The Grumpy Mole - Brockham

Brockham, Betchworth and Buckland, Mole Valley
13/03/2019: Lovely food attentive staff and good atmosphere. Table for 4 in the window in the bar every plate cleaned as the food was delicious. I had the sea bass which was lovely and the burger looked good too. Sausage and mash off the Childrens menu was a hit as well.
10/03/2019: In search of country pubs that don’t disappoint, this was a winner. The location, ambience and decor were pretty with a great selection of food and wine, and our meals were delicious. When a pub appears to be part of a group, I always have my doubts and locally the selection of places to eat and drink have become somewhat ‘blah’, for want of a better word. We ate in the bar - lucky to find a nice table as we didn’t book and this was our first time. Robin, behind the bar while it was really busy, was gracious and helpful and the staff were equally attentive, friendly and efficient - they listened to specifics about the order for one of our party and the dish came out perfectly. Really lovely, worth a visit and look forward to coming again. I’d highly recommend this place! They have amazing ice cream and I’m not normally a fan, especially the champagne and strawberry.

Mullins Coffee Shop

Dorking North, Mole Valley
19/03/2019: Went in for a Saturday morning coffee - haven’t been for ages. Took our young puppy. Warm and friendly ambience - warm and friendly service. Interesting history on one wall of the Mullins family who emigrated to America. People still come from the US to visit it.
01/03/2019: Very busy, extremely friendly, definitely worth a visit. Great value, lovely food. Well worth our long walk to get here

The Half Moon

Charlwood, Mole Valley, <20£
07/03/2019: Had a great evening meal here. The food was excellent, home cooked and traditional. Enjoyable English pub ambiance with reasonable bar prices.
02/03/2019: I had the chicken dish, which came with salad, coleslaw and chips. There was no difficulty with exchanging the chips for vegetables.

Dorking North, Mole Valley, 20-30£
17/02/2019: I visited this restaurant today purely on reviews here. I have only ever reviewed two other restaurants, so not a serial critic. The whole experience was really quite ‘nothing’. The welcome, dismissive. The food not good (although we were never asked). The service, quite literally non existent. Clearly we were served, however I can’t remember anything. The restaurant itself - dull, cold, needs refurbishment. Take this as you will. My comments are made because on this occasion I felt completely mislead by other reviews.
11/02/2019: We visited viva over a year ago as a whim. And what a find it was. The service was fantastic and the food even better. So with Valentine’s Day approaching we made a special visit (we live about 200 miles away!)

The Red Lion

Brockham, Betchworth and Buckland, Mole Valley
17/03/2019: We met up with a friend here today and all I can say is wow, what a fantastic hidden gem. It’s got a beautiful warm feeling and the pub and restaurant is so relaxing. We went downstairs to the cellar part to eat and we loved it. Warm, cosy and very inviting. The meal was outstanding and very reasonably priced too. The restaurant was clean and the toilets were immaculate too. Our waitress Heather was so professional, happy and polite, nothing was a problem for her. She is a credit to the restaurant. Also Sophie I think that was her name was just a good and again a credit to your wonderful establishment. We will be back and looking forward to a bit of sunshine so we can sit outside.
17/03/2019: Enjoyed a pleasant lunch on a Sunday at 1.00pm with wife and daughter. Staff friendly but service was quite slow - difficult to gain attention of waiting or bar staff. Food good and atmosphere cosy - a good combination for a Sunday pub lunch.

The Plough

Leatherhead North, Mole Valley
02/03/2019: Visited the Plough for the first time last night with friends as it was a convenient location. Car park was very busy, but managed to get a space. We were seated in the back part of the restaurant with the tile floor, so it was quite noisy, however the noise died down when family with small children left and there was a good buzz to the place. Waiting staff very pleasant and drinks arrived promptly when ordered. We opted for a set menu and the Food was delicious... good flavours and the drunken noodles were good and spicy. I especially liked the tamarind chicken. My husband had banana fritters which he said were delicious as they had a coconut batter which is a bit different. Personally, I’d prefer ice cream served in a bowl rather than on a plate and didn’t need the squirty cream or sugar sprinkles! Would definitely go here again
21/02/2019: I cannot describe just how good the food is at the Plough. Authentic Thai food in delightful setting. Just make sure you book in advance, they are always booked well in advance. Thai food doesn't get better than this! Thank you, Malai Thai

The Cock Inn

Box Hill and Headley, Mole Valley
18/03/2019: I had never been to this pub before but booked it for my birthday lunch when I saw Surrey Life Magazine list it as one of the best in Surrey. I wasn't disappointed. It was a very relaxing dining experience right from the off - the place has a decent size car park! Not many country pubs can claim that. The welcome was warm and they had reserved the table I had requested on booking (which I'd seen on the gallery section of their website). Our waitress, Kirsty, was very friendly and provided us with excellent service throughout. The food was really good pub grub and the sticky toffee pudding was delicious. Thoroughly recommend this lovely pub in a quiet part of the countryside - you would not believe you were not far from Epsom! There was good seating outside too so we will definitely visit again in the Summer if not before.
17/03/2019: We chose this place off of Google Maps having been on a walk nearby and after looking at the menu to see if they catered for dairy and gluten free bods.

