friends chicken and linguini were of equal quality. All washed down with a lovely bottle of vino. The simple starter of beautiful homemade bread was another big plus. To top it all, our wonderful hostess was so friendly and attentive. Sorry I didn’t get your name but I hope you have a safe trip home to Italy for a few days. In short we shall be back. Support this restaurant. It’s a gem.

Wow.. excellent pasta the spaghetti escalus was wonderful, service so friendly and genuine, as two weary publicans dropping in for a bite to eat on a Tuesday night you made our evening, we will be back personally I can’t wait for another Negroni and to try another delicious pasta dish, with clams this time.

We went tonight for my Mums 85th birthday with some of her friends. The food was everything that we wanted it to be. Very very tasty- obviously home made and beautifully cooked. The service was second to none. A gem in the heart of Hailsham. Won’t be long before we are here again. XXX

We are so lucky to have this wonderful restaurant in Hailsham. We used to eat at Prezzo before it closed down but Romeo and Juliet far exceeds them. The business is run by the owners, the husband is the chef and his wife is front of house. What a team, fantastic freshly cooked delicious food and friendly and attentive service. Already rebooked for Valentines- where better than Romeo and Juliet. Well done you should be very proud of yourselves.

great lunchtime for families, lovely welcome with nothing being a problem catering for lively toddler. we had excellent service. The food was very tasty and authentic, i would highly recommend, good value for money to.

We popped in for a light lunch and all had the Pizza! I can honestly say it was the best Pizza ever ( including Italy!!)😃 Crispy base, amazing tomato sauce. The owner Laura was delightful, all in all a wonderful Restaurant! We look forward to coming back

Try this place. Authentic, FRESHLY cooked. Recommend the fish stew. Staff are friendly, nothing too much troyble. All in all, we'll be back.

Our family has traveled to Italy and this gem of a place in Hailsham was true, Italian food. It was absolutely delicious and we enjoyed every bite. The service was wonderful, the portions were the perfect size, and it was wonderful. We highly recommend this to everyone! We were a group of 4 adults and 3 kids (ages 12, 10, and 8) and everyone cleared their plate.

Went for a friends and family celebration, 17 of us! Service was excellent, so friendly and accommodating. Food was delicious, you could tell it was all freshly prepared. Great evening all round. We will definitely be back 👍🏻

Excellence is the simple things, done savagely well. This is a gem of a restaurant tucked away on Hailsham High Street. We have travelled extensively in Italy, and have been trying to find something on a par locally. Last night we found it! I highly recomend the spaghetti with olive oil, chilli and parmasan. Simple, but stunning, as the best Itailian food should be. I had to order a foccacia to clean my plate!! I dont write reviews, this is only the second review I have ever written.

Lovely meal on a Sunday evening. All cooked from scratch. Great fresh bass and fish stew stuffed with tasty fish. Fantastic steak. Service a little slow, but that's because it was all freshly cooked. Friendly service.

Excellent Italian food , looked after by a lovely lady who seemed like the owner or manager. One of the best meals I've had out in ages, The pasta was lovely, unlike anything I've tried before. and it was very reasonably priced. Thankyou to all the team.

Fantastic service and lovely food. It was my first time but my mum's been here a few times and it didn't disappoint. Staff were excellent and friendly. Food was fresh and delicious. I will most definitely be returning!

Overview: Lovely staff, lovely atmosphere, slow service and not great veggie options. My partner and I went here for Valentines Day 2023. I had booked at table for 7:30pm using the online booking system. When we arrived, the restaurant was full and they had us down as booked for 8:30pm. Luckily I had my email confirmation. Staff were really good and tables to fit us in. They said the booking system isn’t great, so call rather than book online in future. Having been seated, we were ignored for 25 mins. They were very busy, but we didn’t even get to order drinks. Finally our drinks and food order was taken after 35 mins. Not a great start. We are both veggie. There isn’t a single veggie or vegan starter on the menu. There are 2 veggie pasta options - both are pasta/ linguini in a tomato sauce. Meat eaters get the choice of chicken or bacon etc, but just tomato sauce for veggies. With all the plant based meat alternatives these days, this seems a bit lacking in imagination and effort. We both got a pizza which was lovely. It had roast potatoes on it which sounded really weird, but they were small chunks and very tasty. Can’t fault the pizza at all. We then had to wait a long time to ask for and get the bill. With the slow service, we were there for 2.5 hours - which is a long time considering we had just 1 course. The atmosphere was really nice with live music and pleasant decor. The staff were very friendly. I suspect on a quieter night, the service would be better. I’d just ask the management to consider some better veggie/ vegan options.

Long wait for our main courses which were very small, as were our starters. Pizza wasn’t the best. If you want a reasonably priced bottle of wine you won’t find one here unfortunately - London prices in Hailsham. Won’t be returning.

We had a fantastic three course family dinner, with easily the best three pasta dishes we've had in East Sussex. Our starters were all delicious and a good size , and the pasta portions were generous but not too much. I tried each dish and they were all exceptional. Puddings were also delicious and a good size. One of our party has allergies, and we were confident that this was taken seriously, with steps taken to ensure there was no chance of allergens in their meal. The manager was friendly and chatty, and we felt welcome and valued. The decor is classy and comfortable, and parking was simple and close by. This was a really pleasant experience, and we will definitely be going back.
