Unexpectedly good ... The Angel looks nice enough on their website. Most places do. But the location, decor, welcome and food in reality were all way above expectation. The courtyard garden doesn't seem to have many photos online - it's the star of the show tucked away from the spacious dining area. It's dog friendly, which was a bonus. Service is fast, but eggs royale, eggs benedict and pulled pork bap better than you'd expect in a very decent London hotel. Spotlessly clean but with Cotswold chic vibes. I'm tired of so many places in the area now charging £22 for a £15 brunch plate. Loads of options here for under a tenner, a bit more if you dive into the delicious Basque cheesecake like I did. It completes every breakfast, really. Top Marks to the Angel, which isn't really a cafe, but I'm not sure what word describes it better.

I booked one of their rooms, which was a lovely spacious, stylish and well appointed bedroom and bathroom with king size bed for a one night stay while I visited friends. Couldn’t have been more helpful prior to the stay with the booking and the information that was sent prior to arrival. Felt a bit odd just rocking up, letting myself in and finding the room but because the information and key entry codes was so well explained it wasn’t an issue, even coming back very late at night. Didn’t avail myself of the cafe but it did look good when I came down in the morning, top marks for decent coffee in the room, lovely. Would definitely stay again. Thank you

Always drive past and the cafe looks lovely so popped in. We ordered a full English breakfast each with coffee, the man behind the counter did not come across welcoming or friendly. They seemed to be short staffed, but the member of staff said it’s always like it. Our breakfasts arrived and were put down on the table without the waiter saying a word and briskly walked off, we had to go and ask for salt and ketchup. The menu stated homemade baked beans, which sounded great but when they arrived they were slightly spicy. I think it would state that on the menu. Dry toast with no butter, we like ‘farmshop’ sausages but we both thought these tasted almost powdery. Scrambled egg was tasteless. None of the staff came to check how our food was, we ate half of our food and left. We eat breakfast out a lot and were very disappointed.

Staff need to listen to customers requests. Asked for Mulled Cider, was brought a bottle of cold cider!! Staff were not forthcoming in changing it and my daughter was embarrassed to ask. She did say I asked for Mulled Cider, staff should have said immediately ‘I’m sorry I’ll get that changed’. Americano coffee was only warm, drank straight down. Cakes were passable. Wouldn’t go there again.

Our GP is in Sherston and my wife had an early morning routine appointment there, so we decided to go to the Angel afterwards. Simple breakfast with coffee for two. Won't bore people with what we ate (look at their menu), but all I will say is it looked and tasted as though it had come out of a kitchen, rather than out of a factory. The place is nice, the staff good and the food delicious and very well priced. Try it-you will not be disappointed.

Finding accommodation in this particular village isn’t easy, getting availability at the angel was a god send. The place is brand new and is of a high standard, the coffee shop is fantastic along with the staff in it, very helpful and nothing was ever too much for them. Compliments to the kitchen staff the food was quality for the prices paid, will certainly return upon our return, 5* all around.

We visited here as we had heard about the place and thought we’d try it for my birthday lunch. We sat in the courtyard garden which was so sheltered and quiet. The cafe wasn’t busy either which was good! Our sandwiches were so fresh and beautifully presented, and the ginger cake was very tasty. Good coffee too. The staff were polite and the service was quick. We will definitely return

Went to The Angel for a quick lunch with my husband. Looking at the menu, not a lot that suited my allergy of onions!! (Very difficult for every Chef to accommodate, and I love them but they don't love me unfortunately!) I mentioned to the waitress and she went to the kitchen and returned with the suggestion of a smoked salmon salad, just right!! Nicely presented and enjoyable. Thank you very much for being so accommodating with no trouble. My husband had the Venison which he enjoyed and looked tasty. No time for desserts, so took a delicious gluten free brownie home to enjoy later. Will be calling in again for sure.