Abinger Hatch

Leith Hill, Mole Valley
19/03/2019: What a delightful pub the Abinger Hatch is!!! We had Sunday lunch there in August 2018 and have to say that it is a very popular place!!! Would definitely visit again given the chance.
09/03/2019: Having just returned from lunch at this establishment, to say we were disappointed would be an understatement!

Royal Oak

Holmwoods, Mole Valley, <20£
30/01/2019: I seen the sign post and all said to myself must pop in so l did on Tuesday lunchtime
17/01/2019: We have driven passed this pub a lot of times on way to Dorking and it always looks like a traditional pub, so we popped in here recently for a pub lunch. Nice welcome when we arrived, log fire on the go, small menu for brunch/lunch but it had most of the things needed for a pint and bite to eat. Food was freshly prepared and tasty. Restaurant and tables are separate from the bar and darts, so quite a good mix.

British Raj

Beare Green, Mole Valley
08/02/2019: Great food, lovely staff. Strongly recommend the restaurant they have at the Dukes Head in Holmwood, Dorking. Great curry’s and the Naan breads are are something special! Enjoy :)
31/01/2019: Went for a sit down at the British Raj a few weeks ago, which is now situated in the Dukes head pub. Very pleasant staff behind the bar and in the restaurant. The meal was delicious and everyone e who was at the table, said they’d definitely eat there again.

Stepping Stones

Mickleham, Westhumble and Pixham, Mole Valley, >100£
03/03/2019: Decided to try Stepping Stones for lunch after a lovely long walk. I don’t often complain about food, but this time I felt compelled to do so - to my distress, the leek and mushroom pie contained a significant amount of grit, letting me guess that the chef had not washed the leeks before cooking them. The cardboardy crust of the pie was so hard it could hardly be cut. I left the restaurant with grit in my teeth.
19/02/2019: So disappointing. Spent a lovely morning at Polesden Lacey NT and thought a pub lunch would be more atmospheric than the NT cafe. We placed an order for our food from the blackboard. A few minutes later we were advised that they didn’t have our chosen meal. We told them we’d pay for the drinks and move on......miraculously, a few minutes later we were told that they DID have the food available! So, we proceeded.

The Dorking Deli

Dorking North, Mole Valley
15/02/2019: Worth popping in just for the hot chocolate. It's a little off the main drag but worth making the effort. They also sell a varied selection of bottled gins
30/01/2019: I have had lunch, cake and hot drinks there it is small but popular and they have Vegan options and whilst a small menu ,fresh and tasty ,salads and soup

Cote Brasserie - Dorking

Dorking North, Mole Valley, 20-30£
13/03/2019: Visited with friends on a Saturday night and was very busy when we arrived at 7.30 so its popular. However the dishes whilst pleasant are nothing special and having been to other cotes in the past i have had better in their other establishments. Overall other than a rather delayed dessert which meant the ice cream was liquid, slightly spoiling the excellent fondant i was just left feeling as though it could have been better.
11/03/2019: Wherever you go in the country, you know you will get the same high standard of food for the same money; a bit on the expensive side but value for money. So what is there not to like. Well, yesterday at Dorking there were three other people in the restaurant as we were eating early. The mustard for my son's steak never came and his second beer had to chased; it eventually came by the time he had almost finished eating. No excuse for this when the place is practically empty. Need to do better. Service was also slow - hate to think what this place would be like when full.

52 the Street

Charlwood, Mole Valley
16/01/2019: Stopped here when taking her out for a drive mother-in-law on a Wednesday morning. Lots of people inside, cyclists included. We only had coffee, but the menu very good. All day breakfast was very popular and good value including a drink. Highly recommend, we will be back for lunch.
01/01/2019: This place is a real treasure, great food and lovely friendly helpful staff. Their jacket potatoe and chilli is the best I’ve had anywhere, nicely presented with a small ramikin of greated cheese, one of sour cream and some salad, very moorish. Highly recommend.

Mickleham, Westhumble and Pixham, Mole Valley, 20-30£
27/02/2019: Called by with friends who had eaten there a few weeks earlier.
25/02/2019: Surgelés, réchauffés au micro ondes, deco fatiguée années 70. Incroyable de servir une cuisine pareille, a fuir.
