Being frequent visitors of the Pig @ Bridge we had to come to the Pig in the South Downs - it did not disappoint. We came for dinner and the food was of the highest quality. We had a range of food from their pop corn fish to their pork loin. It was all delicious. The staff were friendly and engaging. We will definitely be back.

Absolutely outstanding service - the most friendly, helpful and generous staff my parter and I have ever met in a hotel/restaurant. We already loved the restaurant (and the service) which we had been to for dinner a few times already before we finally booked a stay in one of the cottage rooms. We felt properly looked after during our stay. The rooms are lovely, the restaurant is beautiful and has a stunning view and VERY good food. The kitchen garden is wonderful to walk around and the fact that the restaurant uses such fresh produce grown in the garden makes a real difference to the food quality. You definitely want to dine in when staying here. Breakfast didn't disappoint either. Also great to have a massage in rooms based in the kitchen garden! The surrounding area is also outstanding for nature lovers (even the grey weather didn't spoil the views). It is close to Arundel castle and cathedral which are worth a visit. We loved our stay at The Pig so much we have booked another stay already - this time in one of the wagons which look too wonderful not to try). Can't recommend The Pig highly enough. Special thank you to Rosie for looking after us Catherine Update after our latest trip the Pig (we have returned several times): We usually stay in the wonderful Garden Wagons (which include a fun outdoor shower - as well as an indoor one and bath of course) but this time we stayed in the Old Stable and WOW! Can't recommend this hotel enough. Exceptionally good and friendly service. We always feel well looked after when we go. The personal touches make such a difference. The food is always absurdly tasty with excellent wines and great advice from the Sommeliers on what to pair food with. Every little detail in the rooms has been thought through with great care. This includes the well stocked fridge, beautiful glasses and snacks (if you can eat any more after going to the restaurant!). Breakfast is a dream that we always look forward to. There is truly nothing we would change. We stayed there this week and have already booked our next trip for 2025! Thank you to all the wonderful team at the South Downs Pig - we can't wait to return!

Unfortunately we had a zero sleep night due to a very uncomfortable mattress/bed. Upon arrival we had been offered to upgrade to a wagon, but we weren’t looking for that sort of experience so we’d preferred to stay in our cozy room. My partner got up with back pain and it was a shame since we came here to get rest and since it’s a very expensive hotel. Lunch and dinner were good, although it would be nice to find more vegan mains, as all their few vegan options come with no proteins at all and it’s basically just veggies. The way to end our stay was to pay a £20 (!) taxi arranged by the hotel for a 5 mins drive with a rude taxi driver who didn’t greet us nor spoke to us, to the nearest train station. So overall, I wouldn’t pay again +£430 for a bed + two meals here. On a nicer note, We had a lovely Italian staff member who was supportive and friendly and gave us a complimentary breakfast due to the mattress inconvenience.

I love this Pig, such a gorgeous setting and lovely atmosphere. The staff are great and rooms are lovely. I do feel that since The Pig hotels have been sold on from their original owners some little touches have been dropped, such as freshly baked biscuits in the room on arrival, however the prices have shot up from what they used to be. The reason for not giving 5 stars is lack of facilities such as a pool and dinner although nice can sometimes be a bit average. But overall I love staying here and it’s a wonderful place to go.

Simply superb, beautiful location which was once derelict (I remember from my youth). From the moment of arrival until leaving I could not have asked for more. Food was great value and staff delightful. Perfectly relaxed atmosphere with unrushed service. We will return!

