We sometimes stay at the hotel and have now tried eating at the restaurant twice. On both occasions we have been sorely disappointed. We had lunch there today and tried a mushroom tagliatelle served with garlic bread. The foods not cheap at 15 quid a go and we were expecting something decent. The first issue was that my garlic bread was cremated so I sent it back. Secondly the whole plate was so bland it was almost tasteless. If you are serving a pasta dish with mushrooms at its centre it needs to sing with the rich taste and interesting textures of mushroom, it needs to be well seasoned, it can be so very good. This dish was none if those things. I did say to the restaurant staff that it was pretty underwhelming but they seemed fairly blasé about the fact. In most good restaurants such poor feedback would illicit serious concern and possibly the attention of a restaurant manager, not so in the copperplate. I can only assume that they care little about the quality of their offering or there is no process for dealing with complaints. Considering a three course meal for two with a bottle of plonk is going to run to three digits in this place it’s really not good enough and I could not recommend.

We’ve had a few dishes here, the food is well cooked and well presented but you can’t help but feel it’s a bit brake brothers. The tomatoes lack colour and taste, they’re probably grown in a factory the burgers have been frozen before. The chef is very capable but not passionate about the ingredients. They got a fantastic venue I just feel they’re sticking to basics without trying to reach the near top. They charge £7 for three tiny slivers of cheese. I think they should think about fresh herbs some local meat and fresh local fish.

Arrived at the restaurant before the time booked. Table was ready and we were shown to our seat. Within 2 minutes of sitting, we were asked if we were ready to order. We said we weren’t, however 5 minutes later the waitress came back. When ordering 3 people were having steak and we were asked what sauce we would like, we told her. 1 person asked for egg with the gammon, the waitress said you can have 2 eggs as you’re not having pineapple. Starters were fine. Main meal was disappointing, steak was overcooked - no steak knives. Gammon came, only 1 egg not 2. Sauces never arrived. Asked the waitress about the sauces, she replied what sauces? A waiter, then offered complimentary tea and coffee. This to me is a kind gesture, however very disappointing. It seemed as if there were a lot of customers and not enough staff. Staff didn’t have time for customers. Certainly won’t be rushing back.

Our party of four decided to book here and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The hotel is modern, light and airy with great sea views. The waiting staff were very friendly and attentive and the most important part the food, it was delicious with plenty of choice to suit everyone. The sautéed garlic mushrooms and BBQ ribs were particularly tasty starters. The sirloin steak was cooked perfectly as was the butterfly garlic chicken for main.to finished we were spoilt with the best chocolate brownie and ice cream ever, as well as a sticky toffee pudding to die for and the perfect lemon cheesecake with clotted cream. The atmosphere was lovely and the waiting staff couldn't do enough for us, even bringing a strawberry for my cocktail, even though I asked for a straw! We will definitely dine here again.

Came as a birthday treat but will not visit again. Starters of button mushrooms had a herb sauce but had to ask for a spoon to scoop it up while the rissoles had very little corned beef in them! The main of lamb tagine was not of the Morroccan style that we expected with white cous cous - and yes as it states it had very little spice in the dish.

Decided to book a table for my husbands birthday August 31st. On arrival we were shown to our table of choice ,menus were put on the table ready to view , we then proceeded to take a drink outside to wait for the rest of the party to arrive .On our return our table had been given to four other customers !!!! I was absolutely amazed that a place of 4* standards do not have reservation signs put on tables. The starter portion sizes need attention not enough bread for the amount of pate, the duo of rissoles needed seasoning and should have been a little more dainty for a starter. It is Not always the quantity .The chips were not homemade .no extra sauce was offered with the fishcakes dish ,the diane sauce had split .had to ask for steak knives as none were brought to the table . £24 for a mixed grill and not a sausage in sight!!!!

Myself and husband came here for a meal. The young girl that served us was lovely but unfortunately had no knowledge of the beers available and even gave a knife and fork in preparation for soup and didn’t know what the soup of the day was, side from that she was very friendly and pleasant enough. For starters I ordered the duo of homemade rissoles with chutney and hubby ordered soup. Both were lovely, my rissoles were gorgeous, however hubbys toast with the soup was on the slightly burnt side. For mains I had the lamb tagine which was lovely, loads of lamb in it and a really good sized portion which I didn’t manage to finish I was so full. Hubby had the mixed grill, his steak was a bit under a medium and more like a medium rare but he still enjoyed it w S the rest was lovely.

