Worse service I’ve ever had sat in here!! 15 minutes no one came to even take drinks order had a table booked for 4 and walked out . Food was a 25 minute + wait and wasn’t even very busy . Don’t waste your time , food also looked like your big standard pub food. Nothing special , menu basic .

Matthew, Adam, Skye & Gemma (and housekeeping) were all exceptionally accommodating and I felt very welcome. They made room for my fairly chaotic energy and sporadic style of inconveniences. From arrival I was helped with saving money by booking through Agoda instead of direct at the counter, made allowances around dinner times even though they had a very busy schedule. Met with smiles and friendliness. Fantasticly cooked and presented food. A well fitting hotel for Llandovery's history as a drover town. Beautiful place, beautiful people. I'll remember my short stay warmly. 💚🙏🕉️ All the best Nick Ji.

We booked the deluxe double room which was advertised with photos of large four poster beds and grand looking rooms, we did not get allocated one of these rooms. Instead we got a tired student-like room with broken furniture, mouldy grouted bathroom, spring mattress that flattened upon the lightest weight. When we expressed our disappointment we were adamantly told that this was a deluxe room and the issue was left unresolved. The hotel gets quiet around 9/10pm so despite the thin walls/floors and how easily sound travels this was manageable and something to expect in such an old building. The hotel is dog friendly and is also kept clean. There was only one staff on at breakfast which resulted in the coffee running out and several of us waiting 15+ minutes (or more?) for it to be refilled, we ended up leaving without due to time pressure. There was no fresh water to help yourself to as part of the breakfast spread. Despite this the breakfast was decent. Lovely quirky old coaching inn, such a shame about the rooms. We do plan to visit the area again but won’t choose to stay here.

No complaints here. All staff were super friendly and couldn't do enough for you. We were there for an event and it was so easy and hassle free to organise with them. Food was great served nice and hot and fast service. Lovely food and plenty to go around. Considerate staff waiting for us to finishing the awards ceremony before cleaning the puddings away. Good rooms nice and clean and plenty of room. Lovely breakfast with plenty of choice Would highly recommend either as a normal evening meal or to use as a venue for a function.

Worst meal I have ever been served. Christmas dinner was what they described it as. The fiasco began with toast and pate. The toast seemed to have been made much earlier and put aside to be served. In fact it tasted as though it had been toasted the day before and was as hard as wood. We all tried smearing the tasteless pate onto what seemed like bits of chipboard but gave up for fear of breaking our teeth. A group of us were served bit by bit so some either waited while their food went cold or had to start eating while others waited ten more minutes for theirs. Raw Brussel sprouts as hard as iron. My pet donkey would have refused them. How can anyone get something as simple and basic as boiling a sprout wrong ? Stuffing balls literally as hard as cannon balls yet completely uncooked in the middle. How they managed that is a wonder. Pigs in Blankets raw and uncooked. Again how hard is it to put something in an oven until it looks brown through and cooked ? Roasted potatoes ? Cooked hours earlier and reheated. Cold side veg. Gravy arrived ten minutes after we began eating along with sauces. All too late. Yorkshire puddings resembled the piece of leather I use when washing the car down at weekends and tasted about the same. You could actually stretch it to twice it's length and it sprung back. What in God's name was it made with? Teenage staff clueless. Ended with desert bought from Tesco by the looks of it. If you fancy a decent Christmas meal this is not the place. Too many school leavers trying to be cooks and waiters working here. They should be in the local chippy or burger joint which is where we all had to go afterwards for a decent meal.

