Ate here on the Saturday evening and were so impressed that we came back for Sunday lunch. Ideally located next to the canal. Food very tasty and definitely value for money. Staff friendly and attentive.

Outstanding views. Under cover outdoor picnic benches. 2nd bar is DOG FRIENDLY! Alan is a top draw barman, the head cooks Kev and Vicky (licencee) will do a steak or gammon exactly as ordered. A special canal side pub worth a visit.

Went for Christmas menu and the turkey was thin and tasteless, hard frozen sprouts, dry probably frozen roast potatoes which were burnt, hard frozen parsnips, soggy stuffing, under cooked pigs in blankets and the only fresh thing were the carrots which were the best on the plate. No Yorkshire, lacking homemade quality of a Christmas roast which you would expect. Told the Manager who seems uninterested and paid full price for a meal which was far below standard expected. Absolutely would not go back need to do home made fresh food not frozen.

Went for Sunday Lunch to be told it wasn't on. Staff looked unhappy 1 of them had bad body odour. Seemed like all of the work was done by 1 man behind the bar, at re was no Sunday lunch available. We have been before and it was good. Something has gone seriously wrong here.

Won't be visiting again

Had a great visit to the New Inn with our walking group. I chose the pub based on its website - photos looked great - and its location on the canal, perfect spot for a canalside stroll. There was a lot resting on me because we usually finish in a pub and it is often one that one of the group has visited before and recommends. I felt like I was taking a risk by bringing us somewhere we had never been before but it paid off and we had a great visit. Everyone enjoyed their meal, we had a fab view of the waterway and passing narrow boats and the staff were friendly and helpful. Plus the prices were reasonable. The thing that made the New Inn stand out for me though was the fantastic service before we even turned up. I made three calls in total to the pub while planning the walk - provisional booking, confirming numbers then updating numbers based on drop-outs - and each time the person who answered gave great service and was welcoming and friendly. Two different staff members answered my calls and they were both fab. They were also really accommodating. They asked questions that I wouldn't have thought of but that were really useful in planning our visit. For example, whether we would have any dogs with us (it is a dog friendly pub) and whether it would be helpful to have access to the toilets on our arrival (which it most definitely was!). Everyone in the group really appreciated the welcome and it stood out as one of our most welcoming pub trips.

Our table had every starter, the prawn cocktails wer beautifully presented, no complaints. Mushrooms in a garlic blue cheese sauce topped with panko crumb and sour dough bread, no panko on any of them, and looking around the room nobody had panko?? The pate dint taste of anything at all, served with mixed leaf and red onion chutney and bread, No chutney only sliced red onions on top of mixed leaf. Main course Boil in the bag 2 slices of over boiled turkey, frozen pre cooked pig in blanket, frozen stuffing ball, frozen MASH!! Frozen roast potatoes, garden peas, carrots and sprouts, a slimy spiced red cabbage ond very well done roast possibly fried parsnips, topped withtasteless watery gravy to try and hide the mess. Dessert was a festive apple crumble topped with cinnamon which turned out to just be apple pie filling with bought in crumble on top, no cinnamon in site. £50 per head and evety single person said never again, total rubbish. Its a shame because its a beautiful location on the canal bank

We like to eat by the waterside so The New Inn really fits that bill. However the food has to be edible to be enjoyed. We both had the steak pie and both the pies were packed with gristle. When the waitress asked “Are you enjoying your meals?” I told her that the food was really poor quality. No follow up from her or the landlady, who heard the comments. So, inedible food and no interest about why from the staff. This is one meal we will both remember. Unfortunately for all the wrong reasons

We spotted this place and was instantly drawn in by the views. We found a table next to the canal and went inside to order food. The staff were welcoming. The food was hot and decent portions. The only negatives were that the jacket potato doesn't come with any butter so it was a bit dry and we had to ask for more sauces as the pot only came with mayonnaise. I also think it's nice for someone to come over once to check everything is okay but it hasn't put us off. We will definitely return

Where has the atmosphere gone? Had some lovely meals here in the past. Something has changed...a real lack of atmosphere. Really no customer attention at all and nobody seemed to be happy to be there. The food was OK...but not as good as before. The chips were awful and we weren't asked if we wanted desserts. Felt like once we had our food plonked on our table then we were forgotten about. Won't be back. Such a shame.

This place has really taken off in the last couple of months. The food is brilliant, staff are so friendly and the atmosphere is incredible. Haven't seen so many boaters here for a couple of years. Talking to some boaters who braved a visit after the pub got a bad rep with local boat clubs over past year or two, and they really were impressed with the quality of food and excellent level of service. We'll worth a visit, but I'd advise to book for food as it does get busy now. :)

A large group of us visited for a Friday evening meal and were really impressed with the friendly staff and the excellent quality of food. We arrived not long before 8pm, which is when food is meant to stop but were delighted that there was no problem for us to still order and be treated in such a polite and warm way. We weren't intending on staying after our meal, but really enjoyed soaking up the atmosphere as Karaoke and a disco followed later that evening. We will definitely return soon and would recommend a visit to this warm and friendly pub in such beautiful surroundings. Well done to the team at the New Inn - see you soon!D Peters & family

Popped in to the New Inn which had great reviews on Trip Advisor. Great location and friendly staff. Ordered the sunday roast (beef). Pale slices of rubbery beef, large selection of vegetables (majority were tasteless) and a burnt (originally frozen?) yorkshire pudding. Could have been so much better - half the vegetables, cooked properly, some proper yorkshires and a nice piece of beef would have been lovely. Worst roast I have experienced possibly ever.

I think they are in my top five of good fish and chips, and are good value for money. The fish tastes really fresh, and the chips are nice and crispI did notice one thing that I didn't like on my last visit- when the tables were cleared, the jugs of left over milk were topped up and given to new customersThis isn't very hygienic, ' the tables are small, and the milk has been coughed and sneezed over, plus droplets of saliva may have gone in it while speaking over it.Also people may have not washed their hands after using the toilet, and have been handling the jugI think all the jugs should be emptied and washed up properly after each useI realise they are trying to save money by using less milk, but this practice is not acceptable. If there is a lot of milk left in each jug, then they are putting too much in in the first place, and should put less in.The customer can always ask for a top up.I tried to find an email address, but couldn't, so perhaps they will read this, and do something about it, as it rally puts me off now that I have seen this happening. The only other point I would make is that the chairs aren't moveable , so if you're a bit bigger than average, it could be a bit of a squeeze.

2020 Covid review Opening hours seem stale now. There's hand sanitise on the way in. No wifi. You can message them by Facebook to reserve a table. They have only 4 taps of real ales but no bottle any more. Expensive for Donny, 1.80 a half or 3.60 a pint. Old review Lovely place with 10 taps and loads of bottles. Prices are expensive for Doncaster but there is plenty of choice