We arrived , four of us for lunch on a sunny Saturday having walked at Westonbirt Arboretum. A very warm welcome from Ella who found us a nice outside table , brought cushions and menus straight away. Water for our Labrador. Explained menu and specials. There’s a good choice from a soup of the day , chicken club sandwich, sourdough with hummus and salad served with a small sampler of soup to pork chop and rump steak with salad and chips . The wine list gives a good choice. We had a bottle of delicious Sauvignon at £25 and two bottles of water . Service was sweet and swift. Friendly informal atmosphere. Puddings including Frangipani with fruits and ice cream . Great expresso to finish . Energetic service . Afterward we agreed we’d had a lovely lunch.

Stayed here for two nights 31 Aug and 1st Sept to attend a wedding in the area The hotel is only just over 3 miles from The Hare and Hounds and a nice alternative for wedding guests. The cooked breakfast was well presented and very tasty especially the Gloucester Old spot sausages just the job. The hotel staff are friendly and go above and beyond which was shown when my husband left his credit cards hidden in the room and only remembered on our way home. Following a couple of calls with the hotel who searched the room I later received a text to say they had been found. They were then posted back recorded delivery. Thank you again to all the staff.

However, yet again, no Service from counter staff who were chatting and ignoring the customers, even though place was not over busy.I had to find menu my self and order my self. Sandwich which came was inedible, ham over cooked and tuff as old shoes No one came to ask if meal was ok. Told staff who said they would tell the chef. The Angel Hotel and restaurant. We arrived a day before the great Sherston Petanque village annual event.I walk not too well these days so the manager kindly allowed our car to be parked at the rear of the hotel. Normally plenty of parking outside in the street but on Boules special day, all cars must be removed out of the street making way for boules pistes to be built overnight.Enough about my sport - more about this clean splendid hotel and restaurant . I would describe it as a jewel in the Cotswolds, we stayed two nights. The decor is open cream shaded walls and white paintwork. Oatmeal fabrics adorned the windows .The staff are many and friendly - the food is outstanding with an English chef and a Portuguese sou chef?I have traveled in many parts of the world and I can say this location ticks all my boxes. The bedrooms are plain clean and loveable with white towels provided. The village is complete with a post office that sells all your foodie needs. The church is ancient and welcoming and one pub is a must visit.Sure do recommend a visit. Relax and you may see the ghost that has been seen in the hotel. As I looked around at the cotswold stone buildings I felt the the labour so intense of those tradesmen now long gone. I dreamed a dream of times got by. Les Mis.

I would say this is good rather than just average if that option had been available but it wasn't so ......On the plus side this is a friendly restaurant, pleasant surroundings, and the staff are helpful and efficient. The Tapas selection however was a bit disappointing and could definitely do with some more vegetables or greenery to lift it a bit. The pricing was pretty good with a platter and wine option presenting good value. Just a bit more thought into the variety on offer would be good.

Went there last Sunday for Sunday lunch-as we walked through the door, a man who we later knew as Mike said 'Hello Guys'. My partner is a lovely lady and doesn't look anything like a guy. Ignorant Man. So to the roast. I had the lamb which was very nice and my partner had the pork, sorry the roast tough chewy and very fatty pork. On both plates the potatoes were luke warm at the very best, my Yorkshire pudding was half cooked and soggy, the vegetables: a piece of cabbage the size of a postage stamp, a couple of spoons of peas, 4 string beans,2 cauliflower florets, what a joke. Give it a wide berth. I refused to pay for the pork which wasn't fit for a pig. Give it a miss.