Visited here as a group of 16, we provided the restaurant with a pre order to help matters. Restaurant is modern, smart and inviting.Staff were professional, friendly and organised. Food was as I titled, just OK. Majority of us had steaks which were tasty but would have been nicer/better if they have some sort of veg like some peas. Mixed grill appeared small for the price which we were disappointed with, neither did they come with onions rings which we found strange as the mixed grill did so. Faggots, we would not recommend at all, difficult to cut and a strong liver taste. Majority of us had puddings, tasty cheese cake and sundae but the brownie was a let down dry and crunchy. We enjoyed our time at the restaurant and if a staff member would have asked if everything was OK at the time I would have shared this with them but we were not asked. Not sure if we would go back but it is a nice restaurant

Staying at Stradey Park hotel for four nights, arrived late in day, decided to stay in and eat in the hotel restaurant. Very enjoyable dining experience, semi fine dining with good Welsh local produce selections on the menu. Great choices with something for both vegetarian's and Gluten free folk. Good and extensive wine list, fairly pricey. We all chose the 3 course menu and shared the starters to get several tastes . They were all very good - the Rissoles and Tart were very good. The confit Duck main was good. Only one issue with my Pork belly, was the skin wasn' t crispy. However the Panna Cotta , Souffle and Tart Tartin capped of a great meal , enjoyed by all. Price wise at the upper end of the scale , the ambience , setting with great views over Llanelli even at night and with some well versed table service by several of our waitresses it was well justified. Once in a while it's good to treat oneself with a good dining experience such as Samphire's did for us the night we dined there. I' m sure it will do the same for others.

Arrived at the hotel after 4 hours of driving and a round of Links golf up the coast at Aberdovey. I ordered a rare Sirloin 8 Oz. steak and it was exceptional, done to perfection. Gotta love that farm to table mentality. Being from Canada, we are use to eating 12, 16 or even 20 oz. steaks, but this was plenty to eat, and it didn't shrivel up since it was cooked as it should be. A glass of Merlot, a salad with mushrooms and fresh tomatoes, and the ever popular U.K. Chips rounded out the meal nicely. The was a large screen TV with Liverpool playing football with somebody to enhance the atmosphere. The staff were keen to please, and chased down answers to my wife's questions. A pleasant surprise.

The food: I had the smoked salmon starter. The hollandaise was more like mayonnaise than anything else, far too thick, far too much and just overpowering the whole dish. The billini it came on was awful, fridge cold with an unpleasant texture. The poached egg was hard. Surely cooking basics on an eggs benedict type dish? My partners terrine was nice but the bread was not fresh. Not a good start. My sea bass which is written as 'crisp' sea bass on the menu, was soggy and far from crisp. Probably due to the fact that it was served covered in a silver dome, a very strange decision in my opinion. The dish was tasty and was the highlight of the meal. My partners belly pork was also reasonably enjoyable. For dessert we had the cold soufflé and the tarte tartin. Both really disappointing and we didn't even finish them. The soufflé was basically a cream mousse, and the tarte was soggy and tasteless. The service: the staff are very friendly and attentive and help to make you feel relaxed. Overall, I would definately not return to eat here, a fairly pricey menu that reads well and promises so much but really does not deliver.

During the course of 6 nights stay at the hotel we ate at the restaurant twice. On both occasions the food was excellent. We had three courses both times and for £26.50 this was great VFM. having read other reviews we can relate to the one that said the menu was limited; we do not know how often the menu changes and some variety over the course of the week may be a good idea. Picking up on the manager's comment about pudding wine at £17.50 for a half bottle we are not surprised that sales are slow. Had the wine been available by the glass we would certainly have had one with the excellent ice cream. Turning to the service on the first (Saturday night) it was excellent, the highlight being the sommelier, Nick. On the second night the service was less good, however I was able to change my pudding order at the last minute, after they had started to prepare it. Overall, a highly recommended restaurant.

