Had a pub lunch with visiting overseas relatives. The small restaurant (called the Secret Kitchen) is a separate business from the Royal Oak pub. Separate staff and billing but sharing the same roof and access. An awkward arrangement if you want a drink with your food. They seemed to try hard and the quality of service and food were OK but not memorable. The atmosphere was a bit pokey and felt like stepping back in time 40 years. The Royal Oak's carpark requires caution. It is actually controlled by Initial Parking. I inadvertantly overstayed my pre-paid 2 hour ticket by 45 minutes and got hit with a £60 bill (reduced from £100 for quickpayment). My fault but it was enough to deter me from returning.

Stopped off for a quick burger around 7pm on a Friday and were very pleased with our impromptu dinner. Staff were lovely and since the restaurant was full we were offered an alternative place to sit outside. When an indoor table cancelled we were given the option to move indoors. Much appreciated! A good food recommendation given by the hostess too. Food was fresh, yummy and arrived quickly. Would happily come back if I was in the area again.

Hidden little gem …so fed up going out to so called gastro pubs and getting no more than heated up ready dinners. The Hidden Kitchen was a breathe of fresh air Yes the restaurant is small and maybe to some a little cramped but it adds to uniqueness Food was very good lovely king prawns in garlic , Indian chicken wings and baked Camembert followed by fresh battered fish and chips, duck breast, chicken in bacon with dauphinois and a very lovely obviously homemade cous cous with Cajun chicken. Wine list extremely well priced and fantastic service definitely be back

Having dropped in a couple of times recently, I am increasingly impressed by this little local gem of a pub! Aside from the complimentary roast turkey, pigs in blankets and roasties on the bar on Christas Eve afternoon, I was further impressed today ( 27th Dec.), when some ( non- local) customers dropped in, seeking lunch. Like most pubs today, food was not on offer, and most local eateries were closed. The ever-friendly Barbara, behind the bar, offered to provide crockery, cutlery and napkins if anyone wanted to buy some food from the adjacent Co-op. This was taken up by several grateful ( and rather surprised!) customers. Above and beyond hospitality!

Whilst exploring Bookham we stopped at The Hidden kitchen at the Royal Oak for an early dinner (5pm). It's a dainty little pub inside with very friendly staff. The restaurant was hidden at the back and was cosy. Ample parking and if you give them your car registration you can park for free whilst dining. The food was delicious and piping hot and not too pricey. There was one veggie option for mains but we went for good old fish and chips and a salmon with potatoes which was enjoyable, didn't have room for dessert by the end of it!

Ordered take away of shared platter serves 2 starter, 2 curries and garlic bread, nearly £40 (£39.50). Shared platter was plentiful but misleadingly priced at £5.00 but because it serves two cost £10 The two curries were very nice and tasted lovely but because rice is included, the cost has doubled to £12.50 each. Also the trays were only half full. Garlic Bread, where was it, when I got home the the bread was not included. Overpriced and lacking in quantity. An updated review from my last post 2 years ago- Having eaten here quite recently a couple of times the food offerings are not as good as previously,we were left very dissatisfied on our last visit my complaint fell on deaf ears. My biggest gripe though is the cask ale offerings, it's terrible, the selection never changes,It's either Clapham Bitter( who brews that) or Bath Gem. The managers says they can't put anything else on!!! With so many fantastic craft beers out there they are missing a trick. I'll be drinking in the Old Crown from now on or the Anchor!

Paul and the team at the Bell were fantastic! Super accommodating and friendly team. We booked a baby shower and it was confirmed in minutes with the team we organised food that would be served and they set up a perfect area for us in the corner of the pub. We had originally tried to book at the Bear in oxshott who were making it an extreme task and were only allowing a two hour time slot along with a reservation fee! We are glad we then turned to The Bell who made it all super simple and a special day for us to remember without any hassle to organise. Lovely food and drinks and great service. The King William IV is a very pretty pub, just off the A24 close to Mickleham. It was built in 1790 as an estate workers ale house for Cherkley Court, which now is Beaverbrook golf course. The building itself is quite unusual, being multi-level as it is built on the side of a steep hill. The garden is terraced and the stunning view up to Norbury Park, make it one of Surrey's most attractive beer gardens! They sell some excellent local beer in very good condition! I've not eaten there for a long time but from what I've seen going on with the food, it looks very good. Something I'm not a fan of, which puts me off going more often, is the mandatory table service. This is no reflection on the staff, who are swift and friendly but I'm a bit old fashioned and just don't like faff and people fussing over me. The pub doesn't have a lot of standing room, the bar itself is small and the staff get very busy with food service; so it makes perfect sense if it's a group or you're ordering food/getting repeat drinks orders during a meal, to be served at table. However, in my case, I'm just there for the beer, either solo or in a pair and would really prefer to just buy a pint or two at the bar at take a seat! Instead, you have to be seated and given a menu, then they return for your order, come back with the drink/s, turning into a forth visit with change, should you wish to pay with cash. Bit of a rigmarole for a pint! That's just my personal gripe but this is a lovely pub worth visiting!
