Absolutely loved it here! Beautiful pub/delicious Sunday Lunch and friend said the Plaice was outstanding! Staff lovely and black treacle tart pud was yum! We will be back!

Beautifully kept pub with a fabulous chef! Hubby and I were passing through on a road trip, googled local places to eat and chose to try this one. Was a pleasant atmosphere, plenty of choices on the menu, friendly staff, dog friendly with clean toilets. Hubby chose hunters chicken and said it was the best he'd eaten. I had the vegan curry which was absolutely delicious. Ask for the separate vegetarian/vegan menu there's lots to choose from. Really pleased with our meal and will definitely return when in the area.

Sunday lunch set menu. A good variety of starters I could have eaten most of them. A nice selection of mains and desserts to die for. Good portions. Extremely well cooked, compliments to the chef. Good value too. Will definitely return

Went with a group of friends & we all enjoyed it so much, we went back the next night. Food was some of the best pub food I’ve had anywhere. I’m not a vegetarian but the butternut squash risotto came with spicy halloumi sticks, almonds, crispy kale and pomegranate and was delicious. The cauliflower cheese soup (a starter special) was absolutely wonderful. The second night I had the pork belly which is the best I’ve ever had. The chef here has the magic touch. The deserts were hard to choose between as they all sounded (& were) great. One of the best pubs I’ve discovered in a long time, really superb.

This is a great pub overlooking the Avisford Park Golf Course. The food as usual was lovely. Had Sunday lunch time menu of roast pork and partridge. Both dishes were excellent. Staff polite and attentive. Good price. As usual cannot fault. Never had a bad experience there.

Tucked out of the way, a beautifully presented pub with fine views over rural land and a golf course. Sat in their conservatory area, which is beautifully calm, bright and clean. Front of house staff are lovely. Food was excellent and well presented. On 29/09/24 I had their 3 course Sunday lunch, which is incredibly good value and highly recommended. Wine list was good, and I also took advantage of trying a glass of Sussex Tinwood sparkling wine with my entrée. It was a really lovely Sunday lunch.

I would like to say that the waiter and waitress were superb,,the food was superb but the Host was so rude to myself and my wife,,we hadn't even got through the door and this voice said NAME,, not a good evening or how are you just NAME,, I obviously told him he then grabbed the menu's and walked to the table put the menu on the table and left without a word,, you let your self down and your staff,, if we had driven ourselves we would have left but decided to get a taxi,, needless to say we won't be back,,not that you will care as your mannerism speaks volumes 🤬

Lovely evening with friends... the pub was fully booked and very busy but we were served quickly and the food was fresh and delicious. Attentive (but not over attentive) and friendly staff, great atmosphere. Totally reccomend and we will definitely be back. Lovely pub!

We had a Saturday afternoon late lunch which was delicious. Liver and bacon with mustard mash and veg for me, all cooked perfectly. And my partner had a stunning chicken fillet burger, which looked amazing!

Beautiful setting, lovely food and service. If the waiter had remembered I wanted two scotch eggs and if those eggs had been runny, it would have been fives all round.

This is a lovely gastropub tucked away, but with a gorgeous view of the neighbouring golf club. The staff are very friendly, the food was superb, and we had a really enjoyable visit. Definitely recommended.

A little hidden gem with lovely food and pleasant staff. The pub is very clean and tidy with nice decor. Well worth a trip but make sure you book a table. Definitely visit again when I am in the area.

I don't often leave reviews. However, the meal we had last night was exceptional. Each course was divine, and everyone cleared their plates. I had the pork belly, which was the best I've ever had in any restaurant. I've also been for Sunday lunch recently as well, and that was amazing as well. It's definitely worth a visit.

Amazing food, beautiful views, friendly staff and outstanding customer service.

The only downside is that there isn't a baby changing area. The Sunday roast was delicious and sizeable!

We had a great meal with my sisters and there other halves brilliant food service and atmosphere and views across the valley what more can you ask for.

Had dinner here mid-week and would highly recommend it. We sat in the new extension at the back, overlooking the golf course. Food was delicious and well presented, and service and surroundings were perfect. The iced mascarpone coffee and amaretti parfait was one of the best desserts I’ve tasted. It’s a lovely spot for lunch on a beautiful sunny day, seated in the garden.

My wife said 'it was the best meal she had had in a long time' and I found it very good. We do not usually manage 3 courses but this was worth the effort. The dining areas have very nice views over the adjacent golf course and have a very good ambiance. It was a relaxing evening with good service. My only reservation was the price of the beer/lager we had. Definitely visit again. Second visit - rather brusque reception on arrival but the waitresses were lovely. This time not so impressed with food - burger, steak and pork belly scored 7 out of 10 each. Soft drinks only, reasonable prices. Ambiance and Outlook very good.

