My son lives in the village and he treated me and hubby to a meal for mother's day. Service and meal were excellent. Good sized portions all round. Lovely cosy family run pub and will definitely visit again

We have never been to this restaurant before but after seeing some positive reviews we thought we would try it for lunch. The restaurant had plenty of parking , which is always a plus , and the food on the menu looked great . As I need a gluten and diary free meal this can sometimes be tricky , but I ordered the burger and fries , and it was hands down one of the best burgers I have had. Really tasty and great portion size . The service was also excellent, and we had a lovely time. I would highly recommend this place , and will be going back for sure .

Unexpectedly good ... The Angel looks nice enough on their website. Most places do. But the location, decor, welcome and food in reality were all way above expectation. The courtyard garden doesn't seem to have many photos online - it's the star of the show tucked away from the spacious dining area. It's dog friendly, which was a bonus. Service is fast, but eggs royale, eggs benedict and pulled pork bap better than you'd expect in a very decent London hotel. Spotlessly clean but with Cotswold chic vibes. I'm tired of so many places in the area now charging £22 for a £15 brunch plate. Loads of options here for under a tenner, a bit more if you dive into the delicious Basque cheesecake like I did. It completes every breakfast, really. Top Marks to the Angel, which isn't really a cafe, but I'm not sure what word describes it better.

Impromptu lunch this Saturday with my daughter and dog. Lovely welcome, discussed some of the beers/ciders, let us sample some. Sat us down by the lovely warm fire and took our orders. Both had the masses to start, a large bowl of delicious meaty mussels in a fantastic wine and cream sauce! Had the long horn steak for mains, cooked to perfection with large bowl of chips, mushroom, tomatoes and salad. What a feast! Atmosphere of pubs was lovely very cosy.

Having thought overnight about whether and what to write, I have concluded that I must say what needs to be said, though I’m sorry to be writing this. I’ve eaten here on several occasions as it’s handy for Westonbirt where regular 10k runs take place. I’ve always been pleased in the past. Not so last night. I had booked online in advance. I chose a bottle of NZ Sauvignon Blanc which at £29.50 was reasonably priced for its quality. I recommended and chose the white onion & garlic soup which I’ve had before when it was delicious. Last night the soup arrived and it looked and tasted quite different. It was thin and an odd colour and tasted only of stock and potato starch - not a suggestion of either onion or garlic. For some reason it was garnished with pea shoots. I did not finish it. The accompanying bread was good but the butter was too hard to spread. As to main courses, I’m told the fish pie was good. I chose the steak and venison pie with veg. The veg, particularly the flavoursome carrots, were good, though even a large portion of new potatoes failed to fill the enormous plate. The pie filling was good but the pastry was poor: undercooked on the filling side and tough and resembling a biscuit on top. I did not complain at the time as I did not want to spoil an otherwise convivial evening with visiting friends. Two servings of crumble were ordered and I’m told were delicious as usual. Having said all this, I want to say that the service was exceptional as always: welcoming, friendly, prompt and helpful, despite the presence of a slightly rowdy group in the other bar, following a six nations match. This on its own will mean that I give The Rattlebone another chance.

Tasteless chees with the jacket potato. A ton of butter on it and all round pretty miserable meal. I would not visit again even if you paid me! £11 for jacket and coffee. RIP off
