We decided to book the restaurant on the back of the excellent reviews. Before visiting the restaurant I also had a look at the menus & they seemed really appealing. We had the prawn skewers & ham terrine for starters , and we both had the “special “ of the lamb curry at £26.50. The ham hock terrine was nice, but the prawn starter was £10 for 5 prawns on a slice of naan bread with a few accompaniments. I tasted a prawn & in my opinion they were just ok, nothing great. When we tasted the lamb in the curry, it was not at all tender like you would expect. The accompanying relishes were a tiny ( ie approx 1/2 teaspoon ) of lime pickle , some mango chutney , rice, naan & pappadom. It wasn’t the prices so much, as being in the Lake District we expected this given the inflated prices usually experienced. For me it was the “ordinary” quality of the food. The quality was nothing special that would make me want to return. I of course cannot be sure, but for example in my view, the naan breads were too uniform in size , texture & taste, making me wonder about their origin ( shop bought vs made In House ?, I will never know ). And yes, the curry came with , for example , lime pickle, but the portion was so small, it felt meaningless. I am respectful of others opinions within the reviews on this site, but I will not be returning.

A return visit as we were staying locally. We enjoyed our starters and mains - mackerel, goats cheese, then rack of lamb and chicken curry. The curry was especially tasty! Service good. We thought that an improvement would be to add more veg with both starters and mains but I'd still give it 5 stars as it's always a pleasure to eat here.

Couple having dinner on holiday. Odd experience really - likeable atmosphere for a hotel (which we were not staying at). Interesting menu. Mackerel starters fine - pretty enormous for starters but guess some people will like that. My special of chicken curry was really very good - interesting flavours and satisfyingly murky sauces - and I suspect an ex-Indian restaurant chef involved, especially as the other special was lamb curry. But my partner’s lamb, nicely pink as requested, had thick layers of fat that cried out to be rendered properly. She told the absolutely charming waitress who wanted to help but clearly didn’t understand the problem. It went back to the kitchen and came back with the whole meal steaming hot and obviously microwaved. She left it pretty much uneaten and we were not charged for it. But that doesn’t help if you’re hungry! Anyway, decent cheeseboard and dessert wine. What absolutely did not help was the muzak on a 5 minute loop that drove us slightly crazy by the end of the night. So all in all a nearly OK place - and brilliant for a curry! £110 for two inc drinks and service. Lovely waitress.

The location was great, just a short walk from our accommodation. The dining room was pleasantly set up. The lady serving was very efficient and friendly but the food was a total disappointment. Maybe I was unlucky in my choice, but the Lentil Sambar was simply not restaurant quality food. This should be a tasty dish but the flavour was very thin, undeveloped and totally lacking in any interest. Potato, carrot and white rice made for a very unsatisfying meal.

Toen we dit zegden bracht men warme broccoli.

Came here for a meal with my wife while on a weekend break to the Lakes, having tried (and failed) to get a meal in 4 consecutive pubs! Ambience is lovely and relaxed, professionally done but with just the right level of care and attention to detail - we didn't feel harassed or rushed in any way but attention was there when we needed "topping up". The meal was wonderful - my wife ordered a juicy and incredibly cooked steak with fluffy chips and an oozing beef tomato - mouthwatering (we shared half and half of our meals each). The hand-cooked special (chicken keralan) was possibly the most incredible curry I've ever eaten - succulent, full of fresh cardamom pods that popped in the mouth, juicy and thick sauce, with meat meltingly tender, I asked the Waiter to talk me through the preparation and heard a regaling tale of the chef's magic (which I will challenge myself to even attempt to replicate at home). It was good enough to make me ask, because I simply can't accept when I go home that I'll never be able to eat this again. Topped off with the sides (fluffy basmati rice, tangy lemon chutney, hot naan bread and homemade lentil daal) made this an absolute winner. A really wonderful place and an amazing meal, thank you so much Ivy House of Braithwaite. I hope to come back in future as I really enjoyed it.

