Went to the garden house for lunch. So beautiful and atmospheric, everybody was really welcoming and Phillipa was especially lovely, taking good care of us and informing us of the menu and specialities of the day. The beef ragu was delicious and the sticky toffee pudding was a great treat! Definitely worth it.

Lunch today for six, lovely location, horrible prices. Do you really have to charge £140 for a T bone steak, more for sides and at least £35 for a small glass of wine and then a service charge? Take a large bag of cash, a sense of humour and enjoy the fleecing.

This restaurant is in a lovely setting, especially in the summer. We were given a table out on a covered terrace, looking on to a field of wild flowers. Rugs and heaters were provided if we needed warmth. The staff were efficient and friendly. The menu was expensive - (London prices). For this the food was disappointing. Scallops were beautifully cooked but smoked tomato orzo underneath spoiled the dish. Roasted figs lacked flavour (seasoning). Dover sole was excellent but French beans which were extra were completely raw so not edible. Chicken was nicely presented but again lacked flavour. The best dish was the apple Tarte Tatin which tasted absolutely delicious but was supposed to be hot but was in fact served tepid so the dish was spoiled as the pastry was solid. All this should be so much better.

This restaurant is amazing. The staff are ALL superb. Their skill is clear and their empathy and kindness is exceptional. We went here for my Mum's 93rd Birthday they could not have gone out of their way more to make the occasion special. The food is totally excellent and worth every penny. Jemima our waitress was brilliant. The hostess Annabel was the best we have ever seen. She was totally " on " everything that was happening in the whole restaurant. Josh the manager was empathetic and impressive. The venue is unbeatable. Choose this restaurant for the special things and the every day events and they will make everything special.

Very poor, was expecting excellent quality food and exemplary service. Restaurant failed on both, comparable to an average pub lunch. We arrived 20 minutes early to use their pre lunch bar, no space so sat under the stairs (literally). Ordered a bottle of wine and a lager - asking for glass of wine from bottle and bottle to be sent to table. Subsequently went to table, no wine. Asked where wine was, a new bottle delivered - Obviously no comms with bar. We were given menus, 10 minutes later they tried to serve a beer, which we had not ordered. Another ten minutes later had to ask for order to be taken, we then waited a further 15 minutes. After starter, we then waited a further 20 minutes, main course arrived, plate almost cold, meat cold vegetables cold. Sent food back and 10 minutes later, got replacement which was slightly warmer, but on cold plate. Food poor, including two full size carrots, that were warm but raw - they required a steak knife to cut (I like my vegetables al dente, those delivered should have been in a salad). Throughout the meal we had 5 different staff serving, who clearly did not speak to each other and were not coordinated. When paying the bill the service charge was removed - the only thing they got correct in the time we were there. In summary, dreadful

My wife and I had a fantastic night at Garden House. The food was exceptional and the staff incredibly polite and attentive. We started off with house cocktails, Scarborough Fair, yummy! We followed this with nibbles of squid and focaccia, then shared the caramelised onion tart (we asked for recipe!). I had the spring chicken main, very succulent and flavourful, and my wife had the stone bass (I had a nibble and it was delish). We didn’t need dessert but managed to squeeze in a sticky toffee pudding (me) and tiramisu (my wife). All in all we had a great night and would recommend the Garden House to anyone looking for quality food and service.

I recently enjoyed lunch here with a friend and it was really very good. I had the shallot tarte tatin to start and it was honestly one of the most delicious things I’ve ever eaten. My main of baby chicken was slightly disappointing, the chicken was quartered and a little dry. Side dishes of mash & greens were good. Service was excellent - very friendly and attentive. The surroundings and decor gorgeous. I’ve knocked off a star as the wine list is eye wateringly expensive. I mean REALLY expensive. It would be good if they could offer at least a few more reasonably-priced wines. I managed to find a fairly decent bottle at £53. I think that was the cheapest I saw, but I could be wrong! Wine by the glass (175ml) seemed to be priced from £35 upwards. Ouch!

