Douro Valley

Canvey Island South, Castle Point
10/04/2019: This is one of our favourite restaurants which we visit fairly regularly. We recently returned from a trip to Portugal and paid the Douro Valley a visit. The food is as good as we had in Portugal; authentic, tasty and plentiful. We went again with two friends on a very busy Saturday evening and the service was faultless.
03/04/2019: I last visited this restaurant in 2016, and I am pleased to say, the experience was even better than last time. We were a family of 8 with a 5.30p[m booking. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was tasty, plentiful and varied. My partner and I couldn't finish the excellent MISTA paella, so the leftover was boxed up and eaten the next day. We all enjoyed our meals, and the Portuguese custard tart was superb as was the Portuguese almond flavored trifle.

Green Tea Chinese Takeaway Benfleet

Cafe Max

St Mary's, Castle Point, <20£
14/04/2019: I love this place. Good food and plenty of choice. Lovely staff. Great outdoor area to catch the summer sun. Perfect.
03/04/2019: Went there today with my wife's Uncle and they made him feel very special.

The Labworth Restaurant

Canvey Island East, Castle Point
13/04/2019: Great food, amazing setting, can't wait to go back. Would recomend to anyone, birthday meal, really nice surprise.
06/04/2019: We had a really lovely evening for our first visit. The restaurant is fairly small which gives it a homely atmosphere, but tables are cleverly sited not too near one another. Overlooking the beach with sea views are a bonus. Service was impeccable with excellent food, beautifully presented and delivered without too long a wait. Would definitely return here.

Islanders Restaurant

Canvey Island South, Castle Point
13/04/2019: Food was average but very expensive for pie, chips and peas. Service was okay nothing special at all
19/03/2019: Have been here several times for lunch, and the food is good class. It is licensed if required and open in the evenings.

La Quinta

Boyce, Castle Point
13/04/2019: Visited as a party of females having paid £10 per person deposit for our meal and show. We were required to provide food orders for each person in advance. Our table was set for 1 less person than booked but this was quickly rectified and a complimentary drink provided for 1 of our party with apologies for the oversight. We were required to pay for the full outstanding balance upon arrival which meant there was no problem gathering funds at the end of the evening. All drinks were purchased and paid for at the bar. Bar prices were higher than pub prices which is to be expected. The staff at the bar were friendly and chatted whilst preparing drinks. All staff that presented our food were equally friendly and were well organised. The food was delicious and each of us thoroughly enjoyed our 3 course meal which included a vegetarian option. The show was a little less than expected, we found the music changed abruptly and there was no continuity in the performance but that said we all had great fun and would look to visiting again.
07/03/2019: Came with large group of friends for xmas night out. Food was preordered so no waiting for courses to arrive.

Latinos Restsurant & Tapas Bar

St James, Castle Point, 20-30£
19/04/2019: Had a lovely meal last night at Latinos in Hadleigh. As usual there was a great choice of food which was well presented. The waitresses were friendly and helpful and the food was served quickly. Will definitely come again.
14/04/2019: Good service, nice food but smaller portions, good section of wines, no real ale, well worth a visit.

The Labworth Beach Bistro

Canvey Island South, Castle Point, <20£
13/04/2019: Great food, service, clean, well presented and a great view of the Thames estuary. Sandwiches, chips, coffees and teas were all fresh and large portion size. Fishfinger ciabatta was really tasty, chips piping hot and cooked to perfection.
13/04/2019: The Labworth is situated right on the Thames Estuary on Canvey Island. It does get very busy during school holiday times and sometimes you have to wait for a table but it’s worth the wait. The staff are welcoming and friendly. The meals are excellent and they have a specials board that changes regularly. It is good value for money, the quality of the food is excellent. Prepared and cooked by the staff. It’s lovely to sit and eat your meal watching the ships come and go from Tilbury and the Thames Gateway Port.

Cafe Yemek

St James, Castle Point
28/03/2019: Used to love coastal bite and recognised the Yemek name from Hadleigh and the menu looked varied so gave it a try - was a wonderful lunch - we’ll be back ... but hope you will extend your evening hours for the summer ?
24/03/2019: This restaurant was previously Coastal Bite which was well known and loved by many. Sadly closed last year as the lovely owners left Southend to seek new adventures down in Devon. However it reopened this week as a Turkish restaurant and we popped in for a late afternoon coffee. The owner Serdar was charming and chatted to us for some time telling us all about his wonderful menu and how it’s all home made. So although I cannot yet comment on the food, we look forward to returning and sampling Serdars lovely looking menu in the near future and wish him every success ! J & D

St Mary's, Castle Point
14/04/2019: Lovely food, good atmosphere, very helpful and polite staff. Always a pleasure to eat here. Will continue to recommend to friends and family.
07/04/2019: Me and my partner visited Amala for the first time a few days ago. Our overall experience there was definitely 5*. The staff are so lovely and welcoming and the food is AMAZING! So glad my parents suggested Amala would definitely recommend!

The Oyster Fleet

Canvey Island North, Castle Point, 60-100£
19/01/2019: Ended up at The Ouster Fleet after a pretty awful day. Wasn’t expecting much having read reviews for the pub & accomidation but was pleasantly surprised.
03/01/2019: Stayed here earlier in the year and was very disappointed with the room. However had room 4 on this occasion and must say it was a vast improvement. Only criticism was that room was a bit on the chilly side but maybe me for not checking radiator thermostat.

The Oysterfleet Hotel, Restaurant & Bar

Canvey Island North, Castle Point
17/03/2019: Can’t rate the Carvery roast highly enough. The meat is always cooked to perfection and the veg is amazing especially the parsnips glazed in honey!!!
11/03/2019: Lovely hotel/bar/restaurant just off the town centre, good parking, lovely setting, and the food was great, with very good staff, and at a very competitive price range. We will be visiting regularly.

Tandoori Parlour

St Peter's, Castle Point
18/04/2019: My first time in this restaurant, it was lovely great service, great food and great atmosphere. Ja the waiter was particularly a great part of the service very polite and always smiling. I’m going again
18/04/2019: Couldn’t recommend this place enough! Went out of there way to make sure all my wedding guests had everything they needed! And went out of their way to cater to my dietary requirements! Generally amazing friendly people! Look forward to returning again in the future!

Barge Gladys

Boyce, Castle Point
09/04/2019: Frequently stop by in summer as it is great sitting outside. Barstaff and locals friendly (not sure why there are a few comments on here saying not so, I think people need to be a bit more open to the idea a non chain pub & get a bit more involved). Cash only but that's ok as long as you know before visiting as cash point is a good 5ish minute walk to station. Look forward to seeing you soon on next bike ride down.
09/04/2019: Came in here for much-needed liquid refreshment half-way round a hike from Southend to Canvey Island. The Barge sits there in the midst of Benfleet marina, which is a nice, old-fashioned marina, not one of those millionaire yacht parks. I assumed the bar would be on the upper deck, but, of course, barges are mainly below water, so it is in the hold of the barge and therefore windowless. This, curiously, gives it the feel of some underground club in London. The bar area is decorated with nautical bric-a-brac and interesting photos of old-time maritime life in the area. I was so thirsty I just drank lager, but noticed they do have a cask of real ale here too. So glad I've visited iconic Barge Gladys. It's a no brainer if you're walking that way. There's a beer garden out front, which must be a lovely place to drink in the summer.