We visited Ivy House on the last night of our cottage stay in the small village of Braithwaite. The week had been marked by torrential rain and we were feeling rather down. The experience was lovely and just what was needed. Two brilliant waiting staff who showed great care for us as customers. Tasty, freshly cooked and original dishes. We enjoyed vegetable and lentil sambar with pickles and flatbreads, and roasted cauliflower with chimichurri, broad bean puree, asparagus and new potatoes. Neither of us is wholly vegetarian but with cooking like this we could easily be converted. A local cheeseboard and pum and damson sorbet rounded off a delicious meal. The decor (all neutrals) was organic, nurturing and soothing, especially in candlelight. We left feeling considerably more cheerful. Thank you Ivy House 🏠

Very nice food, but pricey, considering the underwhelming serving of accompanying vegetables. Maybe a ploy to encourage diners to opt for starters and deserts. The restaurant has a minimum spend requirement, something we've never seen elsewhere and could discourage older diners with smaller appetites.

We have been to Ivy House several times this year. We’ve always thoroughly enjoyed the food and ambiance, as have our family and friends. We decided to eat out on Christmas Day for the first time in many years and Ivy House was the choice. We had the most beautiful day. The food was absolutely fabulous, from the canapés right through to the mince pies (of course homemade) served with coffee. The staff are always a joy and the owners are lovely, warm welcoming people. We loved the atmosphere - very Christmassy with everyone having a great time, enjoying high quality food. Our children enjoyed it too! The price was right, we felt it was value for money and are already talking about returning for Christmas Day next year with plenty of visits in-between now and then! Do try Ivy House if you haven’t already. You will not be disappointed.

Really lucky we stumbled across this gem after reading reviews! We only had a one night stay in Braithwaite and we couldn't have picked a better evening dinner experience. Beautiful short walk from our hotel (Coledale Inn) but there is a small amount of parking at the front and behind. You'll find IH on a mini one way road just behind where the Royal Oak pub is situated (at the far end of the village). We didn't realise IH is also a hotel - looks stunning and gives the impression of a 5* stay. Our two waiters were extremely attentive and friendly and the food was especially delicious. We had the soup, rump steak and mushroom & asparagus pancake - the sticky toffee pudding is not to be missed either! Yes the bill is pricey but it's matched by the quality of food, ingredients on the menu, atmosphere and service. Will we go back - yes!!

I have to say, the food was delicious; the fish was so tender & fresh and everything including down to the berries with dessert, tasted locally sourced. Service was slightly abrupt (depending on who served you), although some people would just call that efficient. We were pleased to see the staff were still all wearing masks & deep cleaning every table & chair between each customer. We booked on the off-chance for our last night on holiday in Keswick. It was easy to get to but parking was a bit difficult despite a well laid-out car park behind the hotel: just not enough space for seasonal demand and anywhere else in the village is a complete no-no. The menu had an interesting range but2 curry dishes on a limited menu - ah well. We weren’t interested in the starters. Both the main course lamb and the guinea-fowl were excellent though the lamb could have done perfectly well without the slice of haggis. All was forgiven by the double choc brownie with a fruit compote and a scoop of vanilla ice cream, though since we were sharing the dessert, we ordered extra ice cream. The two red wines by the glass - a Merlot and a Tempranillo - were excellent. The service was pleasant, though the side room near the kitchen could have done with a fly exterminator in the passage to the exit.

Lovely Fine Dining Experience. Suprised by some of the reviews below. We both had 3 courses on a Saturday night. All were superbly presented and with plenty of local ingredients and regional specialities such as cumbrian lamb served with haggis and local Cheeses to finish. The Ivy House seems a step up from many of the local gastro pubs but not as formal as say a 1 star mitchelin restaurant.Price wise for the offering I thought it was good value. We both had 3 courses and chose more expensive options. We don't drink so had 2 large bottles of sparkling water. Total price £73 for 2 people.

The food was adequate but the service really could do with improving. On perusing the drinks menu it said ask for our selection of gins, now being a gin lover this I did to be told by the waitress there was elderflower, rhubarb and others that she couldn't remember then just stood there waiting, surely she should have offered to go and find out? Then when we asked for the bill we were given the wrong one! Won't be going back next year.

Everything about our evening at the Ivy House was spot on. Food and service were both excellent, and it was well worth the short drive over from Keswick to get there.Of the meals we had in the Keswick area over the course of a week, this was the best.

Extremely disappointing. A poorly presented cold starter served on a warm plate. Tiny prawns only just defrosted. Main courses with lots on the plate but almost no flavour. Guinea fowl served with an undercooked and tasteless parsnip (it's June) and red cabbage that was also undercooked. The "jus" was completely bland. Sea bass largely the same. Can't recommend at all. The two local pubs, both of which we tried, were miles better. Ironically both served better cooked and more interesting vegetables.

