We live in Stratford upon Avon, a tourist town, that according to official figures has 2.7 million visitors a year. As you would expect, with this many visitors the choice of places to eat is large and varied. Sadly, the one thing that the town now lacks is a good Indian restaurant. Yes, it has about 7 or 8 but none of them are great. For two decades it had a super one, but sadly we lost that due to a new road. Wellesbourne is about ten minutes drive from Stratford. A friend of ours who lives there recommended Kolshi to us, and it proved to be a very good recommendation indeed. We went on a Sunday evening and we were pleased. There is an excellent choice of very competitively priced starters and mains, with all sorts of rice and breads to accompany them. The staff were very welcoming and the service, like the food, was good. One thing to note is that the restaurant does not serve alcohol but they welcome you to bring your own so we took a few beers with us. Parking outside the restaurant is somewhat limited, but opposite is a Shell garage, and parking in the road alongside there was fine and it was a one-minute walk. Two key questions: Will we be going back? Definitely, we already have a date in our diary. Will we be recommending Kolshi to others? Yes, we already have.

Last week I didn’t get a delivery that I had paid for on-line and couldn’t get through to the restaurant. It was really frustrating but a few days Masala zone management from Earl’s Court contacted me and said they had a major glitch with the bookings system and telephone. Tonight they delivered me a free meal, delivered by a waitress in an Uber. How is that for fantastic service? It was very much appreciated. Thank you to Pravesh, Andra and the lovely waitress who made the delivery.

"Asian" seems a bit misleading, this is, as far as I understand, solely Indian restaurant. But a good one, definitely. Butter chicken was excellent.

The New Asia has been a feature of the Earls Court restaurant scene since the 1950s but sadly I found it wanting. I had dinner there on Saturday, 28th September and there isn't much I could recommend. First, I found the manner of the older gentleman, presumably the proprietor, to be rather offhand and not really welcoming at all. Secondly, to my surprise there was no hot tea on the menu - only cold and fizzy drinks. Finally, the plain naan I ordered was so severely burnt that it was impossible to eat. I wanted to point that out but as nobody seemed to be interested to enquire how the diners were enjoying their food, I let it pass. The main course was the only redeeming feature but even that won't make me go back.