I had heard and read great things about Sapphires Restaurant but we were really disappointed. I had booked for my partners Birthday treat, we had booked in advance and had looked at the menu online. When we arrived, although the greeting and service was great (couldn't fault that), we were given a very stripped down menu, a choice of three meals...that was it. We were offered the bar menu but I really hadn't booked for a "bar meal". The starter (brie) was cold and rubbery. The main (salmon) was cold and tasteless and badly cooked. We decided not to have the dessert and left! We had a coffee in another area of the hotel and from what I could see form the bar meals, they looked 100 times better than ours. I was bitterly disappointed, we had travelled an hour to get there, and left feeling hungry.

I have to say I normally avoid hotel restaurants but we booked a table here because most of Llanelli's good restaurants seem to have decided that no one wants to eat out on a Sunday evening. I'm so glad we did.We had a warm welcome from an attentive waiter who showed us to a table by the window where we had superb views across to the Gower.A jug of iced water arrived with the menus and we had some lovely bread to dip into olive oil.We also ordered a bottle of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc which was excellent. We had thai prawn and salmon fish cakes for starters, served with cauliflower puree and turmeric pickle. The cakes were delicious but could have done with a little more chilli to give them a bit more of a bite. For the main course my wife had braised rump of lamb with red cabbage, pureed potato mushroom jus. This was served with some green beans. The lamb was beautifully tender. She asked for some additional vegetables and a medley arrived promptly. I had pork medallions served with orange and sage tagliatelle and a madeira jus. Again, all beautifully cooked and presented. For dessert we had salted caramel chocolate torte with vanilla ice-cream and green tea and vanilla panna cotta with orange tuile biscuits, both beautifully presented. The service was first class, attentive without being overbearing. Do I have any gripes? Just one. They really should offer dessert wine by the glass. We would have loved a glass each with the dessert but were not willing to buy a half bottle. All in all a memorable experience in a restaurant with a lovely ambience. Called in for an evening meal on spec. Greeted with a great smile and small talk, then showed to our table and presented with the menus and our drinks. Our starters arrived within ten minutes consisting of wild mushroom terrine and a bowl of "local" asparagus soup, hot but rather bland. The two mains consisted of mixed grill which was large and filling but let down by the "locally" caught fillets of sea bass which certainly were overcooked and totally lacked any flavour. The restaurant being only half full, still took more than twenty minutes between courses -- prehaps this is the reason that my fish was overcooked due to waiting? The service was quite attentive but relaxed. The menu, whilst well written to tempt the palate failed to deliver to its full potential.

I. with two friends ate here on a weekday night with the restaurant less than half full and had to wait 40 minutes for the main course to arrive. When it did, mine a lamb shank was very badly overcooked-it was almost grey,my friends fish pie was far too dry as was my other friends pork tenderloin. The mince sauce arrived after another 10 minutes etc. etc.My starter advertised as Brecon salmon was farmed and fatty. The staff were very nice and we got a discount after spending some time with the duty manager but it was scant compensation for a ruined evening.

Celebrated a family birthday at Samphires. Staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating. Food excellent on the whole. Menu varied and reasonably priced for a good quality restaurant One main course did not live up to expectation but this was swiftly changed to an alternative with no fuss and no additional cost. Would definitely visit again.

I was terribly disappointed with our meal at samphires. The main of pork tasted like it had not been seasoned at all.The cheesecake was nothing short of awful and for the first time in my life I could not eat a dessert. Service was ok but they obviously run the place using youngsters who dont have much of a clue. My issue with dessert was ignored and I had to ask to have it removed from the bill.Needless to say I will never EVER return!

Dined at Samphires during stay at Stradey Park Hotel. Four of us dined to celebrate my brothers birthday. Use this restaurant whenever in the area. Service is always very good. Menu changes seasonally and is always very interesting and inventive. The quality of the food is excellent. at £26-50 for 3 courses I can only describe the experience as FINE DINING AT A BARGAIN PRICE.

Comfortable yet stylish surrounding, very friendly and informative service, and a good meal to boot.My wife and I skipped starters and went straight to the entrees, she with the belly port in Welsh cider and me with the trout (I forget all the details but it was delicious, albeit a bit of a small portion), with ice cream and cherry & pear pudding, respectively, for dessert. Bit surprised to find cocktail cherries in my dessert...The prices, though, were well out of whack - £25 for a steak!

