On my birthday, we always go to Akbars in York as it's my favourite Indian restaurant outside of Bradford. I was disappointed to find it is closed and I really couldn't decide where else I wanted to go. Living in Sherburn In Elmet I've been to most of the Indian restaurants in this area, and while they are all OK, I have never been blown away by any of them. I stumbled upon Jahan Lounge just through doing a Google search on local Indian restaurants and thought I'd chance it, and thank God I did. The restaurant is tucked away in Scarthingwell Golf Club. There is ample parking too, which is handy. you need to go upstairs in the club building to get to the restaurant. The restaurant is tastefully presented with a nice ambience, and there is a good selection of drinks for all at the bar. The food is literally to die for. It is up there with the best curries I have ever had. I had lamb chops for starters, which were perfectly cooked and so tasty. For my main, I had a keema karahi, which wasn't on the menu, but when I asked, the waiter said, " No problem, sir, we can make that for you" The curry is what blew me away. It is probably in the top three meals I've ever had in my life. The chef here is at the top of their game. If you like a good curry, this is the place to go. I am so glad I have found Jahan lounge because I no longer need to drive all the way to Bradford anymore, I have found a hidden gem right on our doorstep.

sadly disappointed with this venue The food was ok plenty of it Our biggest concern was it was so cold that we ate our lunch in our coats I know that energy bills are high at the moment...but some heating would of been nice....my phone suggested it was 13 degrees...im of the opinion if you are open for business then your customers should be happy with food....drinks....and warmth

5 of us (3 adults and 2 teenagers) went for Sunday lunch over the early May bank holiday weekend. Haven't been here for probably 2 years. I called to book quite last minute and they managed to get us a table. I then called back to add another person and they kindly managed to accommodate us. Obviously it was busy, it was bank holiday weekend! We were given a lovely table in the window. The staff were attentive and friendly. 3 of us had starters: prawn cocktail, pate and Yorkshires with gravy - all generous sizes and delicious. The roast beef was honestly the best I have eaten when out for a Sunday lunch (we generally stay at home as home cooked Sunday lunch is hard to beat but this was excellent). The veg was cooked perfectly and the cauliflower cheese was an unexpected and delicious bonus. Two of us had the small Sunday lunch and the portion was huge. My husband had fish n chips and said it was great. One of my daughters had a pizza, she's pretty fussy but said she'd really enjoyed it and the staff kindly offered to box it up so we could take it away. My other daughter had the children's portion of chicken goujons - again, big portion which she loved. Again, great to have extra options for the girls to choose from. I have just read the last review and wonder if they got the right place? I don't add many reviews but said, as we left, that I was going to add one as we'd all been impressed with the venue, the food, the service and the price. Goes without saying that we'll be back.

A Tuesday lunch time so only 2 other people in. The staff were friendly and attentive, but unfortunately the food was disappointing. The two chicken skewers were OK but there wasn’t much chicken likewise the salad. The flatbread was hard and only minimal fries. Not worth almost £19. The beef in the steak sandwich was gristly but the chips were good and the fish in the sandwich was greasy. Would I return- probably not.
