While the food is tasty, delivery was late! We pre-ordered for 7:00 and it arrived at 7:28. Only order for delivery if you don’t have to be somewhere at a specific time.

Very disappointed. My usual and favourite dish obviously made by someone else, hot but sloppy and lacking flavour. Brown and wilting salad with the Chicken Tikka also. If new chef then they need to get up to speed quickly or get the old chef back. 2nd week running food not as good as usual. Any more and loyal long term customers will look elsewhere.

April 24 - local Indian takeaway. We go infrequently but I had a prawn curry and Chapatti which were good. Quick food.

the food is always good, but they do not know how to work the Just eat app properly. every time I order from there, there's never any update apart from "we have got your order" and then it says its delivered when it's not. it's always at least 20 minutes late, but at least the food is hit and good quality. they just need to figure out how to use the app.

The food was good just not as good as it normally is. I ordered the Chilli honey paneer, but I'm sure it had potato in it. Sauces were a little watery. Samosas and pakora were delicious. As I say it was good just not as delicious as normal.

I ordered a chicken dish, but lamb was delivered. I don't eat lamb so it was thrown away. such a waste! very disappointed

The food wasn't as tasty as it has usually been in the past. A bit more heat but less flavour and fewer prawns I think

Always get a great meal. Really tasty and some lovely unique dishes.

Do not order from this take away! This was always my go to Indian take away until I walked in to collect my order and see the chef flipping rice with he's bare hands, then licked his fingers and flipped the rice again! I am absolutely gob smacked and feel sick to my stomach. Absolutely gutted I drive 15 mins from my home to go to this specific take away and I always recommend it!

Unfortunately, the food could have been better - it was my first time ordering - the lamb dish had very little lamb and more of a soup than a curry and the korma and Bombay pot had no taste - The food did, however, come very fast. Sorry, we won't order again. It's such a shame.

Such good Indian food! The flavours were spot on and authentic, the portions sizes were really generous, super quick and friendly service. Definitely exceeded my expectations, will without a doubt be ordering from here again 😋

An absolute local grem! I’m not a big fan of spice but the rest of my family are and this place always caters to everyone’s tastes. Highly recommend the Bombay aloo and biryani.

The best Indian takeaway spot in the St Albans area. I have never been disappointed with the service given from the village spice, delivery’s are always on time and the food is always amazing. The menu has a wide variety of food to fulfil any desires, a personal favourite of mine is the butter chicken they also have a nice selection of noodles too.

I was given a delivery slot of 8:35-8:55pm, I called the restaurant at 9pm as nothing had been delivered but the app said it had. I was told “1 minute” I called the restaurant again at 9:25 as still nothing… I was told “10 minutes” - 20 minutes later I had a call from the restaurant saying the driver was struggling to find my house. I was a bit confused as the postcode I had given was correct etc and I’ve never had an issue before. I called the restaurant back to try and give directions and they were very unpleasant to deal with. The food finally arrived cold and bland.

Lovely first order. Will be ordering again 🙂

I was passing through Park Street, and went into the Village Spice for a curry and saw they had noodles on the menu too! Gave them a try and wasn’t disappointed. Had the village special noodles loaded with chicken, beef and prawns!! The tikka noodles were great too.

Have just got a curry from village spice , it was awful the rice was stodgy I'm sure it was a batch from lunch time my garlic chicken was like chicken in a tin of tomato soup the poppadoms where soggy and the nan was hard we are regulars but not anymore

Great food but delivery was longer than anticipated.

I first cooked indian food 40 years ago, and i have been a regular customer of the Village Spice since it first opened many years ago, and I feel lucky to have such an excellent establishment in How Wood.

I requested a bulk delivery for a party from the village spice and it exceeded my expectation! I had a family event of 30 people and we were all very pleased with the all the dishes provided. We were pleasantly surprised with a few extra freebies. Overall a great experience especially if you’re hosting an event or small get together.

I was in Park Street and I tried this place for the first time. Delicious food, good portion size at a reasonable price compared to other places. I also received great service. Plus I got 10% discount when I collected

Good take-away curry from this restaurant. A pity they've started charging so much for delivery but I guess they took a business decision. It means I won't order as often from them as before but they've become a treat rather than a weekly event.