Really great staff who went out of their way to help us due to a booking.com screw up (no reservation). They did everything they could to make sure our stay was enjoyable and even moved out of their staff accommodation to put us up (it was a seriously busy weekend in the village). Staff couldn't have been more accommodating. Full marks - it's not the things that happen but how people deal with them that stays with you. My fish and chips were the best I've ever had! The restaurant is very comfortable and decor very attractive. This place is bound to become very popular (it was already very busy the next day, at Sunday lunch), so I'd recommend going soon - it is also VERY good value - I looked at the menus for the pubs in the village and it compares very well on price and is unbeatable on quality. The menu and wine list were very good, and lived up to our expectations. The service was attentive, but perhaps in need of more practice - one of our glasses of wine was red when it should have been white, and one of the open sandwiches was on brown bread rather than white. I went to visit The Angel and following my visit I sent the email below. I am really surprised that I have not received a response. I am afraid that this indicates the poor management that I experienced on my visit:Good afternoon. I visited you last night for the first time. I was having supper with my partner and friend. I have been thinking about our experience and was considering writing a review on trip advisor but I am not a great believer in publicly criticising a venue when I can pass on my comments in a more discrete way. I am afraid to say that we were all really disappointed. I spent £175 on the meal in total (not including a tip - which I didn't leave due to the experience) and I can't help feeling rather short changed. I feel compelled to write this because it simply can't be right that these issues are not brought to the attention of the management because you have clearly put in a lot of effort in to the way the venue looks and it has huge potential. In summary, the main issues were:the menu was new yesterday but the waitress (who was very polite and sweet) couldn't tell us anything about the menu at all. She clearly hadn't been given the chance to taste anything which is of course not her fault. The restaurant is freezing. We were all really uncomfortable. I told the waitress that it was freezing and she said that lots of people have made the same complaint - why are you still serving food in there if you know its unpleasant for customers?the food does not justify the price tag I am afraid. If you charge £25 for a steak I expect it to be good. My fillet steak was over cooked (I had asked for medium/rare and it certainly wasn't pink) . We all had chips (2 of us had steaks) and they were so soggy. My partner's pork was cold and tough. The fish cakes were not pleasant at all - they were really undercooked potato cakes). I felt too embarrassed to complain because the poor waitress was there alone and there didn't seem to be any one senior in charge.I am so sorry to be writing this email because I know it is not nice when people are negative about a service that you're providing but I simply couldn't let this go unsaid. I did look at your trip advisor reviews and am saddened to see that a number of these issues have already been raised and clearly not addressed. Kind regards

This place has great potential as one of the only 'smart' restaurants in the local area. The menu is pricey but very good. The decor is tasteful and the staff very attentive. BUT! the restaurant has been recently extended and the heating can't cope - we were freezing all evening and couldn't wait to leave to get home to some warmth. We complained, but were told that the heating was on full and that was it! I wonder whether this was the reason that there was only one other table reserved on what should have been a busy Saturday night - the pub over the road was packed (and warm). I would eat there again, but wouldn't want to risk paying those prices only to have to eat quickly and leave again. A real shame.

Although a high chair was provided there was no kids option on the menu, and nothing very child friendly. I had brought food for my 20month old though, and they didn't object to my feeding him with it. I had the pork piccadillo (I think it was called) it was a small, dry and overpriced mish-mash of strange flavours. The others' food looked better but still generally overpriced. The only saving grace was the coffee and babychino which were some of the best I've had.I may pop back for coffee, but I don't like feeling my child is unwelcome. :-(

We have stopped at The Angel a couple of times for both tea & cake and for breakfast. The interior is nicely decorated but was slightly grubby. Although the place was not particularly busy, we had to clear our own table of the detritus left by previous customers and the table was slightly sticky. The waitresses were all polite, but had an air of disinterest about them.We ordered four breakfasts which are supposed to the the signature. The ingredients were of good quality, although the bacon was too fatty/streaky for my taste. Value for money is an issue though. The portions really do need to be larger for the price charged (£8.95 if i recall). We took friends who were staying with us and it was slightly embarrassing as the breakfast was supposed to set us all up for the day. As it was we all ended up having to eat lunch as we were all hungry a couple of hours later. When we stopped for tea and cake previously there were similar issues with value for money. The village is lovely, and the premises are very attractive, but I would not go back to The Angel.

We stayed for one night (Rm 8), it was very well appointed, a large comfortable bed, fresh linen and a large shower with great water pressure (no bath). The room is a tad short in clothes hanging space as it has been tastefully located at the eves of the property, retaining its character with the original oak beams, but providing a very contemporary look and comfort, for a one night stay it was more than adequate. The hotel is a real gem it has been renovated to a high standard, the staff were all very polite and attentive and the tea shop offerings were mouth-watering. We ate at The Rattlebone Inn, a 2 minute walk away and we would recommend you call in for a drink or a meal there. With the mix of locals and visitors alike, the menu catered for all tastes, service and drinks first class. Sherston is a picture post card village, it has a fantastic village store, stocked with all your requirements at very competitive prices, including a very well stocked wine cellar. We would highly recommend The Angel Hotel and will be returning.

