What an excellent family friendly pub with fantastic food, it was the best roast I have had in years. Going anywhere with an autistic child can be hard but the staff couldn’t do enough for us and made such an effort to make us feel welcome and at ease. The food was not only of an excellent quality, the beef melted on your mouth but the portion size was very generous as well. It was so cheap for what you got and was one of the best value meals I have ever had for the quality and size.

We were here for a lunchtime wake with family and friends. Ben did a bespoke menu for us at a very competitive price. The food was lovely and fresh and guests also commented on how nice it was. I had no problem trusting that everything would be taken care of, it was all set out and ready on our arrival. It’s quite a small pub but we managed to fit in ok to the sectioned off area for our guests. There is also a pleasant outside area to sit should the weather be good. Would definitely go back under different circumstances to sample the menu.

This is actually a pub called The Anchor. Excellent pub grub. Really tasty pies, enormous haddock, all at reasonable prices. Surrey Hills Ranmore Ale in top form. Was deservedly busy on an ordinary Wednesday lunchtime.

Since our last visit to The Hidden Kitchen at the Royal Oak, Bookham, it has moved to The Anchor pub in Lower Road. It is, however, hard to find any menus online, so we are posting this review under The Hidden Kitchen and The Anchor. Despite the food being 4*, we can only offer a 3* rating as service at The Anchor was very slow and less than enthusiastic. The Sunday roast was excellent and it was great to find chefs that had not attended the school of portion control! The Anchor is certainly a real pub and only appears to have a Facebook presence online and was popular, or even crowded, when we visited.

Meat was tough, you have to leave the restaurant to get drinks from the bar...Time limit of an hour. Wouldn't return and wouldn't recommend to anyone

Ben and his team could not have done more to make our early Christmas celebration with 18 friends a tremendous, enjoyable success. The food, service, ambiance and atmosphere could not have been better! Great to see a local restaurant doing so well. Highly recommended.

Bookham's best kept secret? Hopefully the secret's out though... The food continually exceeds expectations and the service is great. Even on a night when there were staffing issues, the Chef achieved the impossible, graciously serving and cooking! Please go and try it - you won't be disappointed.

Could this be the gastropub Bookham so desperately needs? Our first experience was very positive. We ordered classics: sausage and mash & fish and chips. Both were really well done. Will be back.

Went to the garden house for lunch. So beautiful and atmospheric, everybody was really welcoming and Phillipa was especially lovely, taking good care of us and informing us of the menu and specialities of the day. The beef ragu was delicious and the sticky toffee pudding was a great treat! Definitely worth it.

Fantastic service, sadly my husband had some of the blue label in his wine which went un noticed until we mentioned it and I had a large bone in a small fillet of seabass. There was no apology, just a response from thr head chef of oh, that sometimes happens. This made me feel that we were there at their behest, not enjoying a relaxed Anniversary celebration as was intended. The waitress referred to my husband and I as guys which wasnt appreciated. Some incredibly odd food pairings of black garlic in a petit four and castel blue cheese and German sausage on a plate of Highland venison. It is the most beautiful building but I have enjoyed better tasting food in other locations. Sadly not for me, an8d I am classically trained in food cookery.

Had a rubbish time at my Christmas Party. Especially a bald tattooed man behind the bar who assaulted one of my friends. He grabbed him by the throat and other staff members can attest too this. Horrible.

I remember, think his name was Andy, guy with a beard who use to own this pub. We are talking about the late 80's. Great pub back then. Today, still a nice place. Pool table has gone.. Oh well but they did have football on so not is all lost. What happened to Andy?
