I'm writing this review 6 months after we visited (I'll explain why later). It's an absolutely beautiful location, love the whole ethos of the place and it felt really special when we turned up. Staff were great, not issues there. So why the 1 star? I'm vegetarian, and appreciate the veggie option is generally a token effort (especially at a place called 'the Pig'). There was basically one option for a main that I could eat, so I ordered that. I forget the name of it...but what arrived can only be described as baby food. It was literally a plate consisting of just pureed pumpkin. No doubt very fancy pureed pumpkin, but a plate of puree all the same. Thankfully I ordered some greens, and my husband lent me his chips to break up the monotony of this boring plate of slop, but at no point did the waitress suggest we order these. I said nothing on the day. It would have spoiled an otherwise lovely afternoon with my husband, in this lovely setting. But the confusion, disappointment and sense of insult over this meal has stayed with me, to the extent that today, 6 months later, I am still dwelling on it and angry about it and felt compelled to write. Now you might argue as a vegetarian I am not your target audience. But....my husband is. He is a meat loving, fine dining addict. He carefully researched where we would eat, and thought the locally sourced, foraging ethos of this place would appeal to me, and it did. We realised the menu was meat heavy, but we thought the chef must be good. Surely they have a decent vegetarian option. No. I got baby food. An insult. What I don't get is how these places fail to recognise that by delivering these vegetarian dishes made with minimum thought or effort, they not only lose their vegetarian customers, but also their meat loving partners. My husband was equally as confused and disgusted as I was. I think he was embarrassed. You really need to up your game and show us you are capable of creating a decent meal that doesn't involve meat. Or....maybe you can't?

Had a great pub stop over with our camper van. Louise and her team (family run) were very welcoming and friendly. The food was lovely. I had the seabass fillets with fresh vegetables Martin had the fresh fishfinger sandwich. We would definitely recommend the Spur . Great pub garden and the Morris dancers and Singers were an added bonus!!

We have dinner here at least once a mth since moving to the area 4 years ago. Very friendly staff , polite, attentive without being too much. Great food ! And a great price. You can even bring your dog in one side of the pub/restaurant which is handy if you have just been on a long walk and need to refuel. The garden is pretty especially in the summer. They also have a venue room I believe with skittles, and they hold classic car meets. Definitely worth a visit. Highly recommended the fish finger sandwich yummy. Very well done to all of you.

Very Disappointed. My partner and I had pre ordered a 3-course dinner from a set menu at this beautiful hotel for Valentine’s Day and were very excited about it. Upon arrival we were the first to be sat, and was told a glass of Prosecco and tap water will be arriving shortly. 25 Mins later our starter arrived, before our drinks. The starter tasted very bland and to be honest tasted like supermarket food. The BBQ sauce for the antipasti im pretty sure is just Heinz BBQ sauce. 10 mins into our starter our glass of Prosecco and tap water finally arrived. At this point there were only half a dozen of tables, not very busy. Our mains arrived promptly after, and were greeted with dry and bland chicken and fondant potato was just awful. Having finished our mains, the plates sat at the side of the table for about 30mins, no one came over to check on us or offer us any drinks. We then waited a further 20 mins for our desserts by which point we had ran out of patience and asked a waitress for the bill. Then a young chap dumps a jug or water on our table, despite already having one and then that same waitress brings us 1 of our 2 desserts, I assume to try and change our minds but having waited nearly an hour for just the desserts, enough was enough. We met a lovely couple who sat next to us who started to have them same problems we did. By this point the restaurant was full and the staff were working very hard but were lacking the basics of customer service. It seemed very unorganised and frantic. We got 50% of the bill but still doesn’t make up for a horrid time. I will stress this is solely based on the restaurant and not the hotel itself. Having worked in the industry myself I understand reviews like this aren’t pleasant, especially when you’ve worked hard but hopefully it will be used constructively.

We had the pleasure of having Sunday lunch at The Pig at Madehurst for the third time. It was by far the best experience yet and The Pig at Madehurst has clearly demonstrated it can offer a good experience ! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed to a warm and inviting atmosphere that made us feel right at home. The charm of the restaurant, coupled with its stunning surroundings, allowing us to sit on the sun drenched terrace overlooking the neighbouring panoramic fields. The sunshine and beautiful surroundings made our Sunday lunch a special experience. Each delicious course showcased the best of locally sourced ingredients. The flavours were vibrant and well-balanced. Most of all, we really enjoyed the selection of English wines that were available, and we made the most of