My husband and I received a voucher for their set menu from our children. We booked the restaurant. First of all you have to secure your booking with a payment card, I don't like this. Secondly, you can cancel your reservation within 48 hours and receive no penalty, however after that you have to pay all of the cost if you cancel, I don't like this. My husband was very unwell the week running up to the booking, however, we thought (optimistically) that he would be OK on the day. Well that didn't happen and I had to ask a friend to join me at short notice or we would lose our present and the hard earned money paid for it. I wasn't going to do that even if I had to go on my own. I would not go with a company usually with these type of rules, its unnecessary, unexpected things do happen, however it was a present. The staff were excellent, friendly and very attentive. Personally, I don't think the food was worth £130 for two of us. The starter was good, dinner just about average however the cheesecake was excellent. Unlike a review previously we had tap water but we were not charged, and nor should you. I would not recommend the Garden House, you can get better food elsewhere cheaper.

Beautifully created dishes in a cosy laid back garden house. Good kids meals too. Cocktails are great and there even was a Christmas selection. Only drawback is that we have been multiple times been told off by a rude lady behind us to keep our 2 year olds quiet. In the end a waiter even came to enhance this message, however, this restaurant is not marketed as an adults-only one, so we would have appreciated it if the waiter had remained a neutral position. Left a little bad taste to our experience.

To sum up in one word: OVERRATED! I came for my 30th birthday with some family, with myself personally choosing this venue for the occasion due to its reputation and being more special than the average high street restaurant. Well, I wish I had booked one of those instead. The menu is extortionate and not worth what you eat. I felt embarrassed to have chosen this restaurant as I saw my family grimacing at the prices, and ordering starters for mains in an effort to save money. This meal was also my gift from my Mum and Sister, who felt terrible that we did not enjoy the experience and this my present. A friend also phoned ahead and paid for a glass of Prosecco as a birthday treat for myself, which the team delivered to me on the day. They did not state that my friend had purchased this, and instead took the credit themselves as offering me a complimentary drink. Therefore, I did not thank my friend and she felt embarrassed to ask if I received it. Overall, unless you have a lot of dosh to spend, I wouldn't recommend the restaurant here for any occasion, particularly a special one.

Not sure about the restaurant after we ordered a crab pasta dish which used egg noodles instead of spaghetti and being half asian I know the difference between egg noodles and spaghetti! And seeing how much we paid for the dinner, it’s a little shocking. They could have just told us they ran out of pasta and given us another dish. It’s a shame as the waitress that served us was lovely and setting is gorgeous. But the food was a let down. *UPDATE: Have reached out to you/the manager with no response*

We had the Burrata and Shallot tarte tatin as starters which were very tasty and well seasoned. The wild boar ragout with dumplings was the perfect cold weather dish and simply delicious. We were seated at the table closest to the entrance with an icy blast each time people entered/left. We asked to move and the waiter moved us to a table further down the conservatory, however there were people seated outside and we were opposite the entrance to their table, had the same issue and had to get up 3 times to close the door as it was left open. In the middle of November seating people by a door does not work. I did not mention again to staff as restaurant looked full and didn't want to create a fuss as I was being treated for my birthday. Food was good but was i was frozen and spoilt the whole experience. At this type of establishment the staff should have addressed the issue, they saw me having to repeatedly close the door.

Extremely average experience that was not worth the money. Having eaten at The Garden House many times before we were looking forward to sharing the experience with friends. Unfortunately the whole lunch was lacklustre and it felt like every aspect from the staff members who served us through to the food lacked the excellence we were hoping for. It genuinely felt like the chef was on holiday as our food was bland and uninspiring, and the service was slow. ‘Resting one one’s laurels’ might be the best descriptor for our experience.

Salad’s are usually good but they can’t ever cook a decent main dish. We’ve been there several times, the first time was super but it’s been awful ever since and £45 for one medium glass of wine? We feel like we’ve been scammed. We’ve NEVER paid such a fortune for such an utterly disappointing meal we left feeling deflated and ripped off.

Had lunch here last weekend. We had been looking forward to coming here for a while, and had been on our radar for some time. To be honest it’s ok, nothing to write home about. We were offered the sofa’s to sit on which at first looked nice but after 30 minutes we realised we would have been better off at a table with chairs. Nice selection of drinks, opted for a beer and two glasses of wine. Should have checked the price as the small glass of red was £35. My mistake. We were offered nibbles which we declined as opted for starters instead. Crab toast was nice. We then all had the pork main with some sides. It was a bit dry and on the overcooked side. The vegetables were ok, the carrots were a bit hard the mash potatoes were probably the stand out dish. As the main arrived we were bombarded by flies. Incessantly buzzing around us and sitting on the food. It was hot and the doors were open but this was more than the odd fly. Made for a very unpleasant dinning experience. TBH it was ok but not worth what we paid. Could have eaten better for half the price. It’s a nice setting and it’s in the Surrey hills but we will not return.