The hotel and people and food are all fine. The area that's let's this hotel down is housekeeping. In the time i stayed here, the cups were left unwashed for 2 days. Towels not changed where clearly they needed to be. Replenishment of complimentary teas, coffee, and water is not consistent. By far one of the best hotels in the area but let down by the quality of the housekeeping staff

Breakfast again, staff were very chatty and helpful. Food again was lovely. Our room was very cosy, we couldn’t hear any noise from downstairs. Had everything we needed. Das Restaurant bietet typische Pub-Speisen an, glutenfrei mögliche Gerichte sind markiert. Man kann auch draussen sitzen. I love this place normally but I’m sorry to say the food was awful today. We had fish and chips. The batter was brown and tough. Well overcooked and tasteless. And the chips didn’t taste fresh. Also it was quiet and we had to wait over half an hour for food. We thought well at least it’s fresh but honestly it didn’t taste fresh. I’m sorry to leave this review as the Sunday dinners are really nice. This is first time I’ve had cod and chips here and I must say Never again . Very friendly and they are good with dogs. Easter weekend lunch. Our family of 7 arrived, the restaurant wasn't busy at all, I waited at the bar to be seated while 3 staff members were chatting and one was getting a coke for customers, 7 minutes later I was still waiting and hadn't been acknowledged despite being the only person standing at the bar. We were shown to our table and waited, and waited again eventually the waitress came to take our order. Food arrived quite quickly but those with beef had just one slice as did the pork dinner, the roast potatoes were hard and pretty cold and the yourkshire puddings had been in the kitchen a good while prior to being served too. Not good. It was an eternity after we had finished before anyone came over to clear plates and then only half were cleared and we were left again, not offered dessert or more to drink.... In the end I took the test of the plates to the bar and asked for dessert menu, they weren't busy there, chatting, I went to the loo and could hear a lot of noise, shouting, laughing from the kitchen.... Dessert took 25 mins to come and restaurant was now empty. Dessert was disappointing, synthetic cheesecake 😕. We left unhappy and after years of going here, not again.

However the food, service and atmosphere was second to none and we can’t wait to return! We give it a solid 5/5… The dining room is beautiful, very Welsh and the tables spaced well apart. The service was impeccable from both bar staff and waitresses. They were very friendly and nothing was too much bother. They explained the menu items and our numerous questions with clarity and in food spirit. They were genuinely lovely. The food was ‘lush’! Had 4 nights here. It's a very old building and has a bit of a shabby vibe. Nice staff but nasty carpets. I would say it needs a fair bit of money spending on it. Ate in the restaurant one night, it was ok. Decent breakfast. I didn't feel it was value at £100 per night, considering bedrooms weren't being serviced due to Covid.

Dinner for three in the main restaurant, characterless room and food! Had high expectations considering the "rough guide" entry and local tourist blurb, but left disappointed. Pleasant enough staff. In Llandovery for a week, will stick with takeaways!

Very basic meal had gammon ok but not much with it a few peas in jar to make them look more, chips in dripping in my view was horrible with pineapple, asked for egg said they can’t do one as it takes a long time as they are busy or maybe an egg can’t be microwaved. My wife ordered Veg pie and meal came with meat pie. Won’t be visiting again.

Stayed for a week. Wonderful friendly hard working staff, traditional pub with a good mix of locals and visitors, tiny little village. Beer was great, breakfast was lovely, super dog friendly accommodation. Evening meals were pretty solid 7/10 meals. We had two rooms though and they must have been overflow rooms due to the hotel being very busy. Some of the rooms looked ok as we walked past but our rooms were very very old and desperately in need of a good paint, new furniture and a good deep carpet clean. We also heard a conversation at breakfast where one or two of the rooms were right on top of the main road passing through the village and the guests woke up when the first HGVs started going through the village about 5am. Not sure how true that is but worth bearing in mind. Shame, would have given 4 stars but seemed to get very unlucky with the rooms. Staff were wonderful.

