Veer Dhara One in St Albans

Ordered a take away this evening . My husband had eaten in there a while back and enjoy it, so thought we would try delivery. Something got lost in the delivery. My lamb passanda was bland yellow water with tough chucks of lamb and the poppadoms were just a bag of crumbs. The dips were tasteless . Overall not impressed. On a plus side - the delivery guy was great and earlier than expected 👍

Stopped in today for the Express Lunch. Food was excellent and service attentive - Honey Spiced Cauliflower starter and Lamb Rogan main (quite spicy for Rogan). For a fixed price menu (2 courses £14:99) portions are generous - desert (extra£1) was not needed! Instead we had coffee for an extra £1 each. Definitely recommend and will be dropping in for lunch again.

We visited as a group of 7 for a birthday dinner. The service was just lovely from start to finish, the food exceptional (and interesting) and atmosphere was perfect. Several friends joined from London and were hugely impressed. Very highly recommended and well worth the journey

This place offers a delightful dining experience with a classy atmosphere that sets the mood for a relaxing meal. The food overall is commendable, with a variety of well-prepared dishes. However, one minor letdown was the Lamb Biryani, which felt more like lamb rice mixed with gravy, falling short of traditional expectations for me. May be it is good for people who didnt try biriyani before. Despite this, the rest of the menu items were satisfying. A special mention goes to the staff member who was serving, Devendar, who was exceptionally polite and attentive, ensuring a pleasant experience with regular check-ins. Overall, it's a great spot for good food and excellent service.

Decided to go to Veer Dhara to celebrate my mum's birthday but it ended up being the biggest regret. Once we got seated, the food took absolute AGES to come. I had to ask the waiter multiple times how long it was going to take. The main course took even longer. When it finally arrived, my two year old had no patience left so I had to leave with him without eating the main meal. Lots of food wasted as the dishes we ordered (Allepe curry and some Chicken curry) did not taste good. Truly disappointed as I looked at the reviews before bringing my parents here. Safe to say we won't be returning.

I can’t speak highly enough of this restaurant. Beautiful interior; warm ambiance; diligent and friendly service; and as for the food, it’s some of the best Indian food in the U.K. This place is famous for a reason. Get starters - I recommend the squid konkani and the tikka achari murg. Beautiful flavours. We had AJ as our waiter - he did such a good job and made sure we had the perfect evening. We had a wonderful meal. The staff were attentive and welcoming and the food was delicious. The menu offers a massive range, we both had different curries really enjoyed them. We also tried the Kulfi which is made in house and was refreshing and delicately flavoured. We wish we lived closer as we would happily return and certainly will next time we are in St. Alban's.

Good quality Indian food. Overall a nice place to visit with family and friends. Sunday buffet and set meal is definitely recommended. Parking available nearby.

Finally there is a proper north Indian Punjabi resturant ! Without having to drive to Southall. The quality of the food, attention to detail is perfected here. I had the mixed grill and all of the meat was cooked to perfection! Salmon tikka, chicken tikka, king prawn, lamb chop, kebab roll and garlic naan. I love the historical portraits particularly Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Outstanding! I will be back & look forward to trying more dishes. Parking on a Sunday is free if you find a space within walking distance, however I believe there is a pay and display 50 meters away. 7 stars from me!

We were in St Albans on a family trip and picked this place at random. Was please surprised. Great food, lovely staff, highly recommended

Manager was very rude. Service was poor, order drink without ice and water-glasses before we start the starter, both wasn't came till I finish my starter, when I asked for my drink manager was rude to us, anyway when drink came glass was full of ice so asked to remove ice, again manager was rude to us and told you should tell it before....which we already told them. The way manager reacted he ruined my mood for easter lunch.

Food not fine dining, stingy on the amount for a starter. Naan not fluffy. But OK and my chicken tandoori masala was tasty

The menu is not your usual standard UK flock wallpaper curry house. It’s up several notches than that. We had a lamb passanda, Kaddish chicken, and a Boti Kebab, all very tasty with the Kaddish especially hot. Flat onion bhajis were crispy, nice mushroom rice but the garlic Nan could have done with more garlic. The only criticism would be the service which was great at first only to be a bit full on after a while as we were asked about 6 times from 4 different waiting staff, interupting our conversations, if the food was ok. It was very good thankyou.

Visited this place last night with a couple of friends and would recommend to anyone. Beautifully fresh-flavoured food, dishes were all of great quality and really good service.

My friend brought me here, hailing it as delicious and tom cruise's favourite. I really wasn't impressed. The menu was pretentious and overpriced. The dishes I ordered were lacking flavour and small. Staff took a long time to attend to us, even though there weren't many customers. Won't be returning.

It is so good you have feel bad for the other curry houses in St albans. All round perfect place for a curry. The lunch time menu is well worth checking out aswell.

Very good food we had the two persons social menu at £29.95 pp which was very good value also the service was very good as just before Christmas the place was full.

I don't like Indian food. But when my younger sister recommended me to try Indian food here. I changed my mind. It was great. The spice taste was not too much. It tastes just right. The price of the lunch set is not expensive. And papadum is the most delicious I've ever eaten. I intend to come back and try their buffet soon.

-- Great place with very reasonable prices. -- Staff have a smile on the face and won't certainly step over your toes to take orders -- food taste is fantastic for most dishes and very few others which won't tick the box for purists -- Parking is a small problem but in a few hundred feet you've got paid parking. -- felt a tiny bit cramped for space between tables/seats when going in a large group.