Service was also quite ok and I would give it another try (I was told the breakfasts are good) but on this occasion I can only give 3 stars.

The First time I came here, it was very pleasant. However, taking 2 very polite and patient children ( 9 and 12) offered up a different story. I left them to order a few soft drinks whilst I went to the post office. I came back about 15 mins later to find them with no drinks. The kids told me they were ignored and when they asked if they could get some drinks, they were snarled at and told to wait. I noticed there were no other customers in the cafe. I removed the kids and we went to the pub. The cafe lost about £15.00 as we would have eaten a few slices of cake and I would have had a cappucino. The women who snarled at my kids was between 50 and 60.

Made a long detour to visit The Angel for lunch after reading about it. Stood for ages in the reception area, finally a waitress came, apologised for the delay and gave me the lunch and specials menus. She told me she would come outside to take my order (I had a table in the courtyard). The menu looked very good, especially the specials menu which was mainly fish/seafood. Waited ... waited ... finally another waitress came out to the courtyard with some drinks for another table (they had given up waiting for service and went inside to find someone to take their drinks/food order). She completely ignored me. She returned a further 2 times and again ignored me despite me trying to get her attention (she returned as she had brought water for the next table but no glasses!). After sitting for 15 minutes I went inside to try and find someone to at least get a drink and place my food order. There were no staff in sight. I gave up and went to the village shop to get something for lunch. Fortunately the staff in the shop wanted to serve! So after driving for 1/2 hour my plan for a lovely lunch ended up as a pre-packed sandwich and yogurt from the village store.

This is my third visit to The Angel in Sherston. Have had both lunch and morning coffee there and would highly recommend both. Spoilt for choice with indoor and outdoor seating in the tastefully refurbished rooms and outside space. I enjoyed sampling both tea and coffee this morning and a freshly made gluten free brownie. Really lovely. Crochet classes with Dolly Bobbins held here on Monday mornings.

I've never been to Sherston before and I've got to say thet it's a lovely village. We started off a morning walk with breakfast in the Angel. The outside looks like a standard pub, but the inside is very different; a spacious and nicely decorated tea room.We all ate a similar breakfast, which I belive was called the 'angel' and was presented like this (if you can imagine toast sliced diagonally representing the wings). The bacon was good and the sausage too, but a little on the solid side to be a favorite, the toast was also nice and thick. Very tasty and just right before a brisk walk in the countryside. This all arrived promptly, served by a lovely waitress.

My mum wanted to bring me to the angel for brunch as a birthday treat, unfortunately this did not happen. We went to sit down in the sun room where we were told we were not welcome as I had my 6 month old baby (asleep) and apparently this room is for adults only!! We got told we could have a table in the corner or go outside. The tone and manner that we were told this disgusted us, but we made our way outside. My mum went to get a menu so we could order our late breakfast to be told the kitchen had closed!! This apparently happens every day between 11 and 12, although on their website it states that they serve breakfast from 8 until 12!! I can honestly say I will never be returning here. Rude staff and incorrect information. If you want a nice coffee, head into Malmesbury or to Allington Farm shop near Chippenham.

Just going for a Sunday drive and found nothing in Chipping Sodbury apart from the bog standard pub, we drove on not really knowing where we'd end up. We drove through the lovely little village of Sherston and saw The Angel. Only wanting a sandwich, we walked in and saw how busy this place was. We asked for a table and were told they were only doing a Sunday menu. We were hungry by this time so decided to go for it. We were seated in a very pretty section of the restaurant at a large table (would normally seat 4). It was very comfortable. There is another section to the place, but it appeared more for families. We both ordered the pork and after a little bit of a wait ..... mattered not to us as we had the Sunday papers and were happy overhearing the locals and their chat .... our lunch arrived. What a surprise. It was fabulous. Best pork we'd had for ages. Delicious Yorkshire puddings and wonderful, unusual vegetables. Just like a wonderful home cooked meal (made by somebody who actually cares about food and knows what's good and what's not). We were very tempted by the rhubarb crème brulee, but just couldn't manage it. Since we've been, we have told all and sundry about this little find. It's well worth the trek to get there. We chose to have Easter Sunday lunch elsewhere but regretted that decision. We kept comparing it to the Angel, and it didn't come close! We'll be back for sure.

