The best restaurants serving British food in Hengoed Carmarthenshire West Wales

We were a group of Irish, 12 in total, I contacted the reception a number of weeks prior to our dining to make the reservation. They were very helpful & friendly on the phone & confirmed that they would seat us in one group in a perfect location. On arrival the were most friendly & welcoming. Menu was extensive. reasonably priced with large selection of wines. The whole dining experience was top class.

The breakfast I ordered was poor quality and wasn't very hot. The latter was very nice but not hot enough and it came out 10mins before the breakfast. Though it states it is dog friendly I got a dog jumping up as I was trying to eat my breakfast. Overall not a nice breakfast. I also found it expensive for the size and quality of my food.

We sometimes stay at the hotel and have now tried eating at the restaurant twice. On both occasions we have been sorely disappointed. We had lunch there today and tried a mushroom tagliatelle served with garlic bread. The foods not cheap at 15 quid a go and we were expecting something decent. The first issue was that my garlic bread was cremated so I sent it back. Secondly the whole plate was so bland it was almost tasteless. If you are serving a pasta dish with mushrooms at its centre it needs to sing with the rich taste and interesting textures of mushroom, it needs to be well seasoned, it can be so very good. This dish was none if those things. I did say to the restaurant staff that it was pretty underwhelming but they seemed fairly blasé about the fact. In most good restaurants such poor feedback would illicit serious concern and possibly the attention of a restaurant manager, not so in the copperplate. I can only assume that they care little about the quality of their offering or there is no process for dealing with complaints. Considering a three course meal for two with a bottle of plonk is going to run to three digits in this place it’s really not good enough and I could not recommend.

Had a very pleasant afternoon in the sandpiper recently. Took the kids into play and a lovely lady called Jane served us. A very pleasant lady and was very attentive and helpful. Food was ok .. the place does need a serious revamp though. Stuck in the 90's😀..

Great spot with exceptional service. Charlie the waitress was helpful, friendly and courteous. Will be back again very soon!

Had amazing time today with family for the festive Food was hot and all brought out together. Kirsty and katie was so helpful. Will definitely be returning.