What an intersecting place to review! Id been looking forward to visiting here and dining in the Garden House for some time. The setting is idyllic and we started our evening with a cocktail or 2 in Franks Bar. It is beautiful. Service was attentive, atmosphere was great and the delightful waiter was friendly. I particularly was impressed with his flower arranging skills on the tables! Simple flowers picked from the gardens was an understated but elegant touch. We were taken to the garden room and seated immediately. Lovely serving staff and the interior design is relaxed and very pleasant. Please note some of the sofas at the tables are far too low and you are advised to sit on the scatter cushions to reach a comfortable table height! Most uncomfortable So…. to the food. What a disappointment. The menu reads well. Simple sounding food. I chose the burrata with strawberries to start. Way too sweet almost like a jam. 3 others had the crab on sourdough which seemed to go down well. One member of the party has the fishcake as his main course. It is seriously underwhelming. Very thin, greasy and inedible. For £32 for 1 fishcake it was a huge disappointment. 2 of us had the spaghetti vongole. A simple dish to prepare but hard to do well. I make it myself! It was oversalted, dry and the clams were the smallest I’d ever seen. I repeatedly had to remove fragments of broken shell from my mouth which is unforgivable in a dish such as this. We spoke to the manager re the appalling fishcake, who was very gracious about it and removed it from the bill after explaining to us that the Sous Chef was on duty!! The staff were lovely, that aspect of the evening was faultless. So my advice… if you are looking for fabulous food , this isn’t somewhere I’d return to. Now cocktails at Franks bar in the sunshine next time hopefully, I would love to do again ! Charging top end prices for very mediocre food is not a winning combination in this foodies eyes! The one plus point for me is that I wasn’t paying!! I may have been more vocal re the food had I been.

A total disappointment of a dinner. Considering the above average prices like something you'd see in a Michelin star gastropub in Bray, we expected a similar experience. On arrival a member of staff led us to a wobbly table, right next to fire extinguishers and next to a very busy staff area. So the whole night you get to experience the waiting staff squeeze past your chair which is great obviously. The chairs had bread crumbs on them which the waiter promptly brushed away with his hand, wonderful little detail that adds a lot of authenticity to the experience. The chairs themselves are amazing, you can clearly see deep indentations of countless buttcheeks that sat in them, probably dating to the time the place was opened. Maybe they are memory foam? Wonderful, fits like a glove. The menus are a scrambled mess of disorganised papers not connected in any way, leaving you with more paperwork at a dinner table than you probably get in an office. I ordered a 12 pound mocktail with a fancy name that ended up being just lime cordial and some lemonade. Exquisite. The starters were courgette salad and a crab on a brioche bread slice. Salad was honestly the best part of the whole dinner, simple yet tasty, maybe a bit bland but inoffensive. The crab was a complete disaster. The layer of crab was barely visible and brioche bread was tasteless. I did appreciate a single radish as a decoration on the plate, nice touch, goes really nicely with crab or rather a ghostly presence of it, a faint memory of it maybe. The mains were porchetta and a duck breast. Porchetta came to the table as if it was thrown into the deepest fires of hell, completely burnt, dry and oversalted. The skin was black in places, completely charred rather than being deliciously crispy. Cutting it with a table knife was a good workout though. The stuffing seemingly consisted of mashed black pepper and more salt. Really bad, I'd be embarrassed to let a dish go out to a customer like that. The duck was alright, a single breast cooked somewhat evenly with a bunch of random sides that don't enhance the taste of the meat at all, not terrible not great. The final bill was 170 for 2. Never again, save your money, go somewhere else. The waiting staff are all nice though

This is a lovely location accessed via a long drive through a beautiful golf course. The restaurant is nicely decorated and set in a kitchen garden. Service was friendly. The menu was somewhat limited as several dishes featured garlic and there was a focus on cold dishes/salads which was a shame on a cold evening. It was very expensive. We spent nearly £100 on what was essentially one three course meal shared between two people and no alcohol. The main dish did not come with any sides which for £40 including service is expensive for what it was. It would be helpful to review the menu in advance which we didn't do.

