Cod was well below usually standard. All three fish had wet soggy batter and the fish meat was grey in areas and wet rather than dry and meaty. Dissappointed.

Portion ofchips smaller than my hand for £2.90. it’s just a portion of chips no need for the massive cost Wouldn’t mind but the chips were nothing special.. I don’t feel good about being robbed I appreciate prices have risen but these chips were double what they should have cost for the portion size. Not happy at all

Excellent service and great staff

This is the first time we’ve used this fish & chip shop in Doncaster. We’ve used another well known local one for a few years now. I have to say the staff were friendly & happy, they gave me a chance to browse the menu & decide what we were having. When it came to ordering they showed me sizes of fish as wasn’t sure how big the fish could be. We went with a small cod & haddock with chips mushy peas & a bread cake. The portion sizes of both the fish & chips were adequate for our needs. The fish was coated in a lovely light batter, something that was just right & tasted amazing. Chips were good too, mushy peas were homemade I think. This is a very busy & very popular fish & chip shop - they also do online orders via their own app. Very happy with the food & service - and we will definitely go back 😀

First time at Auckley Friery today and it lived up to expectations. Lovely fish with light batter as that's my preference. Staff very pleasant and accommodating. Will go again.

Popped into this chip shop as we we're passing through, always used to come here years ago was amazing back then, certainly gone down hill since then. Shop looks amazing and very clean but we ordered a selection of small bits and was nealry £20! Would have cost half that in my local. Took 3 members of staff to put order together which took a good fifteen mintues and when we got home and had the food we were very disapointed! This wasnt an award winning meal this was basic run of the mill food, it was not worth the hefty price tag! Portions also very small, Wont be coming here again!

rdered 2 small cod n chips, and small haddock n chips, all with mushy peas online. Collected just before closing and all the staff were very friendly and nice, I could see they were crossing off items on the orders so had no reason to doubt my order would me missing an item. Got home and only 2 mushy peas! Not the 3 ordered and paid for, meant I had to go without as I wasn’t going to leave my partner and father in-law short. The fish n chips were nice, but not exceptional, and I don’t understand why this place was shortlisted as one of the best chippies in the U.K. as I would say the food is nice but certainly not one of the best in the U.K. and I’ve visited a lot of chippies in my time over the years. My local chippy in Warlingham knocks spots off this place and has never been shortlisted. I can only assume it’s to do with paying membership association/fees etc. My haddock tasted just like cod to be perfectly honest, so maybe that was another mistake like the missing mushy peas, as haddock is a very different taste to cod. I’ve given 2 stars only, would have been 3, but I knocked one off due to the missing peas. It would have been pointless calling them about it as they would have been closed by then and even if open, by the time of driving back and then back home my food would have been cold. I wouldn’t say don’t go there, but I’m told there are much better chippies not far away, one near the race track apparently. So I’ll be going there next time.

Rightly deserving of being in the top 10 in the UK 2023 for fish and chips Had haddock and cod with chips, mushy peas and beans....all excellent. Clean establishment, nice staff and an owner who took pride in what he did and answered all my curious questions

The fish lives up to the awards it has received. The batter was not too thick and not too light extremely crispy the fish tasted really fresh and the scraps were great too. However the only criticism I would have is when asking for cod and chips you were asked what sized chips you were requiring instead of assuming the because I had a large cod I wanted a large chips. My first visit and would definitely go back, but I’d make sure I got smaller chips. I would Highly recommend you trying this chippy.

You are unable to order online if you are spending less than £10 (lunch for one) so you have to order in the shop. Today, the staff were so busy preparing app orders that they did not take a counter order for over 15 minutes. After 20 minutes of waiting for my order which was only sausage and chips, I had to ask if they would mind sorting my order as my lunch break would be over before I got the food. The food was beautiful. It would be great if something could be put in place to cut down on wait times.