. . . . más y puede que hayamos estado luchando.

We ate here when staying at The Ivy House Hotel, and were so impressed we went back for a second night! This is probably not for you if you would rather have a large plate of traditional ‘pub grub’, but if you are happy with a select menu of slightly different, very well cooked and presented meals, you should be well pleased with what is on offer here.Plenty of choice for meat lovers, but we tried the mushroom risotto, the truffled portobello mushroom, the hake, and the sea bass dishes. All lovely and beautifully presented.Meals and wine are not overpriced, and good value.

I think they are in my top five of good fish and chips, and are good value for money. The fish tastes really fresh, and the chips are nice and crispI did notice one thing that I didn't like on my last visit- when the tables were cleared, the jugs of left over milk were topped up and given to new customersThis isn't very hygienic, ' the tables are small, and the milk has been coughed and sneezed over, plus droplets of saliva may have gone in it while speaking over it.Also people may have not washed their hands after using the toilet, and have been handling the jugI think all the jugs should be emptied and washed up properly after each useI realise they are trying to save money by using less milk, but this practice is not acceptable. If there is a lot of milk left in each jug, then they are putting too much in in the first place, and should put less in.The customer can always ask for a top up.I tried to find an email address, but couldn't, so perhaps they will read this, and do something about it, as it rally puts me off now that I have seen this happening. The only other point I would make is that the chairs aren't moveable , so if you're a bit bigger than average, it could be a bit of a squeeze.

On entering this classic local pub we felt welcomed and relaxed. There is a dog friendly area inside therefore we were able to have a nice drink and the most perfectly cooked Sunday dinner with our labradoodle regardless of the weather. A separate area is available for those without there best friend alongside. The chef obviously takes pride in creating an excellent traditional meal, he proudly plates your choice of 2 out of 3 meats available. Generous slices of moist meat are then complemented by your choice from several freshly cooked vegetables, nothing but perfectly cooked delightful and colourful vegetables. The gravy is also to die for and a cheese sauce tops this very delightful meal. I would happily pay twice the price. Get down to the Waterside Inn in West Sockwith, ITS AMAZING.

Spoilt my 30th birthday party! Do not hold your event here!! Below is the issues I had and the Email I sent…they did respond to the email and gave me a £120 refund (bare in mind the party was nearly £1,000) but that’s beside the point people need an insight to what that they are really like and not to pay good money to hold their events there just to have them ruined. Staff need retraining and be shown how organise, plan and deal correctly with clients. All the staff just pass the blame for their failures from one to another. This is the email I sent and all the issues I had so make up your own mind but I would definitely AVOID. Hi (events manager name) When I arrived at castle park on Friday afternoon on 23/08/24 I needed things moving around in the room I was there over 2 hours and nobody was on hand and in the end my family and the lady from the other events company offered to help because there wasn’t time to wait for yourself or someone else to it when I’d already been there over 2 hours. The table that had been left out for my cake only had 3 and a half legs which if my cake had gone on to it would have fallen off so again my family had to source another table then I needed a table cloth for it and we asked a member of staff where they were and they had no idea. The children’s buffet was missing items, the sandwich’s, the unlimited juice also the children’s buffet should have been on a separate table and it wasn’t. There was tuna sandwich’s when I asked for there not to be. There wasn’t any spoons for people to put dips on to their plates None of the sandwiches were labelled so people couldn’t tell what they were until they took a bite. Some of the food was over cooked, burnt and definitely not homemade as stated. Upon my mum raising the issues of the night to the catering manager she was met with an awful attitude, him raising my voice to my mum (to which my brother had to step in and asked him not to shout at her) and was given no apology. I am highly disappointed because all of this put a negative mood on my party night and spoilt it which shouldn’t happen I also didn’t get things I had paid for with also isn’t right. Absolutely awful organisation and customer service this isn’t what I expected from yourselves after attending other events with you. I know there was other events going on, on the same day and it was busy but a business such as yourselves should be able to deal with more than 1 event at a time and there is no excuse for these failings. Right from January I dealt with you, days when you weren’t there I was asked to call back when you were in which I did and you took all the details so for my mum to be told you were the new events manager because the other got sacked for promising things you couldn’t for fill is not right either when I’d only ever dealt with you. I would appreciate a swift response to this email.