I was waiting to take a table, when this person came to me and said u can have this table for one hour, as I suggested you want me to leave within one hour and as I started walking towards table near bar area he came and grabbed my arm and said you ant go that side at this stage I pulled my arm and said don't pull my arm and this is very unprofessional and asked to see head chef dharmendea at this stage he said I am the manager and I was not very happy with his attitude. so wouldn't recommend at all. these people carry status and only interested in that. wouldn't recommend at all to any one.

1st visit to the restaurant. Sunday Buffet with a party of ten. Very friendly service. Nice venue & good atmosphere. Very good selection of meat & vegetarian options & a desert option. Definitely plan to revisit in the future. Added adhoc bonus a young magician wandering around the restaurant demonstrating card tricks, nice touch.

Ordered the King Prawn Gulmohar for £16.90 and it was disgusting. The prawns had been clearly frozen so they had a consistency of mush once cooked, the onion bhaji was like biting into a concrete brick so I was just left with some rice that was edible for the sum of £35. So many better Indian restaurants in town so wouldn't bother with this place. Expensive and awful.

Went for the buffet very disappointing, service was very lazy, nobody asks how your food is, just if you’ve finished. Plus you are charged & additional service charge, for the privilege at a buffet 😂😂😂 Food was not replenished, naan rubbery no flavour, not one redeeming dish. I left the lid on the lamb curry open, because it was all sauce no meat. But it wasn’t busy so they just left it, they only replenished the popadoms. The Onions they can’t be bothered to chop up even. I have had some good food here, but there’s only one chef, an older guy that can cook. Otherwise the food is bland, totally unimpressed I can’t find one positive.

From walking in to leaving. Absolutely no complaints. The food was top notch. Onion Bhajis & cauliflower starters. Very tasty. Chicken Curry was excellent. The best Lamb Rogan Josh around. The lamb was so tender it melted in my mouth. The service was very good & really friendly. The lunchtime menu is fantastic value for money, especially as we are all watching the pennies. Can’t wait to go back.

Terrible experience with this restaurant. The staff were unhelpful, rude and condescending, and failed to acknowledge or rectify our grievances. Two dishes were incorrectly served which is completely unacceptable and was not acknowledged/resolved. The quality of the food was poor, tasteless and not worth the price. This is the first and last time I will order at this restaurant, especially given the safety risk of receiving an incorrect meal coupled with their 3 food hygiene rating.

I went here for my brother's birthday and had the Tom Cruise chicken tikka. I started feeling ill as soon as I got home from the restaurant, I then was very unwell all through the night and until 3 pm the next day. I went to Urgent Care but my condition was deteriorating rapidly so I went to A&E where I was put on a drip. The doctor diagnosed me with food poisoning from this restaurant. I have had to have two days off work. The restaurant offered a discount for the ordeal but I would certainly not go back after this.

We enjoyed a delicious takeaway via Deliveroo. Food was piping hot, well presented and very tasty! Veer Dhara included extras (three different sauces and a salad) which was a nice touch. Lovely flavours - the saag aloo was delicious and we highly recommend the assorted vegetarian starter. Thanks Veer Dhara!

Awesome place to visit for pure Indian taste. You can enjoy great food. Make sure you book the table in advance else it will be difficult to get place to sit. Service at peek time can be little problem rather I will say slow. But it is okay not that much. For good food that much some time can be adjusted. Important one parking if you driving down can be challnage as they don't have parking that to on road more then 3 car space. So plan accordingly park near by and walk down. Njoy the great Indian food

Overall was great, but it would be really helpful if for a large order like this (18 items) to label the containers as it took us some time to work out what was what!! Meal and food quality was excellent.

The ambience is so beautiful, I was feeling like I am at India. Staff behaviour is just amazing, all of them are amazing, I was served by Mr Ajay Sen, he is very humble and polite ,carrying a smiley face always ,approachable . Food quality is also very nice and taste is definitely great. Overall experience is good .

Butter chicken and the garlic nan are very nice. The famous lobster curry is nice but we do feel that lobster can easily be substituted with other seafood like prawns. The dish doesn’t bring out the lobster unfortunately. Having said that, the dish still worths a try. Servers are very attentive and polite.

June 2023: Underwhelming A trip back to St Albans and therefore we were really looking forward to a curry at Veer Dhara One. Sad to say, we were very disappointed with the food this time. Maybe the chef we had last time was off, maybe it was because we turned up at 10.20, and we were met with a greeting of "We're closing at 11pm", I'm not sure but neither of these should have made a difference, we were still customers. I had a lamb pasanda which was so yellow in colour it almost was green. The taste was pretty bland, I've had significantly better from supermarkets ☹️. The other 3 mains my group had weren't much better, and this is the same group of friends who I went with last time. After our frosty welcome, and speed ordering (fair enough), the waiters didn't get any happier with, or friendlier towards, us. It was obvious they wanted us to leave, despite other customers still eating. The atmosphere, like last time, was lacking. Just 2 or 3 other tables were in use when we arrived. My previous 5 star review has therefore been amended, The only reason it's getting 2 stars is because it was so good on the previous occasions. If my score were just based on last night then it would be 1* overall and also for each aspect. More importantly though, I'm not sure I want to return to see if it improves, I'm certainly not going to make it my restaurant of choice next time we are in the city. I'll be interested to see if they respond to this review too. August 2022: AMAZING FOOD 😀 I've been to the Veer Dhara One twice now with different groups of friends. All of them said it's the best Indian restaurant in the city and I completely agree, the food is stunning and totally worth the little bit extra. The service is friendly but not imposing or distracting. I hope this review encourages you to book a table. My only slight negative is that it has lacked a little atmosphere on both occasions as it's been nowhere near full. I know I'd also complain if it was too full so I guess I'm being a bit of a Goldilocks. Certainly it was lovely being able to converse without shouting to one another.