Being a healthy living chap I don’t frequent chip shops often. It’s been a while so for a change I decided to get some chips. Since when does it cost £4 for a bag of chips! OMG! It’s not even a bag it’s a box. An actual box for chips OMG! Then they put the box in a bag OMG! No wonder it costs £4. I’m ranting I know but the chip were mediocre at best. Not even freshly cooked and not that hot. The staff didn’t want to be there. The lad serving literally threw the chips in the box. Overall, very disappointing, very expensive and poor service. Couldn’t recommend and I won’t be going back.

Probably one of the best chippies in Britain. I was there at 7pm last night and the queue was out the door. The shop was also taking internet and phone orders. There were four ladies serving and they all worked together like a well oiled machine, very hard working and very efficient. The food, as always, was delicious.

It’s been a while since I’ve been as moved a little drive away. But tonight myself and my missus popped in to grab some fish and chips. Service was brilliant. Came in 10 mins before closing as they we cleaning down, and we were welcomed in. Had a chat with a gent that I assume was the owner, who gave us loads of info about the shop and the food. The shop itself is immaculate. Got back with our food and tucked in. Chips were great, the battered sausage was brilliant (not even a hint of greasiness), and the fish was fresh and really nice. We’ve had fish and chips from other local places, and decided to drive a bit further as we’d been let down by unfresh fish. The food from Auckley did not disappoint. And it’s really nice to find local businesses that really care about quality.

Had cod and chips from this chippy at home with my lady wife. They were good old-fashioned English fish&chips with no frills but good quality. The only disappointment was that they weren't wrapped in newspaper 😁

Asked for plain sausage and they gave me batteries and the chips was slightly undercooked and soggy

I had a medium Haddock which was in reality a small, and Medium chips, which I would also judge small. The batter was light and the fish meaty, the chips however were soggy. Not good value, and other Chippies in the area have the edge

You will not find a better fish and chip shop! Wow, the fish bites are white, fluffy and incredibly fresh! The chips are just gorgeous and the curry sauce, amazing. It’s all amazing and don’t bother going anywhere else, this place is the best we’ve ever had in many years!! Don’t change a thing it is just beautiful and not even greasy either. Went at lunch time today and although the chips were nice, they looked and tasted like frozen (pub chips) and £3.45 for a medium portion, bit pricey when every other chippy are around the £2.50 mark for a similar if not larger portion.

Ordered online to collect. A good vegetarian selection is also available. We had haddock and chips, cheesie rissole, mushy peas and an unbattered sausage. They were all really tasty. The staff are very efficient and friendly. This is the best fish and chip shop and I'm not surprised they made the top 10.

Visited Thursday as I heard they were nice . Very very over priced . The fish was too much batter and the chips were very hard and tasted like oven chips . Overall disappointed

A great local fish 🐟 and chip shop, yum yum! It's always immaculately clean 🫧 They do all the classics, pies, sausage, battered or plain, haddock and cod, cod bites are great for the kids and of course the chinese chip shop curry! Hmmm! They also do a chicken curry, but as they don't make large batches your best to call in and ask, or add to the information on your online order! Top 10 UK chippy and you can taste why! Chips were the worsted chip Aldi frozen chips were better curry was watery

Visted yesterday, very overpriced, chips were not nice at all, were like oven chips, gravy did not have much taste, only nice thing was pie, but nothing unique to them. Very disappointing for an ‘award winning’ chippy. Will certainly be returning to Misterton Chippy!

