Yesterday I had business in the Surrey Hills and I do declare I ate the best ham, egg and chips that any kitchen ever put on a plate anywhere in the world! The winning establishment is the Abinger Hammer tea rooms. Service by the sole proprietor, Anne! I also picked up a couple of surplus squashes from a neighbour’s wall left out for passers by. Kindness and good service may still be a force to be reckoned with!

We have been visiting this quaint tea room for many year and been to several tea rooms (we are bored pensioners that have to get out)but there is no other quite like this. The staff are always friendly, the food freshly cooked to order, home made cakes and my favourit the flapjack. The tea pots, cups and saucers and plates are all very tastful aged decorated china. What a treat,a cup and saucer !!! Anne, the owner, always has time for a chat with us before we leave. Any one visiting Surrey Hills should call in for a little bit of "olde England"It is really a lovely quant little tea room.Highly recommended.

What a lovely lady the owner is. We had a lovely lunch after cycling and walking. She could not have been more helpful. Even got a passing customer to serve us which was very funny.

And boy, was it a welcome experience! This gorgeously quaint tea room doubles as a village shop. They were selling fishing nets for catching tiddlers and across the road children were using them to fish in the Tilling Bourne, while parents sat under a canopy and enjoyed morning tea. The perfect school holiday scene. It's the sort of tiny business that could have gone under during Lockdown, were it not for a resourceful owner who sourced items the supermarkets couldn't find, so that the shop became a magnet for villages all around. I was the lone customer for tea the morning I stopped by. The room was spotless and beautifully decorated. I had two poached eggs on incredibly buttery toast and perfect tea from the cutest pot. I bought a slab of that old standby, bread pudding, to take with me. (No one offers bread pudding any more.) I doubt I'd have made those long climbs up onto the Downs, all the way to Box Hill, without being able to break off regular pieces of pudding to sustain me. Hidden gems like this village and this little tea rooms need to be preserved. They are the essence of England.

We visited on a Sunday afternoon and had booked a table, as we knew there are only 14/15 seats and the tea room is popular. Annie is on holiday this week, but we still had very friendly service, with tasty fresh bread watercress and egg sandwiches, amazing thick cut very hot chips (tempting!), and warm scone slice with clotted cream and jam. Quiet with no background music, quaint and homely. The service was not the fastest, as the lady was managing brilliantly all on her own, but this gave us time to chat with our friends. We will be back to try the range of home-made cakes. With the embroidered table cloths and variety of china cups, as well as fresh flowers, and smiling chatty lady, we felt very welcome. Very therapeutic after a hectic week - a lovely escape into another, more civilised world! Thank you for a lovely afternoon. Long may this tea room last!

Went for tea and cake with friends. Very strange old fashioned shop and tea room which seemed to be run by one lady.Good pot of tea and excellent scone which was different from the usual as it was cut from a large scone in a slice like a cake.Parking nearby very difficult.

Welcoming owners, dog friendly, indoor tea room with china teacups and embroidered tablecloths, and outdoor seating too. Like going back 40 years, but in a nice way! Tasty home make cake. Pretty village green and stream across the busy road, and the quirky clock on the building down the road. Small village shop attached to tearoom.

Unfortunately the reviews on here didn't match our experience of the Tea Rooms. Although there was a very quaint atmosphere and the owners were lovely, I can't say that the food was great. It was somewhat below average. We ordered milkshakes that didn't meet our expectations - it literally was milk with nesquik (or something of the sort). I know this is the "old fashioned" milkshake but now a days you'd expect ice cream in a milkshake - perhaps changing the name of the item on the menu would help manage customers' expectations. Our sandwich took far, far too long to arrive (over 30 mins) and the Marie Rose sauce was very watery, although overall the sandwich tasted fine. The toffee, pecan and cranberry cake was too dry and you couldn't really taste the toffee or the pecans. It was an okay cake, but for a tea room it was disappointing. Overall, it was an okay experience - prices were adequate for the food - I just wish that the quality of the food had been better.

I had excellent home made sandwiches and cakes as part of the High Tea. Well presented and delicious. Only £12.95 per person. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Had to take own high chair for little one and needed to carry pram up steps but defintely worth the effort. Will definitely go back!

My sister and I took our mother here yesterday for Mother's day. What a treat! We really couldn't fault our visit. Afternoon tea was absolutely delicious. Beautiful old tea sets and crockery, and two lovely friendly ladies serving and stopping for a chat. The tea itself was enormous so we were given doggy bags to bring the rest home! The best home made scones and thick clotted cream ever, loads of choice in a great old fashioned tea shop.We will be back soon!

This was for Grandpa’s seventieth Birthday tea. We had to order a “high tea” in advance which for £11.50 per head was an amazing spread: little sandwiches, scones with cream, bread pudding slices, quiche, meringues with cream and raspberries, macaroons and Victoria sponge cake. Remember, you are not going for the decor, which is very simple - but the this is its charm. There are only a few tables, but the attention is all there for you, so enjoy the experience as these little tearooms are few and far between.

Hidden gem inside Abinger Hammer post office and shop; a traditional tea room, serving a very good, freshly cooked, egg and bacon toasted bap (decent bacon, perfectly fried egg, artisan-style bread) with Kingfisher Watercress on the side. Small but light and sunny room, with just four or five tables, set with lovely mis-matched crockery. Proper tea. A must if you are walking around and about Abinger.

Attractive tea room in a great setting in Abinger Hammer. It overlooks the Green and the Tillingbourne stream. Jack Hammer is 20 yards down the road. I have stopped there for a light lunch when walking from Dorking to Guildford. On this occasion I was cycling with friends. On every visit I have had excellent service and snacks. The cream tea is particularly good value.

This is run by the grange and encourages some disadvantage people to cook and mix the customers. Although the choice of food and drinks are limited there is enough to choose from . Jacket potatoes were nice. It is very good value and a worthwhile cause.to support, booking in advance is essential

Fantastic service, sadly my husband had some of the blue label in his wine which went un noticed until we mentioned it and I had a large bone in a small fillet of seabass. There was no apology, just a response from thr head chef of oh, that sometimes happens. This made me feel that we were there at their behest, not enjoying a relaxed Anniversary celebration as was intended. The waitress referred to my husband and I as guys which wasnt appreciated. Some incredibly odd food pairings of black garlic in a petit four and castel blue cheese and German sausage on a plate of Highland venison. It is the most beautiful building but I have enjoyed better tasting food in other locations. Sadly not for me, an8d I am classically trained in food cookery.

Hopefully this excellent coffee lounge will re-open soon. Visited just before the lockdown and had an excellent lunch in the sunny garden room. The staff were very friendly; the food was of high quality, well prepared and the prices were reasonable. It's well worth a visit, as it is home to a very large, fine quality antiques centre. We spent at least an hour browsing and purchased some silver (there is a wonderful selection of genuine silver and objet's d'art here). Dorking remains an old-fashioned market town and this tea-room is a gem.

We were here for a lunchtime wake with family and friends. Ben did a bespoke menu for us at a very competitive price. The food was lovely and fresh and guests also commented on how nice it was. I had no problem trusting that everything would be taken care of, it was all set out and ready on our arrival. It’s quite a small pub but we managed to fit in ok to the sectioned off area for our guests. There is also a pleasant outside area to sit should the weather be good. Would definitely go back under different circumstances to sample the menu.
