Pepe Sale

Abbey, Reading, >100£
14/12/2018: In a modern world of chain restaurants, this wonderful, authentic, friendly and delicious Italian eatery bucks the trend. Something for everyone and deliciously fresh, this laid back eatery is a real must visit!! If I could give a 6 or 7 star rating I would.
14/12/2018: Visited with friends who were visiting from out of town. Great food. Friendly service and relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely be back !

Quattro Restaurant

Caversham, Reading
10/12/2018: We recently came here for my birthday on a Sunday evening and I can honestly say it is one of the best meals I have ever eaten. Every single bite was delicious.
09/12/2018: Most of us had the 2 course set menu, which is reasonably priced. I really enjoyed the starter and sea bass fillet for main. Even though we stayed rather a long time we were still welcome and given a amaretti drink on the house.

Shed

Abbey, Reading
14/12/2018: I was very excited to visit Shed because I saw that it was listed as no.2 for cheap eats in Reading. It's nicely hidden and near the train station. The decor is pretty and the restaurant has a homely feel. The service was remarkably fast and the waitress was polite. The food was pleasant but I felt like my portion was too small for what I had paid, and I left feeling not very full (I had the houmous bowl, expecting to be stuffed afterwards as the salad bowls are the most expensive food choice there). However, despite the menu being quite small, there is a good balance of vegan and vegetarian options.
13/12/2018: Lovely staff, great atmosphere, spent over 2 hours in there & never felt rushed. Simple retro decor. Wonderful!

Piwnica Pub

Park, Reading
12/12/2018: Went because I wanted to try something new and different. Piwnica is an authentic Polish restaurant serving delicious food. It is clearly very popular, which is always a good sign and the service was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. We had a lovely evening and I would highly recommend it.
16/11/2018: Not where you'd expect a restaurant to be, in the basement below what is now the Polish Catholic Centre in Reading, but then most things about this visit were unexpected, least of all my first time in a Polish restaurant. A huge and handy free car park behind the restaurant. The tables, bare wood and the decor fairly basic with some Polish artifacts around the place from different ages and a bar at the end. It is spotlessly clean, however and service is friendly and attentive. I started with Zupa Borowik, a porcini mushroom soup, made fresh and utterly succulent with unique porcini flavour and a slight zing. I loved it! For the main, I had the Dorsz, a cod fillet with ratatouille on a piping hot bed of mashed potato. Again superb! The ratatouille was spicy without being overpowering and the cod was cooked to perfection, the potatoes being just right. To be honest, I wasn't expecting this kind of quality. Neither was I expecting the generosity of the portions! I had a couple of glasses of a New Zealand white Chardonnay which was very pleasant, though not outstanding. All in all soup will cost between £4 and £6 and a main between £13 and £16. A glass of wine is around the £6 mark, but a decent sized glass is about a quarter of a bottle! Price-wise not bad at all, food-wise very good indeed. If there was one downside it was minor; food was slow coming out of the kitchen, although I can forgive this because of the quality. Plus, it was a Monday night. Best in Reading? Well, it's certainly coming close.

London Street Brasserie

Abbey, Reading, 20-30£
16/12/2018: London Street is one of the few places in Reading that you can recommend consistently without hesitation, for a romantic dinner or with a group of friends. The staff are always professional, warm and polite, the views are extremely pleasant (especially if you can look out over the canal) and the set menu is astoundingly good value, both in terms of how often it is available and the sheer choice of set menu options.
13/12/2018: Nice convenient venue, friendly, helpful, efficient staff. Delicious food and drink and my wife is still drooling over the Baked Alaska dessert. Our first visit but not the last, thanks to all for making it a lovely break between the shopping.

Miller and Carter

Abbey, Reading
16/12/2018: Good food friendly service and quickly served, the only slight drawback was it was very busy but they managed to give us a two hour window even though we had not booked a table.
16/12/2018: If you really like steaks, Miller and Carter is the perfect place to go in Reading.

Coconut Bar & Kitchen

Abbey, Reading
15/12/2018: Had a brilliant master class with Michael. 2 cocktails made each and a very motivated cocktail master. highly recommended.
15/12/2018: I've visited here a couple times and both times it's been packed. The food is amazing and we were lucky enough to get to same server both times, Vicky. She was very friendly and helpful, even with us being annoying about splitting bills. Will definitely be visiting again as soon as I can.

25/11/2018: Lovely family atmosphere, friendly staff and the food has always been great. Enjoyed a lovely roast dinner today. Perfect place to socialise
18/11/2018: The Rose is our local so we come here as a family a lot, I love the food, great pub grub but today we decided to try the roast and it was yummy. I never eat a roast dinner out I always prefer a home cooked roast but this tasted just as good. Just confirms exactly why we love it here, fab atmosphere, lovely customers and staff and great for the family. A little treasure!

Cote Brasserie - Reading

Abbey, Reading
16/12/2018: 4 of us ate here yesterday. The place was crowded with Christmas shoppers so we expected the service to be slow, but we were so wrong.
10/12/2018: We went to Cote as a large group. Ordered our food in advance and once there food arrived promptly. Out of all about 25-30 orders only one did not arrive correct. But this was very quickly fixed.

Forburys

Abbey, Reading, 45-60£
15/12/2018: We had Office Xmas Party 28 people. We booked table with fixed menus. But food served after 55 min. The portion of starter is really surprising (too small). One of my friends clearly mentioned on his order (side dishes) - it was not there, when he asked waiter was so rude, till end of party he seems same - which is not good. Overall service was okay. Bit disappointed !!
07/12/2018: We had our Christmas dinner here last night, but have to say disappointed for the price. The staff were nice, but everything was a bit rushed. We sat down for dinner around 7:20, and we had finished our three course meal by 8:30, and hit with bill for £61. My turkey meal was dry, and the duck roasted potatoes were not! As I say disappointed at the price, so many good restaraunt in reading.

Cafe YOLK

Redlands, Reading, <20£
18/12/2018: Food is lovely especially breakfast. The coffee and drinks are good. It can be busy but the wait for a table is never too long! It’s kid friendly although buggy space is limited
11/12/2018: I took my Mum and Aunty to Yolk for breakfast whilst they were visiting me in Reading. Omg the smashed avacado was amazing, the atmosphere is really buzzing and the coffee was very good. If your looking for an independent eatery with a cool vibe then this is the place. I’ll be back soon!

The Bull Inn Arborfield

Katesgrove, Reading
16/12/2018: Family meal, not bad, not good. Repeatedly ordered tea and diet coke but it never arrived. Everything OK but nothing special. Swordfish juicy and succulent, lamb shank overcooked and a bit dry. Nice soup, nice pate, average sponge pudding...….
09/11/2018: Really enjoyable meal today at the restaurant.