Lovely dog friendly pub with very pretty garden and great views. Lovely for a drink in the sunshine. Drink selection is good and well priced. Haven’t had a full meal here but the chips were great! Parking is readily available and the staff are friendly. Great place to stop after a dog walk in Binstead Woods!

Recommended by a friend who obviously have left a last impression on them. I seconded her opinion and glad to be served by friendly and efficient staff. Food were amazing. Good variety of food to choose from. Very clean and great view. Everyone agrees the food and desserts were tasty. Will definitely come back again.

Lovely Pub in the country with stunning views. Beautifully decorated and furnished. Great food with a few specials and changing menu and very friendly and helpful staff. Have been a few times now and it hasn't disappointed. Need to try their roast dinners next

A delightful gastro pub that really is a gastro pub. Yes it's at the slightly pricer end of the non Michelin star gastro pubs, but in my opinion it's worth every penny. Staff were attentive , the main dining area was a lovely conservatory type room at the back of the pub, with comfortable chairs , plenty of space between tables and lovely views out of the large glass sliding doors. The menu has good classics such as fish and chips , alongside more adventurous dishes. Definitely something for everyone. The food was fantastic, with perfect portion sizes and lovely quality ingredients. This place is worth a trip out to.

Parking spaces limited. The pub itself is ok, largely given over to a modern dining area. The service was good but the good was a little disappointing. The sharing fish plates were mainly over battered and over cooked frozen prawns and octopus with a small slices of salmon. The whitebait was breaded and from a packet in the freezer too. The duck was very good but the steak pie was fairly mediocre. The moules frites was ok but a couple of the muscles were cold. Good chips. Really I think food in pubs needs to be of a very high standard. Sourced locally and perfectly cooked. We felt a little let down by the quality of the food and we won’t go again.

Table for two. Superb waitress. Baked brie starter and then steak, Guinness and mushroom pie. Dauphinoise potato. All superb. No room for desert.

I Had Sunday lunch with family party of 8 plus two children. Food was lovely pork belly was a little dry but roast potatoes where crispy and fluffy in middle. I had brioche bread and butter pudding which was to die for!!! Definitely recommend this place!!

Shame some inconsiderate smokers had to puff away just outside the patio doors so their smoke came straight indoors where people were eating...

We went to celebrate my birthday and because they had lamb on their menu, unlike some other restaurants. Ended up having game stew 😋. Was very busy, but we had great service . Food was fantastic. Definitely reccomend and are looking to book again.

We had a really memorable meal here today. Excellent table, with great view over the valley & golf course, first-class service, and brilliant food. We had the shared fish platter as a starter, which set us up for the excellent moule marineres, then we had to find room for dessert, and that was equally good with mouth-watering choice. All round top notch - it could not have been better!

Excellent place for a family get together. Parking is limited, though.

A beautiful location for lunch. The pub is very pretty, and both the outside and inside eating areas are clean and comfortable—everything looks new. The menu is varied, with vegetarian options. The meal was well presented (though I chose badly and my meal was too rich, so I couldn’t finish it). The service was very friendly and efficient. There were several dogs in the outside area, and I noticed they were given bowls of water. (Not sure if they are allowed inside.) The washrooms were clean and supplied with soap and hand lotion. This is an excellent place to meet for a leisurely lunch with a friend. It’s quite pricey for a pub, but definitely worth a visit and I hope to return another day.

Please put prices on vegan menu! Great choice but slightly disappointing Salad... No tomatoes or avacado.. A lot of lettuce for a lot of money...

Superb! Genuinely 5 Star. Food was brilliant. Lots of choices for starters, mains & dessert. Lovely light & airy dining room, fab garden with view over valley beyond. We came for a midweek lunch. Duck & Scallops for the main courses while cherry frangipane & chocolate rum truffle cake for dessert. OMG! The food was delicious from the first bite to the last. Service was excellent too, friendly and accommodating. All that you want from a friendly eatery. Highly recommend. Book to avoid disappointment. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The food at The Black Horse really is first class. A varied menu makes it difficult to decide but we chose Duck Breast and Lamb Cutlets. Both were very tender and wonderful flavour. Cannot wait to go back

Love this place. Come here for a treat every so often. It's not the cheapest of restaurants, but you get what you pay for. The views in the conservatory are beautiful. The seating is comfortable. The wines are good. Food is amazing.