Booked an evening meal here after having been impressed before. But on this occasion I’m afraid it wasn’t to be. We were sat in the bar where we didn’t want to be. Social distancing/mask protection not adhered to here. There are arrows but too where? Had issues finding food for lactose intolerant lady. Nothing on the menu at all so we took stuff off and added from other plates! We also had two steaks for £22 each if I remember correctly. The steaks were extremely thin and it seemed it was one steak cut in two! Chips were cold plates were cold no vegetables or salad. Desert was a fruit pie with a minimal amount of custard. Looked like it had been measured in a teaspoon! Not a great choice. I’ve had really good food here before so I just don’t understand why they’ve gone down this route. Very disappointing as we were looking forward to it and I’ve purchased from the meat supplier and my steaks were not like this. Certainly paid the price for our decision to eat here.

After an absolute nightmare of a camping trip during Storm Francis, we packed down our broken tent and drenched belongings and decided to not let this ruin our holiday and luckily found The Castle Hotel had availability for the next 2 nights. Although the hotel is located on a fairly busy road, it didn’t take away from the peacefulness of the hotel. We booked the suite which was very interesting! We could not understand why there was no bathroom and assumed there was a shared one. However after some poking around, we managed to move the mirror which turned out to be a door!! This lead into a dressing room area with tea and coffee and also a large bathroom with both shower and bathtub. The staff are very hard working and we’re very accommodating to our requests. We woke up one morning not realising that we had missed breakfast, however they kindly made us some regardless which was a lovely gesture. The food in general was good not excellent but was satisfactory for what we needed. Overall a lovely place and great staff!! Would recommend this place is you’re looking for a quirky little pub stay. Note: we had our dog with us who also felt at ease staying in the comfy room and in the restaurant.

Summary : Second year stay worse than first year, otherwise nothing has changed. Same worn, old and tatty, tasteless interiour and mostly irritating beginners' pieces of art on the walls. Atrocious service, poor management but friendly and apologetic.. Best: The bed was comfy, room was tidy. Room no soap, no info, no wifi password in room. COVID regs? Don't think so. But generously offering one clothes hanger! Second day room was not made up. Water takes minute to get warm. Extractor doesn't work and is also full of fungus.Food: Can't even manage cooked breakfast. Took nearly an hour to arrive and incomplete. Cooked BF from tins. Dinner: Little choice, either Burger or Steak, Curry not available. Day 1: Chewy terrible quality steak then day 2 cremated steak, parts of dish missing. Dessert: Ice cream missing. Food takes ages to arrive. Day 2 nobody takes orders. Then after pointing this out takes another 20 minutes for a guy to come and take the order. Sort of "it's not my job to take your order" One waiter with terrible body odour. Next morning he smells the same. Obviously no idea of hygiene. Kitchen extractor fan apparently not working hence why not open the kitchen door to the guest's dining room so that is smoke filled from cremated steaks. Nobody seems to notice or bother. Amazing what tghe guest are willing to take. Never again but there is probably nothing else of acceptable quality in this region. Typical

Friendly staff were able to accommodate us without a booking on a Saturday night for dinner. We hadnt eaten since breakfast, and after a 3 hour car journey and 15,000 steps we needed a juicy steak and carbs. Unfortunately the meals appeared too quickly and whilst cooked to our request of medium rare, the meat had been burnt on the outside and was chewy with no flavour. There was a good atmosphere inside the pub but I would only return for drinks as I think the steaks at £18/£22 were overpriced for the quality of meat and cooking

Extremely good value Sunday lunch, incredibly filling, hot and quick to come out. We also enjoyed two desserts which were lovely. We came to The Castle Hotel for a drink in the evening, and again enjoyed the lovely atmosphere.

We stopped off here on our way to Pembrokeshire on holiday, was fab they allowed dogs. We were made to feel very welcome with our two children and dog. Menu is nice but limited, which we didn’t mind. Children’s meal £5.50 for small bowl of pasta would have been nice if a drink or slice of garlic bread was included with this, but we ordered some on the side and children enjoyed it.My husband and I both had burgers buttermilk chicken and cheese burger both around £9, chips not included. Overall ok meal, and great service. We will be back on our way through Llandovery again. Thankyou
