What a fantastic evening! All of my guests commented on the fabulous food and how much they enjoyed eating it. Ben, the chef ensured that everyone's needs were met including the children and those with special dietary requirements. Graham and all of the staff worked so hard to make sure that things ran smoothly. It was a very memorable occasion. Thank you very much.

We decided to book the restaurant on the back of the excellent reviews. Before visiting the restaurant I also had a look at the menus & they seemed really appealing. We had the prawn skewers & ham terrine for starters , and we both had the “special “ of the lamb curry at £26.50. The ham hock terrine was nice, but the prawn starter was £10 for 5 prawns on a slice of naan bread with a few accompaniments. I tasted a prawn & in my opinion they were just ok, nothing great. When we tasted the lamb in the curry, it was not at all tender like you would expect. The accompanying relishes were a tiny ( ie approx 1/2 teaspoon ) of lime pickle , some mango chutney , rice, naan & pappadom. It wasn’t the prices so much, as being in the Lake District we expected this given the inflated prices usually experienced. For me it was the “ordinary” quality of the food. The quality was nothing special that would make me want to return. I of course cannot be sure, but for example in my view, the naan breads were too uniform in size , texture & taste, making me wonder about their origin ( shop bought vs made In House ?, I will never know ). And yes, the curry came with , for example , lime pickle, but the portion was so small, it felt meaningless. I am respectful of others opinions within the reviews on this site, but I will not be returning.

Ate here on the Saturday evening and were so impressed that we came back for Sunday lunch. Ideally located next to the canal. Food very tasty and definitely value for money. Staff friendly and attentive.

First time here and first impressions were what a lovely place. 10 of us for a family Birthday meal. We had already pre orderd our meals. Some of our party had already arrived before we got there and had ordered their drinks. Waitress came over straight away to take our drinks order but we weren't ready so asked for a coupe of minutes, 15 went by and we still hadn't ordered our drinks and it wasn't that busy, so my husband went to the bar. While he was at the bar our food came. 10 minutes at the bar and we finally had our drinks. Most of our food was nice, some average and the fish and chips were what can I say well done and dry (wish I had said something) the batter didn't taste nice at all. We waited an age to be asked if we wanted any deserts. Five of us got desserts and at £9 each was pretty expensive. The more mature waitress was lovely. Overall, nice place, expensive, slow service, probably wouldn't go again due to cost.

The most horrendous customer service I have ever experienced. We as a family of 5 had spent around £80 on food and drinks for a Sunday lunch, my husband ordered a couple of starters which was edible I had meat and stuffing sandwich which was the same just bog standard edible. However we had ordered the 3 children sausage dinners which were rock solid frozen. Carrots peas 1 roast potatoe and a yorkshire pudding with 2 sausages was all that was on the plate the only thing my children were able to actually chew were the sausages. And for £8.50 per dinner I would expect it to be not only cooked but actually ‘enjoyable’ when I took the food back to the bar I was greeted with the most rude argumentative manager I have ever known after talking down to me insisting I should pay for them because even though she agreeed the veg wasn’t cooked the kids half ate the sausage, we settled in the end that I would pay for the sausages the children half ate which were £7 supposedly. Anyway moral of the story, don’t waste your money there is a lot more places to eat around this area that are nicer and cheaper and staff who are polite and welcoming. This pub used to be a lovely place for Sunday dinners whoever is now running it now has ruined it, will not be back!