Here’s my first hand experience of a very occasional customer, as someone who uses local takeaways quite regularly and is fairly food industry savvy. Service: didn’t know where the queue began or ended. A short wait, wasn’t busy. A young man took my order - wasn’t particularly friendly, engaging or smiling. Very transactional. The order was simple, but took around 15 minutes to complete. Price: £4 for a large chips. £2.25 for battered sausage. £1.75 for a small battered sausage. Fish over £8. No deals. It makes for a very pricy dinner when you’re feeding two adults and two/three children. I like to pay for quality and often do, but the menu feels like it’s devised to extract maximum spend per customer rather than deliver a balance of value and quality for a fair price. I haven’t got the exact menu to hand, but a medium fish, chips and large side of peas would be touching £14. Which brings me on to quality… The food: Our chips were dry, stodgy and slightly overcooked. Even drenched in vinegar and salt, they just weren’t near the best we’ve had locally. They also leave an oily taste - I understand from other reviews that they fry in palm oil for “sustainability” reasons. Well, it doesn’t taste great that’s for sure. The sausage (didn’t have fish as it would’ve meant me spending £45 to feed my family) was crispy, but the quality no better than any chippy locally. Again, leaving a greasy aftertaste. Most of the sausage around the table was left, wasted. Peas - excellent. Curry - good. Packaging - lots of boxes to discard. What’s wrong with paper when just serving boxes of chips? I get the box for fish and chips. So, I’m sorry, I’m just not a fan. I’ve felt like reviewing this before as last time I had a similar feeling. How about bringing some value to your offering? You’re part of a supportive community who deserve some balance. You seem to push your success at National fish and chip awards so heavily. Great to promote your success but it seems a little OTT. And with that your prices are just too high when compared to the actual quality of your end product. Talking to one of your regulars - their comments were “I like it but it feels like you have to take out a mortgage to feed the family”.

Well someone said that this chip shop had been voted 2023 chippy of the year. God only knows who voted because they were shocking, the only nice bit was the batter, the chips were frozen ones & the fish was black inside, so for a mini fish & chips £10, that is day light Robbery. Since my mum got home she’s been sick and she only had a small fish on its own. I will definitely go back to my usual one and not the one that charges the earth for mini fish & 15 frozen chips.

Love this chippy, but had large fish and chips for the first time, and its not noticeably bigger than standard size. And not cheap.

It’s a shame the food is good as who I believe to be the owner is extremely rude. Won’t be returning and will be utilising elsewhere instead. I showed up early for my online order and queried whether it was ready early, to be told by a lovely lady unfortunately not and will be ready in a few mins. I then waited outside and could hear the very unpleasant man badmouthing me and the situation about how I’d turned up early. I merely queried whether my food was ready and didn’t expect or demand it in any way. Extremely disappointed and will be letting friends and family know too.

Purely looking at the price list looks on the pricey side, but when you receive your meal the quantity snd quality are both phenomenal

Had cod, chips, peas and sausages for family with peas and curry sauce. Batter was nice and crispy. It was very pricey for fish and chip lunch and have had much tastier and cheaper at other local chippies such as Whitbys and in Cantley.

Not got a clue how this chippie wins awards, staff lacking manners, over priced and mediocre on a good day. In response to Auckley Fisheries was regular until earlier this year as was on way home from work in Doncaster. Perhaps a little unfair about staff, it's really just one that tends to be very abrupt. Pricing does tend to be higher and not because your portions are bigger. Accept chips do vary through year according to available potatoes. Tend to find them a little to pale and soft for my liking. Your batter to me is biggest problem leaves a very strong and strange after taste.

I've always had the freshest and tastiest food from the Friery, the staff are always efficient, happy and polite. You'll not be disappointed

We drove all the way from Hull and had a wonderful meal! My son loves fish and chips and was so happy!

We called last night as we were camping at Yorkshire wildlife park. It was a little expensive but the food was absolutely delicious and cooked fresh, I could tell by the cars that were coming and going that it was going to be a good quality chippy, well we definitely weren't disappointed would call again if in the area.

Rightly deserves its reputation as one of the best around, as the quality and quantity are perfect. If I had only concern though, it would be that their spicy curry sauce was a bit bland for my liking. Therefore 9/10

This place was supposed to be good. Fish was ok but chips were so fatty that I couldn’t eat them. Worst chips I’ve ever had. You can see on the picture how much oil was there!

Just been and only ordered 2 small fish and chips and sausage and chips kids meal and a drink and come to nearly £30 so I left and went round corner to jazzy plaice and ordered the exact same and come to £17 and was very nice and the fish was big

Had a recommendation that it was worth driving out from Cantley to this plaice 😉 and wasn't disappointed. It was busy with plenty of folk waiting outside. We had ordered online and like magic exactly at out pre-booked collection time we were given our food. Cod, Haddock, Chips and Halloumi bites all just perfectly delicious. Will now be our go to for 🐟 n chips.