Popped in on the off chance as we were passing and just wanted a light lunch.Food was perfectly cooked, Whitebait to die for,and reasonably priced.Good sized portions and failed to make enough room for what looked like some scrummy cakes.Restaurant was half full and service was quick and polite. With 30 covers available to should be a welcome addition to Sherston and it many tourists as well as inhabitants.

Having heard good reviews about The Angel we made a special trip for breakfast. On arrival there was one table of two occupied and one of one, so not at all busy for a Monday morning. Nicely decorated and staff polite and welcoming. We ordered two coffee's and a pot of tea between the three of us. Two of us had the Fallen Angel breakfast....supposedly bigger breakfast, as we were hungry, and one bacon sandwich. After a good 30 minutes, our food arrived. By which time we had already finished our hot drinks! Luckily, we were not in any rush, but no apology for the delay was offered. The Fallen Angel breakfast looked appetising enough, but considering it was the bigger portion, it didn't look it. I've eaten more elsewhere for less money. While I appreciate the sausages, eggs and bacon are home produced, the flavour was unexceptional and sausage texture very coarse. A single small roll of butter was insufficient to cover the toast. Overall: Clean pleasant surroundings. Access for disabled ok but beware of the odd little step as an old building. On street parking, but spaces not always available. Toilets clean but could do with an extractor fan/ventilation as no windows, hand cream and nice soap. The staff were very polite but sadly the speed of service and food in value for money, didn't match our expectations. However, one of our party has had the afternoon tea and said it was very good. Maybe we should give that a try and also their lunchtine meals. The Angel also offers boutique bed and breakfast at £120 per night. For further details and more information they have a good website.

I arrived at this restaurant for breakfast, having had many really excellence experiences before, to be told that breakfast had stopped being served (WE ARRIVED AT 10.55), at 11 am. Lunch was not available just cakes and some sausage rolls. So having chosen the sausage rols and toasted tea cakes we were eventually served. I had to ask for more butter having been given a small roll of very hard butter. There were three of us and we were presented with one small roll of extra butter for all three of us. We ordered extra coffee which arrived but the coffee's had to go back. Could breakfast be available for longer ?

We have been to the Angel on a number of occasions and it was becoming one of our favourite tea rooms, that was until now. Visited for lunch in February and had an excellent ham sandwich, soup and a delicious piece of cake. I then returned the next day with my wife for tea and cakes while on a walk in the area and the cakes were even better than the previous day. I was also pleased to see that they had opened the lounge, as I had cycled here in November only to find it was full and had to cycle home. So we returned on 1 March, parked up and intended to have some lunch prior to a walk and then return later for tea and cakes. Well we were very disappointed to find that they no longer serve light lunches on a Sunday, which I find very odd for a tea room. We did not want a full meal prior to going on a walk, so we had to leave and carry onto Malmesbury and I am sure others must have had to do the same. This is such a pity, as Sherston desperately needed a tea room and everything was exceptional until our last visit, but it looks like they are now trying to change their clientele by not offering light lunches. We had recommended the tea room to others and my parents always went in whenever they were visiting from Lancashire, however we would be unable to recommend it to anyone now due to this last visit. Successful tea rooms are built on reliability and The Angel needs to decide whether it is a tea room that attracts cyclists, walkers and families or a restaurant attracting a different clientele, otherwise they will lose a lot more customers (and it's a long way to cycle from Sherston to the next tea room when heading west).