Booked a private room for 12 cover Lunch to celebrate Father's 90th Birthday. Room was well laid out with plenty of space. Our room host, Nick, was attentive and very efficient, he managed the order taking and the service of drinks and food perfectly. One of our guests was a wheelchair user and disabled access to the venue is good.We all ate off the set Menu and only had Main Course and Dessert. The Menu was no extensive, but had a really good selection of dishes with a choice of 4 Mains and 4 Desserts featuring locally sourced ingredients. The food was well presented, hot and very tasty and the meal was enjoyed by everyone. I would however, make a couple of observationsThe Chicken, Pigeon and Rabbit Forestiere was seved with Puy Lentils and Green Beans. This was a nice combination of flavours although the Pigeon breast was a bit overcooked and had gone tough, there was also no sauce or jus so the only moisture was from the lentilsSome of the Cod dishes were also slightly overcooked and dry.All in all these are minor criticisms and we all enjoyed the occasion We paid under £15 a head for 2 courses which was really good value for money and a perfect way to celebrate a milestone birthday.

Went here today for lunch expecting good things but unfortunately it was quite dissapointing. I have to say up front that the staff were very polite and friendly, no issues there and the restaurant itself was very nice, but the food was not worth the price paid especially the dessert which was meant to be a steamed pudding but must have been microwaved as it was burnt in the centre and I couldn't get my spoon through it. Such a shame.

i am a scarlet [Llanelli], my mate is an osprey [Swansea] , he lives down the road from "llaneli" and never visits , as out joint business is close we finaly persuaded him and his lady to come out to dinner and chose the samphires , by the time we had finished he was trying to covince me it had been his idea all along and that samphires was an example of everything that was good about south west wales.the management have chosen to make the menue as welsh as they can [quite right as well] and the food itself was reason enough to visit [delicious] add to that great and chearfull service from some lovely people , a delightfull setting with spectacular veiws over the gower and you have a winner all round , well done guys and girls

Was in LLanelli for a weekend and decided to book a table at Samphires for the Friday evening. We have eaten there previously so our expectations were high and we were not in the slightest disappointed. We both had three courses and payed less than £25 per head. the quality of the food and the service is faultless. Enjoyed the evening so much that we booked again for the Sunday evening and again were very impressed. Wine list is also very reasonable.

Went to Samphires Restaurant for lunch on Mothering Sunday. The location is nice and the overall atmosphere is pleasant, however the carvery lunch did not match up to this; the quality of the meat was average, the Yorkshire pudding very dry and tasteless, some of the vegetables were overcooked and puddings were poor. For a restaurant that advertises on the basis of quality locally sourced produce the food preparation badly let it down. Perhaps our expectations should not have been high for a carvery, but at £20 a head (we had two courses each) it was well below par!

I couldn't believe the quality of the meal at such reasonable cost. A set 3 course lunch was £13.95 - 1 and 2 courses available obviously for less. You'd be easily paying £25 upwards for anything like it in well known top restaurants in Swansea. On top of that the dining room is tastefully furnished and the whole hotel has an ambience I haven't come across for a long time. The staff go well out of their way to make your visit enjoyable. Can't wait to go back.

This was a great spot for lunch! We stopped off on spec and I was pleased to see vegan options. I had the vegan burger which was lovely. My parents had the chicken burger and the gammon, and they were equally pleased with the food, the portions and the service. I also had a vegan crumble tart with custard which was delicious! Overall a very pleasant experience, although prices were a little on the high side.

Brilliant seafood starters. Cosy atmosphere and great service. Varied menu encompassing Welsh specialities and tasty pub grub, nice cold beer and soft drinks. Definitely recommend the chips as they are very crispy. Mushy peas with a twist. We enjoyed our meal in the secluded den watched over by a giant grizzly bear. A must visit if you are in the area!

Stopped off here for lunch with my elderly mum and was pleasantly surprised. Whilst the seating was adequate the staff were very friendly and cleared vacated tables promptly. The drinks and food menu’s had plenty of choice and I decided to have the jacket potato with chicken curry which came with a salad garnish. The portion was great and the chicken curry was delicious…mum had a toasted sandwich which came with a small salad, coleslaw and some crisps. Both very reasonably priced and would not hesitate to recommend if you are looking for a lunch time bite. We will return.
