On 29th December we made a booking for dinner at Nouvelle Lounge St Albans on New Year's eve. It was confirmed by TheFork who also sent me a reminder the next day. However, late on 30th December the restaurant called me to cancel my reservation blaming TheFork for overbooking. What made it worse was that the person calling from the restaurant was unnecessary rude about the whole thing. Plus the fact that at this late stage it was difficult to get another booking for New Year's eve. It left a bad taste (sic!) and I will avoid using TheFork to make any bookings in the future, nor will I set foot in Nouvelle Lounge.

The Rami is my go to curry house, I am there quite often.. This is good because I always know that I am going to have good experience. This is bad, I get bored eating the same meals over and over again (they are excellent meals, but I do need a change). This visit, there was nothing on the menu that I really fancied, and I asked the staff for a recommendation. They recommended a sweet and sour Fish curry, but I do not eat fish.. not a problem, they can make it with chicken.. how hot did I want the curry? WOW - how many places can you get a custom meal! Never had sweet and sour curry before, it was interesting and I would try it again, maybe a little be a little braver with the curry level. The staff provide excellent service, the food is presented an tastes really good, I really like the ability to change the spice levels.

recently ordered from and I can’t stop raving about how incredible the experience was! From the moment I opened the bag, the aroma of spices hit me, promising something special—and it absolutely delivered. The butter chicken was rich, creamy, and perfectly spiced, with tender pieces of meat that melted in my mouth. The garlic naan? Fluffy, warm, and just the right amount of crispy on the edges—honestly, I could’ve eaten it on its own and been happy.

This is now called 'India Gate' and though first appearance may lead you to think it's just another high street, Indian restaurant that offers a huge menu with all the British favourites like korma, madras, tikka then it's maybe not for you. The menu is much smaller and they actually cook the food in the kitchen as opposed to heating pre-cooked meat up in ready made sauces. Very attentive service and very reasonable drinks prices.

This is apparently one of the longest serving restaurants in St Albans. It is certainly one in which you wait longest to be served. I have been brought food in other places in less time than it took them to take my order. I was not brought items I ordered. I was brought food without cutlery leaving it to get cold while I tried to attract the waiters' attention again. Worst of all, while I was waiting for the toilet, a man stuck his head out and said; "Please tell them there's no toilet paper", not conducive to a good appetite. The sad thing is the food is really good. The chefs seem to want us to have a good time but they appear to be fighting a losing battle with the waiters.