What a delightful establishment, beautifully laid out, furnished and decorated to a high standard. Friendly and helpful staff add to the great atmosphere. Then there was the cream tea, superb! Great tea and delicious sand witches with some of the nicest smoked salmon sandwiches I've ever tasted. Then there was the great scones with delicious James and cream, followed by six different types of cake and some fresh mango, luckily they have boxes to take the leftovers home in!Client all included walkers buying a coffee and crisps, a young family and a local who had a hot chocolate to go!Probably the best full cream tea I've had - and reasonably priced tooThe lunch menu looks great, as does the all day breakfast - I will be back to try it!What a lovely, relaxing afternoon!

Arrived for an early breakfast on the way to work, served by a charming young lady who brought us an exceptional English with proper sausage, tasty bacon, duck egg, tomatoes on the vine, mushroom and a good thick slice of toast with ample butter and of course HP brown sauce topped off with a big mug of strong builders tea, at £8 I did initally think it was a bit expensive, but you really do get what you pay for and this was worth every penny.

This delightful tearoom also serves breakfast and light lunches. It's recently opened and refurbished and we wandered in after our usual walk around the Sherston area. We were not disappointed - fresh greys and spots used in the decor give a relaxed and clean welcome. The staff were very pleasant and served us well. The cakes were delicious and the tea was in a teapot of course! The grandchildren loved their little cups of hot chocolate with lashing of mini marshmallows on top, and wanted to explore up the spiral stairs. So did we - wished we didn't Iive so close or we'd be back for B&B. But we can come back for a coffee break any time - and we will! Highly recommend this gorgeous place.

Visited a couple of weeks ago for lunch on a very wet Saturday. I had a brie and bacon baguette which was delicious; plenty of brie and their own local bacon plus a nice mixed salad. We sat in the window with a pleasant view out to the attractive high street. Staff were friendly and we will definitely be back again hopefully next time on a nicer day so we can have a walk in the area and sample the cakes. It is also very welcoming to cyclists which is good to see.

The Angel does a great breakfast! You chose exactly want you want - whatever your favourite; it's no trouble to the friendly, helpful staff. A really good cup of tea and beautiful bread turned into the lightest, crispiest toast. And another great cup of tea!The Angel is so clean and inviting - definitely worth a visitDenise

I reluctantly write this review, however I was so disappointed with my visit there today, I wanted to write to communicate this. I had to ask for us to be served as the 3 staff were either facing the wall and chatting or talking to a friend about her mobile phone. When we had ordered we were told we had to go and get a number from the garden and present it at the till so she would know where we were sat, something it may have been nice if the girl, who was busy chatting, could have done. We decided to sit inside in the end and our drinks arrived, a cappuccino in a cardboard cup and a bottle of elderflower, just wondering why the stack of white china cups were unavailable to be used? I appreciate that today was a 'busy' day being boules, an event that I would have thought would have meant extra 'rations' being ordered (it was 2pm), however there was no savoury food available apart from a sausage roll that we ordered, it arrived stone cold. Having sent it back to be warmed it reappeared cold in the middle. To top off the visit 2 dogs were brought in which proceeded to lick the stack of plates on the lower shelves of the counter before they were taken into the garden area, admittedly the staff couldn't see, but hardly hygienic or reassuring. The service was less than friendly, we left and won't be returning, a shame.

Recently opened as a tearoom and B&B, The Angel, supplied us with some very tasty bacon nutty and creamy lattes. Having worked in the building for 15 years in its previous guise as offices for a software firm, it was interesting to see the massive changes that the new owner has made.Dog friendly and quick service too - The Angel is a great place to stop for a coffee if you are visiting Highgrove, Westonbirt, Tetbury or Malmesbury.

Won’t be back - coffee ok but woeful miserable staff. A smile, a bit of engagement, even eye contact makes a difference - you want to feel welcome rather than an intruder. Surely when money is tight places realise they might have to go that bit extra to encourage people to go back.

Website showed great promise. Kerbside appeal good, car parking good, service very good ( very helpful and friendly). Strange layout inside as its old building, dining room has no bar. Garden not used to its full potential, only very old tired play equipment for children. Food reasonable, 2 out of 3 meals okay. Third meal of chicken disappointing, either poor quality meat or overcooked or possibly both !!!!! Empty on a nice sunny lunchtime !!! Sorry but would not rush back.