What an all-round classy experience. My husband booked us for my 50th birthday and it was perfect. A beautiful room, well appointed, rustic looking but very modern and everything worked. After a very hot few days it was wonderful to have air con! It was a lovely, casual and relaxed welcome and such a pretty setting. We sat and had drinks over-looking the vineyard in wooden lounge chairs which were discretely positioned so that you weren’t near others. The service was never obsequious but felt as though they treated you as they would have liked to be treated themselves - relaxed, informal but nothing was too much trouble. They seemed to instinctively know when to chat and when to leave us alone. Their beautiful and clearly abundant kitchen garden makes for a lovely scenic walk around and only encourages you to choose things on the menu like courgettes and other vegetables that you’ve seen growing. As for the food, it’s wonderful to see the map on the back of the menu which shows that all the produce used comes from suppliers within 25 miles. Everything tastes so fresh and is delicately cooked so that you can really taste the flavours. Our favourites were probably the eggs on toast, the courgettes, the chipolatas in mustard and honey and…as soon as I start to list them I realise that there were so many favourites over the weekend. They also did the best roast we’d ever tasted (the overnight rolled pork was incredibly tender and the roast potatoes were just like my grandmothers’ super crispy on the outside and fluffy and light on the inside). My husband is a restaurateur and usually finds restaurant roasts disappointing, he absolutely loved it. We had friends over for the dinner to celebrate and brought our own wine (corkage wasn’t too ridiculous and they were brilliant at cooling it and opening the red beforehand to breathe). It was such a fun evening, relaxed and full of laughter and everyone enjoyed the food. We probably should have been warned about the midnight deadline for departure as no one wanted to leave and we’d ordered their taxis for 12.30am but that was literally the only thing I would have changed. I can not recommend The Pig enough - they made me feel so special with lovely touches throughout the weekend - happy birthday desserts, biscuits and a hand written card in the room…everyone seemed aware that I was celebrating and made me feel like a celebrity for the weekend. A huge, huge thank you for an unforgettable 50th birthday stay.

We stayed at the Kitchen Garden Wagon for a few days. The wooden wagon is positioned in a large and picturesque kitchen garden surrounded by beautiful apple trees and vegetable beds. There is outdoor seating surrounded by thyme and lavender (the air smells amazing), and you basically feel like you are staying in a private, cosy cabin in the countryside. The interior is all woody and very aesthetically pleasing, and the room is really clean. In the morning, you wake up to a large variety of birds walking around the wagon in the mist. I saw swallows or house martins, partridges, pheasants, collared doves, etc. The atmosphere is very relaxing, perfect if you want to chill out away from the city. The hotel is located in such a pretty area that you can just walk out and go on some amazing walks in the woods and fields. The restaurant is also super good, using produce grown in the kitchen garden and very accommodating to vegan diets and food allergies (for both breakfast and other meals - plenty of vegan options). The people who work there are all extremely friendly & caring. We received a lovely garden veg basket on our last day with produce from the kitchen garden, which was sooo sweet!

Mid-week birthday lunch, 3 diners. Beautiful location and views, restaurant staff were polite, but that's where the wonder stops. Although the dining room is attractive, the chairs are incredibly uncomfortable. No reference made at all to birthday guest (despite being notified it was a 40th!) Love the local / farm to table idea, and a few nice looking menu items, but execution was poor - meat tough and undercooked (pork collar) - toast burnt and hidden to disguise. £28 for meat and sauce main - expected to order all additional items as £6 side dishes!!! Staff unable to answer simple menu questions up front, around vegetarian suitability as no reference made on menus at all (e.g. are the chips cooked in fat / does this tart contain gelatin?) No butter offered to accompany dry bread. Don't even get me started on the ridiculous conditions you must subscribe to if you wish to book a table for a small party of 10 on a mid-week evening (set menu, minimum table spend, huge non-refundable deposit.....) Went with high expectations but experience was overpriced & underwhelming, likely won't bother returning unfortunately.

10/10 food but massively let down by poor service - such a shame! We’d been looking forward to our lunch at The Pig for a very long time and while the food was pretty much faultless, we left feeling like completely unvalued guests (lack of checking in on us, weren’t offered any desserts, had to chase the bill twice, incorrect bill given, had to go up to pay, wine never topped up, etc.). So disappointed when the food and location/setting were so lovely!

Second time and again the food never fails to impress. My few gripes are trendy or not old mixture of knives and plates don't to me add any class. Looks horrid on the table and the food so deserves a better platform. Lovely attentive service, great food, lovely views. Location wise is lovely but beware the entry roads are full of pot holes. Value for money is well worth it.

We celebrated my son's anniversary with a family lunch for 10. I have to say it was absolutely great. We had a table for 10, plenty of room and were given plenty of time between courses. We all enjoyed the food and wine. The service was friendly and well judged. It is a cosy old restaurant with lots of atmosphere, much better than the many chains. We will definitely be back and heartily recommend.

Best pizza's I have eaten for a long time! Ordered a pizza from the special board which was recommend to me by Carl the Pizzaiolo specialist here. The pizza was sensational, bursting full of flavour and very filling . The hospitality when entering the restaurant from Gemma was warm and welcoming, staff were attentive and friendly and it really did make the whole experience very enjoyable. I will definitely visit here again with friends and family. I visited alone on this occasion but I would highly recommend this place for family and friends.