I have been using this Take Away for over 25 years and have few complaints. The food is normally excellent. However, every so often the service goes pear shaped. The order is wrong and the delivery can be 90 minutes late with no apology or refund offered. This is probably staff related but even the offer of 1 free starter, or similar, to a regular customer is disappointing. Sadly, I might start to order from a competitor....I have enough menus stuck through me letterbox to choose from. SUMMARY: Food is fabulous, but customer service is woeful. Mark, Park Street.

It was 2 hours late and they also forgot a main.

We had a missing item but was not worried as what we did receive was absolutely bang on in taste. Top marks to the chef tonight.

Absolutely love our local indian takeaway/ delivery service. The food is excellent flavours are gorgeous and succulent soft chicken, delivered nice and hot and generally in 30-45 mins when busy. Great choice menu and great team

I normally don’t do reviews but hands down the best indian/bangladeshi food I’ve had in a while!! I didn’t know what to order and the gentleman at the front recommended me a few dishes. I decided to go for the lamb biriyani & chicken shashlik and it was absolutely amazing!!! The customer service was really good, definitely would go again!

Ordered for the family, they accommodated to our spice and salt level, as the kids don’t like too much spice and my husband has high blood pressure. Amazing service, great quality food and fast delivery!

Ordered a takeaway for 2, not loads of food. Absolutely awful, over priced and the quality of the food has halved since new owner. Chicken dish for 2 to share had 6 bits of chicken the rest was onion. The veg dish was similar, all juice no actual veg. Really disappointed. Been going here for 8 years. Not again.

This place has gone down hill again. The amount of chicken delivered in a portion is ridiculously small. I suspect they'd rather reduce portion size than raise prices to avoid reprinting the menus.

Food was lovely but late, that meant when the food arrived it as lukewarm. Such a pity as the food is delicious. It’s not the first time this has happened, but it will be our last. No more from here.

Very nice Indian takeaway I had on my break whilst at work. They made food to my level of extra spice that I wanted - naga! I will definitely be coming to this place more often.

Food was lovely, everyone ate everything. I rang the restaurant after waiting 15 past our expected time, only to be told, it’s being done now. Had to wait another 10-15 for it to arrive. I live 10 minutes away (walking) from the restaurant! No apology or ‘little extras’ as an apology

Food was great, albeit slightly cold, we also ordered and paid for some extra poppadoms which didn't come and delivery was late. However as mentioned, food was really tasty and we all enjoyed it.

Delivery was an hour and a half late, took over an hour to get an answer on the phone to the restaurant and then when it finally arrived the food was cold and an item was missing!!! Terrible service!

Tried to support my local take away, but would not order from them again. They made me wait 20 minutes for food which I had pre-ordered, the food was under-seasoned, bland and un-loved.

I would not recommend ordering from here. Second time i ordered from here and is my biggest regret. Previously before ordered a keema with a madras was fine, i ordered a chicken tikka biryani, comes with a curry which was piping hot but the biryani was not even warm which raised my suspicions. I proceeded to eat it taste wise was alright. Had ate it around 6ish. Went to bed around 12 so plenty of time for my dinner to digest, woke up at 4 am today vommitted 3 times and have had extreme diarrhoea, i am writing this review at 5:30am in the morning after an episode because I'm adamant that i want this review to be seen by others so that they can make an informed decision but also for spice village to be aware of this issue so they can improve business for the health and safety kf their customers, i'm lucky enough that I'm a young and healthy adult imagine if i was an older gentleman/ woman things would have been a lot harder to cope. Overall really unhappy that i have to go through this as i have work on the Saturday!

My main course, was watery, cold, the chicken was dried out, and tasted like it had just been thrown in the watery sauce. The cauliflower bhargi,was rock hard.

I get that times are busy. I anticipated a wait. But. Ordered at 5;50. Got a notification at 6:45 saying out for delivery - fine. Although 6:45 was delivery time. Phoned up at 7;25 got told “on it’s way bye” hang up. Very rude. Just over 10 mins later - 1 hr 45 mins after ordering- food arrives. Nice curry. Shame about the service 😕