I honestly don't know where to start with this! I was taken to The Garden House by my daughter and son-in-law as a treat for Mothering Sunday. This, of course, made it impossible for me to complain on the night - it would have seemed so ungrateful as The Garden House is extremely expensive and my lovely children are by no means wealthy! The greeting, ambience, facilities, decor and staff were all great (bar one young man who said all the right things but had a sneering expression and distinctly gave the impression that he was far too good to be working there!). The menu, though, was very odd. Two of us are vegetarian, and one eats meat and fish. On the main menu there was really very little for the vegetarians, so we were offered the vegan menu. Most of the dishes listed there had hardly anything in the way of protein - in fact most of them were not really meals, as such, but rather combinations of different bits of food that did not seem to be natural companions for each other. I opted for the mushroom starter which came on a slice of bread and was garnished with truffle. The mushroom topping was perfectly pleasant but the slice of toasted bread was so hard (not burnt, just rock solid) around the edges that I had to leave all but the centre of the slice. My main also came from the vegan menu and was called a salad of roasted vegetables with grains (so I hoped for a little protein there). What I received was a pile of vegetables that had clearly been the lunchtime serving to accompany a classic Sunday roast dinner (perhaps Mothering Sunday lunch did not prove as popular as they had hoped!). There were four small roast potatoes, a couple of baby parsnips, some carrots and lots of assorted cabbage-type leaves. That was it. No grains. A mushroom gravy arrived after a short while; a little unimaginative, as I'd just finished a mushroom starter. None of the vegetables were seasoned (although this is far preferable, I think, than things arriving horribly over-salted). I'd really lost patience with the whole thing after two courses, but ordered a dessert as my daughter knows that I love pudding, and I didn't want her to know how very dull I thought the whole thing was (my daughter's food was equally odd; my son-in-law fared a little better with a crab pasta dish). Perhaps they just don't 'do' vegetarian food... My dessert was poached pear, ginger and lime, with coconut ice cream. The ginger was in the form of some kind of broken up pieces of cake that were partly powdery, partly cake-y and, largely, rock solid like the bread in my starter. I truly feared for my teeth at times. Again, it really didn't feel at all like a dish - just a random selection of ingredients thrown together on a plate. There was no sign of any lime. My daughter chose a millefeulle, but sadly the menu didn't say that it was deconstructed, as she would probably have chosen something else. She described the pastry as 'oily'. I didn't see how much the bill came to (thank God none of us drinks alcohol!) but having seen the prices on some of the menu items I can assure you that it absolutely was not worth it. Two additional points - we were not offered any bread for the table (which in my experience is very unusual for what is supposed to be a top class restaurant - perhaps it was all too hard to serve!), and the dessert menu is extremely limited. On reading the huge variety of reviews of The Garden House (mainly very good, or very bad, with little in the middle) I'm left wondering if they have two chefs and one's experience of eating with them depends entirely upon who's on duty. Never again! (My teeth still hurt!)

I chose the Garden House to celebrate a special occasion with friends, and it was an excellent decision. The staff are wonderful, the food is excellent and the drinks menu is extensive - I was designated driver, and can highly recommend the non-alcoholic cocktails.

An excellent experience from start to finish. A cosy bar area for pre or post dinner drinks & the restaurant itself has understated, comfortable interiors. Vegan food options were beautifully presented & full of flavour, there’s clearly a v talented passionate chef behind it all.

Paul and the team at the Bell were fantastic! Super accommodating and friendly team. We booked a baby shower and it was confirmed in minutes with the team we organised food that would be served and they set up a perfect area for us in the corner of the pub. We had originally tried to book at the Bear in oxshott who were making it an extreme task and were only allowing a two hour time slot along with a reservation fee! We are glad we then turned to The Bell who made it all super simple and a special day for us to remember without any hassle to organise. Lovely food and drinks and great service. Thanks everyone at the Bell!

I remember, think his name was Andy, guy with a beard who use to own this pub. We are talking about the late 80's. Great pub back then. Today, still a nice place. Pool table has gone.. Oh well but they did have football on so not is all lost. What happened to Andy?

We were here for a lunchtime wake with family and friends. Ben did a bespoke menu for us at a very competitive price. The food was lovely and fresh and guests also commented on how nice it was. I had no problem trusting that everything would be taken care of, it was all set out and ready on our arrival. It’s quite a small pub but we managed to fit in ok to the sectioned off area for our guests. There is also a pleasant outside area to sit should the weather be good. Would definitely go back under different circumstances to sample the menu.