Great meal in a beautiful spot we came a year ago and the return visit didn't disappoint highly recommended!

Family get together for 6 people. The food was as good as it gets. Everyone was delighted with their food. My lamb was tender and delicious. The service was perfect, friendly not overbearing. We sat inside today but the garden and view is fabulous. Highly recommended. Go you won’t be disappointed.

A bit disappointed really, beautiful area and lovely pub but the food was not great. Husband had pie which was more anemic than coloured and not bursting with meat or flavour, I had chicken which was pretty tasteless the veg we shared was mostly carrot with one broccoli spear and a stem. Friends shared a seafood platter that was lazy at best!!!!

Very good food and service. Bit noisey but there were a couple of larger group's. And parking is very limited.

This is by far our favourite place to eat...Clive and his team are absolutely brilliant and the food gorgeous. The icing on the cake is the stunning view across the back. Garden wonderful too. Can't fault it, you won't be disappointed!! 😀

Great roast dinner on a Sunday...

To be honest I’ve been disappointed…. I’ve booked for my birthday for the first time in The black Horse since I’ve seen the pictures of the nice veranda online.. though we would get one of these tables but they booked us a table inside in the dark… that’s not what we wanted. We told them but they did not really care and said the tables in the veranda were all booked. Well, we also booked. They should ask where we would like to be seated when we book’ specially when we dont know the place. The food was not amazing, but still a nice atmosphere for a sunday lunch.

Went for lunch, great table looking out to the golf club. The service was fantastic we were well looked after, and we will definitely visit here again. They allow dogs, and the seating outside is great. Inside the bar is fresh and new. I wish I wasn't driving as the half Peroni I had was delicious. Thanks for a lovely afternoon

Haven’t been here for eleven years since we lived in the area. Been twice this week. What a transformation, Staff so welcoming, lots of choice on the menu & food to die for! Will be back next year.

This is a popular pub/restaurant where the standards are high. The menu offers a good range of meals and the staff are professional and attentive. The pub has a lovely setting with fantastic views.

Roast Belly pork was absolutely delicious and the crackling was very crispy. Generous portion sizes and plenty of vegetables for everyone. Lovely views from the conservatory x

A family sunday lunch. Dropped in Tables sat down menu provided 2 course menu roast £30. Seemed a vast amount for Sunday lunch a d Should have said no really bigcost. Lunch was nice not enough to fill our son up. Beautiful view maybe need another go to see

First time to the Black Horse. Great views. Fantastic menu and food. Relaxing atmosphere. Staff very good. Left us long enough to look through the menu and attentative throughout!! Only took desert photo. Forgot to take starter of whitebait and main course of haddock, mushy peas , chips and tartar sauce...... Wasn't the cheapest but definitely going back to sample more of the menu.....

All good was fantastic. One thing I wasn’t prepared for when I went to pay the bill they had added a service charge which ended up being £20 and we had already left a big tip on the table

The whole team here are lovely and adaptable. They hadn't been prewarmed about my allergies but were brilliantly flexible and I had a fantastic meal.

Food good Service not to bad But it would have been nice for some one to have apologize or a free drink for tipping mint sauce all over my shirt and trousers But I will go back one day maybe 🤔

Fantastic Sunday lunch. Had roast beef and pork belly. Vegetables perfect and flavours of the whole meals were fabulous. Good selection of desserts which just as delicious. Prices are reasonable. Staff friendly and attentive. Cannot fault anything about the visit to the pub today. Would thoroughly recommend a visit.

Visited mid-week for an evening meal. Found the staff to be friendly and they provided great service. The food we had was excellent, well presented, and came with a good selection of veg. We really enjoyed our visit and would revisit if in the area again.

We went here for Valentine’s Day lunch, we had not heard about this pub from anyone that we knew so did not really know what to expect but we’re very pleasantly surprised. The pub has a beautiful outlook from the conservatory style dining area, the views across the golf course and countryside is stunning. We had the baked Camembert as a starter which was delicious. For the main course I went for the pork belly and my valentine had the filo chicken pie. Both dishes were well cooked and tasted as good as they looked. We were made to feel welcome by the team, the service was friendly efficient and professional. One of the best meals out that we have had on this trip, we will definitely visit again on our next trick to the UK. Highly recommended.

Lovely country pub, the owners/staff are welcoming and go the extra mile for their clients. We loved the food: freshly cooked, high quality ingredients, great presentation. Went there in the evening and looking forward to come during day time to see the lovely views.
